Call it a wax..sealant...what difference does it make? It made my new 4runner look terrific. Put it on my 10 year old camry this past weekend and it also did a great job. Just gave each a good wash, dry, and spray and wipe on the speedbead. The application takes all of 45 minutes.
I'm sure you can get a better job by claying and going to a multi-step process. Me, I've got better things to do and with todays clearcoats I'm not convinced that it makes any difference.
Give Stoners a call and ask them how Speed Bead can remove fine scratches. My guess is that it reduces the appearance of the fine scratches, but does not remove them.
I used Bead Max over two months ago and the water still beads up like the vehicle was just waxed or what ever you want to call it.
Fast, easy, long lasting and very cheap to buy and it does shine very nicely.
If it sounded like I was criticizing individuals for the use of the terms. I am criticizing the industry.
It matters to me whether the product has wax in it or not. And the web site did not even say if there was wax in the SpeedBead. It matters to me because:
1) The way wax protects is different from that of sealant. 2) The way you correct mistakes is different between the two. You remove sealant with alcohol, you can get wax off with Dawn. 3) The way you combine products is different. For example, one might want to apply wax on top of a sealant but one would never want to do the reverse. 4) If I switch products, I need to know what to do to prepare for the new product. If I am switching from a sealant to wax, then a Dawn wash is not going to do much good.
Everyone should be interested in whether their pr oduct has abrasives in it, because overuse of abrasives can damage a paint job.
For those who have new cars or paint in excellent condition and want a product that is more durable than your typical car wax, be on the lookout for Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax, coming soon to a retailer near you.
It's not really a wax (no appreciable amount of wax in it) but a polymer sealant with light polishing ability. Meguiar's is claiming this is the most durable product they make. I've been using it the past week or so and it seems like a nice product if your paint is in excellent condition. It would be a great choice for someone who just bought a new car and wants a good product they can buy in a local store.
Retail rollout should be early Feb but you can order now from Meguiars.com. About $15.00.
Has anyone ever used the 5 Star Shine products before? Do they work? Do they make the car shiny? Does it protect the car's finish/paint from the elements like snow, dirt, dust, grime, etc? Are they better than the Zaino products?
For those who are interested in microfiber technology, here's a great article discussing the various types of towels. After reading you'll know what to look for in a quality towel.
Two months after the initial application and it still looks great on my 4Runner. Tried it on my 95 Camry as well. I should have clayed it first but didn't. The Camry hasn't been waxed in several years and it came out looking pretty sharp, all things considered. I plan on claying it this spring and Speed Beading it again. So far, I'm impressed with these products...ease of application, finished shine and longevity have all exceeded my expectations.
I have been using Stoner's Speed Bead and Bead Max for almost 2 years on my vehicles and they still look brand new. I live near Cleveland Oh. (snow belt) and the salt here is terrible on a cars finish. After 3 months of winter the Stoner's product was still protecting my finish. I decided to apply another coat of Stoner's last month just because it was so easy and fast to do.
Clay your Camry first the next time you use Stoner's Speed Bead, it does make a difference.
I have a 2002 Oldsmobile Alero and was looking for a good wax to use on her. It has a silver exterior, so I want it to last as long as possible. I used Wax as you dry on my previous vehicle, a Malibu, and it worked very well. Will the Wax as you dry provide the same protection to the paint as regular conventional waxes? I'm kind of afraid to use conventional wax, because I don't those nasty swirl marks. If I do use conventional wax, it will be my first time ever doing it myself, so if you guys wouldn't mind giving me some pointers, that would be great. Thanks, Jeremy
It's a good product if you're gonna use it everytime you wash your car. It doesn't offer the protection that a "normal" car wax will but then, its not designed to do that. Its more like a wax booster, adding a bit of protection to enhance what's already there.
Waxing your car is really easy and fun (well, it is for me...). Like most things in life there is a learning curve and most common sense rules apply. Technique is more important than product. There are a million websites with info on how to wax your car. A simple web search will turn them up. Here's a couple for your review:
Most modern waxes and polishes are not nearly as harsh as they used to be because today's car paint is much softer and thinner than it used to be. Even products that have been around for decades have been reformulated to some extent so that they don't needlessly harm paint.
Give the above links a read and if you still have questions, holla at us.
My Navigator's rims are slightly textured and I'm having a very difficult time cleaning the dirt, brake dust, and everything else that's caked on. Can any one suggest a brush that is abrasive enough to clean but not damage the rims? I use PS21, which I really like, but it's not cutting it.
