Alrighty then .... in Chi-town, we have a 00 Audi A6 2.7 Quattro with (GULP.!) almost 100,000 miles (not off to a good start) good color for the area, auto, big miles, Nav, big miles, good condition, big miles, new sneakers and stoppers, big miles ...

A good friend of recently had her Ford Focus in a bad accident. The car ended up rolling and has what sounds to be significant engine damage, crushed doors, and a badly damaged roof. Miraculously, the driver of the car emerged perfectly ok. Thank God for safety cages! :-)

Terry, welcome back! Pura vida! -------------- It's a 02 LX, we got the auto thing, 55k, slider, power pack, tunes, sneakers and the stoppers are ok, we have a good color for the area and hopefully cold breeze ..... these little Protege's still do some money, you know the deal, if it's nice, blah blah blah .. trade side, in and around the mid/tall $5's, might maybe get a dealer to wander towards the low low low low low low $6's, maybe .. but the miles will probably hold this one back
------------------
A few weeks ago, you gave me this info on my daughter's 02 Protege....and My wife decided she wanted to drive my 03 Highlander, rather than her 03 Camry SE...so...we worked a deal with my daughter so she is now driving the 03 Camry, and we traded in her Pro on a new Highlander Limited. We got $5800 for the Pro vs invoice minus $750 rebate on the Highlander...Everyone's happy! I get the new Highlander, my wife gets our 03 Highlander, and my daughter gets a very nice 03 Camry SE!
Thanks for the info, Terry. Consider the ego parked. ;-)
One more question: Will it matter if I trade/sell the car before the magic "100K" comes up on the clock? Part of me thinks that's a mental barrier for about everyone....
Hope you had a nice vacation - I'm honored to have been one of your first responses after your return - really.
...... Thanks for the update and the welcome back ...
Sounds like everyone did well on that deal .. you got all the money on the Protege', the dealer coughed-up the Highlander for pennies on the dollar, and most important the ladies are happy ..... all is well in the world.!
2000 Mercury Villager Estate 81,200 miles the color is "fern" or something; light green metallic
Quad leather seats, no roof, no CD, alloys well shod No signs of frame repair, fenders haven't been off, beyond that, who knows. It was dark. The engine looks like the oil was changed (unlike the 99 on the same lot, ugh). Clean car fax, registered to one owner in OH.
At a small car lot here in town; I happen to know he bought it at Metro yesterday for $6 even. Off-lease from BankUSA or something. Off-lease with 81k???
Anyway, if you'll leave your merchandise unlocked, you should probably not leave the auction paperwork on the floorboards. I'm only human, especially when checking out a car...
Probably trading the car tomorrow...2004 Saturn Ion Redline, black, 6100 miles, new sneakers (upgraded) - came stock with the high Saturn Motorsports wing, XM stereo, upgraded sound system, and sunroof.
Trading in Pittsburgh - NADA doesn't have numbers, KBB and Galves doesn't know it exists - Saturn guy say $16k trade, was hoping for better - any ideas on this one? ============================
Didn't catch it til' I was off the boards .....
$16.?!? ..
Bud, if they can "really" give you $16 large, then you need to be there Today, not Tomorrow ... they either don't know what they have, or they dropped their crack pipe in the sink .. they're only doing the ultra tall $12's, and low/mid $13's on a good day at the auctions with tiny miles and original MSRP's of $22ish ..... for further reference ~ black book "average" plus $800, plus the low miles ..
$16.?? ... don't waste your time reading this - Be There.!
but the Redline and the Ion 3 aren't even the same animal. Not even close - it's not just some wheel and tire package on a base Ion...
The Saturn sales manager has thrown out the idea of booking it out as an Ion 3 and adding a few bucks - the same guide also says to drop $600 for it being a manual - it's a freaking aluminum Getrag F35, a $3900 transmission, and the Redline only comes with a manual...just for further confusion...
..... **you should probably not leave the auction paperwork on the floorboards** ...
Stupid people do stupid things .l.o.l..
Yep, I have it right in front of me .. paid $6,0 dead even, figure $150ish auction fee, $150ish transport (unless he drove it back himself) .. probably sitting at $6,3ish at the desk .... a quick turn and burn, $6,9ish ..
I buy a lot of these Villagers/Quests and they're still real popular and get some $$, even with 81k .. so he paid the "right" money at $6,0 ... a 40ker with all the stuff will do $8,5ish all day long ...
..... Oh, I'm very familiar with the vehicle .. no deduct for the handshaker (as of now) thats why the Redlines are doing the tall $12's low $13's, thats "out of the book" money ..... I would be sleeping at his door tonight .l.o.l...

