"I think" invoice is around $32,0 so there not trying to hurt you, maybe you can get $22,5 out of them on the trade side ...
Terry.
I COULD retail the car but I am not a car dealer and I don't want to be running out all hours of the evening selling it on MY time.
I will probably offer it to all the employees and see if I have a nibble ...
Caledonia, right ..?(been there) - it will do better figures there then Chi Town, so they know what they are saying ...

Terry.
Have the most problem selling the lease cars 3 year old cars with 50-60k miles.
I let you know how we do.
The last two lease cars that went back to the leasing company went to Caledonia. BTW, those drivers do not miss a scratch on a vehicle that they pick up.
A 10 year old car with almost 140K miles, has some mechanical issues that need repaired, also has some dents (not the least is a big one (in the buyers eyes) in the fender). It is not even a one owner.
Unless you plan on fixing the leaks (big problem), maybe $1500 at retail.
Face it, even with a good fender, no leaks, maybe $3500 on the high retail side on a good day. Would be a good starting point, $3500-$3900ish if the leaks were fixed and send it packing at $2500-$3000ish.
Similar Camry's around me have an ASKING price of between $2300 and $3900 with the higher amount at a Toyota dealer that offers a minimal warranty.
9k is what the dealer offered on a GM family deal on a new Trailblazer................
Uncle not happy tho. But I warned him about buying another Exploder 2wd. (Hes had good luck with 4 of them.)............geo
Thanks once again.
Terry.
Miles aren't going to help this one, tall tall tall, and of course we have the fake interior which is always a crowd pleaser .. sounds nice and clean though, if the service is all there, deep sneakers, trade side in and around the $15's depending on the dealer .. down Retail Rd ~ a super detail, a super ad, $18,9 "asking" and $17,5/$18,5 sends it off to DC ..
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
Cheap money, better have it checked out real close, it's not a biggie that it's a rental, but the asking price should get that little "radar" going .. spend the $$ and take it to a Nissan dealer, have the Vin# ran there and let them eyeball it ..
Terry.
Since I seem to be the only one in my family not getting a new car, my grandparents have asked me to find some numbers for them for their car. They have it on a lease which is coming due in the next few months, and they want to buy it off lease.
The car is a 2000 Cadillac Catera base (NOT sport), champagne beige over tan leather,
power driver and passenger seats, alarm,
AM/FM/cassette/CD changer, OnStar,
slider,
27000 miles
No snow, salt, or cold weather,
No paint work or scratches, as it has only ever been driven by my 82 year old grandparents.
They're in Delray Beach, Fla, between West Palm and Ft. Lauderdale.
I don't know what the buyout number is at lease end.
Thanks for your help as always.
Heck, if it was a GM 4dr 4wd waaaay up here in snow country NY he could "curb it" and make $$$$
selling it up here !.............geo
Thanks again !
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Presenting a good car vs a car with problems is a hands-down absolute to get anywhere near what you want.
Is it worth my time to change the oil and fix a loud muffler prior to beginning any negotiations w. a dealer as to it's trade in value?
At the most, I'd top of the fluids, change the oil and see if the mechanic can do anything cheap/easy about the muffler. But will this even matter to a dealer?
Yeah, selling my A4 to the slightly more upscale DCers -- perfect idea!
Thanks again.
Some kid will THROW major $$$ at you !
Thanks
The deal did not work out. Seller is not willing to come down (not for now at least).
So I located another Honda. Detail are listed below. Please advise when you have time.

What is your opinion?
Thanks a lot in advance.

These still do well in the market, if it's Clean, seats look hovered in, no love bug terrorist attacks, no practice runs at Burdines, looks Sharp .. then trade side, in and around that $11ish figure ~ a little trip down Retail Rd in Delray, $14,9 in the paper and $13,9/$14,5 sends it off to Shooters ...

