..... El Grande' with the 3.8, now were talkin' ..

Again, we have no miles on this dude, unless you have been driving back and forth from Argentina in the last few days .. IF it's a clean one, service is all there, looks and drives like a 00, deep sneakers, no re-paint, no kisses, no tree hugs, no KFC invasions then trade side, you "should" be seeing the $4,5/$5ish zipcode ... down Retail Rd, $7,900 in the same paper and start singing goodbye at $6,5/$7,500 .. ultra clean, low milers are hard to find anywhere.!

PS. how do you like living in Salt Lake.?

                    Good luck, let me know.

'02 on left coast. blk w/ all options (as in loaded to the gills). 9000 miles. Appears clean. Carfax was a little confusing as it showed a first lease registration at ~5K miles...exec demo?
Car is @ a non-audi dealer and i presume that makes a difference...Trade-in value? fair price to pay? Whats the ~ value next month (when new book comes out)? Understand dealer has sat on car for over 60 days...

    TIA.

Thanks again for the numbers on the GS. We would've been OK with the $4000 if the Ford dealer was giving us a good deal on the F150. But considering the 04 redesign is on the horizon and it's a less desirable unit, we felt $600 over invoice was a little steep.

Now we have a fire storm going on over our friends 2 cars he's selling (98 Eldo, 44k and the 01 500SL, remember?).
We showed him what you said and he thought you were crazy, sorry, that was HIS statement. Since he has had the Caddy for so long now, we all had to go with him to the dealer and see what they said. The Caddy dealer offered him $10,000 and I thought he was going to flip, so we had to go to the Lexus dealer and they offered $9,500, things weren't going so well by then. At least he has dropped the selling price now to $14,900, now the SL 500 is a whole another story, that we will see about tomorrow.
See what you get me into, in another year or so maybe I will come and work for you. ;')

    As always Thanks.

That either the used car market is really wacky or I have my car priced too high......

Today is day 3 of the ad and I've had 2 calls and 2 people look at the car and niether seemed interested after seeing it.

2001 Toyota Corolla CE, 47k, 5-spd, a/c, am/fm/cass, tan/tan, needs tires, the car is in excellent shape. I have it in the paper for $7850, the Toyota dealer offered me $6600 for it.

Starting to look like the car is going to be hauled to Texas with me.....oh well.
  • cusafrcusafr Member Posts: 184
FWIW: I know it's difficult to sell any vehicle in a small town. When I lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and put an ad in the paper, I always got many calls. Since I moved to a smaller town, I tried to sell a couple different vehicles, that I thought I was just about giving away, and got none or one call. Where are you going in Texas? If one of the bigger cities, you may have a better chance.

And you want $1250 more for it.
That's about perfect; it's priced right. With the 5sp, it IS a bit of a niche vehicle, a lot of people really wouldn't want it regardless of price.
    Give it another 7-10 days.
    Good luck,

I have been lurking here for a while, and am now getting serious about selling my car, and I want to see what kind of numbers I can get for it. Here's the details:
    1999 Audi A6 Avant wagon
    quattro
silver with ebony (dark gray)leather interior
2.8 V6, tiptronic automatic (the only way they come)
Loaded with everything except the warm weather package, including:
slider, Bose stereo with 6 disc changer,
dual power seats, front and rear heated seats,
    front and rear side airbags,
    xenon headlights,
electrochromic (auto dimming) rearview and side mirrors.
Now for the bad part: 96,800 miles (I know, I know). I bought it from a dealer who used it to go to Ocoee and Atlanta.
There is no paintwork, but a few stone chips on the front bumper cover, and 2 small (2") scratches on the back bumper under the tail light, but otherwise looks like it has half the miles it does.
    I'm in Savannah, Georgia.
I've had a dealer offer me $12,900 going straight off his Manheim reports, so I know this is a candidate for Retail Rd, so I can get closer to what I paid for it.
I hope I have all the info here, and thank you for all your help!
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
The thing I'm running into is everyone wants an LE automatic at a CE 5-spd price. If it doesn't sell by the 15th I will do one of 2 things, either rent a car trailer for $650 and take it with me *or* cough up $850 and sell it to the Toyota dealer.
  • chile96chile96 Member Posts: 330
Hey Terry - thanks for the info on that Boxster on Ebay few days ago. Anyway, you mentioned that it was a CA298. I saw where you got that from the VIN and was wondering if that means it was delivered in CA in Feb '98 or am I reading way into VIN's? The site says in service date of 6/03(must be misprint 6/02). Also, if blue is a deduct then I'm in luck because my first choice is blue w/ light gray leather interior! For once God is smiling on me - whispering for me to drive a Boxster!!! lol

