Should add that it's 94 Camry LE sedan (4 cyl, automatic) dark green with 131k miles
  • krodrenkrodren Member Posts: 31
In Phila. PA area, it's a garage queen in excellent condition with 13,900 mis., 5 sp. manual, all options (wood, sport and performance pkgs, power top), topaz (dark) blue with tan top and interior.
Will a MINI dealer allow an even trade on a lightly optioned MCS--i.e., $22-23K?

have acquired another car and am going to sell this: 2002 Saturn SL 4 door, in Columbus Ohio. 5 speed, AC, factory CD. This is the base model, no other options. 48K miles, blue with tan int. Condition is good, tires are about worn out, but I can replace them. One scratch on the right side mirror. In Columbus, Ohio.
    I'm thinking I will price it around 5500??? Edmunds trade-in is $4,502...

           ===================================

In the land of the struggling Buckeyes ... we have a 02 base Saturn SL, 4 banger of course, 4dr, handshaker, cold breeze, 48k, we have that darn no-sale blue thing going on ... if it's nice (minus the tires) no terrorist attacks, no drive-by shootings, no funny stuff in the ashtrays and it looks/feels and drives like 25k .. then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $3's -- $4,500 ..? .. with 48k, with a handshaker and no rubber.? maybe when the alignment of Neptune and Pluto happens on the 5th week of the 13th month .....

Get some rubber, finish any service, get with the detail gods, do a glorious ad, $5,900 *asking* and off it goes for $5,0/$5,5 .. I'm sure someone in the Ohio State Buckeyes neighborhood will catch this one, even though their receiver core can't ................ ;)

    ....... Your trading the Z3..?

Hey, what can I say .. the miles are super low, it's the 3.0, sport pack, all the junk, color is ho-hum .. these have to be like new to get any real money, no repaints, no funny touch-ups with a catchers mit, no curb burns .. you have a great football team, but you're in the wrong side of the season for a Z3 ... trade side, if you see $21ish (real money) I would be doing hand flips ................... :)

let me know what happens ...!

This car is stunning with the contrasting tan top and interior, unless you just don't like blue--altho I know silver or black are more popular. And the 3.0 just doesn't stop revving.....screw it, I'm keeping the thing!

Looks very clean except that it has some repaint work for an incident that happened on the dealer's lot. Left rear qtr was brushed against a pole and made a crease over the wheel. It was repaired very nicely and they also shot the rear passenger door to repair a scratch. I couldn't tell it had been repaired if I hadn't seen it before they did.

    Dealer is asking $24K.

Rear bumper has two scratches airbrushed, good job
    Not a single door ding....
58,000 miles, probably breaking 60k my trade time in a few weeks (kid was in treatment for a year and a half, 3-4 trips to Philly per week)

TSW Imola (silver, conservative) wheels with Nitto NT450 tires - tires and wheels have less than 5k.

Service is solid - 60k done, including transmission, fairly new brakes all around, brand new front struts.

Thats a fair price for the Tacoma - even with the handshaker .. I would try them at $14,9 and see what happens ... probably $15,5 gets it home.

I got it for $14,900. Dealt with a kid in the internet department. He gave me $500 over "cost" on it. Don't know if "cost" was the true cost or not, but I thought it was a good price. Also said he got about 20 more calls on the truck after I bought it.

Yeah....no surprise that sports car values start to slide in the fall....of course I started trying to sell it back in July/August

Ok we have a 94 Camry, no sale green, 131K (not quite a go-zillion miles on a Toyota), needs work to the tune of $2500 or so.

Trade side, Zero dollars should be pretty close, you might see an ACV of $100. Honestly no dealer has a place for a car with that many miles and needing that much significant work. Even if everything were working, it still is a 10 year old car with 131K, going to the auction it will be.

Private party side, good luck selling the car needing that much work to anyone for more than a few hundred dollars. If it were in good running condition with everything fixed, no rust, good paint, private party side retail is the way to go.

I would have a trusted mechanic give the mechanicals a good inspection, especially the engine and transmission, if they are good, little or no rust on the car, good paint, it probably is worth fixing. How long have you been driving it? If you know the car, the devil you know is better than the demon you don't.

Believe it or not, vehicles and boats don't *appreciate* ~ even the ones with 13k ..

As it stands, it's a $24,900 *asking* vehicle down Retail Rd .. try ebay or do a nice spread in the Hotlanta paper and grab $23ish .. come spring you will be sucking air and visiting Tibetan alters to get $21ish on a very good and special day ... not knocking the vehicles, but Z3's get looked at alot, more lookin' than buying - if ya know what I mean ........ ;)

We have short miles on this one, right color, it's an LX 4dr -auto- ... if it's as nice as you think it is, then trade side, in and around the the mid to tall $5's, might "maybe" get a Cowboy fan to drop $6,0 in it - maybe ..... me personally - down Retail Rd it goes, it's already detailed, so get the sponge and bucket out, get a killer 4/5 liner Ad in the Dallas paper, have the service records hanging from the mirror, $8,495 *asking* and cut it loose to one of those cute little Dallas Cheerleaders for $7,5/$7,9 .........