Clayed my 95 Camry and gave it a coat of SpeedBead...it looks sooooo good. And best of all, I did it all in about an hour and a half. I have been really impressed with the Stoner products since I have been using them. So fast and easy and the results are outstanding. Give it a try!
Is there any retail store in South Florida, the Ft. Lauderdale area, that sells this stuff? Went to Pep Boys and they didn't have it. Thanks in advance for any response.
They sell it by internet and they have recently changed their policy to selling just what you want, as opposed to only by the case which was alittle annoying - how much bug and tar remover do you really need?????????????????/.
It is not a quick detailing wax. It is quick to put on and easy to take off. Speed Bead was still on my van 3-4 months after I put it on and the shine was still great. I don't know how long Speed Bead could go as I don't want to leave the finish unprotected for any length of time.
I live in N.E. Ohio and the state is in love with road salt, so my van gets plenty of harsh treatment during the winter months.
Don't be fooled by the spray can. Speed Bead is the only thing that I will ever use again! It is fast and it will last for months.
I really like this product - I wash my car every 2 wks now and use it while car is wet - it works pretty good I think - I like Eagle One's wash too - the pink stuff - I also like Turtle Wax's Express Shine too - to each his own but I don't think you have to spend alot of $$ to keep your car looking good - just bought a can of Gunk foaming glass cleaner - works just as good as Stoner's Invisible Glass and cost half as much.
I hgave a real quick question; on the basis of shine/gloss/reflectivity ONLY, which of the following waxes do you consider to be superior: 1.Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax 2.P21s Carnuba Wax 3.Zymol Carbon I'm getting the Club Sport ready for a couple of car shows and concours and I really wanted to go all out this year. Durability isn't really an issue as the car is garaged most of the week-I may drive it to work 1-2 times/week tops; the rest of my driving takes place in the late afternoon or evening-rain or shine. Thanks for any help you can give.
I haven't used the Zymol so I can't offer an educated opinion. But I do use the other two. The P21S wax is glossier than the NXT, I feel. NXT has a unique look which is a darkening of the paint. It looks best on solid colored paint jobs but I've felt it hides the metallic paint too much. P21S is one of the most reflective carnaubas I'm aware of. It's really an excellent wax.
I guess it depends on what final look you want. I detailed a black Saab 9-3 recently with NXT and it really looked great but P21S would have look equally nice if different. So, deep and rich, go NXT. Glossy and mirrory, go P21S.
The Club Sport's non-metallic paint is what Munich calls "Bright Red", so right now I'm leaning toward the NXT. What kind of surface prep does it require? My latest issue of Car and Driver came today and it contained an ad for this: http://www.eagleone.com/_products/3,2081616.asp I know Eagle One makes good products-otherwise I'd dismiss it as snake oil. Have you seen it/tried it?
Yeah, I have that stuff. Its a good product for paint that's in near-new condition. It's looks are different than NXT in that it doesn't alter the paint. It's comparable to Mothers Reflections. Two interesting things about Eagle One Nanowax: * It comes with a microfiber towel for product removal/polishing. Most car waxes come with a foam applicator but this is the first time I've seen a wax include a polishing towel as well. ** E1 is running a rebate where they'll refund your purchase price up to $10. Most stores sell it for less so the rebate makes the wax free. Free car wax and a free microfiber is a darned good offer IMO.
The three products (NXT, E1, and Mothers) are all very similar in that they have very light polishing ability and seem to be a bit more durable than your typical store bought cleaner wax.
It's hard to answer the surface prep question without seeing the car. NXT doesn't require anything special but like any last step product, the better the paint is prepped, the better the product will perform and the better the end result.
Most of their distribution is via online retailers. Do a Google search for "P21S" and a bunch of suppliers will be displayed.
And here's an insider's secret about P21S: They sell a very similar product to motorcycle enthusiasts called S100. If there is a difference between P21S and S100, its very minor. S100 can be purchased at any Harley Davidson dealer or online. And the best thing is that S100 is $10 cheaper.
If your car needs some polishing to remove light swirl marks and whatnot, try P21S Gloss Enhancing Paint Cleanser (or the S100 variant, Shine Enhancing Cleanser). Both are about $10 and are nice, if very mild, polishes.
