...but the mileage scares her.
78k on a Nissan is just getting broken in, but it sounds like she's been bitten by the car-buying bug.
I've heard of the golden bear ... golden cow.?

================================
Mornin' Nobee ... don't you live close to Dr. Frazier Crane.?
In Seattle .. we have an 04 Volvo XC70 with 12,000 tiny miles, the color is good anywhere, it's got all the right options, cold pack, leather, slider, back-up beep beep etc ....
If it's a nice one - "clean", no Maaco makeover's, no battles at Burger King, as close to showroom as possible ... then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $25's, "maybe" might see the low/mid $26's ... these XC's get some pretty hefty money, especially out your way .. so don't forget the update.
Terry.
It's cheap money, even with the door fixed .... they're doing $45,0+ at the auctions with tiny miles and the dealers line up for em' ....
16,000 miles.? .. it would make me a little hinky on a 10 year old vehicle, but being 2/3 years old, and being in a moderate climate means they drove to store to get Fruit Loops for breakfast .... the only problem with these are, they start breakin' down at around 180/200k and then you hafta find a replacement - whatta pain ...
Terry
I'm looking into a new 2005 Tribute (probably V6). Anything I should know about like upcoming better deals in the new future? I have the following for trade in and was wondering what range I should ask for on these two.
Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas
2002 Mazda 4dr Tribute ES
3.0 V6 Auto
FWD
52,700 miles
Black exterior with grey leather interior
alloys, sun roof, towing packing, wood grain interior trim
Interior and exterior are clean with minor dings and scratches. No claims or repaints, etc.
Tires need to be replaced soon.
-----------------------------------
Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas
2003 4dr Mazda 6s sedan
3.0 6cyl 5M
FWD
26,400 miles
White exterior with grey cloth interior
base package with side airbags (no sports package)
Interior and exterior are clean with minor dings and scratches. 1 claim pending for small dent on driver door smaller than the size of a fingernail.
Also, should I get the dent fixed (about $300 - $500) or trade it in as is?
Thanks,
Fabian...
===================================
Fabian ..? .. your not "thee" Fabian are you.?
Better deals.? .. incentives and rebates will be going on all summer .. that said, will the color and option choices be there in 40/60 days.? .. it's not like the ol' days when dealers had tons of inventory in October ..l.o.l...
The 03 ES Tribute is an 2wd .. no 4x4, 53k, the color is no help in Dallas, we have the slider, some auto action and we can see the air in the tires .. trade side, in and around the tall $12's, maybe the low low low low $13's ....... the 03 "6" is low in miles, we got that meat clever thing going on, good color for the area, side balloons and we have a $500 kiss .... sounds like the super high $11's, maybe the low low $12's on a good day .. the meat clever and the paint work are not your friends, the only help your getting is the color and the miles .... don't bother to get it fixed ..
Don't forget to let me know .......
Terry.
2000 Nissan Maxima GLE
58000 miles
Silver Exterior / Black Leather
Automatic, Sun Roof, Traction Control, Bose Sound, Heated Seats
Condition:
Interior - Very Good, Leather in great shape, carpets are clean
Exterior - No Dents, A Few Scratches but overall clean paint for its age
New Brakes all around
Needs 2 new tires, all other routine maintenance is up to date
I am looking for trade-in, and retail road as well.
Thanks for the help !
I know these cars are a dime a dozen, but I bought it brand new for my wife, she drove it very little every year, and now she has a new truck. I suspect you'll tell me to go retail road, but here's the details:
Austin, Texas...
1998 Ford Mustang GT
handshaker
49K miles (yep, that's all)
Red fire (the dark red, not the fire engine red)
tan leather interior, no tears or rips
good rubber
not a mark on it, never hit, always garaged
What's it worth to a dealer, versus retail? Thanks in advance!!!
She's wanting a Solara. I've found an 2004 SLE V6 Coupe in Red with 10k miles, all the goodies, plus Nav down here in the great state of Texas..... looks to be pretty much "in the wrapper." What would this unit clear the auction for?
===============================
Is this a repost.? .. or is this a repost of a repost of a repost.?
hmm I will have to ponder this, to post or not to post, that is the question ......
.................. okay, I'm done pondering ..
04 SLE V6 in Texas .... the miles are low and the color is a quick sale and it's got the "I'm lost" function .... you know the deal, perfect history, perfect paint (well almost) and no drive by shootings ..... trade, auction bought.? .. it's kind of hard to put a "real" number on these, they're all over the place with super Strong numbers ... dealer probably paid the mid/tall $17's and after a this and a that it might hit the table in the low/mid $18's, maybe more if it's puuuuurfect ..... these are very popular, I'm going to "think" it's going to take at least the low $21ish figure to get it home ..... I've seen the twin to this one do the $19's at the auctions .. that's some pretty strong jingle .......
Let me know what happens .......
Terry.
So, thanks all for the help. I hate to see her make a "mistake" and get taken....But "it's none of my business" as I was told, so....!

