Curt, these discounts that are being advertised by the dealer are not sponsored by Ford. The only sort of cash that Ford is providing on the Mustang is $750. If these discounts are real then they are coming out of the Dealer's pocket and there probably is not much room for negotiation in addition to them. I'm not saying that this is the case in this situation, however dealers frequently provide a heavy discount on one specific car and advertise it in the newspaper in order to give consumers the mistaken impression that they are selling that model this cheaply to everyone.

Phil, I don't think that the dealer cash on the '98 Cadillac DeVille is going anywhere. There has been dealer cash on this model for quite some time now. Even though GM announced several months ago that they were going to try to cut back on incentives, they have recently reversed their position. I have heard from several sources that GM will do what ever it takes to help maintain their sagging market share. This would lead me to believe that their incentives on most models should at least stay the same, if not increase in the coming months.

When is Edmund's going to update these lists? The one currently posted has expired.

    CarMan:

What is Whsl. Financial Reserve and should I pay it if I am ordering a specific truck that is not in stock. This is a Toyota T-100.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Smi, I have never heard of any dealers charging their customers for a "Whsl. Financial Reserve." You should ask your dealer to explain what this charge is before you pay it. The dealer may possibly be trying to make some hidden profit. The dealer should not add any additional charges to the deal if you decide to special order a vehicle. If anything it actually costs the dealer less to order a truck from the manufacturer instead of selling one off of his lot, because he has not had to keep it in his inventory. If you get him to explain exactly what this charge is please come back and let us know.

Edmunds should be updating their incentives page very soon. The page is actually updated piece by piece rather than all at once so you have access to the latest information as soon as we get a hold of it. If you have any questions about any incentives that are not yet updated or any additional questions about the ones that are listed please feel free to ask me.

OK I finally found out that Toyota did extend their $800 dealer cash on the '97 and '98 Tacoma trucks. Actually this $800 can be used as either dealer or consumer cash depending upon what region of the country you are in. I believe that this program now runs until early July.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
A couple of days ago someone asked if the Ford special financing rates on the F-150 Regular Cab models was also available on SuperCab models. The answer to this question is no. This program is restricted to Reg. Cab models only.

    Smi and Car_man,

I came across this fee when aquiring my 98 Sienna.
The Wholesale Financial Reserve Fund from what I remember being told by a dealer (who I walked out on by the way) was money that the dealership gets if it arranges customer financing through Toyota. This is a crap fee and I refused to pay it (before I walked out). If you don't finance through your dealer, you should not pay it. I don't think a good dealer would let a deal go over not getting this fee. If he does, you probably made a good decision by leaving.

    Scott
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Thanks for the information, Scott. I agree with you, a dealer probably won't let a customer walk over this fee. Besides if you really don't want to pay it you can always finance through another company other than Toyota.

Anybody know what the dealer incentive on Nissan Maximas are in Colorado? I talked to a local dealer in Boulder and the salesman told me that the incentive is $750 as opposed to $2000 that Edmund states. I didn't challenge his number but was wondering if anyone knew what the deal was.

I called Nissan USA but they are not giving this information out. They keep telling me to call local dealer and when I told them that they were not willing to share that info (I had talked to another dealership in the area,) they basically said that I was out of luck. The representative that I talked to was not polite. Maybe I should buy Camry or Accord just for that.... :(

    Thanks for any info!

    Car man et al.,

I found myself wondering if anybody can get some information on that same Maxima incentive - only in California. I told the dealer the $2000 story, whereas he brought and showed me a fax from Nissan dated April 2 for incentives thru April 30. According to that, Maxima is $1500/3000 for 98/97, respectively.

    So, anybody knows otherwise?
  • sirsolosirsolo Member Posts: 3
To answer my own question, yes, the rebate on '98 Maximas in this region of the country is $2000 as confirmed by one of the dealers.
I hope this helps someone in Colorado looking at a Maxima...
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Albert, yes, Nissan's California incentives are different from the ones posted on Edmund's page. Nissan actually breaks the country into approximately 25 different incentives regions and runs different programs in each. Usually I am able to get my hands on the Nissan incentives for the entire country, however I have only seen the NE Nissan incentives that are posted on Edmunds so far this month. The amounts that you quoted sound about right. I don't think that the dealer is lying to you. Furthermore, if the fax that you saw was dated April 3rd, the program should still be in effect. Nissan programs generally last for around one month. If I see the actual California incentives sometime this month, I'll let you know.

Is the Nissan incentive for the Frontier $1750 in California? That's a pretty good amount if it is.
  • nhamawinhamawi Member Posts: 5
I went to a Pontiac dealer the other day, and he confirmed that its too early for rebates on the 1999 Grand AM. He said the only thing they can get are stocking incentives.

I'm not sure if this has already been addressed above, but exactly how do dealer stocking incentives work? They must be pretty significant because some dealers go WAY out of their way to keep several hundred new cars on their lot.

Perhaps Edmunds could post stocking incentive details?

