I had a friend just do this same thing on a chevy pickup. He simply liked the '01 leftover. So, what does he do? He pays the same amount as he would have if he ordered a brand new one in exactly the color and trim that he wanted straight from the factory. I pleaded with him not to do it.... but he just had to have it. Hope he feels that way in 4 years.

BTW, both Terry, & Bretfraz gave me great advice on selling this car last Fall. I decided not to sell at that time, then spent the next 6 months looking at it sitting in the garage--man, you have to be dedicated to own something this impractical in New England. Maybe I'll get a 5 y.o. Volvo T-5 or Saab 9000 Aero after I sell the M6.......not quite as sexy, but fast & waaaaay better in the snow.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
No, it wasn't a case of moving money around to show more on the trade--I bought a Mazda Protege5 and I got S-Plan pricing, $1500 Mazda rebate, $500 Auto show discount. They couldn't have been hiding anything there. I think $3000 was a generous offer by them and I'm really happy with my salesperson and with the dealership.
That's it--just wanted to let you know the outcome. Once again, thanks for providing this service to the Edmunds community.
All righty then, we have a 2000 "John Travolta" 2 with 16k, silver in color (leather.?) and I would guess its gotta be like new .. probably has $18,0 in it, maybe a little more, wants $22 .. with a great history, $20/$21 would be more like it ... The Civic is worth "around" $7,5, maybe $8 on a big fat push, TrailBlazers are kinda having a ho hum life, 30k is waay stiff, color is ok, worth maybe $18ish ...
Let me know .......

You should be able to by a 2003 SE or GLE with everything but Nav for around 26K.
My Opinion.

The 00 ES with a handshaker is worth around $6ish, so add a little this and that, let's say they are done at $6,5 .. a fair price for both would be "around" $8,0ish, $8,5 for the low milers 25k .. by the way, don't be afraid of any vehicle if it's nice, clean and a good history ... (if the price is right) ..

ANYWAY, I'm hooked up. Found me a ... get this ... '93 Sentra SE-R. 5 spd, air, cruise, and get this - 36k documented, no kidding, Carfax verified, honest-to-goodness miles! I've wanted one of these for years. I got it for $3600 - I feel like I stole it!
Thanks again,
Jason
You're a bad bad bad bad man and you'll pay for it in the afterlife... and it's probably worth it. 36,000 miles $3600, makes sense... good thing it wasn't 72,000 miles, you might have not been able to afford it...

ok, so we're talking 7,5 beans on the civic? well, better than i expected, but she still won't be happy. i think she'll have to finish her lease on it.
sorry to do this, but let me squeeze a couple more past you and see what comes out.
Do you see many '02 trailblazer EXTs going through auction? they seem to be a rare animal. I'm hearing "i want the third row seat" over here on this end, but the new '03s are definitely off the price radar. So i'm wondering if the '02s exist and what i might be able to pick one up for. gotta be an LT with the moonroof.
and, finally, just for kicks, howzabout an '03 Freelander S in blue with 4K miles? Dealer has a tag on it for $21,9.

Your advice is well taken about the marketplace.
That's why I wanted your advice...
Many thanks, Terry, I'll post results.

