I forgot to mention that they are located in Wilmington, Delaware (that's 40 miles south of Philadelphia, PA)
Thanks
Now if you were considering some typically long lived vehicles, you might have a good strategy, but there are just darned few 95 Jimmys, Bravada, or Blazer that last as long as 117K. Ditto for the 97 Jeep at 97...
None of these items are cheap.
If you have a chance, do you know about how much a Honda Civic EX coupe with auto, CD changer and 78K miles might go for at auction? The car was in a minor accident, but still looks excellent. Oh, and its hunter green, if that matters.
This vehicle belonged to the soon-to-be-wife of a friend/co-worker. She decided to trade because the two of them are going to build a house after they get hitched (in 19 days, yikes!), and 2 cars (he drives an IS300) just doesn't cut it. So, she's got a Toyota Tacoma club cab with the TRD off-road option :-)
I have another co-worker who ditched his Jetta for a 2003 Accord. He loves it, but I hate the droopy rear end. Seems like the car hit late middle-age. I think the 2003 coupe is lovely. Of course, if you want to talk about ugly, there's the new Camry...
Just my opinion,

Gheeeez, I would hose em' down first, send them to their corners and let them think about it first ... !
Was crazy nut's when the new Camry first came out, I thought it was great (that's always a bad sign for me) .. now, ho-hum .. the new ES300 is waaay off sales because of the new style ~~ now let's see how that new 04 Bimmer "5" series does .. cough, hack, sneeze .. what were they thinkin' ..? they can't sell the new "7" .. oh well, not my money.
Terry.
Probably white (l.o.l) auto, 85k, small V8 .. no I drove over a low bridge hits, no I like driving through the woods and scratching the *#%$ out of the sides, service all done, clean, deep rubber, cold air, shows like 02 with 20k ... then trade side in and around the high $8's, low low $9's .. if it needs stuff, start deducting.

b) private party sale

Thanks for your help on pricing my 1990 190E 2.6(needed water pump, A/C charge, power window fix).. I ended up selling it through the paper for $1600. Disclosed the known problems with the car, and think I did ok (better than charitable donation or dealer!). The car looks great--the buyer will probably fix it himself and resell for a nice profit. Thanks again for your help on this.
Pete
I have 1990 Chevy Lumina with 115000 miles in fair condition. Fair means scratches (some pretty big), broken side mirror, interior is not in a good shape too. It drives fine,no known mechanical problems (everything that was supposed to get fixed - fixed, even aircond. is working. My question is - is it worth to even attempt to trade in this car? I'm saying will I get at least something or nothing. And in general if you have such a car does it make any sense to trade in? I know its better to try to sell privatly, but if you don't want to bother, will you be able to get at least something? $100 or $200? Or dealer in those cases don't take this car in any situations.
Thanks,
Dmitry
If the car is a looker, it gets a $1000 price tag. Otherwise, it gets a $750 or $500 price tag. Huge "For Sale" signs in all the window.
I disclose all known faults. However, I have a sales contract which states "AS IS, WHERE IS - NO WARRANTY."
I park the car near a temp agency or near a laundromat and wait for the calls.
I don't play the "Or best offer" game. I am giving the car away. If you don't want it, I have three other lookers.
I don't spend hours listening to all the problems (i.e., paint chips, slight touch of rust, etc). I tell them if they want a new car, there are a ton of dealers in Chicago that sell them.
One time, I had six people bidding for an '80 Chevy Malibu on my front porch. It looked good but I was tired of fixing it every month. I told everyone to go get their cash and I would take the best offer at 12 NOON paid in cash.
There are a LOT of people looking for cars that run well under $1k. They don't need to be pretty. However, you cannot listen to sob stories. Make them pay cash. If they can't, wait for another person.
Hope that helps.
Based on this experience,I think anything running ( in fact mine was not even running)has some value to someone in the general public-so I'd recommend not going the trade in route but sell it privately disclosing all known faults.
I promise I'll quit being a pest after this. I talked him into selling the big truck, he doesn't need a gas hog and is already buying a diesel beater truck.
1994 Chevy K2500, 7.4L 454 (I'm not impressed, lol), 134k, auto, 4x4, deep in rubber, red/black, gray interior, its loaded up with pwr windows/locks, tow mirrors, captains chairs, am/fm/cass, a/c. Very clean truck for the year and miles. No known mechanical problems, it runs, drives, and looks like an 01.
I'm thinking $7000 in the paper, am I too light? I'd like to get as much as possible out of it. Especially in light of the situation. Putting the ad in this week.
Yes, I am keeping the Corolla, I like that car and love the gas mileage.
Now the interior is another matter...

On any given day the sedan will bring about $1000 more, but you don't have the 4 door.
If it is a nice one, being a Civic, most dealers will keep it for resale after trade. Which sometimes will help you get a little more out of it at trade in time given the right dealer.
$3000 to $4500 auction side depending on condition. Wide range due to the old age of the car, it is (or will be soon) a 7 year old car now and there is a wide variance in condition.
That is a relatively easy car for retail road around Graduation time. Get all maintenance and repair records, good detail, deep in rubber. $5500 asking and take anything close to $5000.
But like I always say: Always buy and drive what YOU like.

