...... Sorry you got missed .. actually I'm a Caddy man by heart ..

So what do we have here .. it's moonstone, it's got 100k, it's got leather, cd tunes, slider, no ETC .. probably not a bad ride, just a bunch of miles ..

If it's a clean one, nice inside and out, no chopamatics to the seats, no meteorite hit's to the paint .. then you should be in and around that $5,5/$6ish figure ... You might consider doing a run down Retail Rd, folks like these cars, they sell well if they are nice .. $8,9 in the paper and $7,5/$8,5 makes room for the new driver ....

....... Another neighbor of George W., tell him I said Hi and I think he's doing a great job ..

Now here's a "fat daddy" ride .. run's the highways like a skater on ice .. whooosh.! A punch to the gas, and it even makes Vette owners get the dead mullet look. I have driven quite a few of these and enjoyed everyone of them .. nice vehicles.

You got the Nav, no miles and all the nice stuff for a southern gentleman .. as long as there is no paintwork and the kids haven't used the interior as a carving tool, then trade side you should be seeing $43/$44 depending on the dealer -- don't tell me you are trading this for a 745 ... Yuk.!

.... Ok, we have a 98, it has 49 klicks, tires all over the place, slider and all the nice stuff ..

On a trade, in and around the ultra high $5's, low low $6's .. now, if you hike down Retail Rd, $8,9 in the paper and $7,5/$8 should be all of it ..

I hope this helps .. and good luck.!

At those prices, I'll just keep it and drive it into the ground.

I like the car and I can't lose much more value by turning it into the daily driver. That way I don't feel bad about it just sitting 5 days a week.

I may park the Buick in our parking garage at work and drive the SVT to and from and use the Buick for work. Then 100% of it's miles are work related and deductable.

A zero cost solution to free up a parking spot at home, and quite clever too. May even be able to do the public transit thing that way with a car at each end.

It is once again time to go car shopping, and like always, your help, Terry, is always much appreciated.

I want to buy a third (cheap) car as my everyday work-mobile to offset my over-reliance on my two gas-guzzler V8 vehicles. Gas prices are north of $2 these days :)

I am trying to decide between three cars:

White, 2000 Camry CE, 56K miles (CD, air, power locks/windows/doors): dealer price is $8,900

Silver, 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE, 27K miles, air, AM/FM cassette, auto, power doors/locks/windows dealer OTD asking price is $10,900.

White, 1997 Honda Civic EX 4D, 42K miles, auto, loaded. private seller, one owner, garaged, excellent condition ($8,600/obo)

My OTD price is $10K tops. Which of these three is the best value/deal ? Your help, and that of others will be much appreciated.

    Thanks
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... It's hard to say which one is the best .. it's all based on what You like, and these are 3 real good ones that should see 150k+ properly serviced.

You may prefer the size of the Camry to the Sentra .. you may like the gas mileage of the Sentra over both of them, you may like the "look" of the Honda .. it's just personal taste.

But as far as the best "bang" for the buck .. the Sentra has too many miles and $9,900 would be just about all of it .. the Camry seems real cheap (so cheap, I would have it checked out) ..

I think $7,9/$8,0 for the Civic could be a winner .. just keep in mind, in the private sale business, take some "real money" .. dropping $50 bucks doesn't get much attention nowadays, but dropping a couple of grand on the kitchen table does have a tendency of getting their attention and Your price ..

Soooo, good luck and happy hunting.!

    Terry,
Can you give me a reality check for sale of my van? The wife got her SUV, and now I'm looking to move to something sportier for me and sell/trade van for an 03 Accord.

Ody is Mesa Beige, 58K miles, immaculate and shiny in-out, serviced, and with new Michellins. No damage and no transmission problems.

I know the Edmunds prices for private and trade-in values, but when I was shopping in mid Dec one dealer was offering $16K trade, and Car Max offered $13.5K.

    Thanks

..... Aaah, Memphis .. I remember you, your that cute little girl that lives down the street from Elvis ..

Ok, it's a SE, it has lot's of miles, it's a 4x4, semi new tires, handshaker .. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so if it's clean, little or few nicks and scratches, service is 100%, no 1,000 Marlboro packs in the seats, no rust, no Ribs R' Us invasions .. then trade side, you should be seeing $1,5/$2,0 ..

Good luck and say Hi to Elvis for me.

