Guys, you're killin' me here. I'm over in the old country for a bit of vacation time, and bowke is dangling juicy Porsches for NO money 6 hours south of me... next time, gimme a call... $19???
I say you need to find yourself a new store, that's not the first time your management has come up with some hinky "we only do what we know" type stuff. Sounds like your UC mgr needs to get a spine, or some other parts.
Ain't the internet great?

Good morning, or it might mean "get your fat mother out of the house" .. hmm, I should have never dropped this little translator gizmo in the water ....
But anyway ... Soooo, we have a 3/4 ton "Cheby" auto Silverado LS with loooow miles, we have a little Ecab action, it's a 4x4, we have the 6 litre, fancy wheels, deep rubber, spare is fresh, no burn em's, liner and Tonneau, good color for the area and you say it's nice .... good description thanks.!
Well if the paint isn't all swirled up, no practice sessions at the local Nascar, service is 100%, no repaints, no lets carry my 8 best friends to work everyday, a clean one .. then trade side, in and around the $17's, probably the mid to tall $17's and you might "maybe" see $18 if all is well in the universe ....
Good luck, happy hunting and don't forget to let me know.!
Terry.
140k vehicles don't particually sell well .l.o.l. but imports will - "properly done" .. that means deep sneakers, a "come to Jesus" detail, a great 5 liner Ad in the paper for 10/14/21 days, not the 2 liner: car for sale 140k nice, that won't do it .. have all the service records ready, finish any service and do it right, $4,900 *asking* and get ready to cut it from the herd at the first $3,5/$4,5 .. ego kills most sales, so park it at the curb, remember it's a 140k 99 Eclipse not a 14 year old Rolex ........
Let me know which way the wind blows ....
Terry.
These are funny vehicles, in some area's of the country they get all the money because they're super popular, then in some areas they kind of go "blah", south of you in CA they get stupid money (of course out there, All cars get stupid money .l.o.l.) in the midwest they grab Tall Peso's, in the DFW area they kinda go ho-hum, down here we have them coming out of the woodwork, so this will be more of a guesstamation because of the area ... trade side, in and around the $25ish zipcode, the short miles, the color and the toys should save it ...
I will be interested in how it goes, so Don't forget to let me know .!
Terry.
If it's clean to the bone, then trade side in and around the the super ultra tall $15's low mid $16's, "might" maybe get a God fearing dealer to march close to that $17 figure if he has been going to church lately, but thats a big might, probably $16,5 would just about kill it with that blue color ... down the curvy path of Retail Rd, $18,900 *asking* and blow and go at the first $17,5/$18,5 .. you guys have tax difference advantage in Texas, right.? might be the better way to go .........
Terry.
They had 2 other 01s on the lot marked $22900in no sale green.
I can assume they sold my 01 already because somebody was test driving it while I was doing paperwork and they gave me a used 03 CTS to drive till Monday when my 04 is ready.
BTW: The sticker on the window of this CTS w/ 36k miles and described like the one above is $26900. Nice car !
Thanks much !!!!!!!!!
Actually, I'm a little surprised you haven't posted more about these ... I would "think", they would be a bigger problem in the land of the bears, than in other places of the country .. it kinda comes in spurts here, they seem to hit the NJ/Oh/Pa/Mi/WI auctions in droves, then they kinda go quiet for 8/12/14 months, ya know after all the lawsuits .l.o.l.. then it gets quiet again, people become aware of the bad purchase, dealers quit buying them and all of a sudden it starts all over again, there was Bunches of stupid Yankee dealers buying these about 15ish months ago and the Canadian dealers were in Hog Heaven, and why not .. they're being disclosed at the block as Canadian, the American dealers are paying $900/$1,200/$1,500 less per unit and the Canadian dealers are making $800/$1,500, $2,000 more than having them on their lots - what a deal.! ~ until the Sh** hits the fan and it gets quiet again .....
You hafta remember, nobody knows it's TMU until it's traded and/or serviced and that might take 20/30 months .. I would hafta check, but after the 1st of this year, only Ford would still cover the warranty and Bimmer (IIRC) til' 05, Chrysler and the rest have dropped the hammer on warranty work .. is it a good deal.? .. it's a good deal if you can pay *Half* of average retail and you know a great mechanic and you have equity in your home and your going to keep it and drive it for the next 55/65/75 months, then the resale becomes a mute point - and that "ain't you" .l.o.l................................... ;^}
I can't tell you how many CT/Maine/Philly/Buffalo, Green Bay, etc, owners that get that "dead mullet look" when I hit their $18,000 vehicle at $9grand, especially when they thought it was worth $21, it kinda screws up their trip to Disney World ~ because they DO get Goofy ..! ...... l.o.l..........
Terry.