The 2.5 adds the following equipment over the Value Edition Jetta:
6-disc in-dash changer
Heated front seats
Auto climate control
Stability control
Multifunction trip computer
Leatherette seats
Stability control is available as a standalone option on the Value Edition, the rest of the stuff is not.
MSRP is $19590 for a VE automatic without stability control, $19870 with stability control. It's a fairly new model, but I think Edmunds' TMV on them is high--I don't think the demand for Jettas is as high as it once was.
I am new to this topic but have been daily reader in most of the other forum topics.
We are looking for some advice in a recent mistake we made in buying our last car.
At the time we were looking at getting either a Honda Civic or an Accord...we messed around a little and kick some tires and decided to get the Civic. We now however think we made the wrong choice in car. I know....I know...people are going to read this and say what a dumb [non-permissible content removed]! But now that we have this cleared up, we were wondering what type of deal we could get on this trade....your not going to believe this...but here it goes...
2005 Honda Civic EX Special Edition 4 Door Automatic
Tango Red (We live in Tampa, FL by the way)
Actual Mileage: 275 miles (wow!)
Showroom Condition...(in fact it might be cleaner now than when I took delivery!)
If you could please give us any info on possible trade in numbers that would be great (assuming you have stopped shaking your head and laughing
I know...I know...(what a dumb [non-permissible content removed]!)
We would like to think that we are not the only ones that have made a mistake like this...but maybe we are the only ones that would admit to it.
Thanks oh mighty car guy for your help!!!!!
Your advice could save my marriage (Just kiddin' but the couch is getting old)

2000 BMW 323Ci (coupe)
5-speed manual
45,000 miles
Dark gray over gray leather
Sports package
Premium Package
Roof, 17" wheels, ABS, side airbags, CD,
Located in Atlanta, GA
Very clean for a 5 year old car.
What is a fair price for this car?
Could use some numbers on the wife's current ride as she wants a new '05 Jetta 2.5 or the Mazda6 i.
Here are the details on the Alty:
Ft. Lauderdale
78,000 miles
Titanium Frost
Power seat, cd player, special badging, upped the 205/60/15 tires to 205/65/15 and the car drives so much better. Might need 1 new tire as it has about 50% tread left
Nice inside except the mats have seen better days
2 key scratches on hood thanks to some idiots in the mall parking lot
Someone hit and ran and broke the passenger side power mirror. Still the black color, as we've not had it painted yet
It's really a nice car, drives well, arctic a/c after fixing a small $30. part last saturday. She loves it, but the mileage scares her. Am looking for about $6k on a private sale.
The VW dealer offered us $18,999 plus T,T & L for the 2.5 automatic and the Mazda guy really wants to deal, as there's a $1500. rebate right now and I just printed an extra $500. rebate from Mazda for the test drive this weekend... so $2k rebate.
The VW is more elegant and classy, but the Mazda means less $ out of our pocket ...I think she really wants the Jetta though. Help?
TIA as always and let's all pray for a quite hurricane season for us Floridians... had enough last year!