..... $16,0 in December ..? -- That's tumbleweed month and if a dealer is going to push, pull and press to snatch business, that's the time. $16,0 is ALL the Money .. you should have been there, done that and got the tee-shirt, along with the new vehicle ....

Did you get the $13,5 like this week or so .?

Went last night to look at the car I wanted. Everything going fine until trade in :) Then they had the gall to offer $6,500 without even looking at my car. Ugh. Needless to say we walked. And this was after the sales guy bringing up the KBB price for us too. Lucky for us we are not really desperate so we shall look around more.
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Terry thanks for your input. I'm partial to Omegas but I don't expect to find one of those in the glove box either.

Yeah, $26.900 sounded high to me as well. Maybe if they give me $18K for my 98 Accord...

    Hehe Transylvania Motors!!

Shoot, I was hoping for a bit more on the Caddy. . . Edmunds and KBB put it at 9K+ wholesale/trade value. . .

Guess we'll see what happens. A buddy of mine from my old dealership now works at the Cadillac store we bought from previously, so I'm hoping that when the time comes we get a reasonable deal all around, without much hassle. That's if I can talk my husband into working with him and not whatever yahoo who ups him when he's ready to buy. (He can be contrary at times. . .)

(Brakes were squeaking really bad, we got some rain, and squeaks mysteriously went away. . . I was telling him "Quick, trade now before the brake squeal comes back!" :-))

Residual is currently $23,700. . .is she in luck?

    Thanks

...... Sorry, didn't mean to hurt your feelings .. ** Edmunds and KBB put it at 9K+ wholesale/trade value ** ..

See, the problem that some of these info sources neglect to reflect is ~ the "Effect" of the high miles on vehicles .. most banks/credit unions won't finance them, most warranty companies would cover them and they can't be certified .. so what happens is, the market get dwindled by 75/85% and the dealer is stuck looking for a cash buyer .. and the cash buyers are looking for low mileage vehicles, but if a CLEAN hi mileage vehicle pops up, then they want to be waaay back of what a low mileage vehicle can cost ..

Then you have problem #2, it's a 2DR. I love Eldo's, I drive em' all the time and I'm sure your Eldo is nice .. but, it's a big 2DR, most folks due to age, business, kids, stuff and folks they carry, hobbies, etc, want the convenience of the 4DR, so that dwindles the market even more .. as much as I like Eldo's (and I have driven a bunch) .. when I get a buyer on it, it's H i s t o r y ~ this is not indigenous to Caddy's, it's any of the 2DR's, Acura's, Bimmers, Benz, etc. .. You get a lot of the Oooh, ain't it pretty, ain't it nice stuff, but a buyer is what makes the difference .. thank God it's not a handshaker .l.o.l..

                  I hope this helps .....

                      Terry.

    ...... Hi Adam .. I can't tell, what I need is the pay-off, not the residual ..

Just take the remaining payments, add them up, minus 10%, then add that figure to your residual, that will give you a "ballpark" .. if you have to know for sure - DON'T call the dealer .. call the leasing co and get a pay-off ..

                 Terry.
  • acraftonacrafton Member Posts: 99
    Terry,
Used the wrong terms. . .the PAYOFF is $23,550. Is the 2001 Saab 9-5 wagon as described (red/black leather, auto, cd, moon, heated/vented, 19K miles, in Dallas) worth that on a trade? What is the right number?

    Thanks
    Adam

    **** '01 Forester L Dark Blue Automatic w/CD & alarm.
Brand new Michelins. 60,000 miles, a few little paint chips and dings. Immaculate inside, mats a little dingy. Oh, and I'm in NH ****

Just had to make sure, I was reading this right .. $6,500 .....?

          Consumer Rated Condition: Good
"Good" condition means that the vehicle is free of any major defects. The paint, body and interior have only minor (if any) blemishes, and there are no major mechanical problems. In states where rust is a problem, this should be very minimal, and a deduction should be made to correct it. The tires match and have substantial tread wear left. A clean title history is assumed. A "good" vehicle will need some reconditioning to be sold at retail; however major reconditioning should be deducted from the value. Most recent model cars owned by consumers fall into this category.

Trade-In Value $8,740 ~~~ Now, I'm not standing there looking at it .. but here is KBB's figures with NO options and the deduct for the 60k .. and nobody really uses KBB .. I could see the high $9's, just to get your attention, but $6,500 ..?

Gheeeez, I'm not even there and even I'm insulted ...

