Talk about deja vu. Give me a break. Forget about this recycled e-mail. He is just a big trouble maker.
Have a good week end!

Is there just one tranny that has a bind between 1st and 2nd, or are there a lot of them? What do the dealers say about it. The same with the steering pump.
Wondering if there is a pattern with this? We all know that new models go thru there share of problems.
Pat
Does anyone know if a k&n filter or kit is available for the focus yet? I have a feeling this is gonna be a huge aftermarket car.
I have the exact same problem with my tranny. It binds between 1st and 2nd. Does yours also make an industrial sounding clatter at low rpms such as getting it into gear? I haven't talked to the dealer about the binding yet, but they say the noise is just the nature of the beast. I don't know what problem you're referring to about the power steering. All these problems are minor for now. I love my zx3. Quick, handles well, fun to drive, gets a lot of attention.
I'm also contacting my dealer abou the 'welcome package', and if they'll install new speakers for me.
The only question remaining is what color? I have a silver Honda now, but I was thinking along the lines of Rainforest Green or Malibu Blue.
Any other suggestions?
TYPE A TRANSAXLE = no latch ring under shift knob.
My owners manual has a diagram of the difference on page 138 for manual transmission.
All Foci with Ztec Motor are supposed to come with the TYPE B Tranny. But mine didn't and i've seen others that have the Type A Tranny just like mine.
Maybe they forgot to put an anit-rust on those area.
I better check all over under to make sure not a huge part is rusted. Anybody else with this prob.?
Will keep forum posted on any problems. Whats the teflon coating they wanted to sell me?
Pat
The teflon coating is a gimmick to pad their wallets. It's the same old story only new materials.
Now I understand why Saturn is so popular. No games like that. No invoice vs. MSRP nonsense, no dickering with your trade in value. They show you the blue book value and that's it.
Congrats on your purchase and good luck with it.
I wouldn't worry about muffler brackets showing rust. Any non-coated steel part exposed to the elements will rust. The only way to prevent this would be to exchange the brackets and bolts with stainless steel components. If you plan on doing your own exhaust work this could be a real time and knuckle saver. I've replaced many exhaust components over the years and the brackets and bolts are always very rusted and difficult to remove. Remember, this is an $11,000 car. Check out the price difference between steel and stainless steel bolts at your local hardware store. There is a significant price difference.

I believe some rust was also notices around the brake area on the Cougars. No big deal!!!!
Right?!
I've been wondering what some canadian zx3 owners have paid total price with which options and colors...just interested in knowing what you guys got.....i'm from quebec.....but besides the point, any canadian feedback would be nice to hear about.....thanks
I've had no problems at all, knock on plastic. There will always be a problem somewhere when thousands of cars are sold. After all they are very complex machines. The problem with this type of forum is you only hear about the one's with problems. (Over and over again). Stuff happens. I feel sorry for the person it happens to but the fact is not every machine will be 100% defect free. It's impossible. If everyone who is very happy with their ZX3 writes in, it will swamp the forum.
Make sure you get the second key/manual from the dealer at his expense. They are not cheap.

I do notice the stiffness from 1st to 2nd on the cold mornings. Shifting must be performed slow. This is undesirable, but minor since it goes away when the car is warm.
I have a dented front fender (as you all know) and I guess I will live with it until the part comes.
Question:
If I had the sedan (Made in USA) and had a dented fender...Would the fender come from the USA or Mexico? The front end of the sedan and ZX-3 is the same. Then.....Why wouldn't I be able to get a USA made front fender for my ZX-3? Do all Focus parts come from Mexico?
NorwayDoug
So...drive safely out there. There are no body panels (I assume it is not just fenders) for the ZX-3!!
NorwayDoug
This one was silver and looked quite good.. The black mouldings on the side of the car seemed to make it look a bit 80's ish.
Took it to the dealership for its first service.. the buggers charged me $43 for an oil change and tire rotation.. What a rip-off. I will be looking at other places to get an oil change from now on.
So far no mechanical problems or anything bad.. The car is smoother than it was when new, and handles beautifully through the snow. It needs some deliberate shifting to 2nd gear when cold, but this seems to go away after the car warms up.
I have a complaint about the wipers.. if the washer is used, the wipers collect some water and slowly dribble it onto the windshield.. it's annoying to see a streak of water after the wipers are parked.
Good luck to the unfortunate ones that are waiting for parts. hope everyone else is enjoying their ZX3's safely.
By the way, anybody from NJ around here?
Since most of the driving was on the highway (over 95%), I figured that an oil change at 3000 miles was not necessary, and that I would follow the book's maintainance schedule, with the first recommended service point at 5000 miles.
Depending on your driving, Ford recommends a 5000/3000 mile oil change. A 3000 mie interval is recommended for severe conditions, such as stop & go driving, heavy idling and use of A/C or driving in dusty conditions.
Changing the oil more frequenly than recommended is a waste, and harmful to the environment.
