thanks for the info! I was just curious as to what kind of a deal my friend was getting, and I guess I felt somewhat responsible, since I found him that particular car! He had been looking at an '03 Grand Marquis LS that they had on the lot, with 22,000 miles, for the same price. When I saw this '04 Crown Vic with only 9K on it, I told him that if it were me, I'd get the Ford.
Now that I think about it, I haven't heard from him since that night he dropped me off and went back to the dealer to do all the paperwork and get the car. Hope he didn't end up getting pissed at me! ;-)
That's what we were thinking. Hubby wants to buy the car, I'm grumbling. He says we are putting too many miles on the Titan and the car could offset some........I'm still grumbling.
The Titan has 3000 miles on it as of today, will have 5000 by the end of the week. Anybody think we are putting too many miles on the Titan?? Bought new 6/11/04 with 313 miles on it.
Cleaned up fishing yesterday, came home with close to 100 lbs of king salmon.
I am about ready to pull the trigger on this vehicle and would like to know how I did..

Dealer sold the vehicle originally, and the guy came back a few weeks ago and traded in on a Porsche Cayenne.
First, no I haven't gotten a car yet, but I think I may have found one:
2002 Sentra GXE, 1.8 liter, 5spd, power windows/locks/mirrors, CD player. Silver with beige (odd combo!) interior in Columbia SC. Milage is 15.7K. Dealer is aking $10,9.
a new one at invoice minus rabates should be in the $12.5k-$13k range depending on options. there might not be many 5-speeds, but the new ones are FAR better values, IMO.
we have a used 2004 1.8S with 14k miles and are asking $11.9k if that gives you any indication.
andre:If you think your friend got that bad of a deal and he hasn't been over 250 miles and it's less than 5 days from the date of purchase tell him to take it back to Carmax and shop around. According to their website they will give you a full refund within 5 days/250 miles.

I should probably post this over on CCBA, but what the heck. 1999 Ford E150 Conversion. "Kustom Kreations" (goodness gracious...) 4.6 L V8, pretty good-looking basic conversion. Light gray with minimum of graphics; fiberglass running boards, good tires, no rust. Std roof, no TV cabinet or any of that junk. No leaks anywhere, as near as I can tell. Didn't see a hitch, but it's got the wiring, go figure. Get this: 119,xxx miles. And they've had it since February or so; weird lot that I go by now and again. I could use a fairly new high-miler if it's cheap enough; looking to put on 3-4k mile/year. They're "asking" $6,500, which might explain why it's still there.
Oh yeah, and this one could be a workhorse for the Mrs -- then I could get my van back and wouldn't need the Ford:
2002 Tundra V6 reg cab auto in gray. 50k miles. These only come very basic, with the Taliban package: Air Conditioning, manual locks, crankers.
A little rough around the edges, has commercial lease return written all over it. hood wouldn't pop, someone spliced into the fuse box (just a pwr takeoff, but the cover is missing), a really "confidence-inspiring" vehicle in other ways, too.
But still, what would a truck "like this" run? They ought to be available now off-lease, no?

Your not the Carrie thats in that crazy movie where you cough up pudding and your head spins around are you .? (kinda reminds me of my ex) ..
The 02 EX V6 4dr has quasi-good miles, color is good anywhere, so if it's clean, deep round things, no kisses, no french fry invasions, no Quasi Moto interior .. then trade side, in and around the $15ish figure .. Retail Rd money would be around the $17's ..
The Passat .........?!?!?
GL .. GLX .. GLS .. V6 .. awd Wagon/4dr - partridge in a pear tree ...?
I am not have any luck with finding what I was looking for, but here is candidate on a Dodge dealers lot.
2001 Durango SLT Black 4 Wheel drive Third seat Rear Air 4 Brand spankin new tires 4.7L V-8 Cloth seats, gray 29,000 miles very clean condition, Its black and still does not show a mark.
Dealer is asking $19,995, and so far he is down to $18,300 .I think it is still too much. Should I contine to fish(it is the last day of the quarter) or cut bait?
1998 Honda Civic HX 80,000 miles 2-door manual transmission Black exterior/dark gray interior Power windows, power locks, AM/FM stereo, AC, tilt, alloy wheels Exterior is in pretty good shape Maybe a couple of small scratches but nothing out of the ordinary for a black 6-year old car. Interior is spotless. Non-smoker, no stains. Everything works. Tires look pretty new.
I think you would quickly learn to despise the HX, since it was the strippo economy model (or at least I thought it was, before looking at the equipment it has). That is the model with the low HP/high MPG engine though, right? Not quite an Si.
I dunno. If you are going off the wagon, do it right.
On the Lexus earlier this month, you said "Trade side in and around the super high $20,0 figure, will probably see $21 because of the low low miles .. down the land of the Buckeyes is a little street called Retail Rd, finish any service work, a super detail, a Superb 5 liner big Fat Daddy ad in the paper, $24,900 *asking* and off it goes for the first $23,5/$24,5 .." The description is in post #19658
I have an offer for $23,300 from a guy in TN based on him liking the car when he comes to see it. He's called 4 times. :-) Thoughts? I turned down another offer from someone for $22k, but $23,300 is close enough to $23,500 for me to consider.
The HX isn't too strippo like the DX. It has power options although there's no cruise and no sunroof. It has 115HP which almost splits the difference between the DX (106) and the EX (127). It's definitely not a Si but it does get almost 50 mpg which would be a great thing considering I commute 80 miles round-trip for work.
.......... Did you take any drama lessons in school.?
You can whine, maybe even a little whimper, kick and stomp your feet, get some puppy dog tears going on and maybe even get into the: throwing yourself on the hood part ................... $23,300 - Take it ..! .. dealer prices have dropped about $500 since we last spoken.
He did offer to send a deposit. I'm going to be out of town for a couple days, and then he's going to be out of town for a couple days. I'm actually not in a hurry as long as it sells by September. I was thinking of just saying I would hold it for a set number of days, and then it's up for grabs again. :-)
for the advice and the warning. I plan to protect myself...this guy seems legit though. Sounds like an older guy on the phone...upgrading from a '92. So far, the calls have been legit, and the emails have been fraudulent. :-)
Went down to the Dodge dealer today 'cause they transferred a black Rumble Bee in from Fort Worth. They gave me a trade in figure on my TT. $16,500. I said thanks, give my keys, and I'll be on my way. Can you imagine? The *NERVE* of some people.
...... Unfortunately or fortunately depending on ones view point, Q has already been indoctrinated into the:
"I am the King of Siam and I will be more than happy to pay you much more than you are asking" email barrage .. it's getting to be a HUGE business ~ so sellers beware .............!
The funny thing is, the people sending the emails didn't seem that bright. They weren't asking the right questions about the car to be professional car buyers, or even consumers for that matter. I guess they figured the quick sale and big rubber check would cloud people's judgement. Never did hear back from the guy in London when I said his email "fit the pattern of some scams I'd read about."
That's the one, but in my case, it was Saudi Arabia, Spain, and London. Nothing from Siam. :-) And all three were buying cars for clients. Two of them even sent the exact same email except for the location.
recently, on ebay, my friend was looking to buy a sport bike - he dropped a bid on a GSXR 1000, and ended up getting 5 messages from outsiders with bikes "just like the one you're bidding on" for sale. Most were in New York, and the prices were unreal - like $2000 for a bike that retails at $9k - they wanted a money order to be sent, and they'd deliver it for free!
I told my buddy he'd be waiting at the end of his driveway for a delivery truck for a LONG time!

