...... Ok, we have a 98 Limited with 90k .. based on what you are telling me, it's super clean with a TRD aftermarket .. any other time I would say you got nothing, but being a "Left Coaster" there is a big market for stuff like this and the miles Won't shy most away ..

Trade side, in and around the $8's .. down Retail Rd, $11,9 in the LA paper and $10,5/$11,5 sends it off to Laguna Beach.

....... Sooo, we have a 02 with an auto (big help), black on black, good color for the area, 28k, bad miles for the area ..

If it looks, smells, feels, drives new, no swirls in the paint, no road rage in the seats, deep rubber and all the service, then trade side you should be seeing the mid to high $14's .. "maybe $15" if it's puuuurfect and needs -0- .. $16,5/$16,9 should be all of it on a private sale ..

                        Terry.

    ... A base ..huh. .?

Well we got the 4x4, we have the auto, (thank God) and we are low in the miles dept .. if the bed is clean, nice big round things in the fenders .. trade side, in and around the low to mid $14's.

                          Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... No, I don't feel that the miles were high, it's just that a 00 with 19/25K low miles commands that kind of high price ..

Even a Yota that "should" see 150k has a point of value based on the miles ~ as does Bimmers, Benz's, Buicks, Eddie Bauers, etc, etc.com

    ...... Is this a P66 or a P67 model ...?

Yeeeow, 80k+ no help there .. the 24V V6 is the only saviour here .. better be deep in rubber, better have the service sitting at 110%, better make sure that there isn't any terrorists hiding in the back seats, better make sure of no accidents .. in and around that $2,5ish zipcode on a trade ..

                      Terry ;-)

I bought the 2000 Camry for $12,200. Not a huge discount but $800 is $800. I'm happy with the deal. Took the car home Friday. I like it more than I remember when I test drove it. I'm very pleased with it. It's super clean. I ran a CARFAX on it and it's only been on the road since the end of July 2000 so it's not even a full 3 years old yet. It's a one owner lease which was reposessed (or so the report says).

Thanks for everyone's advice on my purchase. I appreciate it.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Your absolutely right .. $800 is $800, lot's of money .. enjoy yours, there great vehicles and should last you a loooong time ..

    ...... Did I read that right ...? $13,700 ..? that's a GREAT price .. actually it's such a great price that I would have it checked out close - real close ..!

The miles are low for the year, leather, right color anywhere, seems to have most of the stuff .. if it checks out, grab it, great price.!

                           Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Wow, you musta just bought that dude .. nice vehicles.

If it's still new, then you would be seeing the $18's, probably the mid $18's.

    ..... Farmington Hills .? I just dropped 5 Suburban LT's up there ..

               Anyway ...... auto, stick ... 4 cyl, V-12 ...........?

My crystal ball is still at the dry cleaners .................................................info babe, Info ................................................................. :-(

....... $8,300 ..? on the private ..? First, have it checked out, that's super cheap, if all is well, grab it - great price.!!!

The dealer has maybe $8,5/$9,0 in that pup .. a fair price for both would be "around" $11ish .. the only bad thing about Acura's are they have a tendency to start breakin' down when they start hitting 150/170k .. l.o.l..

The Max is still a good deal .. Remember - always buy and drive what YOU like ..!

    Terry et al -

Looking to put some cash in my pocket. I am trading an 02 Accord EX V6, loaded, 19k miles. Has a spoiler and aftermarket tinted windows. Exterior is white with tan leather interior. I purchased as a certified used from Honda, so it has a 48k bumper to bumper and 100k powertrain warranty.

Current offer from the Ford dealer is $7k and their 02 SES for my Accord. The SES has leather, moonroof, bucket seats, Vulcan (do I really want this one?) engine, 16k miles. It is a certified car and is maroon/red. Is that a fair price or should I be looking for more?

I am a bit aprehensive on all the 02 SES's cuz 99% of them are rentals. Should I be concerned with that? What I really want is a 00 or 01 SEL with low miles, but cannot find one with leather AND moonroof.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Sorry Terry... forgot to mention both cars are in perfect condition. Also, I am located in Wisconsin (Milwaukee Area)

    Thanks again....

    Terry,
How are ya? Still going to that adult ADD support group?
Anyway, the Passat is a 1.8T with Tiptronic, I already sent him to his room.

That is a low-pressure turbo-charged four-cylinder engine with 5 valves per cylinder mated to an automatic transmission with a manual-shift mode.

There will be a quiz next Wednesday.

I said that it was a 5-Speed Tiptronic Auto in the original post and in post# 12817, I added that it was a 1.8T. I guess that you probably missed them. :-)

... Hey Jeff .. sounds like a great deal and very fair for both .. you want the 3.0 Dura tek 24V - V6, great motor, not the FFV engine .. they are abundant, plus the SES you are looking at has all the stuff, leather, slider, wheels, big sound, power seats, etc ... anytime you have some doubt, just pull a Carfax and see whats there .. but the deal itself, is a good and fair one ...

Good luck and let me know..