I am considering "upgrading" my TSX to a used TL, so am curious of trade-in on my TSX and what reasonable retail would be on the TL:
My TSX:
In Denver, 2004 TSX Silver (the bluish silver), non-nav, 6 speed 20,000 miles In very good condition, as expected for this new of a car. One exception - I had a minor run-in with the side of my garage (felt pretty stupid about that one!) which left a dent in the front fender - repaired at a dent repair place. It's a very good repair, but, nevertheless, not perfect.
Considering trading for:
2004 TL Anthracite gray, non-nav, 6 speed 19,300 miles Looks in very good condition - one ding on the side and some indentations on the rear seat obviously from a car seat, but nothing that I wouldn't be doing myself anyway. Their obviously inflated asking price is $32,998. It's not an Acura dealer, so it's not certified.
Welcome back! This is a repost of a message posted last week.
We are going to be trading my wife's 1999 GTP in on a TSX. White, leather, Bose, moonroof, tires in very good shape. Approximately 83,400 miles. Non-smoker, live in the Cincinnati area. Edmunds has this trade value at somewhere between $4400 and $5300. My first offer from an out of town dealer was $2000 - $2500. Which range is more accurate? Help!!! And thanks!
Welcome back! Just wanted to update you on my Altima. I had the bad bodywork redone, much better on the second go-round, after you last gave me figures on it (~6 months ago), but I thought I would add the trade-in value to the collective pool of knowledge:
2002 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Automatic, 55,000 miles Louisville, KY Standard equipment (A/C, defroster, power windows, locks, mirrors, remote alarm, etc.) Alloy wheels ABS and side balloons Trip computer and leather wrapped wheel Cloth seats, no sunroof New Michelin rubber, new front stoppers, fresh oil change Two keys, two remotes, cargo nets still in the trunk. Cleaned it up very nicely for the appraisals (come-to-Jesus detail). Nothing would make it look perfect, but at least it looked clean. $1200 repair to the right side, $500 rear bumper replacement.
CarMax appraised it in "good" condition (consistent with its age) and offered to buy it for $10,400. Sam Swope appraised it at an ACV of $11,000. They cut me a check for the $11,000.
**A good friend of recently had her Ford Focus in a bad accident. The car ended up rolling and has what sounds to be significant engine damage, crushed doors, and a badly damaged roof. Miraculously, the driver of the car emerged perfectly ok. Thank God for safety cages! :-)** ================================
Doesn't sound good, but he walked away .. I'm a firm believer of safety gages, airbags, abs and side balloons .. just ask any Trauma Dr ....... before the accident, in and around the $7,5ish range on the wholesale side ... after the accident.? Zippity-do-Dah ..
I'm guessing, his insurance company will cut him a check for the $9ish figure after they total it ...
I still have my 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible (sky blue), and the car is currently getting a complete engine overhaul. $$$$$ I also get to keep the 2000 Eldorado Convertible since my wife got a 2005 CTS as an early anniversiary present this Jan.
And I've been married (to the same girl) for 18 years. What's wrong with all you guys!?!?!?!?
Fact is, I preferred the married life (until she dedided she didn't). Then, I got a taste of life without spouse and am enjoying it as much, if not more. As dbauer says, now we can buy whatever car tickles our fancy with no backlash about our 'vettes, mustangs, 350Zs, RX8s, Elise's, etc. Matter of fact, single women prefer men in sports cars....or as "lhess" says, the only good lease is a lease on a significant other....not a purchase........
I wouldn't turn away a 67-70 corvette, but they are so overpriced and misrepresented, I won't bother. Besides I prefer Cadillacs! Ever get caught in the rain in a corvette, not a fun proposition, it's steam room city for hours - I've been there. In the Cadillac, raise the top, set the climate control on auto and you'r all set!