Yep, try the $7 figure (6,950) and see what happens .. I'm guessing you should see $5,5/$6,5 based on what the dealers were giving you on trade ..
Terry
I'm going to try in the 7's and see what happens. All the other trucks of that year/miles are advertised for $9k on up.
I'll let ya know, maybe I can squeeze a bit more out of it, not going to take less than $7k for it though, that'd be silly.
Let me know what goes ...
Terry.
Good luck .. and let me know.
Terry.
Some things do stupid money here and others (like my Corolla) you can't get a dime for, go figure, land of the moose coin.
I'm guessing (hoping) that this bad boy will bring around $7ish to some punk who wants a big bad truck to lift and have lots of power. Its summer and the A/C is ice cold......time to move this big monster.
Anyway, they did the deal for $700 and everybody is happy.
And...about 3 hours after I got back with her new used car my neighbor sold her old junker (an '88 K car with chronic oozing fluids, bad paint and a dangling headliner, busted AC, ashtray full of unfiltered Pall Mall butts, etc.) for $365.
Another neighbor had walked down to check out the Cavalier, but when she found out the junker was for sale she whipped out the cell phone and called her young nephew who needed a car NOW. He came over immediately and bought it with his first paycheck. He knew the names of all the leaking parts and even the order to take stuff apart to replace all the gaskets and some of the seals. Daddy must be a mechanic.
Thanks again,
John
First the truck:
'95 Ranger STX, X-cab, 4X4, 90K miles, Auto, drk blue, matching LEER cap, Ford bedliner, tow package (never towed), all the options, captains chairs w/pwr lumbar, rear slider, damage report: rear bumper slightly bent at corner (parking lot), otherwise very clean glossy paint, no tears/stains/rust, no smokers or dog in cab, orig owner, new Goodyears last year(courtesy Ford), solid and runs strong, spent life doing light duty (wife drives it mostly), oh yeah... Boston area.
I haven't located the Ody yet but what I'll be looking for is:
'01 Ody EX, white/silver/gray, assume w/o nav (what's that add?), 20-30K miles, obviously I'm looking for one with some warranty left, I'd only be considering cream puffs. What about an '00 everything else about the same.
What might the truck bring trade/retail, likewise for an Ody as desribed?
Thanks Man!!
2001 Toyota Tacoma DoubleCab Pre-Runner
SR5 Package

Alloy Wheels
CD/Cassette Deck
50,000 miles (all highway)
Quarter Size star on windshield right above steering wheel. 3 inch crack on windshield in lower left corner.
Deep 4 inch scratch on rear left quater panel from falling ladder.
No bedliner....small/shallow scratches in bed.
Fabric on driver seat looks worn (age appropriate though). All other fabric in like new condition. carpet is like new.
Tires have ~30,000 miles left on them.
Vehicle was rear ended requiring repair of rear quarter panels, F&R bumpber, taillights, and tailgate.
Vehicle was side swiped requiring repair of passenger side dooors and rear fender.
I appreciate everyone's input, it was very helpful.
Took both trucks to a shop and had everything checked out. No big surprises, but transfer case in Jimmy making some noise (not thrashing/banging, buuut???) and both had several maintainence needs (water pump, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.. Wasn't too worried about either needing work, cause I can get parts dirt cheap and don't mind getting dirty rebuilding my own transmision and/or transfer case.
Anyway, took the trucks back to Nucar Connection, hoping for a really good deal. They told me $6,995, as is, NO warranty, No fixes, "take my pick". I about blew my coffee out of my nose! They gave me another offer of $5,995. I laughed and left... ok, RAN!
On the way home, stopped to look at a 94 Blazer at another dealer. I didn't like it, but to make a long story short, I left with a 96 Jeep Cherokee Classic, wht. out, gray cloth in, 84K, 4.0L, auto, 4WD, all pwr, good brakes & rubber, great shape inside and out. Underside showed no signs of leaks, off road use, or scratches from "frame straightening". Needs some front end work, but nothing I can't do on some Saturday. I paid $4K "as is". I hate to say it, but it was an impulse buy, but does it sound like a deal?
Thanks in advance
I have alos noticed that the 2Dr models are just as desirable as the 4Dr, as long as you have 4WD.
All-in-all a MUCH better choise than the GC or the Blazer/Jimmy for around town errands and such.

This is a corporate lease vehicle. I am going to offer it to employees in a sealed bid auction rather than sending it back to the leasing company (and the auctions). Personally, my gut tells me the opening minimum bid should be $8,700 and it will probably go for $9,500.
Am I in the ball park or am I delusional?
Thanks for any/all advice.

Also, another potential Minivan would be an '02 MPV. I seem to find mostly LX's. I would again be looking low mileage (<20K), same colors, most popular options, and a cream puff.
Thanks again.
I almost blew out my own coffee when I read that .l.o.l.. that was funny ..!
Thats ok, they will run those dudes to the auctions this week, get about what I said - minus- the auction fee's, transport, detail .. then say, "Ya know .. we could of sold those to that one dude for his figure and saved $1,000 bucks .. (thank God I passed that economics 101 course) ..
but that was a funny story ..
Terry.
99 LX, 4WD, 80kish, auto .. probably have the high $7's, low $8's in it .. lets add a this and that, $9ish .. $9,999/$10,5 should send it packing .. see what happens.
Terry :-)
