My mechanic was working on the engine of a 86 SI with about 180k. you should have seen the cylinders. they looked beautiful. The reason it was is the shop was because the car had an oil leak and the oil was too low, the upper seal went dry and the timing chain pulley broke.
I bought mine after I saw that engine. All I can say is I did a lot of research and most everyone had nothing but good thing to say about these cars.
These are one hell of a car.

now days you can access any used part for any car nationwide. You pay the shipping, but then you save on local taxes.
You can also do a search for 'used auto parts'.
good luck and let us know how you did.
PS: my CRX got broken into couple of nights ago, and they only took a pair of glasses. go figure. Cleaning the broken window was more trouble than actually changing the window.

The CRX is a fun car. Driving one kind of makes me think of a hardtop, more practical miata. It's nimble, tossable and has enough power to get out of it's own way. 5 years ago or so I had a 91 Si, put H&R springs on it, adjustable Koni's and 16 inch wheels with decent rubber and the thing was an absolute delight to corner in, and a delight to drive in general. I think if I'd spent the 2 grand I spent on that in engine mods I probably would have picked up maybe half a second in the 1/4. Maybe a whole second, who knows, but it still wouldnt be fast. As far as the original pocket rocket (A modern one anyway, there were some little imports that I'd classify pocket rockets back in the 60's) I think the title would have to go to the rabbit/golf/gti.

I have gone so far as tracking down the buyer of my car and knocking on their door asking if I could buy it back from them. They said "no-way".
I still drive past their home about once a month to make sure they are taking care of it. Basically stalking my old car.
Think long and hard before you decide to get rid of yours!
Has anyone heard of any kind of public movement to pressure Honda into bring back the CRX? If they took the rear wheel skirts off the Insight and stuck a VTEC into one they could have an instant CRX and I would be first in line to buy!
Happy driving to all of you lucky people who still drive your CRX!
Any buying tips, impressions of this model year
appreciated.
Any overheating problem with this model?
Thanks
Craig
I had a '91 Si (red) for 8 years and never had a single mechanical problem. I never even changed a light bulb...I swear!
Only problem I had was it went through mufflers like it was going out of style. Believe I put 3 on it before I decided to buy one with a lifetime warranty through the dealer...after that had to have it replaced one more time...but @ no charge.
The problem I see with finding a decent CRX now days is that the ones I see on the road have had so much aftermarket equiptment attached to them that the original design is all but lost or they appear to have been driven into the ground. I never see a well kept good looking stock CRX anymore.
I loved mine and miss it every day, even though its been over 2 years since I sold it.
Good luck with your search!
