...... W. Washington State .. wow, now that's a Real Left coaster .. your probably still sleeping, it's 2am left coast time (or, just leaving a bar, l.o.l.) ..

It's the right color, SE, right stuff, auto, miles are a little on the strong side, needs a little rubber .. on a trade, you should be seeing "around" the high $10's ..

Terry.
• rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Ok, here's the good news ____________

And here's the bad news .. it's got lot's of miles, it's a 4 banger, it has an elbow breaker and a handshaker, no breeze, aaahh, what can I say .. sounds like a $1,500 vehicle (maybe) on a trade ..

Terry.
• rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... All in all, $19,9 isn't a bad asking price, it's a 02, right color in and out, it has 5,0 klicks, so it's way short in miles .. I'm gonna say they have the mid to high $17's in it .. they gotta make a profit and spring isn't That far away for Philly, so I'm thinkin' the ultra high 18's, low $19's should take it home ...

But let me know ...

Terry.
• rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... If you are noticing the difference, I gotta think the UC guy is going to eyeball it also .. what that means is, they "could" hit this puppy as far back as the $8's or even less ..

I think you need to get the vehicle cleaned, just a real good car wash, then go back to the Bondo Babes and start nit picking it and get it right ... I would really have to see this pup.

Terry.
• rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The miles are ultra low for the year .. a non-Quattro in the north doesn't get people all lined (in FL, it would be the opposite) ..

So let's say it has a Great history all the way around, let's say it's a nice vehicle all through the inside and out .. let's say it has the sport package, let's say I'm hungry and I would like to get some breakfast .. they might have $4,5ish in it .. $5,9ish is more of a fair price for both ...

Terry ;-)

Now you've got me thinking...
"Well, the 740 IS a bit underpowered, and it needs a headliner and a new dash...etc..."
:-)
Umm, the place should work with either Netscrape or IE...I dunno. Try it with both and see if you get the same result.

Due to a job change, I'm a 30k a year driver (all commuting, all highway), and my BMW 5-series lease is almost up (I'm breaking even on the mileage, good news since I had one of the last of the 3yr 67% residual leases).

Question is - if I tend to trade out every two to three years, am I better off leasing and buying the mileage (excess depreciation) at $.15/per (or $2500 a year), or buying the darn thing and trying to sell it in 3yrs with 90,000 miles?

The big unknown being the lease end value of the car - with the lease I clap my hands and walk away, where on the purchase I'm stuck trying to trade/sell the thing.

The next car will be another bimmer with a stick - either a 5 series (530/540) or a 330xi.

Thanks!

A friend is selling his 1998 Volvo S70 T5. It's fully loaded, including the sports suspension and is automatic. It has less than 10, 000 miles; that's right, no misprint, 10,000 not 100,000.
Edmunds says the TMV for a private party sale is $16, 800.

Kelly Blue Book says the car is only worth $15,500 for a private party sale even at this ultra low mileage.

How much would be a fair price for this car in a private party sale?

Original asking price was $9995. That and no Quattro, it's no wonder the Audi hasn't sold yet. I spotted it a few months ago, and then saw it a few days ago in an ad with their new price of $6995. Sometimes cars don't sell for whatever reason, but it doesn't help when you put an incredibly high ask price to begin with.

Guys - thanks in advance, need private party and trade in numbers for the following...

2001 BMW 325Ci, 27k, auto, premium pkg, sport pkg, cold weather pkg, xenons, HK sound, original tires with about 50% tread left. Color is charcoal with black interior.

Located in Westchester, NY.

Thanks again...

Hey guys...its me again...still hunting for a convertible. After driving a TT Roadster, and finding out that the insurance on an SLK is cheaper than a TTR, I'm leaning towards an SLK....according to Edmunds, all the ones I've found online are waaay overpriced. Here's what I'm looking for...
2001 SLK 320
Handshaker
Xenons & [non-permissible content removed] Toasters
Black/Black
25k miles or less, might stretch up to 30k
I'm willing to travel anywhere in the country

What's the going rate?

...... Great description.!! -- "Trying to help a friend's wife", yeah yeah, I have heard that one before ..

It's the right color, dual air, right rear end, miles are right, except for a little this and a that probably a pretty nice vehicle, it would be much better if it was a 4x4 ..

Trade side, you should be seeing the ultra high $11's, low $12's ..

Good luck ...

Terry.

...... Hey Dan ~ Great question .. I'm not much for the lease deals, I have seen too many folks get lost and lose Big time .. but, you do seem to know what you are doing here.

You know and understand your "future" and the miles that go with - and smart enough to pay upfront for it ..