                         Terry.
  • jtp0414jtp0414 Member Posts: 4
Can I get the SES with a 24v Duratec? I thought the Vulcan (FFV) was the only option?

.... Hows that Avalon working out .?

Not a bad little vehicle, almost -0- miles, doesn't have all the Xtra stuff, but you make it sound kinda nice and clean with new sneakers .. trade side, in and around $2,5ish ... easy vehicle to sell on Retail Rd, a nice detail, a great ad for $4,5 and some nice person from Case, CSU or even a Ford worker would pick that puppy up for $3,900 ...

                         Terry.

.... Low in the miles dept .. so if it's nice, no dents or dings from the riots you are having .. then trade side, high $8's, low $9's .... down the path, then turn left, that's Retail Rd .. great Ad for $11,900 and and $10,5/$11,5 should get a new owner .. then you will have enough $$ to buy one of those Burbs I just sent up there .. :-)

She was offered $2800 trade-in for 98 Escort Friday night at local dealer on either Buick Century or Chrysler Sebring. She can get Buick at GM employee price deal because of a close relative, but she likes the Sebring better. Will tell her about retail, but doubt she will want the hassle. So once again, you were right on with estimate of $2,5ish.

I love the Avalon (2002 with 10k then) I bought in February. Excellent so far and easy to drive. Took it on a couple of trips and was not tired or cramped. One of the few cars that I actually "fit" in (6'6" 265lbs.) Thanks again.

    Tom
  • dkuhajdadkuhajda Member Posts: 487
Lets say the dealer will not budge on the $2800 trade in. Surely you or she knows someone with a kid heading for college or just getting a drivers license. That car could easily be sold without an add in the paper by just asking people you know for $3200, if it is cleaned up it should be an easy sell. $400 more is $400 more than the dealer was offering. Heck for $3200 I would ask around here and drive someone for the Gas money and lunch to Cleveland, about 3.5 hours away, so they could buy the car.

Thanks lot Terry. I don't plan on selling the Passat anytime soon. I want to keep it forever. I just wanted to see where i was.
  • spatulamanspatulaman Member Posts: 157
Okay...so I drove an '02 BMW M3...it was nice, but it didn't bring me $40k worth of joy...that's a lot of joy, ya know? Anyrate...so now I'm looking at '01 and '02 M Coupes...you know the Z3 coupe/hatchback thing that looks like a shoe...they have the same engine as the new M3, but cost waaaay less, plus its a lighter chassis. What are they fetching at the block with low-ish mileage (8-10k per year), and a slider (only option besides CD)?
  • spatulamanspatulaman Member Posts: 157
My mother is lookin for an Avalon...I think I've found the perfect one, color, options, location, everything. Granted, its a million miler, but that only sweetens the deal since she's only going to put millions more on it with her 30 mile/day commute, and years from now, once the mileage gets into the stratosphere (180k or so) an extra 30k won't make much difference in value...am I wrong?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item- =2420444415&category=6444

So what's a fair deal, and what's a scandalously good deal?
  • dt3123dt3123 Member Posts: 3
    Terry,
Not sure about whether it's a P66 or P67. Will try to find out if it makes a difference. In any case, thanks for the info. $2,500 sounds a lot better than the $1,300 I was told.
  • tbonertboner Member Posts: 402
I'm starting to shop for a new car and hope you can help me with determining the value of my 1998 Ford Contour SE w/V6 engine (both trade-in & retail value). It has:
    Automatic transmission
    Air conditioning
    Power windows/locks/mirrors
    Cruise control
    ABS
    Mileage = 87,894
Color = Green (exterior) Tan (interior)

I'm located in Northern NJ/Metro NYC if that makes a difference. Let me know if there's any other info you need.

Thank you in advance for your help.

What Terry means by P66 or P67 are basically which style. This is encoded in your VIN, specifically digits 5-7 Peep Here http://www.contour.org/FAQ/FAQ.php?s=articles&display=1

The year 1998 for the Contour saw a change in trim levels, where the SE was "decontented" in the middle of the model year. The P67 is prior to the "decontenting" In the link I presented, you can see reference to an unofficial 98.5 So if you have an SE with the P66 VIN digits, you have the decontented 98.5.

For Contours, as far as content (creature features) older is better. Ford cut costs as the model ran and did not meet sales targets.

But alas, regardless of the VIN numbers, the resale is pretty bad for these cars. So I hope you at least enjoyed the driving experience.

.... Looks nice, right color, 60k.? no fear, and it's a XLS (all the right stuff) .. I'm guessing they have "around" $15ish in it ..

Unlike some of the domestics they don't tube when the miles are higher than normal ... $12,2 was the last bid and it hasn't hit the reserve, I feel $16,5 "might" be the buy price, considering they can take it to the DFW auction and probably see $16,0 .. that's if it's clean, no kisses, deep sneakers, yatty yatty yatty .. the ones with around 20k are doing "around" $20/$21,0 .. :)

                         Terry.

.... 01 Z3 "shoes" with 6/9/15k are doing in and around the $23/$24ish zipcode depending on the color and such .. $27ish should get one bought ..