If, all the service is there, no drive by's, the interior doesn't have that shotgun effect, cold breeze, basically a nice vehicle and it looks and drives like a 01, then down Retail Rd ~ super duper detail (that doesn't mean the local Swirl o' matic car wash) spend a few bucks or your 2/3 hours, put in a Nice 5 liner Ad (that doesn't mean the local Nickel paper - nice car for sale xxxx) finish any service (that doesn't mean adding washer fluid) do it right, $6,900 *asking* and say Sayonara at the first $5,5/$6,5 .. I'm not a betting man, but $5,9 might be the target price, but remember - Cash Talks and do-do walks - and don't forget to park the ego .................
Terry.
No rust, no oh oh it's Maaco, 60k service and all is good with the world - then trade side, in and around the ultra tall $9's low $10's, might "could" see the mid $10's depending on the dealer, no slider and that psychotic blue might hold it back though .... down the path to Retail Rd, ya know the deal - $12,9 *asking* and off it goes to one of those cute cheerleaders from OSU for $11,5/$12,5 ................... :}
Let me know ......

Called our Ford salesman and told him we changed our mind and would not be picking up the F-350. Wish somebody had smacked me years ago.
Holy cow, just realized we've had that Dodge for 8 months!
Seriously, now that you're keeping it, would looking into a heavier duty rear end (since this seems to be an issue when towing) be feasible?
Does the lower acquisition cost in the Canadian market translate into lower used car prices in Canada?
For example, would a Chevy Impala with 80k km in Windsor, ON go for significantly less than a Chevy Impala with 50k miles??

Audio/Entertainment system.
I have a full Pioneer system in the vehicle. To include. One flip out headunit monitor, including DVD navigation, XM radio, Video inputs, etc. I have 4- 6.5 inch headrest monitors installed into leather. 4 wireless headsets, and a switcher that allows for PS2 or other system on the go gaming, PLUS the switcher allows each screan to run independently and everyone can do something differently...all while we dont have to hear a thing. You can run XM radio, navigation and a DVD or Game all at the same time. I also have a 10 inch kicker subwolfer in a custom bandbass box, and an amplifier to back it up. All interior speakers where upgrades to top line Pioneer as well. The install is very clean, and all the Honda seats work as they should. i.e center row seating still can move from captians to bench and rear bench can still fold down. Totally a custom install done on this one.
As of tuesday this next week I will also have the entire woodgrain kit installed in the van as well. This is garaged most of the time, and especially during the one snow season weve been here. We originally purchased this vehicle in CA in 2002. We moved to IL just before last winter, and bought a Rodeo so the Ody could stay in the garage.
Anyhow, any feed back anyone could get me would be greatly appreciated. This is defianately not your average mini van, and this is why I need help in figuring a fair for all parties price.
THANKS again,
Lee
As for the rearend, we are just going to go with what it has until it dies.
The catalytic converter will be fixed tomorrow or monday, couldn't get it off the truck tonight, too rusted on.
Now back to our travel trailer dream. Course that's not nearly as much money as a new truck. There's other reasons for it to that make tons of sense, namely being able to escape the smoke when it rolls in every summer......my daughter can't be around smoke at all. Not justifying, just stating facts, her dr actually suggested it.
Speaking of smoke, we've got fires going everywhere, its a bad summer. Smoke rolls back in like it was and little one is going to be going to Grandma's house for a few weeks.
Upkeep on a Lexus? I thought those were like my Altima, just change the oil every 1/2/3 years and replace tires when they wear out...