Which brings me to my next question: I have a 2000 BMW 528iT, premium pck, cd, black/tan lthr.,16K miles, CPO warranty. GREAT car (I remember that either you, or Bill, gave me advice on doing the deal before I bought it). Great car, except for 2 things: driving in snow, (duh), altho it's passable with snow tires, & visibility: sometimes it's very hard to see around a corner when pulling out, or see over snow drifts, etc. because you're sitting down so low. So I've been thinking of trading it for an AWD vehicle: X5, MDX, or Volvo XC. I'm a bit worried about reliability with the X5 or Volvo--people seem to either have great luck with those, or are driven crazy by electrical & other problems. I like both tho, & the Volvos have such great seats. Audi's, I like, but am even more wary of. What's your personal take or preference on any of that, including the MDX? So far my E39 has not given me a minute of trouble. BTW what do you think it's worth now? Oh, & there's a new 5 coming out soon--not sure how that will affect the value of mine?
Also I talked to my prospective M6 buyer tonight--he sounds like a "live one"; I'll keep you posted.
thanks! woody
*- ('03 ..??) Freelander S in blue with 4K miles? Dealer has a tag on it for $21,9. **
$21,9 ...? for an 03 ..? 4k ...?
1.) check history
2.) grab checkbook
3.) drive to dealer (in a hurry)
4.) grab Salesperson
5.) duct tape him/her to desk
6.) give money
7.) sign proper papers
8.) stop at Chart House for big dinner and enjoy both with sexy pics
9.) don't forget to make first payment
$21,9 ..? - 03's are doing the $25's at any auction in America.
The Masters ..? Don't you know anything ...? it's those famous Lobster races they usually have in Georgia ... ;-)
Terry.
MDX's are nice, not much discounting going on, used or new .. I Do like those new XC90's, I feel there is a little hinky news propaganda on the Volvo's, there is just too many of them rolling around with 200/250k .. I do like the new Muranos/Infiniti's, X5's are expensive - duuuh , what am I saying, there all expensive ..
The best thing you can do is .. get your top 4/5 list going, then go to the dealers, early am is best, drop your license and drive each one for an hr or so .. ya know, no salesman, your streets, hills, drive-ins, malls, Home Depot, Ambiance, Wal marts, Fredricks of Hollywood, whatever ..
Like I always say ...
Buy and drive what YOU like ...
Terry. (aah, by the way, let me know)
1)2000 Toyota Tundra SR5 4x4 LB,4.7 v8 ,pw ,pl, cruise,auto,dark red,13000 miles,near perfect condition.
2)1995 Toyota Supra twin turbo, 6 speed, targa top ,ac,ps,pw,pl,cruise, leather, 58000 miles,a few paint chips but otherwise mint.
Both in the philadelphia area.
Thanks
Now the Supra is a real rare bird .. miles are a little tall and it better show like an 01, deep in sneakers, no paint work, seats look hovered in, service 100%, etc. You "may" "might" find a little problem with this one, they are few and far between and the books don't show the "real value" on em' .. so it's back to "depending on the dealer thing" .. it's gotta be worth $22/$24 if it's a nice one. I bought one from a dealer in Wisc in Dec with 41k and it was a baby doll, I ebayed in Jan for $26,9 .. so whats that tell ya, sometimes the dealer has no idea what it might be worth, you can email me if you have any other questions ..
Terry.
with all the options.

Sorry, watching the Masters and printing at the same time, plaques my little brain .. ok, - "03" Freezelander - "S" .. NOT an -SE- .. gheeeeez, that's like trying to drive a ball 250 yds with a 9 iron .. they are doing the high $18's, low $19's with low par miles .. fore .!
Terry
thanks again.
If any of "yall" are ever in Houston, the drinks are on me.

well, just for an update, the vehicle that has finally caught all the attention around here is the Honda Pilot. I'm certainly not one for new cars these days, but what can ya do? Tried to buy one yesterday but couldn't get anyone to step up on our trade or come down more than $500 off the Pilot. We'll keep trying.
Thanks, as always, for all the help.
* lobster races, huh? Yeah, be careful, I lost my shirt to a bookie on last year's event.

2000 Accord EX V6 sedan
50,000 miles
Signet Silver (kind of a dark silver) over gray leather
Rear spoiler
Aftermarket fog lights
Interior is spotless
Exterior appeared to be in great shape (it was kinda dark though)
She paid $15,900 in Atlanta. Good deal?
Considering a toy, want to know what my risk factor is should I decide I hate it:
2000 Honda S2000, Silver, 60k miles, Pennsylvania, Lo-Jack system, clean.