  • spatulamanspatulaman Member Posts: 157
You sure you're thinkin M Coupe...not the Z3 coupe...the M is special ya know...it has the big "waffle stomper" engine in it. Either M Coupes are going really cheap at the auctions, and I need somebody to pick me one up at auction...or you're thinkin plain old Z3 Coupe. People are asking $40k for 01-02 M Coupes, and actually getting the $35k area...private party accourse.

Thanks for the info on the Avalon. I'll see if she'll go for it.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Your talkin' about a "M" model .. there doing "around" that $29/$30 figure in a 01, and miles in the 4/7kish region, few and far between .. your right they should be bought for around that $35/$36ish figure, if they are perfect and glow in the dark .. sorry, can't answer questions and watch the highlights of the Buick Open at the same time .. ;-)

    Bill and Terry,

Since I'm still casually looking to get out of my Audi A6 Avant, I cam across this, and wanted to see where you hit it:

1998 Volvo V70 T5 (with the 236 HP HPT engine)
    Auto
    Black over Charcoal leather
    slider
    3rd seat
    Volvo spoiler
These come pretty well loaded, but it also has:
    dual power memory seats
    dual auto climate
    Am/Fm/cassette/CD
it has had the 60K service done, include new t-belt, plugs, wires, motor mounts etc.
no scratches, beautiful condition, no kids or smoke

It has 66,000 miles in Savannah, GA.
It is a private party sale, and it's been in the Auto Trader for upwards of 6 weeks at $17,950, but it has made its way into the Savannah paper for $16,750, but I still think he's a little high.

What do you see this going for? Thanks!

...on the 97 528i. I'm not sure if the sport pkg conversion is authentic or not. It just appears to have sport springs coupled with the 18 in Lorimer's. The veh is a local trade in being sold at a Mazda/VW/Volvo dealership; it's not a CPO. Some minor chips near the front but they have recieved the touch up paint treatment...Is 18k still the number...?

    56k miles

    zero problems
all records, all TSB's, and recalls
New Michelin Symmetry's in past 6 months
    no add-ons

Still haven't decided via trade or to sell via paper autotrader, etc. Know what I should do, but the hassle factor(how much $$ difference) . . .

Great forum , always one of the highest actitity levels due to your input -- Thanks!!

    Hey Terry,
what happened to Tiger? Guess he has to let someone else win a Buick tourny every now and tehn. My brother is looking for a late 90's maxima to drive around town for work and put some miles on... Found a 1999 Maxima SE, its black on black leather. 54,000 miles, loaded Bose, moonroof, automatic, etc... (no bun warmers). interior is clean and looks good, exterior has the usual few rock chips up front, but looks good overall, lets say it hasn't seen the inside of a body shop... tires are 50/50. In East Tennesse region... What are these babies pushing thru the auctions at?

If he would of spoke up a month or two ago, I would of sold him the one I got rid of!

    thanks,
    Brent

#1 '98 V/S70s can be a tad problematic.. look it over carefully, watch for electrical issues. Otherwise, very durable, safe and cheap to maintain (Except T5 tires.......)

    $16,750? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, so nice to see the public still has a sense of Humor.

It MIGHT be worth $11/11,500 wholesale... $14K would beat it to total death I think.. really if it were yours I'd say to expect $13K or maybe a tad over that.

But then some silly dealer did offer you doofus money for your Audi so maybe there's something in the water in Savannah...
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
I think $18K kills it meself...

Doesnt sound like a real sport pack to me, sounds like a, umm... well I can't say that word so, umm...

It sounds like a modified honda school fo thought 5er
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Ooh!

Ody! Nice Van. What color combo and where do you live? Leather?

Paintwork? Has it ever been dropped off of a cliff before?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    OK.

    Rule number 1:

TAKE THOSE EXPENSIVE WHEELS OFF AND SELL THEM ON EBAY!

They don't add a penny to the car's value. Period.

I'm pegging this car in the $17,500-18K range. With or Without the pimp daddy rims.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
That car's worth about 10 G's wholesale. So if it were yours I would say to ask $12,750 and cut it loose for no less than $11,800 or so.
  • tylerapextylerapex Member Posts: 14
Just wondering what you would think I could get on trade-in or from somewhere like Car Max for a 2000 Ford Windstar SE with 57K miles? It has a few minor dings and scratches on the outside. Also, just found out that the fuel pump needs to be replaced because the fuel gauge stopped working (dealer wants $500 for that).

    Thanks!
  • vikdvikd Member Posts: 187
...I know what you're getting at... It actually looks like it was altered at the original dealer; you know, one of those veh that sits on the showroom floor with the $3.5k wheel/tire combo added to draw you to it...? The Lorimer wheels when new are, I think, a tad out of the price range of the typical sport compact mod...

    Thanks again...

Thanks for the info TB. Unfortunately, my Contour is one of those "decontented" models which makes me a bit discontented.
When I finally sell or trade it in, I'll let you know what price I get.