If that is true about the VIN, is it true for all vehicles and is there anything else I can tell just by looking at the VIN?

    Thanks a ton

.... There's not much difference between a CE and a LE and of course most folks want an auto, but yours IS priced right .. no matter what you try to sell, you need some patience like Mathias recommended .. if they have been looking at LE's, there going to spend an extra $1,0/$1,5+ and that can work to your advantage, that's a cash buyer market, if you know what I mean.

I know this is not the best of times, so it's easier said than done .. good luck :)

Well, time isn't something I have a lot of, however, I'm going to drive it to Anchorage this week and when I get back I have a dealer who is willing to consign it for me. I will probably do that since I'm 100 miles from Fairbanks and it makes showing the car difficult. If I can get $7500 out of it I'll be happy, that will pay off the loan.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... It's a tough time right now and getting everything to work on a "schedule" is probably about impossible, especially when you live in Moose country and the nearest 7-11 is 50 miles away .l.o.l. I could see me living there and running out of cigarettes - Yeeeow.! .. but things will work out and you will be fine.!

...... Never mind .. I read it again, now I got it.

Lots and lots of miles, so I really need a better description ... but if the Tahoe is ultra clean, no click clicks in the 4wd, service is 110%, waaay deep in rubber, no paint fade, no repaint, cold air, everything works and feels drives and looks like 50K - then trade side its worth in and around the high $5's, low $6's ... down the road a bit, take a right turn and you will be on Retail RD .. $8,9 in the paper and $7,5/$8,5 sends it off to another driveway. If it needs a this and a that, start deducting ..

The Stang, well the same deal, lots of miles and what about that convert top.? if it looks like it was on a camping trip in Baghdad thats a big expense .. so if it's nice clean one, shows like 40/50k then trade side, high $3's low $4's .. take the same right on Retail Rd and $5,9 in the paper and and $4,9/$5,5 sends it to summer camp.

                 I hope this helps ...

                         Terry.

..... Loaded up with the wheels, cold pack, ostar, Xtra bags, sports susp, solar shade, z's, yatty yatty .. with the low miles, probably in and around the ultra high $36's, low $37ish range on a trade .. not too many of these rolling around yet, I have seen them sold for as much as $45 and as little as $39,900 .. I'm just guessing, on the left coast $41ish ...?

What will they "sell" it for ..?

    Terry,

Thanks for the help. I did trade it in at a dealer for 15,500. Of course after I negotiated the purchase of my new car at invoice (Volkswagon Passas GLS 1.8T Manual, fully loaded). Maybe the dealer was smoking too much of the good stuff? Maybe I should have bought a lotto ticket that day? Whatever it was, based on your numbers it seems like I got a decent trade price without getting ripped on the new car purchase.

     Thanks again.
  • parker19parker19 Member Posts: 59
I put a deposit down on a TSX and have to wait about a month. Got a fair price, nothing spectacular but better than many other dealers.

Dealer offered me 1300 for my 95 subaru legacy, awd, auto, 120,000 miles, leaks oil which sometimes makes the car smell inside like burning oil and some other problems ... i am getting various prices on the car's worth from certain websites ... anyone have an opinion on whether this is a remotely fair deal or where i should go for the true value
  • jander111jander111 Member Posts: 31
    Terry, thanks for the reply.

Actually, it turns out the corolla is a crappy car after I looked and test drove it for my friend -- well, a friend's friend who knows nothing about cars and never drove a car before. She said it's in good shape because it looks OK from outside. Anyway, I said I won't buy it for $2,000 -- that's how bad it is.