We have a 1996 Acura 3.5RL with 140,000 miles. It's the base model (not Premium). The only option we have is the 6-disc CD changer.
There is one scratch on the front bumper and one in the rear bumper. The local body shop here in NJ said that they could fix both for about $300.
Let me know if you need any more info to come up with a trade-in value.
Thanks. I really appreciate how you help everyone here at Edmunds TH.

The specs: 1999 Blazer 2-door 4x4 LS, standard equipment and power goodies plus towing package (never used of course), black with beige interior, 74200 miles (oof), tires and brakes have 1/3 to 1/2 their life remaining, some minor parking lot kisses but no serious dents or body damage, no rust on body (the undercarriage appears to have some surface rust in places however), no lurking freedom fries of which I'm aware. If I detailed it and had 4-5 minor paint flaws repaired, it would probably "look 2001", but from the KBB web site it seems that the best I could hope for on trade is in the low-to-mid $6k's. Am I close?
On the other hand, what if I decided to retail it myself (which I've never done before)? I'm in the Northland of St. Paul, MN, by the way.
Thanks in advance!
We put it in the paper for $27,900 and the 2nd looker/buyer bought it, a retired military gentleman from your neck of the woods. We had to wait a week for the balance of the money, but it all went smooth for $26,900. Now, she thinks she wants one of those convertible VW's, at this rate she's going to have us all drinking in no time.
A super thank you!

condition, leather. 25k miles. Wells Fargo trying to maintain the price in lease end agreement, apprx 19K. Can anyone give me an idea of what they will get in the auction, if I do not buy it? Lease up in May.

Miles are stiff, but it's a Honda, if it's been cared for, service is all there, no AK 47's in the trunk, no paint work, tires are deep, looks and runs 20k, then they probably have $17/$17,5 in it -- spring has sprung up north, so I'm guessing they are looking at $19,900 .. I do hafta admit, these are nice vehicles ..

Also, my mother is selling her Toyota Tundra, 2001, SR5, extended cab, V8, auto, PW, PDL, PS, A/C, cloth, keyless, fogs, 32k miles, black/grey, plenty of rubber, meticulous records (every gas fill up even) but the best part is, its in East Texas, let's assume it looks near new...even though its going to need some touch up getting there.
Thanks!
Seems like our boys at KBB have hit one, give those boys a cigar .. Hey, 1 out 5 aint bad, I gotta agree, somewhere in and around the $6's on a trade .. or, take a little trip down Retail RD, great detail, great 5 liner ad in the biggest paper in your area for $8,900 and let some nice Field Commander take it home for $7,5/$8,500 ..
Good luck ...

1994 Chevy K2500, x-cab, 7.4L V-8, auto, 4x4, 131k, new sneakers, black & red/gray, factory cab steps, in perfect shape for its age, looks like an 02 (and frequently gets mistaken for a much newer truck), no ff invations, looks great inside, smells good too, captains chairs, pwr everything, am/fm cass, cruise, tilt, ice cold a/c. Lots of recent work done to it and it runs like a 10k mile truck. We paid $11,995 for it 2 months ago and will own it free and clear in less than 30 days. Let's give hubby a reality check on his gas hog....I'm thinking its worth nothing on trade and around $9ish on the retail side.
It really is a very nice truck, no dings, scratches, or other problems, no wrecks either. I hate to see him get rid of such a beauty, but then again 9 mpg is getting a little hard to deal with, he wants a diesel.
44 days and counting until I get my Corolla.
60K miles, automatic transmission, one owner
Pacific Blue Metallic exterior
Grey cloth interior
New tires
NO extras like sunroof or heated seats
Thanks for the info!
In other words, will the higher number of LEs avail on the resale market in 3 years lower the value compared to the SE, which would be in much smaller availibility, or will there be much less demand for the SE, causing the values to be about the same? Confused yet?
Thanks!
Thanks.