Bret, I think there's a Harley Davidson dealer in the downtown Ft. Lauderdale area, and if you say it's basically the same product, I'll stop by and pick up a bottle 2 try. Again, thanks for the helpful info. You have as much class as Terry and Drift in these forums, and it's greatly appreciated!
bretfraz, I tried the Eagle 1 Nano wax after reading your comments. It has to be one of the best, inexpensive, easy-to-use, deep shine waxes I have ever bought. The microfiber buffing towel that was included was the first microfiber product I've tried and I'm now a firm believer in them. I have a new Redline Red Chevrolet SSR and this nanowax really gave a deep, brilliant shine. I'm interested in seeing how well this wax "holds up" and for how long. Thanks again for introducing me to this Eagle 1 Nanowax.
Sandman, I know Advance and Autozone both carry the Eagle 1 Nanowax. It's $9.95 and that includes a foam applicator pad and a microfiber buffing cloth that really works great on buffing hand buffing the wax off and creating a great, scratch free shine. Plus, there's a mail-in rebate offer that refunds the entire $9.95 purchase price. Good luck!
Just got home from Autozone and bought the Nanowax, and there is a sticker saying it will be free after I follow certain steps. I will read it and follow correctly when I open the container. I plan to wash the car shortly, then pull it into the garage and start waxing. Hopefully, the wax will go on and come off very smoothly. I'll have to read the directions to see if I use the microfiber towel to put on and remove the wax. Wish me luck!
Well guys, just finished waxing the silver Sentra, and I can sum it up in just one word...UNDERWHELMED! The shine is no different than the Maquirer's 26 that I have been using on the car since new. I was expecting a very deep shine, but I can truly say that there's not the deepness of gloss that I thought I'd see. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate this product a 5 at best. Thank goodness it'll be free after I take care of the rebate materials. I almost bought the new Turtle Wax product, it was a few bucks cheaper also. I think I will eventually go to the Harley Davidson store for the 100 wax. Bret, you can e-mail me if you want to discuss the product further.
Used Speed Bead for the first time on my red Audi A4 today, easy to use and shines great! Found it odd that it smells like ski wax. It managed to polished out some water spots in the paint and lessened small scratches/swirls. I had only intended to use it as a 'stop-gap' wax until I have more time to do a whole clay/swirl remover/polish/protectant process next month but I'm pleasantly surprised.
I'm looking for a good topper wax for either BlackFire or Klasse and don't want to use P21S, no matter how positive the reviews have been, because of the prospect of reapplying every 2-3 months. I bought some Nanowax yesterday and plan on applying it next time I wash the car (not today, hey, it's Easter). I figure it'll be a low cost test for one option and will report how it works. Can anyone suggest something else to try?
Tried some Rain-X Fast Wax the other day on my 04 Envoy and I think it did a pretty good job. I did have a base coat of a nice dealer wax on it, but the Rain-X Fast Wax did really shine it up and make a very smooth finish. It was very easy to apply and wipe off. Did entire vehicle in about 40 minutes, and left no white spots on the black areas.
Anyone else try this product?
We will see how long it lasts, but I can imagine putting this stuff on every couple of months with no problems.
Product was cheap only about $4.50 at Wally World. I had very good results and swear by the Rain-X windshield treatment.
If you are looking for a wax topper for BlackFire or Klasse that will last longer than 2 or 3 months ... then good luck. S100 goes on and off so easy that it is almost like using a quick detail spray. Honestly it only takes me 30 minutes at the most to do my Accord with S100. The only wax I know of that will definitely last 3, or up to 6 months depending on climate and garage availability, is Collinite. I have both but trust me I would rather use S100 once a month because it looks better and the Collinite requires a little bit of elbow grease to buff....it is not too bad if you remove it one panel at a time. If you want some I have a tin of the Collinite Marquis de Elegance that I will sell or trade to you.
There are very few people that ever try S100 as a carnauba wax and are disappointed. It looks great, is inexpensive, does not stain trim, and NOTHING is any easier to wipe on and wipe off. Most Harley shops sell it for $14.95 and that my friend is true value.
I'll second the vote for Collinite - I use the Super Double Coat (376S I think) and it lasts longer than anything I've ever used. 6-8 months on my cars, North East, garaged every night. the buffing is good for you, and a few drops of sweat never hurt a wax job.
Has anyone tried the new Turtle Wax product, not sure of it's name right now? If so, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Am planning to get down to the HD shop soon and pick up some S100, really can't wait to try it. A friend at work got me a dozen micro-fiber towels from Costco today, she said they cost her $12.99. Much softer than the terry cloth towels I had been using.
