No dents. I've got two scratches (one-inch long) on the back just left of the rear window. They were there when I bought the car (I bought it as a demo). Should I try to cover them up or just leave them? How much will this hurt my value?
Also, this car came with free oil changes and tires for life. Is that typically transferrable?
Thanks for your help.
Miles in this case are probably truly highway miles - the family lives in rural WI and the owner commuted 25 miles one way to the school he taught at. Pretty much all roads in that part of the state are freeways/highways. Not that I hope to convince the seller about highway miles... just ranting.
That would a 3 dr 2000 Integra LS.
30k, silver, 5-spd, tires at about 50%, a few paint blemishes, good condition...
Thanks
Yep, Terry, the car's all there, and not bondo. Heck, I drive so gently most of the time that the original set of brake pads still have life in them. That's the whole idea of a good sports car (even with modest horsepower)--you don't have to slow down for turns!
I'll miss this car, but I need something bigger now, though not urgently. I'll let you know how it turns out.
My MR2 will debut in its first SCCA autocross on April 26th. Yeehaa!

2000 Toyota Avalon XLS, beige/tan/light gold color, tan leather, 38K miles, all the bells & whistles... alloys, roof, bun warmers, keyless entry, auto dim mirror, CD/cass (in dash - not sure if single CD or multiple), etc, etc..... in western PA.
Dealer is asking $22,988.
What think you? Thanks

This one wholesales at $19,725, but a dealer can pick it up for about $16,500-17,000. After shipping, prep, service, etc, he's in it for $18,000-18,500. A strong offer at $19,000-19,500 should make you an owner.
These boards are an invaluable resource to both consumers and sellers. Hopefully everyone comes out a bit wiser...
ANY car will get sludged with no maintenance. Again I'll say that the lawfirm I work for has NEVER taken a sludge lemon law case and I've never seen a sludged Toyota V6 that had anything NEAR normal maintenance. I've been doing this for two years and there's a bunch of V6 Toyota vehicles within these three states (PA/NJ/DE)!
I simply don't buy it. It's lack of maintenance.
And lest I get yelled at for "off-topic", it hardly is when we're discussing Avalon values.
Ceterum Censeo: There is a problem in the sense that these V6s are sensitive to infrequent oil changes.
I researched this a bit and came across a lot of reports from obvious flakes, a few reports from people who sounded legit ("my 5th Toyota, never had a problem, what's going on?"), and plenty of Toyota "militants" who insist that ANY fault with a Toyota has GOT to be the owner's fault. Right. I'm German, I know the tune "Vee dont make mistehks"; wonder what it sounds like in Japanese.
One of the items I found was an article by the American Petroleum Institute saying that the average oil change interval in America today is 15,000 miles. That's what it said, I'm not making it up, and I don't have the reference, and I don't even know if it's true. Since that includes all the sickos hanging out here, myself included, who change at 3-5k intervals, that means plenty of cars don't get their oil changed nearly often enough. When you think about how people handle their finances, why would their car maintenance be any better?
So it may well be true.
And if it is, you have a better chance surviving with a pushrod Chevy engine than a DOHC V6 that makes 210 horses out of 3 liters. In that sense, I'd say, be very careful when you buy one of these Toyotas.
I know what I'm talking about, I bought two Siennas in the last 9 months; one used, one new, and I wouldn't have bought the used one without the Toyota extended "gel" warranty. As it turned out, my '98 with 54k miles is just fine, and the new one I don't worry about in any case.
The whole thing is kind of why I like new cars -- or 100k milers that I can get cheap. I figure the car made it this far, the owner musta kept it up...
Rant/off.