OK we finally got the information necessary to answer questions about Nissan's regional incentives. Yes there is $1,750 on '98 Frontier 2WD Regular Cab models purchased in California. There is $1,250 on all other '98 Frontier models in that area.

The Nissan Maxima incentives are the same for California as the information that we have listed on our site. There is $1,500 if you purchase and $450 if you lease a '98 Maxima in California.

If anyone has any additional questions about Nissan's regional incentives please feel free to ask.

    Hey Car_Man,

I read in the Dealer Incentives area that there was a $2000 Dealer rebate on Nissan Sentra. Would this be on the Base model only, or does it carry through to the entire Sentra line?
  • susanmsusanm Member Posts: 1
The Isuzu Trooper currently has a $1000. dealer
incentive. My dealer says that because he is
offering me low financing (4.9%) he will lose
the incentive. Could you tell me if this is
    true. Thank you.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
David, Nissan is currently offering the $2,000 dealer all Sentra models in the NJ area. The cash is similar, but not exactly the same in other
areas of the country. If you tell me where you want to purchase the car, I can tell you exactly what the rebate is in that region.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Susan, the dealer is telling you the truth. It is very expensive for manufacturers to lower their interest rates to the special levels that many of them offer. As a result, they usually do not let consumers combine these rates with any consumer or dealer cash.

What are the Nissan Maxima rebates in the mid-west; Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri? Do you think they will continue after 4/31/98?
  • bkkeneppbkkenepp Member Posts: 2
I'm looking to buy a 98 Intrepid and i understand that the 98 Intrepid sales are down from the 97's.I was wondering if anyone thought because of this would they possibly have some rebates on the 98 Intrepids.
    Bob
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Bruce, I believe that there is $2,000 on the Nissan Maxima in your area. Yes, I definitely think that there will be some sort of similar incentive after April 30th, though the amount may fluctuate by $500 or so.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Bob, you are right. Through March Dodge Intrepid sales are off 42% from last year's levels. Presently, Chrysler is not offering any incentives on the Intrepid. However, if this model's sales do not improve drastically soon, look for Chrysler to begin supporting it.
  • hopkibahopkiba Member Posts: 2
The dealers here (Midwest re: 4/20 posting) are saying that the rebate is $1,500. Will Nissan confirm that or do I have to take their word on that?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Nissan probably will not confirm or deny any rebates if you call them. Customers frequently call manufacturers for this type of information and the companies usually tell them to check with their local dealer. Actually you may get them to tell you about consumer cash, however they are very secretive about dealer cash. If you really don't believe the dealer, you may want to visit another dealer and say if they give you the same answer.

    Hello Car Man,

Last night, I took a friend to my local Nissan dealership to help him buy a Quest; they not only gave my friend the full 1500 incentive below invoice, they also threw in the 2% dealer hold back and 1 1/2% floor allowance. He also got low interest financing. Now my friend did not have a trade-in, so these were real figures. Granted they didn't immediately offer this low, and it took a little work, but I certainly didn't expect them to throw in the dealer incentive and floor allowance! On top of that, they're also going to send me a $50 finder's fee. (Which I didn't really insist on cause this was a friend, but when I jokingly asked for it, they took me up on it.)

Anyway, I asked how the sales manager how could make anything off this deal, and he said they get a "bonus for selling a certain amount of volume." Do you know how much this bonus would be? Just curious.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
The Nissan volume bonus is only available in certain regions of the country. Furthermore the amount that dealerships receive also varies from $150 - $300 per unit depending on what state they are in.

Hi, I'm buying a new corolla at the end of the

Edmunds posted the amount differs in the southeast.

Carman, Will Ford Match the GM Loyalty Certificate on comparable Vehicles? For Example, a Chevy EX cab 4x4 gets 1000 in addition to all other incentives. Would Ford accept the GM certificate on the same conditions? On a 4x4 supercab F150?
  • tomkktomkk Member Posts: 4
I've just heard (from the Sales Manager at a Chrysler dealer) that Chrysler just instituted (last weekend) a new incentive. He didn't have the details yet, but believed it applied to anyone who had a NEW domestic car. He also believed it applied to ANY new domestic car, not just a Chrysler product. Hard to believe, but that's what he said.

I normally wouldn't post such sketchy info, but if someone is about to buy, they might want to get their foot into that particular door. I guess all you can do is ask your dealer about it.
  • bobrbobr Member Posts: 1
Chrysler has implemented up to $1,000 incentives for anyone who currently owns a Ford, Chrysler, or GM product which was purchased or leased as a new vehicle. See the Chrysler website for details.

Hmmm, just took delivery of a Chevrolet K1500 Extended cab, 4/15/98. Today, my wife gets a letter from GM, customer loyalty program. If I read correctly, we should get some money from somebody, but who ? and how does it work ? Does anybody have any idea?