2000 Olds Alero GLS 4-Door 39,000 miles
all power / every option
leather
sunroof
chrome wheels
sport suspension
Very clean. Paint has some spotting and minor dings, but still shines. The engine seems to be running a little rough, but still performs well. Ready for new brakes and tires. Is it worth doing the brakes and tires before trying to sell?
Thanks,
Frank
You will either pay for them by getting the work done BEFORE you sell the car OR you will pay for the repairs when the buyer discounts the price that they are willing to pay.
I can't speak for anyone but myself BUT when I see a car on the lot for sale with balding tires and poor breaks, my first question is "What other repairs and maintenance did this clown defer?"
Just my 0.02 worth.
NEVER try to sell a vehicle that needs obvious service items - easy way to lose BIG money.
- Kansas City area
- 26,000 miles
- Silver
- AT, CC, PW, PL, stereo upgrade. No alloys, power seats, leather or moonroof.
- Interior/exterior good condition, no dings, all maintenance current.
I have seen similar vehicles listed in dealership ads at around $15,000 but don't feel that is a realistic figure. I am thinking that I should be able to get around $13,000. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks in advance.
-It has about 46,000 miles on it. It's
- some minor chips in the paint -- caused by other car's doors!
--the carpet is worn near the pedals
- has been hit twice (not serious damage under $1500) fixed and you can't tell.
- Maintence current
- spoiler
- dark green
- CD Player
- No power anything
- Charlotte NC Area
I am wondering what I can expect on a trade in on this car?
18,000 mile
all power

moonroof
bose sound w/cd changer
tow packgae
privacy glass

What would acceptable dealer bid for trade be?
Thanks
I desperately need a car this week, and I need advice on how much I should pay for a particular car that I found on ebay, and I will really appreciate your advice. Here is the information:
Year: 2001
Model: Volkswagen passat 4 Door GLS V6 Sedan
Color: Silver
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Mileage: 22,000
Condition: Average
Carfax.com shows that everything is fine, and Edmunds.com says that for the average VW sold by a private party, I should spend no more than $15,000. My question is, on ebay, no one bid higher than $6200, does this mean there may be a problem with the car, or is it just a coincidence. And the owner says his reserve is $18,000!
I plan to see this car soon, and my intent so far is to pay no more than $15,000. Question is, do you guys think that even $15,000 is too much, and I should pay much less? Based on the bids on ebay, I kind of get that feeling. I appreciate any other help you can give.
pandabearz@hotmail.com
I believe that the buyer is probably way upside down on the vehicle and looking for an E-Bay sucker ....
Actually, the owner didn't post his reserve price, I contacted him and asked. Meanwhile the bid on ebay is still the same at about $6200. I haven't bid on the car.
Options -- new body style .... ???? ---- It's an 01 right ..? with 22k right ..? GLS V6 right ..? if it's an auto and clean, it's worth $13,5/$14,0 wholesale, dealer money, auction, trade, etc .. *Edmunds.com says that for the average VW sold by a private party, I should spend no more than $15,000* ..
Can't say .. Need info ...!
Terry.
SE, V6, 59kish, slider, ho-hum color .. if it's deep in rubber, looks and drives like 20k, no weird experiments on the interior, no bump and runs on the exterior .. trade side, in and around the $13's depending on the dealer .. have you tried taking a bus once on a while ..?
Terry.
Thanks for the info on my grandparent's Catera. As soon as I forwarded them your numbers, they came back with more (or should I say correct?) info. The car is a 2001 instead of a 2000. I'm thinking that may make about $1000 or so difference, but I'm always curious as to the expert's opinion. To save you from looking back to the old post (#14325), here's the info again:
2001 Cadillac Catera base (not sport)
champagne beige over tan leather
dual power seats, alarm
AM/FM/Cassette/CD changer
no bose, no chrome
slider
27,000 miles
no scratches, paintwork or otherwise, only ever driven by my 82 year old grandparents
no salt, snow or cold since it has lived its entire life in South Florida (Delray).
It's a lease ending in the next few months. The buyout price is $18,287, which seems to be silly money to me, and even to my grandmother who knows less than nothing about cars... But they do want to buy the car at lease end since they like it and can't stand to look at a new CTS, which is the only thing they would replace it with now that Olds is going away.
As always, thanks for the advice...
Ok, now it's a 01 .. same stuff I would assume, miles are still kinda low and it's for sure under the 4yr/50k warranty .. trade side/auction, in and around the tall tall $12's, *maybe, could see the low $13's .. down the beach on Retail Rd, $17,900 would be a "fair" asking price and $16,5/$17,5 would keep it out of the way of any hurricanes ... so it's close, kinda .. :0
I have a feelin' that GMAC will negotiate the "pay-off", they know what they are doing right now at the auctions .. they need to get with a Reg Mgr ( NOT the dealer ..!) from GMAC and see what they will do, (not the nice folks that answer the phones, they are not decision makers) .. they might drop it to $17, maybe more, maybe less - it will all depend on Their negotiation skills, they need to be patient and just do it in a nice, calm way ..
Terry.
Terry.
Look like you have a little time available today to help us out.
Re-posting an earlier question for your kind attention.
