What say all you experts?
Now, if you told them the car had 39K on it, I'd have a somewhat dim view of it I suppose. If they failed to ask, why volunteer it?
Bill
Hope this helps!
Bill
I think its' about a $4,000 wholesale car if its' otherwise pretty clean and the paintwork is limited to the bumpers..
Those miles, as we both know, slaughter it.
Hey, I know.. put it in the paper for $7,500/bo. Just to see what happens. You may sell it.
Bill
Who lived in Louisville for a little while.. nice town
I think that $33,500 or so is the number, but there's not a lot of them out there... A touch more if it was Pearl White (Like $1,000). Hint hint for the SC430....
Indigo doesnt help (Even though I love it), 15K is up there on an 01, but it is an RX300, which is always good, they have great resale value.
Bill
I think you ought to see about $11,500-12K or so for it. Probably closer to $11,500 methinks.
Could always retail it for $13,900/bo though!
Bill
She was not injured in the accident.
I'm gonna keep lookin around to compare and talk to a finance guy in SC that said he would help me price it too. If he agrees and I see enough evidence, I may casually start asking 10,400 and see what happens since it is so clean despite mi., but if no calls, I'll prob drop to your 9,900 and reword the add/ph# etc. and go from there. Give me some room to work...
At least I have the luxury of not being in a hurry this time around
Karz
Yup. Very doable.
Tough to say the actual dollar amts in a few years, maybe $1-2K.. but the Silver will be worth more... But get the color you like!
Bill
We may end up selling it privately - we sold my last vehicle (1992 Chevy S-10 with low mileage, manual 5 speed) for our asking price with no advertising. It was a great little truck but we needed a "family car".
Thanks again!
Can I get the trade-in value for a 99 Ford Taurus SE. I live in North Jersey, green, 48,500 miles, power driver seat, alloy wheels. abs brakes. At 42,000 miles we did new brakes, new tires and a tune-up.
Thank you,
Denise
If its' Nice, and clean (No damage history..etc..) I think that $16,000-16,500 seems to be the Market on them at the moment.
Private sale? $18,900/BO it.
The miles and current market conditions arent helping I'm afraid...
Bill
It helps
Assuming 15K miles, I'd say Wholesale $10,500 so figure retail in the $12,900/bo Area.
Hope this helps!
Bill
Still, I think somewhere around $17K is wholesale, but even with the miles, I bet if you put it in the paper for $19,900 it'll sell...
Bill
If its' clean, figure $7,500-8K is about what they seem to be running at auction with 48-50K or so on them.
So, that's wholesale, Put it in the Bergen Record? $9,950/bo
Hope this helps!

Sorry to be thge bad guy here
But try selling it yourself. I think that percentagewise it pays with that car.
Now, if you have a 2000 Mercedes S500 worth $65-70K and you can get another $4,000? No. At 6% Tax you make out the same with a trade-in credit.
But $2K-3K... Put it in the paper. I think its' VERY much worth the effort when you have a car you can sell for under $10K.
Bill
Now if I had the financial capability to own a 2000 Mercedes S500 worth 65K - I wouldn't be worrying about an extra 3-4K!
Seriously though, it looks like a private sell is the way to go. It is a great family car and has definitely proven itself to be a safe car.
Thanks for all your input.
Ps. Do you guy know the value of a mint condition black 1978 chevy nova.
Most new car dealers won't want a car that old and will put a next-to-nothing number on it since they'll have to wholesale it. Better off putting the car in front of an audience that wants a car like that.
Here's a sad one (sorta): My neighbor had a '87 Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe. It was one of those limited edition cars with a special fastback design created for NASCAR homologation. He was the original owner. Anyway, over the years he just drove it and did the basics to keep it going but certainly didn't baby it. It looked like a car with 80K and 14 years on it. But it was complete and solid and original.
He was having tranny problems and had a hack joint throw in a rebuilt unit. The install caused other problems and he started losing his patience with it. For awhile he just parked it outside his apt. and didn't touch it. Last week he tried to get it running, got ticked off at it (again) and sold it to a buddy for $500.
This was not a bad car, just needed some TLC. Heck, I could have sold the body for $500. To the right buyer it was worth maybe $2000-2500. But $500? Man, I just hate seeing someone leave 2 grand on the table. What a shame......
The dealer says he will drop ca. 3K off list, to a final price of $31,650 on a brand spanking new '01. He has a large volume and needs to move these puppies off his lot.
What do you think of this price ? Should I wait till September when the '02 are due in before trying for an '01 ?
Truly appreciate your help on this... and many thanks for a great job you are doing on this forum.
What should I ask for this thing in the So Cal market (to sell myself - not trading)?
HiC
Oac: Check TMV and the IS Boards, Methinks some have done better...
Crank: 12 weeks or so, depending on the time of the year. I would avoid a Base XC tho, you canget badly hurt on resale. An XC has to have leather, roof, CD, power seat at a bare minimum and must also have Cold Weather pkg in the northeast. Otherwise, 3 years down the road, you will lose every penny you saved and then some. Also, Ash Gold, Moondust, Mystic Silver are all good colors for resale.
Hope this helps!
Bill
$4K sounds OK to me, and put the stock wheels back on it methinks..
