Sheesh, and I thought people would let a lot of cars go by waiting for demand to diminsh.. of course, the supply diminishes as well... shows you what I know.
Well, that's why I'm here.. you can't get this information anywhere else. That, and the learned discourse... ;-)
...... Now it also depends on who's running what ....
If your NMAC, Bank One, Chase, GMAC, BMW, PNC, Fomoco, etc and you're running 80/150/200 vehicles that day, then your just going to average them out ... now, if the bid is too low they will just "no-sale it" and run it thru the lanes again - or pack-it up and run it next week ... or "sometimes" if the bidding gets real cold they will cart them off to another auction, kinda like that show on HBO ~ Carnivàle .........
The first time I attended one of those auctions, I went with a 20 year old kid and a stool ... He insisted on charting all of the sale prices paid.
What impressed me more than the auction ... was the $10M+ in snow removal equipment that this one small Chicagoland city of 50k had ... WOW!
IMPORTANT NOTE - if any one out there is looking for a Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor pre 2004 MY, make sure that the municipality has installed the necessary protective devices over the gas tank. If the town mechanic is at the auction, they'll be happy to disclose that information. Otherwise, take it to a dealer for the repair. Most of the Chicagoland municipalities place a sticker on the dash to let the police officers know that the modifications have been made.
Terry ...
My grandpappy once told me one thing along time ago ...
..... the money is made on the purchase, not the sale ....
Hi Terry. Im new to Edmunds and looking for a Real world trade-in value/Private Party Value. Ive checked Edmunds TMV and other blue books.
2002 Black Ford Ranger Edge Supercab 2 Door in Oklahoma 5 Speed Manual 4.0 Supercab 2WD 20000 Miles tilt cruise Cruise air power locks keyless entry power windows power mirrors excellent interior exterior has some small scratches on tailgate-touched up bed has lots of scratches but no rust tires are good probably at least 60% brakes have no issues maintenance is up to date have every oil, filter, flush with dealer receipts TIA J =============================
In .. Oooooooook La Homa .......
We have a 2002 Black Ford Ranger Edge Supercab 2 Door ..... do we have Polar air.?
The bad news: it's got the meat clever, bad color, the bed has been used for a BB convention, it's a 2wd 2dr and we have a bunch of scratches all over the place .....
The good news: it's got low miles, the power pack, the 4.0 V6 Scab and you say the service is kinda up to date ...... the 3 biggest problems here (actually 4) are the color, the handshaker, the bed and 2dr's and 4 seats on a Scab, they need to call this one Edgy instead of the "Edge" ...... trade side, in and around the low/mid $8's, "maybe" the low low low (did someone say low.?) low low low low low $9's on the right day and time with the proper alignment between Mars and Saturn in it's 3rd phase, and thats only if we can get Tom Cruise to give it "his" blessing on the 3rd Tuesday of the month (California time) .....
Down Retail Rd .... maybe get the bed sprayed, but the overspray would probably kill half the folks in Phoenix .. find a nice bedliner, finish any service, get with the Dukes of Detail and run a nice 4/5 liner Ad in the big paper for: $10,900 *asking* and cut this dude loose at the first $9,5/$10,5 ...... can't get greedy on a truck like this, the miles save it, but everything else taketh it away ......
Atlantic City, NJ 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4dr SUV 6 cylinder automatic 2WD 14,000 miles dark blue Standard equipment excellent condition inside and out original tires original brakes Routine maintenance No accidents or insurance claims
gonna hit a couple of dealers in the next few days, so thought i'd repost the following request. one dealer had mentioned 15.5 last week, and i thought it was low, but please let me know if i'm the one that's in the wrong ballpark.
