Alabama .. right.?
Nice vehicle.! .. right options, right miles, right color, we have a "NG" on a wheel deal ... if this dude is clean, no Swiss Army knives in the seats, no KFC in the trunk, no a drove over my neighbors John Deere riding mower and had Uncle Salvatore do all the paint work - just a reeeal nice one .... then trade side, in and around the $37/$38 range .. lets knock off for the new rim, the super ultra tall $36, low/mid $37,0 area, might even get a brave Hiawatha to march into the $38 range .... these dudes still get Big money and still have twice the market of the "new" body style, dealers are paying the strong $38's for the low milers - and they stand it line for them ....
Maybe think about Retail Rd ..... serviced, detailed, standing tall, superlative Ad, $42,490 *asking* ~ cry and whimper at $40,9/$41,5 - but take it ............
Let me know .........
Terry.
............hmm... wonder why i don't subscribe to cr?
Hi Terry, yup, this is Sonny in Delaware, good detective work
Sonny
Good luck!
>>I do not enjoy driving the camry. I enjoy driving SAAB's.
That 810,000 represents about .003 of the car owners in the nation - doesn't do anything for me, sorry.
the only way subies could have topped a poll like that is if they did it in the northeast. if they polled that many people equally throughout the country, they would have probably come away with honda or toyota as the winner.
maybe this is the same reason they thought kerry was going to win the election? ;-)
I have read tons of your posts on the various forums and find them very informative. I could be wrong, but seems to me that your litigation cases closely mirror CR reliability results except in a few areas, most notably Hyundais.
Have you looked at their reliability ratings to see how far they are from your business experiences? I don't completely rely on CR, but I do find it to be a useful source of information when doing car research.
It could be worse. I suspect many people read a long term report in a car magazine and decide the reliability of a model based on only that one experience.
My recently deceased grandfather bought a new Ford almost every year. Until his death he would often say he would love to get another convertible, but was not willing to because they leak too much. Upon further prodding, I found that he based this on his personal experience with a Ford convertible in the 1940s.
I guess my point is 810,000 surveys sure beats the hell out of my Grandpa's anecdotal evidence.
I do 20 GM cases every week, and I'm not close to touching the number of GM cases taken in every week. Try 3 times that.
Seeing Hyundai, especially, and Buick, a major factor in my life, seen erecently in a national poll, rank near the top of ANY survey dumbfounds me, as Korean vehicle cases haven't backed off an inch in the 4 years I've been doing this, and Buick is a steady "tied for second" behind Chevrolet and Pontiac for worst domestic products.
Could it be you're dumbfounded because in your line of work you are only exposed to the negative aspects of owning a Hyundai? What about the hundreds of thousands of Hyundai owners who are perfectly happy with their car? Have you ever talked with any of them to find out why they like their Hyundai? Don't they have a say?
Hyundai is apparently doing something right, as sales continue to climb. If the majority of Hyundais sold were lemons, word of mouth would spread and Hyundai vehicle sales would tank. That's not the case, and your reaction to the results of the CR survey (or ANY survey praising Hyundai) seems to confirm that you are not getting the entire picture.
they are the minority...
;-)
survey=warranty
they have a higher annual warranty expense than honda, toyota, and nissan combined.
if the warranty was 3/36 like the rest of the industry, they wouldnt sell jack diddly.
I don't hate Hyundai. I don't hate anything, for that matter. What I DO know is that Hyundai and Kia are the ONLY manufacturers of vehicles sold in the US that have their own lanes and days at major auctions for lemon law buybacks - manufacturer repurchases. Given the relatively small number of these vehicles produced, compared to the numbers seen with Ford, GM, DCC, Honda and Toyota products, and none of these other manufacturers have their own lanes and sale days for the garbage units...that says a lot.
Probably not to a Hyundai/Kia owner who has been lucky enough to have a relatively trouble-free vehicle, but to the pros who hold the checkbooks for themselves or their dealer group owners, it says measures.
I still have 2003-2004 H/K cases rolling in steadily, with even a 2005 case last week. Make those cases stop coming in with as many numbers as every division of GM combined, and I'll go buy one of these products.
Until then, forget it - it's not good business.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
How are you doing? I am looking at a 2002 BMW M3 "SMG" coupe, and it is located in North Jersey. The car has the SMG Trans, NAV, Heated Seats, Xenon, Sport Package, etc, all the goodies you could ask for, and it is CPO'd until 2008 or 100k miles. The vehicle has 31k miles, and it is Steel Grey over Black leather. I am purchasing this vehicle from a dealer and would like to know what it is worth on a wholesale basis, and offer him a fair profit. Paint is original and car appears to be very sharp. Thanks
If it's super nice and super clean, then the dealer probably paid in and around the $32/33ish range for it, add a this and a that, drop the CPO in there and it probably hits the table at in and around the $34/$35ish range .... these things don't come cheap, I would think $37/$38ish might get it home, maybe ...... whats he asking..?
Terry.