===================================
They're thinkin' 15 on the docket for this year ... yea, I can hardly wait ...
In Hurricane alley we have a 01 Altima GXE LE ... the color is right, the miles are wrong, we have the power seat, cold breeze, tunes and probably "around" $300 of fix-me-up ...... 78k ain't nothing on a Altima (properly serviced) it's probably worth around the tall $4's low $5's on a trade .... Retail Rd.? .. you know the drill - finish any service, fix the hinky stuff, a superb detail, a better Ad: $7,900 *asking* and shake and shuttle at $6,5/$7,5 .. but take it ... I have a funny stupid feelin' that someone will give you $6,9ish ..........
Let me know what happens .....
Terry.
I have a 2003 Honda Pilot, EX-L, located in Greensboro, NC.
Vehicle is white exterior, grey interior, leather, 4WD. Mileage is 42000. Vehicle has fairly new Michelin tires, alloys, keyless, and other standard EX-L accessories.
Vehicle is garaged, no damage inside or out, truly like new (yeah, I know you hear this all the time, but I am truly anal rententive about my vehicles!). No stains, door dings, scratches, or damage. All service records since new, no insurance claims or other issues. We are non-smokers, so the car still has that nice leather smell.
Shows well. I am planning on selling it myself.
What is your take in car land???
Thanks in advance, your input is always welcome.
Anyhoo .............. 03 Pilot EX, we got the moo stuff, no runs no hits no errors, right color combo for the area, new Miks and the miles aren't too bad ..... if it's clean as you say it is, then down Retail Rd: $23,950 *asking* and kick it loose for the first $23/$23,5 .... you should get someone from the Raleigh/Durham, Winston/Salem area that will drive for a nice driver ...... I see you guys have been getting some serious rain up there ...
Good luck, let me know ............
Terry.
Honestly, what do you think. They've offered $18,999 before T, T & L and the wife prefers the size of the Jetta. And do you think the price is fair? I'm dealing with the internet salesperson and he seems on the up and up. It's at Gunther VW in Coconut Creek Florida, just west of Pompano Beach.
TIA bud as always. It's really like a mini BMW inside...very classy and something I truly believe the wife deserves even with her attitude lately. No matter what, I do want her to be happy...and maybe I'll even get to drive it. I told her that she'd have to maintain the car, but she knows I didn't mean that. And she knows that I'll be the one to negotiate and all she'll have to do is put as much down on our credit card as they will allow and then write a check for the rest. We have the Shell Mastercard and get free gas on all purchases and would love to put at least $5k on the card. The last 2 Nissan purchases had a $2k limit, so we had to settle for that.
Stay dry up there man...it's been like a monsoon down here these past few days. Luckily my recent auto accident with my mail truck has kept me indoors answering phones all day! Do wish being with my customers though.

Thought I was going to pull the trigger last weekend but after spending an evening with the Pathfinder, I felt the interior was a bit on the poor side. At first glance, the interior looks sharp but after scrutinizing it a bit I further I found lots o' plastic and crappy materials being used....Perhaps I'll look into the 4Runner.
Will keep you informed!