location: northern nj year/make/model: 03 mini cooper s body style: 2dr engine: 1.6l supercharged 4 cylinder, 6 speed manual driveline: fwd mileage: 19800 color: electric blue/black roof/grey cloth major options: hid headlights, cold weather package (heated seats), dynamic stability control, multifunction steering wheel, sportlink condition: rear bumper has two small blemishes, rest of interior and exterior is in great shape, tires maybe 20% worn, brakes in good shape, all maintenance and recalls up to date, regular maintenance (including brake pads) covered by mini for another year other: no claims or repaints
.....l..o..l.... she thinks I don''t read CCBA ......?
LOL, I know you read it. I didn't say I was GOING to buy a new car now did I?? Not until spring at least when we do the truck swap (2 trucks going down to 1). I only said the THOUGHT was there.........well, the Zippy issues (does that car have a fuel filter?) and the fact I was behind a Mazda 3 5-door for a while the other day, that's a SWEET looking car.
I've got to make myself run Zippy until the end of the warranty (100k), just have to, one of those challanges that I'm starting to doubt I'll be successful in, lol. :P
My friend sold her '84 Volvo 240 creampuff (the one with 58,000 original one owner miles) to friends for $3,000 cash. The buyer had been wanting it for years and didn't negotiate when she tossed that number out and I think everyone was happy with the deal. Thanks again for the numbers everyone.
I am looking for a real world trade and private party sale value on this car. It is white with blue interior and has 58,000 miles. Tires good (over 50%), brakes good, maintenance up to date, had some front end damage but was professionally repaired and repainted. Twin Cities MN metro area 55107. Thanks.
got a new job with a sizable raise, and my wife is complaining about having to drive around in an old Corolla. While she would like me to get rid of my 94 Grand Marquis, I'm thinking of trading my Dodge Intrepid, getting her a new Mercury Mariner with the 4 cylinder, and I driving her 2000 cracker box Corolla as a commuter car, though I hate it. We'll keep the Grand Marquis for our road trip and my weekend car. The Dodge performs better, but the Mercury is smoother, quieter, much more solidly built, more relaxing, and worthless as a trade-in. I've noticed it has what I would call "road presence" when I drive it. Anyhow,
2000 Dodge Intrepid R/T I bought new, located in central Ohio 3.5 liter V-6 with autostick 66,000 miles dark slate with charcoal cloth interior keyless entry, power glass moonroof, 8 way power driver's seat, cassette/cd, all the R/T performance items from the Eurospec 300M, (brakes, tranny and power steering cooler, 17 inch wheels, handling suspension, thankfully no rear spoiler on the 2000's, at least) Condition - interior in good shape, exterior has the typical parking lot dings that I've touched up, and one rash low on the driver's side bumper cover from a bank drive through, hood ornament fell off, tires are BF Goodrich Traction T/A with 10,000 miles, do my own maintenance, so fluids and brakes are solid. No accidents, but Chrysler has replaced the tranny at 2,500 miles, and the A/C about 10,000 miles ago. I'm betting trade in the high $5k, which means with my cheapness, I may just switch cars with her. ==================================
In the land of the Buckeyes .... we have a 00 Doe Je' RT with 66k .... the color is good for the area, the miles are low for the year, we got the hole in the roof, rubber is kinda almost newish, we got some kisses here and there from the nice folks at Hoggys and a road rash from when you tried to hold-up the bank ..... all in all, probably not a bad driver .. trade side, in and around the super tall $5's low/mid $6's ....... unless your forgetting to tell me something these dude's still get some strong $$ and sell well on the Retail side ....