Hey Sonny .... actually your in pretty good shape with being only $1,500ish in the bucket, so you need to "appreciate" your situation, cuz' most folks today owe $20 grand on $14,000 vehicles - and that ain't a good thing .. of course they can always blame the dealers ~ "they held me down, they forced M&M's up my nose, they wouldn't let me use a phone" and my personal favorite: "they threw my keys on the roof of the building" .. 21 years this month in the business, 200 Tent Sales, been to stores from coast to coast, been to 100 dealer meetings and met a bunch of folks in-between -- an Urban Legend ......
Anyway ..........
03/04/2005 MANHEIM $ 14,900 8,330 X PEWTER 6G NE
02/22/2005 BUTLER $ 16,700 10,993 X BLACK 6G 5 X NE
03/04/2005 MANHEIM $ 15,800 10,999 X BLACK 6G 5 X NE
02/09/2005 NADE $ 15,100 12,731 X RED 6G NE
02/07/2005 AMERICAN $ 15,100 12,796 X RED/PR4 6G 5 X NE
====================
Auction reports are kinda like a TV Guide, ya gotta know how to read them and they change from week to week, also some auction see bigger $$ than others, so they are "no counters" ..... and remember, your not standing in the lanes lookin' at the vehicles ................
Good luck and let me know ....
Terry.

Good description .. thanks ..
**Includes a snow plow and salt spreader** ..... thats nice, what the heck do I know about snow plows and salt spreaders ..? it sounds like a Columbian hooker to me ....
Reg cab, right.? The Do Je' is a 3/4 ton HD 4x4, we have looow miles on this dude, we have the Big motor, tall gear, auto, SLT, new stoppers, needs rubber, good color anywhere, tow pack, all in all it sounds like it might be a nice truck .... you know the deal by now, no rust, no I backed into the Church building at the social 2 years ago and never fixed it, no Bonnie and Clyde interior, no the last time I was cleaned was 96 ...
This one is kind of a freak, super low miles, 4x4, no click, probably sits 8 months of the year, maybe garaged, it's also in a yankee snow area .. it could be super right or it might be lookin' and drivin' like a 100k vehicle, I'm trying to "see" it in my mind ... if it's nice one, lookin' and feelin' like a 00 with short miles, then were talkin' the mid/high $5's low low low $6's, trade side .. if it's a ruff low miler and it runs like an old 58 Ford then were talkin' the $3/$4 range ..... me personally, down Retail Rd it would go: the Sultan of service, the Baron of Boots, the Admiral of Ad's, $8,900 *asking* and kick it loose for $7,9/$8,5, properly done it might last about 37 minutes .... if it's ruff and it needs stuff, then just trade it ..
You got my interest on this one, so let me know .....
PS: did you book this out via Nada .. what were they smokin'..?

Internet manager was asking = $33,990, although the website says $35,990.00.
I offered a lower price for this lease return and was told to forget negotiating by the internet manager. Then I received an email from him saying he'd give it to me for $33,290. Realistically, I'd rather pay $31,000 at most to feel good about it.
Any pointers on how to get them down a little before this bad boy is nabbed by someone else who sees the low mileage? I've talked to a floor salesperson on the phone and she said to come up and make an offer. I'm thinking I can get further with someone in person, rather than the email guy.
Thanks, Terry!

Even though this car has amazingly low miles, it is still an '01 model, and even with the CPO to 100K miles, it only has 2 years of warranty left.
Even though this model is incredibly popular, and the miles are low... I think you should be under $30K on it..
I'd rather have an '02 or '03 with 30K-40K miles, and have 3-4 years of warranty left.. I'd think you could find one of those for $32K-$35K, and would be much better off...

Thanks for your input. The condition is excellent, and I believe this vehicle is an end of lease return. No previous paintwork on the car; and according to the dealer, "it's a real one". He told me he's looking to get $38,750-and that it's non negotiable. The car has everything I need (SMG, NAV) and the color I want (Steel Grey/Black) with the CPO, so it sounds like I can't go wrong....right? Let me know. Thanks
I wouldn't buy one but it was much nicer than I expected.
My house keeper bought a 1996 Hyundai Accent in '97. The car was an ex-rental with 40,000 miles. At the time, I couldn't believe she would buy such a high mileage car.
She is still driving it and has had very little trouble. I think she has a little over 80,000 miles on it now. It has been very reliable for her.
My Mom drove a 1999 Buick LeSabre (Dad totaled it out last year) and it was very reliable with no problems. I guess sometimes you get a good one and then other times you don't
Mark
I think I posted a reply before on this saying that I bought a 2 y.o. 528i E39 with about the same miles for $34K (CPO, PP, CD, but no SPP).
Yeah, I know this is a 530i, but it's 4 years old! For a 540i, this would be a good deal (I think).
As to *how to get them down a little*, that can be really tough at a BMW dealer. A lot of them ask $5K over retail for used BMW's, & won't budge, at least in my area. Try to wait them out, & maybe go in there the last day of the month.........get a $$ # from Terry first........
Enjoy ...