I know $7,500 seems like a lot of money (and it is.!) .. but most folks would be lookin' to spend a lot more if they bought a new vehicle and piled up 90k in 3 years .. probably the best example would be is: If you had bought a New 2000 528i in 00 and logged in 90k, the vehicle "might" be worth in and around the $13ish range (with it being super clean and needing -0-) on a trade - if you went to sell it, you "might" see $15/$16,0 .. so that's a $13/$14 grand hit on the retail side .. a nice clean 00 528i with 20/30k might see $28/$29 ..

I hope this helps ...

Terry.

..... Hmmm, the miles are super, ultra low, this is a rare bird .. but along with the super low miles, does it stand tall .?

Sometimes if a vehicle has low low miles and it's older, folks get a little jittery .. but if it looks and drives - 02 ~ it glows in the dark, no scratches, no paintwork, no special items in the interior, tires aren't getting ready to cave-in, then on the retail side I would start it at $16,5 and take $15,5/$16,0 .. the one thing about a vehicle like this, don't get to greedy, this will probably be a cash buyer or someone with a home equity loan, most lenders "might" shy away with it cuz' of the year or shorten up the term, which could make the vehicle a little pricey ..

But let me know on this one, you have my interest ..

Dan,
if you can buy miles for 15cents a pop on a flippin' 5-series... DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!
I dislike leasing; I always figure it's bad enough to have to ask the bank if you can buy a car; with a lease you have to ask if you can sell it, too....
But in your case, it sounds like a winner.
Want cheaper, and still a Bimmer? Buy whatever you like new and put 300,000 miles on it... do the maintenance and the car will do it, they're built to be driven.
(Then sell it to me, cheap!)

I think it ought to be worth about $24-25K on trade assumign it's just super nice.

If you go to sell it, I would ask $28,500/bo and grab in the $27s...

Bill (& terry),

The 4 dr prices are close enough.

You guys were close to what they offered. My new BMW deal looks dead .... unless he lowballed and comes back a LOT higher! So far apart I didn't even counter offer. He says same as you guys: "soft market". Doesn't soft market mean he has to try harder? This way he gets nada, I get nadan.... and maybe he loses a lifetime client.

Crazy thing is: they offered $16.5K (real cash $$) about 8 months ago. (sorry I passed) Figured a 6 yr old car doesn't depriciate THAT much, so I could still get near that. Is the market THAT crazy???

Also: there's a LIT of BMW on the streets here -- that can mean a flooded market, but the other side of that is big demand? Maybe I'll stick a sign on it in the driveway and see what happens. Guy next door did that with a '77 Benz and got 20K within two weeks.

Damned discuraging. Sorry now I bought the '97 ... If I take that little in trade, it's cost me as much to own as new would have .... I bought used for better value expecting to see a good trade by now .... depriciation as bad as a NEW car .... that REALLY SUCKS!

Maybe a used E46 is in the cards if that market is equally soft, but I'll be happy enough to stay with what I have to get my money's worth (or for a market change).

I could go at retail, but you guys know what a PITA dealing with car buyers (like me) can be. <G>

I was back to being a BMW owner forever .... not so sure now. Will check out Accura, Infiniti & maybe MB to see what they'll offer. If it's near invoice and a great trade ... who knows what I'll do. I like BMW's best, but if overall value stinks, I'll switch.

The Bronzit 635 -- yea @ $2.5 Trade now, but an exceptional car that did and can still bring more given an interested buyer. People notice it, ask and are amazed when I say it's an '87. I gave you WAY MORE THAN I SHOULD HAVE for it <G> .... but not sorry about THAT deal .... don't think I ever will be.

Got the email about the 2000 323/328 prices. Not too encouraging. Will reply soon to explain.

As always .... George

Lanzz: you selling or buying? If selling drop me an email. Address shoud be in my profile. I've been looking to trade my '97 328 up to new(er), maybe we can talk.

On the other hand .. I have to consider .....

Bill's advice is usually good, but I'm wondering .... he said $27 retail ... I can buy a new *2004* for only $10K more and make up some w/ good BMW financing over a private deal .. so I dunno ..

Any thoughts, Bill?
This doesn't sound like a soft market quote to me <G>. Or am I being unreasonable?

I dunno why E36s have gone soft myself.. I mean, they have fallen hard lately it seems. I dont buy a lot of them, but they sure are getting cheaper.

Maybe it's with all of the E46s all over the used market now? A lot of stuff has gotten cheap.. Jag XJ8s, XJ6s, MB S-Classes..etc..

Stuff that would do $14K at the sale a year ago now does $9K.. and we're not talking late model stuff!