As for the STI: If a 60 mo finance is a good deal for the STI - What strategy would you use to lower the monthly payments, dealer is quoating 558 on a finance....3K down.
Thanks again for the insight and help!
Sam
Ya know I wondered about that, but I forgot to ask .. what upkeep.? the oil changes every 3,000 miles or the "getting on your knee and checking the air pressure every 6 months deal" or it's black, probably doesn't like to keep it clean .. ? what a trauma.!
Terry.
Before you get all nutso on the travel trailer, I hope your looking used .. these things have the resale value of 4 day old Kimchee ...

Terry.
We have 23k on this LT thats from the wonderful state of California, hows are boy Aaarnold .? .. we have the tunes, short in miles for the area, tall in miles anywhere else, we have the blue thing going on (sky blue?) with the tan guts, we have the wheels and the tour pack .. if it's super clean, no repaints, no soccer Mom interior and the service is 100% - then trade side, depending on the dealer, in and around the mid/tall $30 figure, "maybe" get a dealer to struggle to the $31ish range if it's reeeally nice .. actually I'm driving the twin to it, 6,700 miles, tour pack, sky blue, propus wheels, beige guts and top .. nice vehicles.
Let me know how it goes ..!
Terry.
Okay, here we go, got your seat belt on ..?
Triple black in Hotlanta -Yikes- no help, 30k ho-hum, needs some sneakers, we have the tunes, side balloons, handshaker etc .. nice vehicles and in demand, at least til early fall, this one has to Clean, low in miles, knee deep in rubber and has to have that day-glo "look" a/m stuff is a no-counter .. trade side, your lookin' down the barrel of the high $14's low $15's .. dealers are paying the lowish $16's for the "baby dolls" with miles in the 12/15/18K range *if* they need -0- ....
Down Retail Rd, new round things, superlative detail, great 5 liner Ad in the Atlanta paper, $17,900 *asking* and away it goes for the first "real" $16,5/$17,5 .... see what the dealer will "really" do, work off invoice plus 3%, figure your Stang for $15,0 plus the taxes and flea's, then add the pay-off .. strong credit should get you 3.9/4.9% for 60mo - "I don't think" there is a factory finance deal on the 05's, but check and see .....
I hope this helps .....
Terry.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated! We are thinking of trading in our van which is in great shape but has high mileage. We tried last year and got disgusted with the steal tantics of the dealers, have finally gotten over that and figured we would try again. Here's the info:
Year
2000 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE
Gold (E) / Beige (I)
AM / FM / CD
Integrated Child Seats
Power windows and locks
Dual Sliding Doors
Rear Air Conditioning
Roof Rack
Overhead console (compass, trip odometer, etc)

