2000 4Runner - black, 40,700 miles
4WD; loaded w/o leather; sunroof; towing/hitch connection; grill guard
In great shape - no wrecks, good paint, tires good, recently received a 30,000 service, interior really good
Rarely driven, secondary vehicle
Just kidding. My wife has had enough of my (In remission) habit of bring home aging orphan cars that mostly leaked in the garage. She is actually more tolerant of looking at new cars, knowing that I'm usually too cheap (or spastic) to go through with a deal.
She will actually be happy when I get the tC. Probably not by the car, but because I will sell both my other cars, and have some $$ left over to put into the new car she wants later in the year.

Terry: repost from last week, got lost in the shuffle. If you could give me an estimate on it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
'97 Impreza Outback Sport wagon
67,000 miles, up to date on maintenance (dealer serviced updates at 29k, 45k, 60k miles - I bought it used at 29k)
dark green paint, minor scratches (typical inevitable minor parking lot dings), hood repainted 2 years ago (was keyed) - done at dealer's body shop so you can't even tell anything happened to it
Still looks and rides excellently.
new brakes (front discs, pads + rotors replaced, new rear shoes + drums resurfaced) at ~60k miles (about 7-8 months ago)
2.2l, automatic transmission, AWD
alloy wheels, A/C, dual front air bags, power windows, roof rack, fog lights, keyless entry, aftermarket CD/mp3 player
clean condition, not perfect but not abused, no accidents
I live in Illinois (near chicago) and purchased her in Michigan, so she has seen her fair share of weather (fortunately not hail) but no real damage and no surface rust.
She still runs excellently, but I am looking to purchase a new car and do not have need of a second vehicle.
Any help with fair market trade-in values would be appreciated so I know what to expect from the local dealers.
==== Great description - Thanks ..
You have been on top of all the service, miles are low for the year, we have that no-sale green thing going on with a makeover, auto and all the power stuff and you live on the North Coast .. if the tires are deep and it doesn't have that "I got painted with a paint brush look" ..then trade side, in and around the $4's, probably the mid to high $4's depending on the dealer ......
Good luck and let me know ..
Terry.
I'm going down this AM to finalize papers and see if they want to blow the book on my Miata. COuld be fun: trade in both cars, and they would have to give me a new one plus a check.

It's super clean. No dents or dings, no scratches. Still smells new.
I would like to see how it will do at trade in and retail road.
It's in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
Anyone want a 2001 red Miata, let me know. Think I'll put it in the paper for 12,500 or 11,900 to get some action.

No, not really. The authorities frown on trunk-mounted car seats. :-)

Curious what a good private party price would be as a buyer.
I'm considering a Volvo for the first time. The 2001 S60 I'm looking at is being offered at $13,375 with 60K miles on it. That's a bit heavy on the mileage front, hence the discounted price. Does that sound like a good deal? Its in good shape in all other ways and I'd be buying it thru a dealer. I believe it is a lease return. I'm thinking (more like hoping) that I can take this car to 200K miles as I don't plan on buying another new car for some time. Any and all thoughts would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

1989 Volvo 740 non-turbo, 5 speed.
Tan over black leather.
5k on new Bridgestones.
Paint is in as good a condition as one could expect from an '89, ditto the leather (actually the leather is remarkably well-preserved, with no rips and minimal wear along the bottom bolster.) It's got the typical '80s European car maladies of a sagging headliner (I ripped out the fabric, contenplating attempting a fix myself on this one,) cracked dash (show me a 740 without this) and busted A/C (a leak in the line, not the compressor. Thanks for small favors.)
139,000 miles, all records since new. I'm thinkin' this would be a good high schooler's "learn to drive a stick before getting into dad's Bimmer" car or a commuting beater. I'm thinking of having Mrs. Lance drive it down to campus with a For Sale sign in it...the question is, what would be an equitable number to put on the sign?
Obviously I'd give it a good spit 'n' shine.
Thanks...

Also, what's your personal opinion on trading a 2004 Accord EX-L auto for the above? Is it worth it?
I know exactly how you both feel. I have bought and sold a dozen cars in the last two years. Presently I have a 2004 Honda Accord EX-6CYL. with only 6K miles and I'm thinking about selling it and getting a 2005 Subaru Impreza. I miss the stick shift type driving and have a few other reasons (MY wife calls excuses-as She just does not understand). I'm sure both of you CCBers understand.
Anyway, please add my name to the list and let me know where the next meeting is being held.
Jim
ours is neither an exclusive nor a small club; welcome. I feel your pain. I do think, however, that you're doomed if you think you'll be ok with just one car... anyone trading a V6 Accord (what's the point of that one, anyway?) on an Impreza is in deeeeep trouble.
Obviously, you're looking for a handler, maybe in the Rally vein (awd). Am I right? First up, you need to think used, since you're prone to trading often. Secondly, you should probably think about a two-car strategy. The above Impreza might be found well-used, or an Audi 90q might be had as a stand-in. Maybe even a particularly nice Audi 4000q, since you live in Texas. These are stout little cars, and easier to fix than their 5000 brothers.
Secondly, since you will have a fun car, you should now think of some mainstay that will appease HER. This I will leave up to your sense of tact. Chief Master Sergeants are FAMOUS for tact.
BTW, at 6k miles, you might get quite a few people to be interested in your car as a *nearly new* vehicle. After all, there's no service to worry about at this point, and you might be able to get someone to cough up quite a bit of $$ for the car. Terry might be able to shed some light on this, but it seems to me people might see a 6k vehicle in a different light than an 18k used car....
Good luck, my friend,
-Mathias
My wife has her 2002 Honda Accord. It has only 6000 miles also. I posted earlier about selling them and Terry gave me some numbers. I was thinking about selling both and getting my Wife whatever she wanted. Now she says she thinks she will keep her 2002 Accord. She thinks the 2004 is larger???
Anyway, I have the bug, so I don't know...
Thanks,
Jim
NO.
"... and be more fun to drive"
YES.
Can't have everything.
Good move on the '04 Ody, though.