I'm in L.I. NY looking at a CPO BMW 2002 330 CIC. The dealer took $2000 off his asking price of $37,900, making my purchase price $35,900. I checked various valuation sites such as Kelly Blue Book, Edmunds, NADA, and others, and the $35,900 is consistent with retail prices.
The car has 26,000 miles, auto trans, premium and cold weather packages among other features. $35,900 seems a little high, is this a good price, or should the price be lower?
Thanks,
Lauren
===================================
In Longa island .... we have a 02 BMW 330 CI Convert .. we have the auto thing, cold pack, itty bitty miles, Prem pack and the color is a mystery ....
If~ the rubber is brand new, the service is from yesterday, the interior looks like it's been hovered in, it doesn't have any paint by numbers, a *clean* history and it glows in the dark ... then the dealer might have paid the super tall $29's low low low $30ish figure for it ...... add the CPO - $1,200, then lets add a little this and that with the proper inspection and it might hit the table at "around" the tall $31ish low low low low $32ish figure . ........
$35,900.? .. he won't be sending his kid to Columbia University on it, but try $34,5/$35,0 and see what happens ... depending on the color, it has short miles - and kinda hard to find .....
Terry.
Yeah, it is golf season, but PLEASE stop the rain. Maybe I can send some your way for all the help.
I currently have it listed for $23,800 and would certainly think I can sell it within the range you give on retail road.
Thanks again, I'll let you know how it turns out.
You have been 2 for 2 in the last few years on values, so I value your input.

Most will start with an SUV, then decide that it might be too big or not sporty enough, then they might travel to a Mercury Marquis or a Passat .... the funny thing about these boards are, most folks read waaaay too much and they "think" they have found the perfect vehicle until they get to the dealership and actually see, feel and drive one .. then they're off to another fishing expedition ..l.o.l...... sometimes it's better to "look" first, then do the research ...
Let me know on the Solara, It will be interesting to see how much your local carmax drops into it ... one carmax buyer dropped $19,5 last week at the auction on one very similiar to the one your looking at .. by that time, your Mom should be driving a Ford Focus ............ :shades:

I went to get the oil changed in my Passat yesterday and sat in one of the new Jetta's and I was impressed. Real nice interior...as you said....very BMW like. I am very interested to see the new redesigned Passat. That is like telling the insurance agent "Yes, I have been in good health since my last heart attack."
I can't think that the car is worth more than $3k in great condition. With a transmission problem, I would pass on the car. That repair may cost $1200-1800 to repair. In its current state, it is worth about $500.

275 miles ......................? .. why are they trading it.?!?
If it's like it was when it left the lot ... then trade side, in and around the super tall $13's low $14's .. might maybe get a dealer to travel towards the mid/tall $14's on a good day and they reeeeaally need the business ...... Retail Rd.? how much can you ask for a vehicle that can bought new for around the $17,9ish range .... $16,900 *asking* and grab the first $16,0/$16,5ish ..

Hey Mike .... 05 Denali .. 3rd seat, color almost works for the area, certified, slider, quads, 10k and the Disney package..? ....
If-if-if-if-if the history is clean and no Maaco, then the dealer might have dropped the tall $35's low low low $36's in it .. figure the CPO and a few little things here and there and it probably hits the table in the low $37's ........ $38,600.? lets put it this way, I doubt anyone will be spending 3 weeks in Costa Rica .. sounds like he's just trying to turn and burn a unit .......

Seems like this big GM sale would really hurt resale value of the used ones.
On another note ..

Trade: 2004 Chevrolet Malibu LS (new body-style)
3.5L engine
16,000 miles
Silver exterior/gray cloth interior
Power windows, locks, mirrors, alloy wheels, CD player, factory remote start.
Car is in good condition overall but she does have damage on the driver's side door where her sister swiped her with her Trailblazer.
Interior is clean .. non-smoker. No rips or stains.
Trying to purchase: 2002 Honda Odyssey
EX model with cloth interior
55,000 miles
White exterior/cloth interior
In OK condition .. needs a new windshield and the tires are a little worn.
Runs great and the interior is clean.
What's a fair trade/purchase price in the Atlanta market? Dealer offered $12,000 for the Malibu and wanted $19,500 for the Odyssey.
Ya might do your friends a favor and tell them to pinch their pennies and step up to a new one (or a new Sienna).
4 years old, 55k, $20? Might maybe haggle down to $18,200???
Forget it. Buy new or keep driving the Malibu, or do what I did and get a 99-02 Villager.
Always happy to spend other people's money,
-Mathias