Oh yeah, that 635.. I havent seen one as nice since! Take care of it! And that damn AC unit better be Ice freaking cold!! <G>
As far as the car Lanzz co-worker has.. that's $10K you're ahead fo the game upfront.... I'd personally rather pay up another $1500-2K and get a real low-miler meself.

Hey guys...got a question about the infamous '94 Accord.
Again, the facts:
'94 Accord LX coupe, black over tan cloth (interior's about perfect)
5-speed
new(ish) tires
all maintenance
126,000 miles.
The bad: it's beginning to get a little rear fender "Honda rust", and the rear bumper cover has a hole in the corner from a little parking lot encounter on the part of Mrs. Lance. I don't want to trade it in; I'd rather sell it privately, either to a co-worker (he's expressed interest in it, for his teenage kids; he doesn't want them learning to drive in the snow in a RWD car) or to a student at the university where Mrs. Lance works. So: the question- is it worth fixing the bumper (quoted $425) and/or the rust prior to sale, or not?

Hello, I'm planning to trade-in this SUV, what can I get for it?

2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE 4X2
Color: Burnt Cherry (Burgundy)
Leather Seats
Dual Power Seats
Dual Air Bags
Dual front side airbags
Automatic Temperature Control
Garage-kept, non-smoker, no pets
No noticeable dings and scratches
Exceptionally maintained and serviced according to schedule
21,331 miles and is shinier than when I bought it

If I were to privately sell this, how much would be a good asking price and what offer should I take? Feedback would be most appreciated. Thanks.
• rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Fix it ..? - heck no, I would just divorce Mrs. Lance .. Kidding.!

It's a 94, it has 124,000 big klicks and it should have a kiss here and a kiss there .. if you had the right connections, you could have the work done for $150/$200, but even so, just have it detailed if it makes a difference. This way they know exactly what they are buying, and there is no hard feelings anywhere, anytime ..

10k miles
Auto
Black interior (I know hot for Florida)
HUD, sport seats, Cd all the goodies
Transferable warrenty
Looks And smells like new.

Thanks Tom

Yea, but prices going soft so fast is what's frustrating. I lost $6K (>33%) not taking the deal 8 mos ago! It's like the freaking stock market! If I get an E46 anywhoo ... will that crash in 3-4 years and leave me screwed? I could buy Hyundai and do better ... or could lease, but don't like the rigidity.

Besides ... this market *should* mean I can get super good used e46 prices from this dealer (or you) .... Right?

Or .. will trade prices IMPROVE in 6 months (if we get past the Iraq mess)? May be rare, but not much to lose, and I can wait.

Besides: He's offered @$4K LESS than the "guaranteed" trade from CarsDirect.com w/ about same sale price. I'd just rather not use them.

THink A/C's OK in the 636 but too damn cold since Sept to tell.

PS: Drove an Infiniti G35 today. IMPRESSIVE car, (it might change my mind ... I'd expect their resale to be weak anyway). Bad think is they say "STICKER PRICE: end of story"!

VERY strong resale at this point... I was inquiring a few weeks ago, '03 G35's w/ 15k miles were doing ONLY $1-2k back of the new ones. absolutely crazy. You'd be better off there, in my humble opinion, to buy new.

...... Hey Tom, how are you .?

Sounds like a pretty nice one, no miles, auto, all the nice toys .. on a trade, in and around the $29's (seats might hold it back) .. down Retail Rd, $34,9 and $33,5/$$34,5 should see a new owner ...

I hope all is well ...

I'm not really sure what you mean by this but, most of the times, it is parked inside our 2-car garage (I lived in a fully-detached bungalow). It is only used to drive my kids around town, which is mainly on the weekends. Thanks.

Bill/Terry (or anyone else that would like to opine),

Been following this discussion for a long time – thanks a million for all your good advice. Now I am faced with a bit of a quandary. With 2 kids and all the activities, we need to have at least one vehicle that seats 6-8. Where we live, we need 4wd or AWD – and our two Subies are perfect. Unfortunately, no 7 passenger Subie yet.

I am considering the 2004 AWD Toyota Sienna, but the $$$ are high. Was hesitant to consider 2000-2002 Chrysler T&C AWD, because of the perceived lack of reliability. But given the $$$ for new, and the soft used car market, and your advice in the past that a 2 year old used vehicle is the best value - should I re-consider?

Are there any “good/reliable” AWD minivans out there (1-2 year old), and what are they going for?

Is there anything else I should consider? My wife does not want something huge like the Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, and I did not like the Suzuki XL-7 when I had one as a rental.

By the way this would be a straight purchase with no trade.

Dave