..**Then I received an email from him saying he'd give it to me for $33,290. Realistically, I'd rather pay $31,000 at most to feel good about it** ...
$33,290 ....?!?
Lets take a look see ... 01 530i, tiny little miles, CPO, auto thing, right color anywhere and the prem/sport pack ....
If ~ we don't have any paint by numbers, deep round things, straight service, just a real nice low miler thats been tucked away in Grandma's garage and not in someones body shop ... then the dealer probably paid in and around the super tall $22's low/mid $23's, might have lost his friggin' mind and waddled towards the $24 figure, maybe - "that's LCM" (Left Coast Money) .... add a little this, add a little that, drop the CPO in there and it might hit the table at the $25,5 zipcode, Maybe.! ...
$33,290 ...? .. did you notice any funny little cigarettes in the ashtrays.?
It's got all the stuff and it has baby miles, But it's a $28/$29ish vehicle on the Retail side, $30 would be ~ALL~ the money on the planet - no matter what the books say .... I just dropped the twin to it in Baltimore with 19k, triple black and it's a "baby doll" ~ and that included the transport ......
$33,290 ...? .. ok, I have this property just south of the Everglades and ....................

Are you George W's neighbor ..?
Well .. we have an 02 Focus HB ZX3, we have the auto thing, we have some tall miles, color is good, slider, power pack, and you think it's kinda groovy with 76,000 (sneeze) low (cough) miles, rubber is pretty good and the stoppers are from yesterday .... trade side, in and around the super tall $3's low/mid $4's - if you been going to church every Sunday, never missed Mothers Day, never cheated on your taxes, always flushed, then you might maybe "could" see the low low low low low low $5's - Maybe ....
Good luck, thanks for stopping by and let me know what happens ........
Terry.
No paint problems, no accidents, no beltway sniper shots, no problems with the 4wd, and a very clean interior. No reason for the lowball offer other than just not wanting to get involved for whatever reason.
I did not go to the NADA, And the vehicle is too old to make an appearance in the Black Book.
The caretaker of the facility wants to purchase the vehicle. I want to offer him a fair price. The truck is fully depreciated on my book but I don't want to give it away. And the big guy whose signature I need to dispose of the vehicle likes your opinions on the value of the vehicle since they are so close to what we usually get for the vehicle.
Personally, if I needed a truck, I would be doing a one-way to Provo and buy it myself.
Thanks for your help.
Hopefully, this is my only vehicle sale this year!
It all depends on the vehicle and the dealer .. some dealers don't or won't waste their time with hi mileage vehicles, especially if they are 5/6 years old - that doesn't make them good and it doesn't make them bad, it's just the way they are structured .. I think your right, they just didn't want the vehicle .. shop around or send it down Retail Rd ~ me, I would take the latter ............
Terry.
You don't mean: "THE" big Guy do you.? ...
Terry
Just wanted to let you know that the car sold within 2 weeks of being on autotrader.com.
I took your advice and took the first $15K to come along. Probably could have got a bit more but didn't want to be that patient. Thanks a ton for the help!
Kris
Dealer offered $4800 on the Focus, I asked him for $400 more, we settled at $5000, this was on a near invoice deal for a popular Honda model.
Total time from arriving at dealership to having a deal was 20 minutes. You hit this one right on the numbers.. Thanks Again.
PS: Bethaney hasn't returned my calls.
"So what are you saying, this is a repost.?
It really doesn't count until it's a repost of a repost of a repost and printed on Thursdays between 2:30pm and 2:37pm and the barometric pressure in Costa Rica is above 88% ... but since I'm here ..
In the land of the Chargers .. hey, since you live in San Diego can you get me a date with Bethany from the Charger Girls .. see, I have this coupon book from Mcdonalds ..........
We have a 03 Element 2wd EX with loooow miles at 18k, color is semi-good for the area .. sooo, if we haven't been going to the $2 Swirlomatic car washes, you haven't been parking next to the guy with the big 2dr, no curb burners, serviced and nice ... then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $13's, maybe could see a dealer drop the low low low low low $14's in it, maybe .......... auto..? 01 Zee Tea S, good color, side balloons, 50k, sounds and smells like the mid/tall $4's -- auto ..?"

2.0 L Turbo (185 Hp)
FWD
42000
Black/Tan
Leather, Sunroof, CD, bun warmers

The private party price is asking 15500. I want to know what it is really work. KBB and Edmunds put it at 12K, which seems low.
Suburbs of DC
2002 Camry LE
4dr sedan
2.4 L w/Auto
FWD
17200 Miles
Beige or gold (sand?) with beige cloth interior
Only options are Keyless entry and Auto. (Base LE was well equiped).
Condition:
Orig everything. probably 1/2 tire and break wear. 6 more months of new warauntee.
Some scrapes and one dent. Estimate to repair the dent: $800. Hail damage: $400, plus scrapes on the bumpers. DC garages are not nice on cars.
My thinking is that if I fix everything up, put an add in the paper, ask 13500. Or, sell it as is for 11-12K to someone with a long comute that want good econimical transportation and does not care about the appearance. (I know someone in that boat).
Thank you guys for the input. The thing about here is that BMW's are common, the demand is high, people are willing to fork out. I just don't think I can get them down. BUT, I am going to do my best and probably wait until the end of the month, like you suggest, and if it's still there...negotiate I will! I'll keep you updated...