I take the car over to the local Carmax who put $29K on the car - about what I thought, maybe a little high. We then go together to the Chrysler store where they proceed to 'take it out back' and make sure it all works (or figure out what the buttons do . . .). They come back 30 min later with $26K. At which point I tell them that seems low and that Carmax has put $29K on it (and show them the offer). They hemmed and hawed and the sales manager said that if we come back tomorrow he will 'personally' take it down to the used car manager to see what they can do . . .
What gives? Is Carmax on drugs or is the Chrysler dealer trying to take my friend? I could understand maybe $1000 diff, but $3K?! Also, wouldn't the Chrysler guys have more 'room' since they are also making up $ on the new car (the price she is getting is fair to all - not a grind price and one she could beat if she chose to to to another dealer but, until this, these guys have been nice to her and she likes them).
Help me understand the disparity and comments on what I should tell here (other than to sell it to Carmax which I know is an option).
Adam
-Anything- for our brave men risking their lives and kicking butt over in the gulf - what type of Benz, model, tires, color, miles, Full description, condition, etc, etc, etc ..
God bless them all ..!
Terry.
It is a 2002 MB 320 - White exterior, tan leather interior, sunroof and rear window vents, bose,cd changer, seat heaters, side step bars, auto, hitch, 18K miles, tires 50%. Really clean inside and out, obviously well maintained. Located in the Dallas/Ft Worth area.
If I didn't already have one I would be all over it.
Thanks
Adam
It's seems like Carmax stepped up to the pump, $29,0 is just about all of it, "could" "might" "maybe" see $30,0 on a good day with the right run numbers, but I feel carmax is all in at $29 .. ML's aren't really in big demand, but it's definitely worth $29,0.
It's Thee right color inside and out, it's got all the extra stuff and the miles are ok ... But the Question is, why is the Chrysler store hitting it at $26 .? - Good question, but hard to answer ..
They may not even know what they have .. they may have a "young" new UC Mgr who doesn't know the market, they may have a old UC Mgr that has just sold Chryslers for the last 10 years, or perhaps their loaded up with ton's of bad inventory, it "might" depend on who runs the operation, and maybe he was off that day ~ just because they are "in" the Auto business doesn't mean they "Know" the business, perhaps a lack of communication on both sides, maybe they don't understand your connection with the deal -- it's hard to say ..
Me personally, I wouldn't be afraid to let the Chrysler store take a 2nd shot at it .. and if they don't step up (both being cordial) then go to another dealer that you might feel more comfortable with .. ** in my stupid humble opinion, I feel this "may" be a communication problem, I remember a few times when a FL customer was shopping for a family member inbound from NY, sometimes we took them seriously and sometimes we didn't - It would all depend on how they "presented" it. **
I hope this helps .. This does have my interest, so let me know ...

I have talked, drank, ate, golfed, cruised with boat loads of Yota dealers (and their techs) ..
I don't have to tell you, there is no sludge secrets after awhile .l.o.l.. 99% of these problems have been do too, oil changes every 15/20k (whether they need them or not) .. going to Lenny's linguine lube and filter, and saving money by Not getting the filter, buying straight 50 wt in Minnesota in January, and using the new special "Saturn" steroid treatment oil/additive that came on infomercials at 3am ..
Could these be the best 4/6 banger on the market, maybe, I dunno -- but these Are Not a Cummins dsl, or a Mercruiser 502 that is "built" to run at ultra high speeds at 8000 RPM for umpteen miles and hrs .. everything I have ever heard was due to misuse, is there a bad one rolling around out there someplace, I'm sure - but I know I have seen potpourri of them out there with 150/200/250k, I feel like they are like any other good motor out there, you take care of it, and it will take care of you, is this a Yota commercial, nope .. GM/Ford builds some great ones, but you have to change their oil and filters also, try to keep it around 5k, not 15k .l.o.l.
Terry.
Yep, just make sure the history is fine .. it's a XLS, right color, miles are just ok, depending on where the dealer got the vehicle, he probably paid in and around the high $17's, low $18's .. a little this, a little that, service, pack, detail, might have close to $19 in it .. I think Zues kinda missed this one, they "still" pull big $$ anywhere (I guess they wear night goggles when they buy em') .. $22,988 ..? thats a wonderful price.! - IF, you a tank commander in a Russian/Iraqi T72 tank .. I'm thinkin' around $21ish might float that boat ...
Terry.
As usual, thanks so much for your time.

Now, what's it worth today with 3,000 more miles on it. Did I mention that it was AWD? :-) (just joking - not planning on selling anytime soon).
Thanks for the pricing feedback!

I keep looking for a Quest like the one I had, but no luck. I'm scared of the Windstalls, so it will probably be a Dodge Grand Caravan Sport AWD or a Chrysler T&C AWD.
We thought about an Outback wagon, but dang, with 2 kids and a dog, we outgrow cars fast.

If you didn't hit any mooses, antelopes, seals, monkeys, lions, tigers or bears - oh my.! -- 40k right .? ~~ then it's worth all of the high $8's, low $9's on a trade, will still see the $11's on the retail side .... amazing.! -- do you need a job transporting vehicles ..? :-))

Good luck ...