I hear so many sob stories, from everyone, my sisters husband included, about how they had to give up their old car or bike after they got married. My brother in law told me my sister is "wearing" his old Alfa. That's a shame!
Now my brother, he didn't let being married prevent him from getting his Harley! My sister in law is still torqued over that tho'
Austin, Texas 2004 4-cylinder base Outback wagon AWD 6200 miles Light green Auto-dimming mirror and compass, everything else standard for the base Outback Interior in perfect shape Front bumper has some paint scraping in 2 small spots, but no dents
I want to trade this in for something with 6 cylinders--shouldn't have bought the 4.
So I went and looked at the thing by daylight. My buddy Andre was real upfront about it; even though I didn't mention the auction paperwork inside the car, he told me right away he had $6 in it, and for $300 over that I could have it... that's how he operates, but he might have added the $170 auction fee... He's a really nice guy; at this rate, I'll wind up negotating a price increase to make it reasonable for him also.
He also got, for $36 even, a 2001 S500 with 29k, still under warranty. Nice.
Now the van. Under the harsh light of day, a couple things came up... there's rust starting at the inside corners of the forward doors, and one little bubble low on the outside. Nothing bad, but I'm thinking some time this year, get it done for $3-400, and that'll be it through the end of the Bush administration. Also a small scrape on the slider, no big deal, and a few scratches that I didn't see in the dark.
Aside from that, a very clean-looking van. It's a medium gray/green metallic kind of color that I happen to like.
Took the car to my mechanic for a look-see. Nice ride on the way; the drivetrain really agrees with me.
No paintwork, no body work, and certainly no frame work. Big brown stain in the second row; is this rust coming up from below? Heaven forfend.
We put it on the lift and looked it over... no, apparently just a double latte after all. Lots of little rust blooms here and there on the undercarriage; especially where the welds are. This car is from the shores of Lake Erie near Acron, OH, and it shows. Ugh. Also needs alignment; the tires have OK tread but are unevenly worn. No leaks of anything anywhere; bone dry.
It looks like it's been taken care of; everthing I tried works, and it's a very pleasant ride on and off the highway. For a decent minivan, there is really only the Nissan twins or the Sienna, and I don't see myself getting anything much better for this kind of dough. The Dodges are too wide for my garage, so are the Hondas, and the prices are outta sight for those anyway.
I'd gladly pay another $1 or so to get a model without any rust, but I don't see it happening around here. I'm leaning towards just getting this one, investing a few hundred in rust prevention before the fall, and running it for a few years. It appears to be in great shape, I happen to like it, and it'll carry 165 lbs. of canoes on the top.
I'll sleep on it and flip a coin tomorrow morning. When the coin is in the air, I usually know what I want.
Thanks for listening to the long rant. Comments welcome.
..... Had a great time, actually a wonderful time - thanks ..
Montezuma's revenge.? it's Costa Rica, not Mexico .l.o.l.. this is my 3rd tour and I recommend it to anyone .. lots of golf, ocean, mountains with volcanoes and probably one of the most beautiful rain forests on the planet .. and no, you can't hug me ..
**Oh and the Titan coughed up a rear diff a few days ago....... had it back for 6 days**
Sorry to hear that ...
You're not the only one "if" thats any help .l.o.l.. ..
I'm waiting to hear what Consumers Report and JD Powers has to say ... there is quite a few of these dudettes breakin' down and the service departments are having a field day, Nissan missed the reliabilty boat on these ...
Unfortunately, these are usually roofers/electricians/plumbers/carpenters from NY/CT/PA/MA/OH down here trying to complete roofs and all of the interior finish work due to the hurricanes from 6 months ago, so these guys are missing work (Help.!) .. and most are so flipped you can't trade em' because their resale is so bad .......... anyone driving a nice Chevy or Ford out there.?!?

