Coming to you from San Francisco. Was looking at a 96 blue ls 400 with most options (gold package, Nak audio, moonroof, memory seats, 6 disc, useless old cell phone, etc.) Car also has an aftermarket audiovox lcd movie screen mounted to the top of the rear roof and a vcr and nintendo in the trunk. Car has 111,000 miles. Dealer is asking 12K because he has the steering completely redone.
What would be a fair price for this car at auction?
Thanks a bunch!
Z
One owner, 52K miles
Sharp looking black car with rear wing
Every option, including sunroof and 10 disc CD
New tires and rear brakes
I live in Western Illinois... these cars are pretty rare around here. What do you think?
1. It has a 5 speed manual transmission
2. It is a Ford Contour.
#1 limits the market to about 15% of the buying public.
#2 is there are tons of Contour's on the market. The SVT is just an option package, it is not really that rare of a car and it does not have a big following as a sporty sedan.
$7000-$7500 retail if the paint and tires are A1 good. $4500 to $5500-ish on trade is about all of it.
It's an "option package" over a base Contour the same way the Cobra is an "option package" over a base Mustang. The vehicles share a name and little else.
Kinda like the old SHO Taurus.
Could you please let me know the trade-in and private party value of the following Honda CRV? I'm planning to buy a 2003 CRV in Cincinnati, Ohio.
2000 CRV LX - Red
Air
Power Steering, Windows, Door Lock
Tilt Wheel
Cruise
AM/FM Radio/Cassette
Dual Front Airbags
Roof Rack
Remote Keyless Entry
100,000 miles - mostly freeway
Very good condition - new tires, brakes, 90,000 service
A few little dings on the hood and side panels, but otherwise sound!
Love the car but want to upgrade and update!
Thanks,
Sue
Still, would like Terry's opinion on the value of SVT vs regular Contours. Some SVT fans in a club I belong to think their cars are worth $10-15,000.
If it's a nice one, cleeean, looks, feels, drives like a 00, no re-paints, no my cigarette blew out of my hand and set the rear seats on fire, no wars with Wal-Mart .. then trade side, in and around the mid to high $5's - low low $6's if it's a "super clean", glows in the dark and needs -0- ..
Down Retail Rd, a great detail, a super nice 5 liner ad in the biggest paper in your area, $8,9 "asking" and $7,5/$8,5 get's a new shifter ..
Good luck ...

BTW - The car's very nice and I've got a standing offer of $8600 for it, but I like this car and I'm not a very motivated seller... :-)
Tomcat... I don't think they're worth $10 -$15K, but I see do see people asking that. Gotta wonder if they ever sell.
Terry.
Anyone can ask anything they want for anything .. it's the "getting part" thats the tuff part .. 00 SVT's with 25k/30k are worth "around" the mid $9's on trade .. If I was selling one, $12,9 would be the asking price and $11,9/$12,5 would be "Down the road Motors", thats a tuff market in that particular price range, Ton's of competition .. ask $14/$15,0 for one, then you just better go to Home Depot and grab 300lbs of potting soil and make a planter out of it .. will never see it.
I hope this helps ...

.. >> I am currently looking at buying a used 2002 Ford Explorer with 17,000 miles from a dealer. He bought the Explorer at an auction. His price is $21,700. Edmunds dealer retail price is about $21,000, Edmunds private party price is $18,700. What is a reasonable price offer to this dealer? << ..
Ok, that's nice ..........
Is it a 2wd ..............?
4wd .......?
XLT .........?
Eddie Bauer ...............?
Does it have little wings and fly's ......?
Color .......................................... ??
Area .........???????
I N F O ........
Terry.
V6 ....?
4 banger ...... ?
Terry.
Actually, that is selling it myself.... but like I said, I'm not very motivated and at this time $8600 doesn't fall into the "offer I can't refuse" category.
Terry.
It's a 01 base, we got 16k, so the miles are nice and low - what can I say here, as long as it's not some crazy color and it's clean, then trade side you might be seeing the high $9's, low $10's .. down Retail Rd, $12,5 in the paper and hope you can see $11,5/$11,9 ...
Thanks for stopping by ..
Terry.
Terry or Bill,
BMW Z3 3.0i
Silver with red leather.
38K miles
New rear tires. (Will need to replace front in about 5K miles or so)
Premium package, premium sound and cold weather package. (HK audio, heated/power seats, power roof, heated mirror, wood dash trim, on board computer, etc)
Manual.
Another one same as above except 39K miles with steptronic (did I spell it right? )
Both in good to excellet condition. (One was in an accident but fixed by the BMWCCA local chapter recommanded body shop and the job was done right, while the other one has a slight paint chip thanks to the I-95 and it's road conditin + big trucks.)
All scheduled services done (and why not when it's free and we get to drive a different loaner each time. :-))
Although, the step is $1000+ option. I don't think the manual/steptronic will make any differnece in prices?
What would be the trade-in/private party sale price? Your opinion please.
oh, and in Richmond, VA area but can travel to Philly, PA if it makes any difference. (Recently moved to VA but hasn't registered to VA yet)
Ended up quite happy with the deal considering I didn't have the money or time to deal with fixing the 97 or trying to sell it myself.
Ended up with a newer vehicle with 2yrs/26k on the factory warrenty.
Thanks
Disclaimer: I don't know the person selling the car, and have no interest in it. FYI only.

Automatic or five speed?
Hope it's a 4WD because the 2WD models are much tougher to sell.
What would be a reasonable amount to expect for a 1996 Acura 3.5RL with 148,000 miles? This is the base model (w/o Premium package). Other than having a 6-disc CD changer, everything else is pretty standard stuff.
I have scratches in both the front and rear bumpers. I think it'll take about $300-500 to fix them.
My zipcode is 07310, if you need it. That's Jersey City, New Jersey.
Thanks for your help,
Peter
It's an automatic, 4WD.

I have been selling a lot of cars lately. Unloaded the 2001 Grand Prix, the 1996 Grand Caravan and the 1998 Infiniti is on deck and ready to go next week.
Now to the dogs.
I have three 1999 Ford Taurus SE that I have to dispose of in the coming weeks. The vehicles are all fairly clean and well kept. The exteriors are red or dark blue. None of them have any major body damage. There are a ding or two on the doors.
They have the cruise, power seats but not the sports package. The tires are in good condition.
Believe it or not, all three salesmen want to purchase the vehicles from the company. Generally, in this case, I charge them wholesale Black Book (+/-) mileage adjustment per the black book.
These cars are located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
What are these cars going for at auction and retail?
Thanks for your help.
I have a question not about a cars value, but if the following is really the way the system works. A buddy of mine was looking at a 2001 Lincoln LS right off lease. It had low mileage and my buddy was interested. He ran it through Edmunds and got a market price of $19.5... The dealership had it priced at $25,000. When he questioned the salesman he was told that since it was off-lease the dealership had to price it from the residual value of the lease. The salesman also said that if it didn't readily sell, they would send it back to Ford leasing who would then auction it to someone. My buddy was surprised that Ford wouldn't just adjust the price to the market immediately and allow the dealership to sell the car, without the added expense of shipping the car from the dealership to Ford leasing and then the expense of bringing the car to auction.
It didn't make much sense to me either, but I was wondering if this is really what happens if a leasing company initially overestimates how much a car will be worth at the end of the lease. This must happen all the time!

Edmunds TMV gives only $69 more for SE model over same-equipped S model. Can you hazard a guess as to how come?
Thanks!