According to the sales brochure I have, 318 was standard with two optional 383s (2 bbl and 4 bbl) and the 440 4bbl. Try finding a 70 GT with the 440 6Pak! Cheysler says none built, I've seen two documented examples!

I need a light-duty hauler for the wife's antique business, cuz she always drives the Sienna around with 850 lbs. of furniture, ceramics, and glassware ready to crush her in an accident. What good is a great crash test rating, when the cargo isn't properly secured?

The charge is: 3-5k miles per year, not too prone to rust or leaks, OK reliability, and maybe a manual transmission. A price of $5 to $7 max so I do not have to have collision on THREE vehicles.

Small garage, so no longbeds. Best ideas I've been able to come up with:

'00 Ranger reg or ecab, manual, small V6 or 4cyl, 60k miles or so... I'm thinking $4-6 if it's nice, from a private individual...

'99 (+ or -) F150 SWB reg cab V6 stick; pain to go up and down driveway, but the perfect vehicle for the business. I'm thinking a 60k example in good shape would be $6+

'00 or '01 reg cab Tundra? Just TRY and find one... even a miley one would still be close to $10, no? It'd fit the garage, but barely....

'00 Taco or Frontier: reg or ecab, they're rare around here, typically expensive, and kinda small for my purpose.. the NEW taco would be perfect, but even a reg cab 5sp with AC is $15 sticker. ouch.

I'll take an Astro with cargo divider, but they're beat up when they're sold, and reliability seems all over the map.. some disastrous, some great...

Question for Terry: Am I in the ballpark price-wise?

Question for Drift: What do you see with F150's and Rangers? In small Fords, I see a lot of manual tranny repair in ads, makes me suspicious. The F150 should be fine, but anything to look out for? My last Ford leaked a lot... expensive to fix and a nuisance...

I'm thinking overall Ford is my best bet to drive something that meets my needs, doesn't leave the Mrs. stranded, and does not cost an arm and a leg to maintain...

    Thanks in advance!
Encouraging anyone who knows anything to chime in, I remain,
    -Mathias

                =========================

Reposting is a good thing ....

Pottstown, don't you have a college around there somewhere.?

Sounds like it might be a nice one, we have the 4wd, low miles, 3rd door, Ecab with the 8ft bed, 3/4 ton, 6.0 V8, automatic, right color anywhere, just no LS options so we have crankers, might have to dump the lift kit ...

If we haven't bounced off any cliffs, the bed doesn't look like a knife fight in progress, you haven't scraped every tree between you and Philly, no click click in the 4WD, no paint by numbers and it looks/feels and drives like a 03 ... then trade side, in and around the super ultra tall $11's, low/mid $12's - this one is kind of a freak with the long bed, Xcab, 3rd door and the low miles ..... in your area, maybe a trip down Retail Rd, $15,9 *asking* etc, etc, probably see $14,9/$15,5 ... let me know what they put in this dude .......... ;)

........ I wouldn't be afraid of the Fords, if Yota or Honda built 300,000 trucks a year for the last 10/15 years they would also have a few that broke too soon or too easy, also alot of the problems seem to come from the guy that buys (or gets talked into) a manual or buying a 6 banger when he should be in a V8, spend a little time at a few boat ramps and see what I mean .. that said, there's a Kazillion 150/200k "Ferds" out there ...

The import trucks are going to be a little on the expensive side, I would be looking at the F series .. but because of the weather conditions up there, I would probably be lookin' at the cargo van types - you don't want the Mrs. buying a Louie the 15th and walking out to 5 inches of snow or rain do you ...?

the only Ford cases I'm seeing is transmission failures (autos) and engine management problems.

How about just a nice, small, enclosed cargo trailer? You can pick up a nice Wells Cargo or other major brand for under $1,000, and a super nice one for under $2,000.

Throw some nice vinyl decals on the trailer for your wife's business, and you're all set. - Certainly a Sienna can tow 1500 lbs, combination of trailer and cargo, and you get free (*) advertising...

For the low amount of miles you'll be driving it, I think the Ranger is your best choice, and the one you can most likely get for under $6K.

On an '00, you could probably get a V-6, automatic, regular cab, miles under 50K for $6K or less.. at 5K miles per year, you can run it forever, and still get half your money back out of it.. But, you'll probably need a cap, if she is hauling antiques. Unless you get a tall cap, you'll be giving up some height advantage to a cargo van..