I do *think* I'm done for a while, I finally got what I wanted....a 1/2 ton Crew Cab TRUCK. I've been whining for years wanting a short bed truck, hubby said no to an extended cab. Course now the Crew Cab was an easy sell, he was on it before me.
The second, and most important reason, is the other half. Not only does she look at cars as appliances to get from one place to another, but she's a CPA to boot! She looks at many things from an accounting prospective and with the price of insurance, depreciation etc., doesn't share my "enthusiasm" for new cars as often as I'd like.
So, if I could be an "honorary member" of the CCB, I would be forever greatful. I will even supply all the refreshments for every meeting, and do the clean up! Give it some thought...PLEASE!
The Sandman :-)
Maybe we should start a topic for CCB's so we can see who has the biggest addiction.
Good luck,
-Mathias

Clean title, no accidents, coming off lease.
what should I pay for it? what would be a good price? what would be a steal?
thank you
John
==== What would be a steal ..? .. a steal would be if they just handed the title over to you and you paid the $11.50 title transfer, now that would be a steal ...!
In the meantime, the miles are nice and low, the color is a winner, all the stuff (Navs are a dime a dozen) .. you mention it's coming off lease, the question is: whats the residual.? .. usually the dealer will let them pass and roll off to the auction and they will buy them there because of the stiff $$, unless they have an "instant" buyer ...
The Benz dealer will "maybe" pay $35ish, but probably the $36ish+ range for it, if they go CPO then they "might" have the $38ish+ range in it and I would think they would want $41/$42ish+ to see daylight .. it will "all" depend on the residual and how fast they can make the deal - good question so let me know ..
Terry.
We're trying to sell our 2001 Acura Integra LS coupe with auto, ABS & sunroof. It's light blue and has 17,500 miles. The car is in very good shape except for a few of dings and a scratch. I’m in San Francisco, California 94112.
I am looking to purchase a new Mazda 3s hatchback. What is the reasonable trade-in price for a brand?
What should we ask for with a private-party sale?
It would be much appreciated if you can help me!
==== Sounds like a nice one .. no miles, right color, ABS, slider, auto and your a "Left coaster" and most folks don't see too many low milers, most drive 75 miles a day just to get a Cappuccino and a makeover .. if there is no repaints, no "wine country" interior, just a "clean" Acura .. then trade side, in and around the the tall $10's low $11's ... down Retail Rd ~ a super duper detail, a great Ad bigger than the Gallo brothers, $13,900 *asking* and off it goes for $12,9/$13,5 - if it's as clean as it sounds it won't last long, even the coupe part won't hold it back .............

Hi Terry,If you would be so kind to provide your expertise regarding our situation below, it would be much appreciated.
We're trying to sell our 2001 Honda Civic EX sedan with auto and side airbags. It's silver with gray interior and has 30,600 miles. The car is in good shape except for a couple of dings and scratches. It has new front brake pads and just had the 30k service done. We're located in northern California (SF Bay Area).
What should we ask for with a private-party sale? What should our bottom-line be? A dealer offered $9500 a few months ago. We're hoping to do better if we sell it on our own. Appreciate your help!
=== Hey Howac, how is our boy Aaarnold doing ...? .. great little vehicles, $9,500 ..? not a bad trade figure, "might" "maybe" "could" get a dealer to wonder over to $10, maybe ...
This one has the side balloons, it's an EX 4dr with an auto and the miles are low ... a funny thing is starting to happen in the "Honda" market, new ones can be had for invoice and the used ones are getting bunched up .. that doesn't make them bad, it just makes them plentiful and "maybe" a little tuff to sell on the Retail side for any *real money ... but down the path to Retail Rd: Mop & Glo, nice Ad, $11,900 *asking* and cut that dude loose for the first $10,5/$11,5 .........
let me know how it goes ...
Terry.
A friend just bought this car on EBAY for a buy it now price of $37,100--but not a CPO--I think he did well even though it will cost him another $1,000 to pick it up. Assuming of course, no unpleasant surprises--the EBAY description made it sound like the second coming.
Seems to me the EBAY business model can work very well for a broker--buy at auction--sell for $1,000-$1,500 more--with few costs--but only if you are smart enough to buy right can move them fast and find enough desirable cars.

=== You could have had a new headliner put in for $75ish, (now maybe it wouldn't have matched .l.o.l. but what the heck) .. "sounds" like $1,900 *asking* .. and you can cry, kick and scream at $900+, but take it .............