It kills me sometimes, I talk with other dealers all the time, it's so slow, all this snow, the Shuttle, Iraq .. but they won't even get off their lazy ^*#@ and look at a vehicle ..?

Thank goodness they don't work for me - when you left, they would have been right behind you looking for a job ..! .. who was the dealer, Billie Bob and the Brain Dead Brothers .. ugh.!

                    Terry :-(
  • ginapginap Member Posts: 12
Heh! I had washed it and vacuumed and shampooed everything too! Oh well there are plenty of other dealers around here to choose from so I'm not too concerned. I was very eager to take one of those Siennas off their hands and you think they would be eager too with the new ones coming in soon. Oh well no biggie.

.... Hey, no problemo .. it's your life and were just living in it ..

The miles are low, the color is right .. as long as there is no paintwork, no Mcdonald invasions and lookin' 03 .. then trade side you should be seeing the high $19's, low low $20's .. $23,700 is more of a Retail asking price .. but then again, Saab's have never been known for their re-sale value .. sorry.

Hi. I have a 2002 Mercedes ML320 and I love it, but have a new job and need a cheaper car. So, what can i get on trade for it? It is Silver with gray leather, heated seats, bose, cd changer and comes with the third row seats. It has 20K miles on it and is in excellent condition. All maint records avail, etc. and the car is in Fort Worth, TX.

    thanks

For your help on my question of 3 cars in consideration. I do agree with you on the Camry - turns out it was involved in an accident and can best be decribed as salvage. The Sentra didn't drive too well, at least for me. Unfortunately, the guy selling the Civic has made himself scarce... Hmmmmm wonder why ? I am moving on and the search continues.

Any insight on the price range an appx. 20k mile, loaded 02 3.0QAuto might go for at finance auction?

For the mechanics out there, how does Audi A4 reliability compare to the Volvo S60?

... You have a couple of nice drivers here .. the Yota has all the stuff (too bad it's not a 4wd) auto, V8, SR5, Acab, low miles and a right color, a little kiss in the back .. trade side you should be seeing the high $16's, low to mid $17's, it all depends on the dealer .. but, a little travel down Retail Rd when it's detailed and all the history should be seeing $19,9 and let one of the Dallas cheerleaders take it home for $18/$19,5 ..

           It's not an "S" .. right ..?

Another good color, slider, bun warmers, Bose and all the stuff, the miles are a little on the stiff side .. so trade side, you should be seeing around the high $14's, might do the low low $15's, but I feel the miles will hold it back .. another trip down Retail Rd, a great ad, a great detail, all the records on the front seat .. $17,9 in the paper and $16,9/$17,5 should send it packing ..

Hey, good luck and let me know ...

                Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ...... Good morning .. new job huh.? - I hope it's something interesting ..

You have the right color going on here .. it seems to have all the toys, slider, leather etc, .. the miles are not doing well here. So if it's clean, no parking lot kisses, no funny smoke, no I love Lucy marks in the interior and no paintwork, then trade side you should be seeing somewhere in and around the low to mid $29's ... oh yeah, xo to you also .l.o.l..

                Good luck ...

                   Terry.

My lease is up on May 3 and I'm considering buying out the lease, but I'm concerned that the buyout price is higher than the car's value. Here's the information:

    2000 Chrysler LHS
    silver
32500 miles (should be right at 36K in May)
    no additional options
excellent condition, except for a scuff mark on the rear bumper

I'm in Ocala, FL. The buyout price is 14710. What do you think is a fair buyout price? Thanks for your help!
  • zueslewiszueslewis Member Posts: 2,353
Although that buyout price is about what wholesale book is right now, those LHSs are going for $2-3K under book ($10,500-12,000). Bad move.

If you want another LHS, get one in program form - you can easily spend $2K less.
  • stebustebu Member Posts: 204
This one is for a friend of mine... really. His son is looking at a 96 Maxima GLE, auto, black, black leather, all the goodies, new tires, 100K miles, looks like it's been hovered in and no nicks what so ever. Boston area. Says the dealer had it listed at $7000 but will let it go for $6500. Is it priced right or does it sound like there might still be some wiggle room?
  • zueslewiszueslewis Member Posts: 2,353
is normal at 100K miles, you still have to consider what the mileage does - there's no possible warranty, no nothing. Wholesale is around $7K, but I'd look at the $5K/5,500 range, maybe going as high as $6K.

    If there's a sunroof, add $300-400.