The camry on the other hand, is in very good shape. It's LE, but I don't know if it's aftermaket leather package or not. All good maintenance, heck, the guy even suck out and refill power steering fluid, bleed the brake system regularly. Couldn't find a scratch on the leather. Everything is working and clean. Except a very minor seepage from valve cover gaskets. The guy won't go any lower than $6,000.

    ..... It's not an L or a LSI .. right.? just a Legacy wagon AWD ..?

Hey, it's a 95 and it's got a "buck twenty" in miles and it smells like Kuwait during the oil fires .. I dunno, I'm thinkin' thats about right -- or a little trip down Retail Rd, but I would go the way of the trade .. it would be worth maybe $2 Large if it was real nice.

                        Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... $6,0 ...? and it's clean, all the service, deep rubber, if so, than that sounds like a good deal ... the 4,5/$5,0 was for the Corolla -- Pay Attention, cuz' I will be asking questions later.

........ Savannah, it's a great little city, I have thought about moving there once or twice ..

Ok, I have read your description 3 times (thank you, it's a good one) .. it's a 99 A6 Avant Quattro, right color, everything but a cold pack and you don't need it around those cute Southern Belle's, you got their love and that Bose system to keep you warm ..

        $12,900 ..? he will give you $12,900 ...? Cash ..? American money ...? No hinky money orders ... ?

                  Take it ..!!

I don't know what year or month he was showing you, but whoooo cares ..? take the $$ and run like a scalded dog.!

        $10,000 would be A L L - T H E - M O N E Y .!

Asking ~$40K...i think its worth less...I'll pull the trigger @ $33.5K and not a dime more...certainly not at the end of the model year...them cars depreciate like there's no tomorrow...i have an RS6 order coming in next month and decided to pass because i dont need all that engine (4.2 is fine) and I cant plot the depreciation curve and thats risky on these non-traditional 'supercars'...i wonder what the new book in july will do to the '02s and '03s...

    thanks...

    Terry,

Thank you very much for your help with my A6 numbers. I know this is a tough car to hit, especially with all the miles, but I was hoping you could give me a rough number to retail the car.
Savannah is a strange market since there are lots of people who like high end cars, but don't have the budget to buy something new and/or low mileage. This leads to a frighteningly large demand for older Bimmers, Benzes, Jags etc, which I think may help me in this situation.
Can you help me with a number to retail this car please?
    Thank you!
  • parker19parker19 Member Posts: 59
Thanks for the reply about the 1995 legacy with 120k and leaking oil.

It's a L version, would that make a difference. Kelly has it valued at 2100 for the low end of dealer trade in value. How close to that should one expect for their trade in?

Am I better off going to carmax or trying to negotiate a better price and would you say I am better off walking to try to get a better price.

    Thanks again for your help.
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
i think what Terry was saying is you shouldn't see much better than the $12,9 period... trade-in or selling it yourself, in his humble opinion. even if you see $13,5 selling it yourself, I doubt it would be worth the effort/time, etc... Plus if you are buying a new car while trading, there may be a tax advantage there.

'take the money and run' and forget about it....
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    With a zillion miles...

If you can get $12,900 from a dealer, you are getting $3K over the car's wholesale value. I think you have a $9500 piece there myself.

One that I would say to ask $12,500 for and expect to GET $11,500-12K for.

TAKE THAT STUPID HIGH FIGURE AND RUN LIKE THE WIND! :)
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Umm..

$33,500? That's about $4K less than an Audi dealer would pay for that car at auction in CA.

Wholesale, like Terry said is $36800-37500 or so, maybe a tiny bit more in CA... I'd say if you can get it for $40K, it's a quite reasonable price.

$33,500? I'm in the market for a driver. Get it for that and I'll throw you a $3K profit.. and still be able to wholesale it for a profit if I don't like it. See what I mean?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Car sounds like "a dozen" to me...

Might get $2500 for it to retail it, ask $2900..etc.. the usual. I'd probably "ACV" it at $1200.

I'm not an expert but here in Texas I saw some 2001 Civic LX with low miles listed for the price you negotiated.

I guess Civics are in high demand in your part of the country. In Texas trucks and suburbans rule the road. (Much to my dislike!)