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

I have been negotiating to buy a Fully Loaded Isuzu Rodeo LS 4WD.The dealer told me he would give it to me at Invoice. Comparing his Invoice Price to the Invoice Price on Edmund's Site, the difference was $1300. After he showed me the Actual Invoice(It looked Real), it turned out the difference was $975 for Dealer Holdback (3%) and $325 for Floorplan (1%). Is this a true cost to the buyer or will he get that back from the Manufacturer after the sale?
I am not averse to paying that if it is a true cost to the dealer, I am just curious. That is because the dealer would offset the Dealer Holdback and Floor Plan costs by giving me the $1250 Dealer Incentive.

He also said I could get the low cost financing offered by Isuzu through GECAL because the $1250 was not a Customer Incentive but a Dealer incentive. Later when we were about to finalize the deal, he said GECAL said you can one or the other, Low-Cost Financing or Dealer Cash. Is there any way I can verify this? If I call GECAL, would they talk directly to a consumer?

To make the situation even more confusing, The dealer told me originally the low-cost financing was 4.9% over 60 months, then I was told 5.9%, and now I was told that it's 4.9% as of 4/3/98. Do you know which one is correct? It makes a difference on which is a better deal if I can only have one, Financing (if it's 4.9%) or Cashback (if it's 5.9%).

    Car_Man:

I am looking at a 1997 Trooper (supposedly factory exec car) with 6000 miles on it. I feel the car should be negotiated as a used car, however the dealer feels differently. Can you shed any light on this situation. I find it hard to beleive that the dealer paid more money for this 1997 than a "new" 1998 (that is if you take invoice minus the $4000 dlr incentive on Edmunds site).

Do you have any Isuzu info you could share on a 1997 Trooper??
  • shawkinsshawkins Member Posts: 18
Although your question wasn't directed at me, I'll throw in a little input. Basically you should not fight with the dealer about this and should walk away. The dealer is trying to say that the vehicle is considered new because it hasn't been titled or tagged yet. While this is true, you are getting a vehicle that has aged a year and has good mileage. But in my mind, it is a used vehicle with very low mileage and should be priced accordingly by you. He wants you to eat the depreciation cost. Deal on 98 and you'll be getting a new car.

John, sorry that it took me so long to respond to your post. I have been away on vacation for about a week. In answer to your question, I believe that Toyota has a 2% holdback on all models in your region.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Yes, Wallace Ford recently came out with its own loyalty program. In addition to their own coupons Ford dealers will accept coupons from any GM vehicles. So the coupon that you have for a loyalty discount on the Chevy truck should apply to Ford trucks as well.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Carl, the GM loyalty coupons are provided by General Motors themselves. If you have one of these coupons they will pay you the corresponding rebate out of their pocket. I'm not sure if you are eligible for the program if you took delivery of your truck right before it began. Personally I doubt it. They probably sent you the coupon to encourage you to buy another GM product. Regardless, you should definitely give them a call and see if you are eligible for the cash. The call would be well worth your time if it saved you $500 or $1,000! Good Luck
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
DC, the dealer was telling you the truth about his invoice. Isuzu does have a 3% holdback and a floorplan allowance. In your message, you question whether these are legitimate expenses. This is really a judgement call. I can tell you that Isuzu does reimburse the dealer for these amounts. I can see where having trucks on their floor is a real cost to the dealer, however the holdback is essentially a dealer's secret profit. Even though dealers do receive the holdback from their manufacturer, many of them are unwilling to dip into the amount in order to make a deal. It really depends upon the dealer and how hot the model that you want to purchase is.

In answer to your second question. I doubt that GECAL would talk directly to a consumer, especially about a topic as sensitive as dealer cash. However, again the dealer was telling you the truth. I don't believe that the cash can be combined with the special financing program. I don't have the specific 60 month rate in front of me right now, but I'll check on it and let you know what it is tomorrow.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Russ, you should definitely not pay more for a '97 Trooper with 6,000 miles than a '98 model. Unless you're getting a substantial discount, it's really not worth it for you to buy this truck as "new" when the '99 models will come out in another couple of months. You are probably better off just looking for a low mileage '97 Trooper that is actually considered "used."

    Car_Man:

Thanks for the advice. I think I will fax an offer over in the morning, since it is the end of the month. I plan on offering 5% over trade in value. This is still $5K under the price they quoted, so it is probably a lost cause. But, the worst they can say is "no" and my self esteem can handle that. If no deal is made... I know Isuzu made more than one Trooper!
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
I checked into the Isuzu financing program. Here are the real rates: 1.9% for 24 months, 2.9% for 36 months, 3.9% for 48 months, and 4.9% for 60 months.

Does anyone know if Toyota will offer another Rebate program for Tacomas, as the one they had expired April 30th. I ran out of time to make a deal and didn't want to risk missing the rebate. I am in So. Cal.

Just bought a 1998 Concorde on 4/10/98 then I find out that a $500 bonus program went into effect on 4/24/98. I am a previous owner of a chrysler automobile. Is there any way I can get the bonus.
Who can I write? Do you have a name with some horsepower. I asked Chrysler before I bought the car if any other rebates were being implemented in the near future and they said no.

I am a very good customer. (Six new cars in 12 years) I feel I deserve the $550 rebate and I want it. Can you help me?