$11,0 with 55k ....?? .. you got "ALL" the money, the Big enchilada, the whole Cumze Ga ... besides all that, you did good.!
...... Right miles, right color, he paid the "right" money for the Benz .. it probably would see the hard $38ish+ figure on the Left Coast .....
Gheeez, you can't argue with the price on the Villager .l.o.l... he's only making $130, I hope he doesn't have kids in college ........................
$11,400 ....? .. thats fair, Very fair .. most dealers would want to be around the $10/$10,5 zipcode .... at $11,4 they do the body work, a this and a that, and when the smoke clears they will probably have the $13ish figure in it, then try to see $15 .. not particularly the position I would want to be in, but it's sure good for you ...........
Enjoy the Forester LL, great vehicles and they're strong like Bull .....

What can I say, this dude has 85k ... whether you drive a Caddy, a Bimmer or a GTP, tall miles are not your friend ...
That said ~ "if" it's clean, deep sneakers, serviced, you haven't hit every pot-hole between Cinci and Toledo and it "shows" drives and feels like an 03 .. then trade side, it's worth in and around the mid/tall $3's low low low low $4's- maybe ...... sounds like your trading with a dealer that doesn't have a home for it, and most don't .. that means they're sending that puppy to the auction or a wholesaler will buy it and they're holding back on the trade .... you need to shop around a little, if you can see $3,5 then cut and run .... if it needs stuff, then start deducting ...
Sounds like a great deal on that Villager. I'm sure you know this, but most of the drivetrain is Nissan and I think this adds to the reliability. I looked at an 00 last fall.. not a bad van, off lease, but it didn't look like it had been maintained all that well. It was at a LM dealer in Cleveland and it had just come in so I saw it pre cleanup. The A/C didn't work (a common problem I found as I researched the van) and a couple other small problems. Anyways they fixed the AC and other problems but we couldnt come to terms on price. They wanted in the 9,s and that was that. I really liked the way it drove, very car like, almost sporty, and lots of pickup. I think it had a 3.3L V6. My wife didn't care for it much either. We ended up getting an 03 Dodge GCaravan and have been happy with it. If I could've bought an 00 Villager for 6 & change I'd have gladly done it. Good luck!

here's another one - I may still get a GTO and trade my Ion Redline, but I also have a good friend (known 18 years, served together, USAF officer, I bought two motorcycles from him, have a habit of buying his hand-me-downs when they scare him...more on that story if you want..)
Anyhoo, the guy LOVES my Ion Redline and his 1994 Mustang GT needs a water pump, so his (lawyer) wife says SELL IT! - she trades cars when they need an oil change or a wash - he wants to buy my car, and have me buy his.
Too late to make a long story short - he's looking in the books, thinking crazy money on his Mustang, I want to be fair with him, he's a friend, but it's 11 years old and has 115k -
here's the deal, please advise:
1994 Mustang GT Coupe, 5.0, 5-speed Yellow, black leather Air blows cold, new sneaks, old school '90s billet wheels (16s), body is great, just a few rock nicks, interior is good, just the normal leather wear and wrinkles.
115-120k miles, engine's in good tune, no smokie-smokie..
The water pump is chirping, but I'll fix that for $50 in parts, a 6-pk of Coors Light, and 2 hours in the driveway.
What do you think I should pay for this thing?
He's in Dallas, it's a former South Carolina car (no rust).
Just left a msg for the Villager. It fits my needs for a summer vehicle, the little girl thinks it's a play house, and the missus... well, we'll deal with that when she finds out :-)
You're not the only one "if" thats any help .l.o.l.. ..****
LOL, Thanks.
Yeah I know I'm not the only one, doesn't make it any less frustrating. The dealer has a NICE F-250 sitting on his lot, I thought about seeing what it would take it trade my beast in. BUT, I really like my truck, going to send the letter to Nissan and see what they do.
I've looked at every other truck out there and can't find one I enjoy driving more than my Titan. Maybe someday it will chill out.....its got 2 months to straighten up and then its camping season! There's a brand new travel trailer in the yard for it to pull and it better do it, lol.
BTW, to stay on topic, how bad have these things tanked in the past couple months?
Mine is a 2004 Titan CC LE 4x4, leather, butt warmers, power everything, memory seats, all the LE goodies that come with them. Only option is the big tow pkg, NO nav, dvd, offroad or anything like that. Its white/dark grey with a meer 5900 (I think) miles on it.
2004 Mazda6 Sedan V6, 5sp manual 22,000 miles white with tan leather sunroof, appearance package looks almost new, no damage
looking to trade:
1998 Nissan Pathfinder XE 2WD, V6 automatic 115K miles maroon with tan cloth offroad package, alloys, cd/cassette, alarm, roof rack You could mistake it for a 2000 with 70K (a couple little dings on the outside, interior is clean, shows a little wear). New tires, well maintained, no prior paintwork
Ahhhh...Costa Rica....2nd favorite place on earth....beautiful and the people there love us "amuhricans". 2nd only to Maui (not everyone loves us "mainlanders" there, though).
Terry, what carmax said about my camry was that they could fix the body damage (minor), but could not fix high miles (my camry only had 17K). I think they will fix it and try to sell it for 15K to 16K. In a couple of weeks, I will start monitoring the Carmax web site for the camry, and will let you know what they are asking.
And so far, I love the LL Bean Forester. I upgraded the audio to include the tweeters and woofer, and it sounds great. And I think I got a reasonable price of 23800 + tax tags...(maybe could have done better, but the hassle factor was low, and the dealer is at a convient location where I go by at least 10 times per week).