V6 3.3 Flex Fuel (whatever that means)
Couple of scratches on the driver/passenger door (child thought he was Picasso)
Other than that car is clean and in great shape.
Edmunds and NADA show trade in value should be between 5 - 6K. We've already gone to one dealer who said it was only worth 2.5K and he could show us retail to retail or wholesale to wholesale, what were they talking about?
Most importantly what is the van really worth?
The dealer really does not want this sled and will probably wholesale it off. Steal Antics my foot; they're doing you a favor at $2.5...
The market is very slim on these things; private buyers with cash who don't drive a lot of miles and want a deal. I belong to that group, and with DC's history on transmission and other woes, I would't be interested period. At 137k, this puppy is going to cough up a major component every three months... maybe not, but that's the expectation...
Always happy to help adjust expectations,
I remain
-Mathias
:-)
We are very limited by the Titan's GVWR as to what we can have tongue weight wise. We have to keep to under 500 lbs dry tongue weight to stay safe, then there's the GVWR of the trailer, don't want to be over about 6500 lbs, oh and don't want it to be too long. AHHHHHHH, too many things to think about.
I'm sure glad we didn't just jump on buying that F-350 and really thought about it, would have regretted our decision for sure. I was under the Dodge last night, that truck is still very new looking and has no leaks. Should last him a few more years.
Can you explain the retail to retail or wholesale to wholesale talk? The dealer would not be doing us a "favor", the car is in great shape, has never "coughed" anything up other than tires and a battery once. We see these vehicles sold in this area for $5 to 6K all the time, I know the mileage is a factor, but $2.5K? Come on!
Living in SC
Or they'll be happy to show an 'overallowance' on the trade, and sell you the new one at sticker.
I think.
Secondly, neither you nor anyone else who isn't a car dealer is 'seeing these vehicles sold [..] for $5 - 6k'. All people ever see are asking prices, and there is a lot of give in those. Terry can tell you what it's really worth, but I think I've got it right. And like I said, I personally wouldn't touch it for over $3, and probably not at all.
Steiner's rule of selling used cars: 'nobody has to buy your car, you have to make them WANT to buy it.' And that means price.
Good luck, and let us know.
-Mathias
Second, the Caravans have a history of weak transmissions. Over the years, I have had more than my share of Caravans and Voyagers and have replaced my share of transmissions.
Finally, the "book price" of vehicles tend to less accurate the further you get away from normal annual Milesage (12-18k). Try buying a 2000 popular model with 10k miles at anything close to book. Try selling a vehicle with 130k miles at book and you'll see what I mean. Been there, done that more times than I care to.
IMHO, you have two options. First, drive the sled until you have a major component failure (engine, tranny, etc.). Second, sell the car on your own. Once you advertise the amount of response (or complete lack thereof) will let you know where you stand.
They can't warranty the vehicle, guarantee it in any way, you can't get financing on a vehicle with those miles...lots of factors.
That's a vehicle I wouldn't consider trading in for the facts shown above - sell it privately.
1. No front line dealer will even touch selling that minivan, it is destined to the buy here pay here or budget corner lot.
2. No bank will finance on it with those miles, only a high risk lender or buy here pay here.
3. All the guides are very inaccurate when you have higher mileage or older vehicles. Condition varies so much on either the guides virtually always are in error very high.
As to your vehicle. $4,000 or so, $4,900 ASKING, is a private party retail out the door number. $2000-$3000 is trade side, low side if there are even the slightest defect or issues, high side if it is near perfect and would need ZERO for sale on the buy here pay here lot. Since that vehicle is probably destined for a buy here pay here lot, why not shop it around to them for a cash sale. Then you will really get a better idea of what it is worth cash money.
FYI we had a "fleet" 1999 just like yours, high miles 128K, overall good condition, well equipped, was a delivery vehicle for a local area flower company, ALL severe duty maintenance was performed on time. BHPH price $3,900. The dealer that took it in on trade called us the day they traded it in on a new Caravan, needed basic detail clean up, tires, and check up, total on the lot investment is less than $2500, $$$ value shown on our books. Sold early this summer in under 3 weeks. Plus the interior smelled really flowery... LOL..
When Terry gets caught up to get to your posting, he can give an up to date wholesale/trade amount.
Why is it when WE give you advise you toss it off but you listen to your banker??
FINALLY!!
- Hail damage repaired on roof, hood, and trunk, still noticeable if you look very closely.
- $100 in sanding and glazing to remove swirl marks on roof, hood, and trunk.
- $1000 damage to right side in sideswipe collision. Repaired, but there is a lot of overspray and just a hint of orange peel to the repair. And some tiny blue marks on the rear quarter panel.
- $500 damage to rear bumper, rear bumper cover and impact absorber replaced. Paint color is off if you look closely. Same body shop that did the last repair. I'm not going back there!
Exterior is in good (but not excellent) shape except for the shoddy repair work. New Michelin tires in rear, half worn Continentals in front. I'm just looking for a hypothetical value here on what has become my daily beater. Cosmetically it's in worse shape than my cream puff 1999 Jetta was with 90,000 miles on it! Thanks!
Roughly 6 mos and the Dodge will be paid off, I'm looking forward to the extra $1100/mo (actual payment is $500, but we pay extra), add in the tax return and we should have that debt gone by April. That will be an amazing feeling!!!!
One more question if I may, because of my daily commute (85 miles / 5 days a week), my next purchase will be either a Volvo S40 / Envoy / Highlander, of the 3, which will retain it's value the most, when, in 4 years I'll be wanting to change vehicles and it has 100K miles on it?
The price we pay to live in the country.....
i think thats an easy choice... Yota's do much better than most w/ respect to high mileage....anything domestic, you'll get killed (as you are witnessing)