Akangl, you are sure putting the miles on your new Titan. You definitely need an "extra" set of wheels to off-set that.
You were talking about renting a travel trailer, I just got back from renting a 31ft. motorhome and took it up Hwy 1 along the California coast. It was a fun trip and I'm going to rent another next year and maybe do a few of the state parks. You are going to have a blast in your trailer. The people all seem to be so nice, it's like a "club", people seem to immediately bond.
If those darn motorhomes didn't depreciate so fast, I might consider buying one. I found a place that trades their units every year so they basically are renting new units. Mine was a 2004 with only 5,000 miles on it. I drove it 1,200 miles and averaged 8.5 mpg... not too bad for a V-10 engine and weighing 14,000 lbs.

Okay, heres a story. Sold my '93 190E 2.3 122K miles, perfect, shiny paint, perfect interior, all dealer performed svcs, fair tires to a private party for $4800. Cashiers check turned out to be counterfeit. Cal. Highway Patrol called, they recovered the vehicle at the DMV, when the unwitting new owner, tried to transfer the title. So my perpetrator sold it to someone else who was nabbed, now I have my car back! All in the space of 4 weeks. The perp put less than 100 miles on it and it is still in perfect condition. I'm waiting for the DMV to issue a duplicate title and I'm going to attempt to sell it again.(cash only, at the bank) Authorities still looking for perp. Edmunds says $6K at the dealer, (the car really is perfect guys) and $4800 for private party. So what's it worth now? Should I order a Carfax report and see what's on it? What should I tell prospective buyers, if anything? I can't believe I got it back. For a naive girl from the midwest, I got a huge education pretty fast.
...... Put it up for sale, again .. have all the paperwork, carfax, police report, etc ...
Getting the vehicle back was really lucky, getting $4,800 for it was amazing ~ that should have kicked some bells off .. sellers beware ...............

I second buying RV's used as the way to go. Got my 1995 29' Class C for all of 22k 3 years ago. It theoretically hasn't depreciated much since then. Out of curiousity Terry, if you have any idea, what is typically the trade/retail difference on used motorhomes? Wrestling with the idea of doing something with this one.
As for Audi All-Roads, the boss at work recently just showed up with an 11k mile used '03, similar equipment, metallic army green color inside and out(yuk!) I figured he paid mid thirty-ish for it. Supposedly got 4500 as a trade for a '97 A4 2.8, 110k, do-it-yourself shifter, no roof, cloth seats, doinked on the right front with a so-so repair, silver/black. Just the german import everyone wants <not>. I think they gave him a gift taking it at all. What's funnier is the new one's been in the shop twice in the week he's had it for electrical glitches.

03 Passat GLS 1.8t with 9k, we have the moron sound, cold pack, slider, auto, hydes ... if it's a clean one, no I bounced off Aunt Lucys barn, no drive by's, no Taliban interiors .. trade side, depending on the dealer you might be seeing the low to mid $17's, might "maybe" get lucky and get a dealer to travel towards $18, the miles save this one .. lots of Passats for sale right now, lots of dealer money, etc.