The Sandman :-)
Have had 2 days of pretty heavy rain here in South Florida, and the Nanowax has performed very well, the car still looks pretty clean with little or no dried rain spots.
tntitan: Took your advice and ordered S100 SEPC and wax. Everyone says they're easy to use and I decided to forego the expense/effort of BlackFire and Klasse. I do like waxing my car when I find the time. I may also try NXT and then topping it with S100 (S100 SEPC, NXT, S100 wax).
just4fun2: Being obsessive/compulsive as i am i did try the Nanowax the next morning. Put a layer on half of the roof. Shine was very good, as good as I've had on my car but virtually indistinguishable from the Speed Bead. Will let you know how it holds up. I'm still not completely sold on either product as it's just too easy :P and I've seen better finishes on friend's cars, hence my purchase of the S100 products.
I actually thought the Nanowax was very easy to buff. Can't wait to try it vs the S100 when it arrives.
I got those Costco towels also. They're soft and plush for cheap towels but that makes them more difficult to use for buffing glazes/sealants than something thinner and less soft but I do like them.
I've decided to try the NXT on my Bright Red Club Sport. The clear coat is in pretty good shape, but there are some very light swirl marks and scratches. I already have a bottle of Meguiars Clear Coat Body Scrub Paint Cleaner as well as a tube of ScratchX. Would those products be appropriate for preparing the paint or is there another readily available OTC product that I should use prior to applying the NXT?
The ScratchX and the body scrub are almost the same in terms of aggressiveness (per Meguiar's). You might want a bottle of their Deep Crystal pre wax cleaner which is milder than the above two polishes. I can't really tell you what exactly will work without seeing the car in person so my advice would be to test each product on a small area and evaluate the results. Let us know what you find.
but there are a lot of products out there that can make your car look great. The real difference is in the prep work before you apply your final wax or sealant. A clean car that has been thoroughly clayed and polished (using the least abrasive polish necessary to remove swirls and restore the shine) will look and feel fantastic no matter which of the many quality sealants and waxes are used as the final topper.
I use Clay Magic and either Meguiars Swirl Free Polish or Meguiars Dual Action Cleaner Polish (depending on the severity of swirls...one of these has alwasy been sufficient for me). On my wife's white car I use Klasse AIO and SG since they last such a long time and I don't want to go through this process but once a year with a follow-up application of SG every 4-6 months. On my dark graphite pearl (fancy name for dark grey) car I use the Klasse twins during the winter but in the Spring I use S100 about once a month. The S100 can be applied and removed in less than 30 minutes on my Accord and I enjoy doing it every chance I get.
As a frequent user of the mpvclub.com site, I've read many testimonies in that forum from people claiming they prefer the Klasse over that stuff that begins with a "Z" that we're not allowed to talk about in this thread. I am currently using the "Z" stuff and would like to find someone who's used both and can tell me what the pros and cons of both products are. Thanks.
Bottgers...I have not used the forbidden one but I am an avid user of the Klasse twins. From what I understand Klasse is not as "slick". However, I believe the shine and durability of both products is outstanding. Klasse AIO can be used in conjunction with almost any other product and the SG looks great with a carnauba topper (S100 is my choice). The value is outstanding since you use so little product, it lasts so long, and it doesn't require anything other than the AIO and the SG.
IMHO, the Klasse twins are as easy to use as anything there is as long as you do two critical things: 1. Apply the product so thin that you can't even really see it on the paint....especially the SG. 2. Wipe off each panel as you go (about 30 seconds after it is applied). TRUST ME - Wipe On and Wipe Off is the way to go.
The SG can be layered over and over but you should wait 12-24 hours before applying another layer. I think about 2-3 layers of SG is ideal and then I slap on some S100 every month or two.
Is there any experience here with differences in these four products that are over the counter poly sealants with mild cleaners?
NXT was commented on as better on solid paint vs. metallic. I have a metallic medium dark gray pearlcoat - any recommendations regarding these four brands?
Do you recommend polishing with S100 SEPC before applying Klasse AIO? Also, one website (I think it was CMA) recommended topping AIO with SG for lighter colors and topping AIO with carnauba for darker colors. Is this true?--this is the only place I've seen this recommendation. Or maybe I should do both (AIO -> SG -> S100 wax)?
Comments