Most cargo vans don't have bulkheads built in, so that would be an extra expense.. most of them have been abused. Plus, they come in last regarding safety.

Everyone likes the idea of a Toyota truck, but doesn't have the bang for the buck like the Ranger.

Looks like we need a bigger car. ;)

    Location: Portland, Oregon
    2001 Subaru Forester S (Premium)
    4dr/wagon
    2.5l, AWD, Auto
65000 miles (a few hundred under, but could hit it by trade-in time)
Silverthorn Metallic / Grey cloth interior
All the S(premium) goodies: Heated seats, side airbags, 6-cd, huge moonroof, heated mirrors/windshield, alarm. Plus sport grille, hood deflector, and aftermarket shop window tint.
Condition is good, with some minor paint scuffs on the rear bumper cover and the usual highway chips in the front cover. Tint is peeling on the driver window (I could have the shop remove the front window tints if that'd improve the value)
Tires replaced with Turanzas about 18-20k ago.
Regularly maintained, switched to synth oil at 10k.

    Thanks!

..... Sales brochure.? .. you have a sales brochure from the 70's.? .. we might have to send someone over to do one of those home makeovers to find your carpet .l.o.l...

What ever happened to the Benz's your dad was lookin' at .?

                              Terry.

Yeah, I've got brochures for the Furys back to 1966 and vintage ads from 1960 - 78, too!

My father in-law passed on those CLKs - dealer would not deal; either pay asking price or take it elsewhere. He'll be ready for a new Benz come the Spring anyway.

    Thanks again.

This '04 Odyssey EX-L w/RES has only 3,400 miles on it and is basically brand new. Above & beyond all the regular stuff, it has an automatic sunroof and wood grain added. Of cours in excellent/perfect condition. Color is Midnight Blue. We're in the metro Atlanta GA area. Right now, what can we expect on this trade-in? We experience difficulty today seeing #s that even came close to expecations. Please help!
    Thanks in advance!

    Location: Metro Denver, CO
Year/Make/Model: 1999 VW New Beetle GL
    Engine/Trans: 2.0L gas, 5-speed manual
    Mileage: 66K
Color: bright blue w/ black cloth interior
Major Options: 6-cd changer in trunk
Condition: OK to fair. New tires at 60K; brakes redone in April; no "kisses"; have all maintenance records; would need a good detailing, inside and out
Other: Right front fender and suspension pieces replaced in February after deer-induced trip over a concrete curb

            =================================

Sorry .. I don't ignore anyone, I just have the attention span of fish ..... reposting is always good, now what were we talking about.?

Oh yeah, cars in Bronco territory ..... we have a 99 GL VW new Beetle (actually being 7 years old, wouldn't that be considered an "old" Beetle.?) .. anyway, we have that move it around thing between the seats, bright blue - great, nobody goes blind on these, 66k which is low for the year .. aah, we have that old story of the "deer-induced trip over a concrete curb" deal going on and all in all, it sounds like a dirty ol' Bug with new rubber that you kinda maybe took care of, kind of ...

Your not getting any help from the color and the handshaker is null and void, we have new stoppers and the service is ok ... depending on the dealer, you should be seeing the super tall $3's, low/mid $4's ... the miles save it and the color and shifter taketh away ..... probably a great little vehicle down Retail Rd: a superb detail, a come to Jesus 4/5 liner Ad, $6,900 *asking* and let it waddle down the driveway at the first $5,9/$6,5 ......

                 do you still feel ignored.?

            =============================

Sounds nice, super low miles and all the stuff, all except for that no-sale blue thing going in Hotlanta ... if it's "new", no kisses, no soccer Mom damage, I mean NEW .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $21's low $22's, might "maybe" get a dealer to get super ultra brave and wander towards the (gulp) $23 figure ...

what have they been offering you.?

2004 Pontiac Vibe bought Halloween last year.
Silver monotone over gray cloth, 9,200 miles, 5speed stick.
Power package, no ABS, no side bags, no alloys, no roof.
Oil changed and nothing else, car is clean but not perfect; odd scratch on the plastic in back, small smudge on the back seat (1/2" across, lousy kid), otherwise like new.
What's it worth at auction/on the street?

Might need to get me a truck; either this puppy goes or the 135k Prizm goes...

Oh yeah, and good morning Terry, you're up early!

...... Good morning, and why are you up.? .. you didn't lose a particle in your sleep, did you.?

Went to bed early after watching some of the College games, so that means I get up early .l.o.l... this one has no miles, no stuff and no auto, it will still see the tall $10's, low low $11's trade side - of course those tiny miles help .... Retail Rd.? .. $12,9 *asking* and if someone hates it and they offer you $11,5ish then you take it ......... ;)