Bill
Also have been to several dealers I'm consdering doing business with and have been offered $14K and 14.5K though would hope Volvo would offer mor eif I can convince myself the S60 is a good car! Car Max offered $13K - what a joke!
Car is in very good condition, dealer maintained since purchase.
Thanks!
2001 VW Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. 1.8t, 5-speed. Metallic blue exterior, black interior. OEM CD-changer, Monsoon system, cold weather pkg, sport suspension, power moonroof, BBS 16" wheels, 8,500 miles. Paint is perfect. No mechanical problems. Trade-in value?
I'm curious about a couple of things regarding this vehicle--how much does a new design affect the old design's value? Did we price ourselves out of the Rav market by tricking the vehicle out with dealer installed goodies (we wanted them and were extremely happy with the results)?
We have the car at a local weekend Auto Fair this weekend and I thought for sure we'd be getting calls on it. Not a one. It was in the paper for 2 weeks and not one call. I've had interest from people who've seen the vehicle first hand, but no one is calling for a test drive. It's been advertised in differing ways for about a month.
The car can be seen at AutoFairOnline
in the SUV section of Santa Clarita.
I'd appreciate feedback on how to sell this car without giving it away.
What is considered fair depreciation for a perfect Toyota that has been given kid glove treatment? KBB suggest a fair price between private owners is $18,750. Everything is in place for this deal to happen, yet no one is calling. TIA for advice.
NADA,Edmunda and KBB all differ.Perhaps BrentwoodVolvo could comment.
I dunno to be honest. My guess is, from what I hear, $1,000 or so over invoice ought to be doable. I'd go to the IS thread and scroll to the end then up 20 messages to get the newer ones or maybe ask who paeople are paying in San Diego. Why not offer the dealer $30,500 (Which, in reality, is probably about $1,000 over invoice.. most Lexuses have 1.5% LDA advertising asessed to them) and let them know that you'll buy it then and there for that price.
Certainly can't hurt to try. Southern Cali is supposed to be a really competitive market and all.
Bill
There doesn't seem to be a shortage of them at auctions in the Southwest with similar miles..
A clean one with 27K is worth $15,500-16K or so it seems. Figure if it has a few dings..stone ships..etc.. I think that $15,000-15,500 ought to be your range.
No, do NOT repaint the hood. If I were appraising the car it might make me a bit put off onthe car. Paintwork generally hurts a cars' value. Besides, wont net you any more money I don't think.
Hope this helps!
Bill
They're sensitive to color and the region of the country that you're in (Seem to be worth more in the Southeast... RWD car that, much as I like them, is terrible in the snow)
CarMax seems to be calimng down a tad on some of their appraisals.
Hope this helps!
Bill
So figure $9K-9,500 private sale, but it is the summer... Try $10,500 and see what happens.
I hope you're not in the Southeast tho... No AC in Florida can be a very bad thing. :O
As far as the Jetta goes... I'm guessing $17K or so... Generally about $2,500-3K or so back of original invoice on a current year car...Depends on the market conditions on new ones. You may want to shop it locally IMO.
Bill
Well, I'm gonna be the bad guy here. Problem is, those acessories, while Im sure look really nice, just don't add much to it 2 years down the road valuewise. You did sort of "overspec" the car as you said I'm afraid. What these options/acessories do enhance, however, is the marketability of the vehicle. As you said, you're now priced out of the RAV4 Market.
What happens is, people looking for RAV4s just aren't looking for vehicles with leather, moonroof, etc.. That's not the RAV4 Buyer.
So what happens is, these options just don't residualize. Much like Roadster tops, chrome wheels, fancy grilles, etc on Lincolns and Caddies, Wire Wheels on Jaguars ($3,000 easily) and the like.
So, to me, its' a 99 RAV4L with 21K miles (I assumed.. you said 15K left on factory warranty) and I assume its' a 4-door. I also assume that its' clean and not in a wacky color like Brown.
So, I think that $14K is wholesale based on what they are doing at auction. Maybe a bit more ($500) but thats' about it I'm afriad.
Private sale? Obviously you, like any seller, want to sell it for as much as possible. I think that fair retail is about $16,500-17K.. somewhere in that range. KBB retail is generally a good deal for the seller, not the buyer. Quite simply, paying KBB retail for a used car is akin, in my experience, to paying MSRP for a Taurus. Bad idea. If you can get it, great! But, it is really the stratosphere of the market...
Hope this helps, even if I'm being the bad guy
Bill
If its' clean and in a good color, generally $23-24Kish... but there are some real variables out there...
Bill
We're getting itchy for the RX, so we may just have to down a large loss of equity in the vehicle.
Thank you so much for your feedback here, Mr. brentwoodvolvo.
You make talking cars fun.
Regards.
On the RX: Pearl White/Ivory has the best resale value while we're at it. Leather, Moonroof and CD are MUST haves. Navigation has virtually $0 resale value.
Glad to be of help!
Bill
I am looking to possibly sell the Jetta. Would a VW dealer do just a buy on a used car? Who would I talk with, the used car mgr or a salesperson?
Wholesale ought to be $13,500-14,000 or so, retail about $16Kish
Bill