I'm about ready to throw my hands up and just stay a one car family. Told hubby that this morning, he about blew a gasket.
It's gotta be worth the the tall tall $15's, mid $16's (depending on where you live) .. dealers are always on the hunt for the ultra low, ultra nice ones -- or better yet, I would be hanging this one down Retail Rd .. $18,9 in the paper and $17,9/$18,5 sends it to the land of bye bye ....

MSRP was $19,195.oo and this is in Sacramento, CA.

Dealer saw one listed at the auction and said he'd get it for me (if nice) for $30,500. Sounded high with this soft market, so I took a pass. Should I press him for another at a better price come the next auction?
This was the only 2001 Coupe. Will prices go down as more come through and go on the block? I got time to wait for the right deal.
As a PS: is saving a few bucks bying a car that went through auction worthwhile? I know it shows on the carfax so will it hurt me on trade later? Am I better paying a BMW dealer who knows the car he's selling more than a reseller who's just flipping it for a fast buck?
I want to buy a new Honda Accord EX-V6 and get rid of (that sounds so harsh) my 1994 Camry LE. The Camry has 92,000 miles, is white with grey cloth interior and is immaculate inside (no kids or pets). The upholstery barely looks sat in. The paint outside doesn't have any big problems, just the usual minor rear bumper scratches. There are no dents.
The car has the LE standard features (power windows, doors, AM/FM cassette, etc.) plus a sliding moonroof. Everything works perfectly and is intact.
It has Pirelli grand touring tires that have probably a year or two of life on them, depending on how much someone drives.
I don't know whether to trade in to a Honda dealer or try to sell it on my own. 1994 LEs with 50,000-150,000 miles are listed in my area for $5900 to $6800 (through dealers and private sales). Is that realistic? Given these sale prices, would I be better off selling privately?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
As a rule, most folks don't trade a "3" for another 3, they will move up to a "5" or a Jag, Lexus, Hummer, whatever. That's the reason why the Bimmer dealers are there, cuz' folks are trading in their Caddy, Taurus, Mustang, Benz on the new vehicle and the dealers need to stay stocked in what the sell best, Bimmers - ever see someone looking for a Windstar at the Bimmer store .l.o.l..
But the point being is, are you getting a better deal at the "starched shirt store" or a "knowledgeable" auction buyer that knows Imports .. it depends on the price. I have never been a believer in all this "certified" crap, and if you have read these posts long enough, either are the Edmund's Hosts.
I'm not running an Ad here, but I too have bought many vehicles -direct- for customers at the auctions, we come to an easy "agreed" upon price, it would depend on the vehicle, the auction and Most of all, their expertise. Just because they go to auctions, doesn't mean they know what they are doing, and that goes for just about any BMW, Ford, Mitsu, Acura, Yota, Dodge, Porsche dealer .. if you know what I mean.
If you feel ultra comfortable with this person and their knowledge, I would think a "fair" price for both would be ~~ he gets the right vehicle, You pay for all fuel, transport, auction fee's, lunch, toll's, stuff like that and he get's a ghee whiz or so ($1,0/$1,500) for the Bimmer buy after it's all said and done (Thats just my stupid, humble opinion).
So right now, clean, nice 01 20/25k 330CI's, with auto are doing "in and around" the $26/$27ish range .. seems like, you guys weren't that far away from Jump street anyway .. forget about the Carfax stuff, a large minority of the vehicles on the roads today came from the auctions .. I waited 43 days for my Dads Jag to get rolled through the auction before I bought it back, I wasn't going to pay that residual .l.o.l...
good luck and let me know ...

What would be retail/wholesale on a:
2002 Toyota Tundra, SR5 Xtra cab, V8, medium red with tan cloth, 4X4, 10,000 miles, in "the wrapper". My neighbor has this as a dealer car from a Nissan dealer (he being the dealer), and it caught my eye.
Not sure of any other options (it is AT, CD, etc). In southern NJ.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Can you help me urgently answer this question ? Thanks
'03 Matrix XR, white, 10K miles, auto, power all, moonroof, 16" alloys, am/fm/cassette/CD (w/ 6-speakers), fog lights, the works..... Located in So Cal. Dealer (BMW - from a trde-in), is asking $14985. I guess they recently lowered it from $16,9. Been sitting on the lot since 02/28/03. We settled on 14,7, but wife is balking. I think it is a good price. What do you guys think ? If everything goes OK, I'll probably pull the trigger tomorrow (Monday).
Thanks for your help (much anticipated with bated breadth....)