How would you know.? .. you only get to drive it part-time ..l.o.l.... 5900 miles, remember.?
Anywho ... because of the little bitty miles it's probably worth the $23ish figure, of course if you trade to the same dealer he will probably drop the $19ish figure into it because of the "glorious history" ...............
What was your pay-off.? .. like $33ish.?? ........ babe, you have a firm grip ..

What should it go for?
TIA

Trading in Pittsburgh - NADA doesn't have numbers, KBB and Galves doesn't know it exists - Saturn guy say $16k trade, was hoping for better - any ideas on this one?
============================
Terry.
And yes, I'll be there tomorrow...buying a GTO - CHEAP.
Terry.
But... can't there be only ONE?
Hmmmm... 2 SUVs swordfighting. Sounds like a good commercial.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

Oh and the Titan coughed up a rear diff a few days ago.......had it back for 6 days.
Good to have ya back, the board was too quiet without you.

I am considering "upgrading" my TSX to a used TL, so am curious of trade-in on my TSX and what reasonable retail would be on the TL:
My TSX:
In Denver, 2004 TSX
Silver (the bluish silver), non-nav, 6 speed
20,000 miles
In very good condition, as expected for this new of a car. One exception - I had a minor run-in with the side of my garage (felt pretty stupid about that one!) which left a dent in the front fender - repaired at a dent repair place. It's a very good repair, but, nevertheless, not perfect.
Considering trading for:
2004 TL
Anthracite gray, non-nav, 6 speed
19,300 miles
Looks in very good condition - one ding on the side and some indentations on the rear seat obviously from a car seat, but nothing that I wouldn't be doing myself anyway.
Their obviously inflated asking price is $32,998. It's not an Acura dealer, so it's not certified.
Thanks for the help.

2002 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Automatic, 55,000 miles
Louisville, KY
Standard equipment (A/C, defroster, power windows, locks, mirrors, remote alarm, etc.)
Alloy wheels
ABS and side balloons
Trip computer and leather wrapped wheel
Cloth seats, no sunroof
New Michelin rubber, new front stoppers, fresh oil change
Two keys, two remotes, cargo nets still in the trunk.
Thanks for your help!
Nathaniel

Doesn't sound good, but he walked away .. I'm a firm believer of safety gages, airbags, abs and side balloons .. just ask any Trauma Dr ....... before the accident, in and around the $7,5ish range on the wholesale side ... after the accident.? Zippity-do-Dah ..
I'm guessing, his insurance company will cut him a check for the $9ish figure after they total it ...

What's a 350Z, an old Camaro Z/28???
2004 4-cylinder base Outback wagon
AWD
6200 miles
Light green
Auto-dimming mirror and compass,
everything else standard for the base Outback
Interior in perfect shape
Front bumper has some paint scraping in 2 small spots, but no dents
I want to trade this in for something with 6 cylinders--shouldn't have bought the 4.
thats the funniest thing ive ever heard!

Congrats ... so your going to buy what now.?
Terry.
Gheeez, you can't argue with the price on the Villager .l.o.l... he's only making $130, I hope he doesn't have kids in college ........................
Terry.

We are going to be trading my wife's 1999 GTP in on a TSX. White, leather, Bose, moonroof, tires in very good shape. Approximately 83,400 miles. Non-smoker, live in the Cincinnati area.
Let me know .. updates are mandatory.!

1994 Mustang GT Coupe, 5.0, 5-speed
Yellow, black leather
Air blows cold, new sneaks, old school '90s billet wheels (16s), body is great, just a few rock nicks, interior is good, just the normal leather wear and wrinkles.
It fits my needs for a summer vehicle, the little girl thinks it's a play house, and the missus... well, we'll deal with that when she finds out :-)
Thanks y'all

2004 Mazda6 Sedan
V6, 5sp manual
22,000 miles
white with tan leather
sunroof, appearance package
looks almost new, no damage
looking to trade:
1998 Nissan Pathfinder XE
2WD, V6 automatic
115K miles
maroon with tan cloth
offroad package, alloys, cd/cassette, alarm, roof rack
You could mistake it for a 2000 with 70K (a couple little dings on the outside, interior is clean, shows a little wear).
New tires, well maintained, no prior paintwork
Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed yourself and glad you're back.
No idea what I'm buying, I want to see the Audi A3 (or, especially, some lease deals on the A3 when it comes out)...
what carmax said about my camry was that they could fix the body damage (minor), but could not fix high miles (my camry only had 17K).

============================