The 99 Concours was a piece of garbage purchased at an auction by a wannabe unlicensed dealer.
I ended up buying the 96 base Deville with 49k miles, got the seller down to $4,750 because it needed brakes bad. The overall condition is okay, not great. Some road rash on the outside and leather seats that had never seen conditioner.
I figure at the price I got it, I should be able to drive for a year or so and sell for nearly what I paid. Now that I've changed the brakes, fluids, and really cleaned her, I'm enjoying the ride. This was for the greater Detroit Metro area, BTW.
Thanks Terry for your excellent, entertaining advice.

..... $4,750..? .. good for you, it's a veeeery fair price .. plus you live in great area to drop this dude down Retail Rd in the next 12/15 months .....

will the lease be up on the Titan next spring? If not, will you be 'way' upside down on that?
Lease on the Titan won't be up for a while yet and yes we will be upside down in it, however, the Dodge will be paid off and we will have some other money saved so downpayment should take care of that and then some. Cash talks remember?? LOL
Terry: I'd appreciate any helpful input you could give me on the value of my car. Thanks in advance.

The car looks great. There are a few stone chips here and there, but no major scratches. I still get many compliments on it and people often ask if it is an '04 or '05 model. They're shocked when I tell them the car was discontinued at the end of '01.
The tires aren't new. They've still got some life left in them. If I keep the car, I'd get new shoes for it next spring.
Brakes are great. The car's a stick, I hardly use them :shades:
The car drives great. Dealer serviced since new. Synthetic oil & filter every 4K miles. Alignments done evry 6 months.
The car was involved in an accident that was reported to the insurance company. There was body damage to the driver's door. I had the entire left side of the car repainted. It was matched perfectly and you can't tell it was ever in an accident. Another Naw Jasssee resident ....... lookin' to dump the Coop, eh...? ..... this one is an 03, the miles are nice and low, it's an "S" model, it's that "Eklectic" blue (no-sale blue) with the grey guts, we have the cold pack and the blinders ......... well, if you don't have any KFC or french fry invasions in the interior and the the bumpers are small in the scratch department .. then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $18's, maybe the low low low $19's on a good and glorious day .....
You may want to consider dropping this down Retail Rd .. super detail, excellent Ad in the "big" paper and: $21,900 *asking* and wave bye bye at the first $20,9/$21,5 .....

**trading my Acura in for a 2005 Mercedes C230K sport** --- I guess the first question is -- Why...?
In Mary-land ...... auto, right...?? we have a 04 Acura TL with 20k .. the color is right, the miles are ok and we have the Nav ... if you haven't used this dude for a community bus, you haven't dragged your golf clubs over the trunk 50 times, no Swiss Army knife interior, no battles at Burger King, no visits to Maaco, no curb burners and the service is 100% .... then trade side, in and around the mid/high $27's, "maybe" the low low low low $28's depending on the dealer and the condition of the TL ...
All that said .. make sure you can buy that C230K Sport for as close to invoice as possible - cuz' those things have about the same resale value as 5 day old Dunkin' Donuts and dealers can't give em' away ......

Good description - thanks ..... It's an 01 Prelude SH with 50k and we have some major paintwork to the port side .. the color is right, the miles are low and you say the service is 110% .... if the paintwork is super and it doesn't look like a bad nip and tuck like Joan Rivers .. then trade side (depending on the dealer and the finished product) then the low/mid/tall $11's, maybe the low low low low $12's if Van Gogh did the work, it glows in the dark and it needs -0- ...... me personally.? .. this pup would be going down Retail Rd .. you know the deal by now, a super this and that and $14,900 *asking* and let someone slap ya right upside the head with $13,900/$14,500 -- but take it ..... don't ask me why, but they still pull a crowd (if they're nice) ............................ :surprise:
Need some help here; trying to decide to sell on my own or trade in...
Location: New Orleans, LA 2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Body style: 4 dr sedan Engine: 1.8L Turbo manual transmission Dirveline: FWD Mileage: 24,500 Color: Black exterior/tan cloth interior Options: Wolfsburg edition (sport suspension, sport seating, BBS rims), Monsoon stereo, Sunroof Condition: Interior and exterior are both very clean. Two tires are new, the other two still have 1/2 life left; brakes are original. Dealer maintained for 1st two years; maintained by me since. Damage: Did have front end damage in an accident (~$5000); was reapaired at a high-end shop.
The BMW dealer wanted to give me $5000 on trade. Said the repaired damage was hurting me. What should I shoot for as a trade and what should I ask for/accept from a private sale.

Comments: Looking at taking advantage of GM deals. However, I have a feeling they will try to make it up with my trade. Thanks!!
I'm a new member of this forum. I hope this message is appropriate. If not, please let me know.
I'm about to sell a 1-owner 1993 Del Sol, Si and am very confused about how much to ask for it. This is the first car I've ever sold privately (as opposed to a trade) so I'd also appreciate advice on the most efficient way to sell it.
Here's the details.
Location: Buffalo, NY 1993 Honda Del Sol, Si 2 Dr, 2 passenger convertible with metal top (as is true for all Del Sols) Engine: 1.6L SOHC (I think this is the only engine on 1993 Si Del Sols) FWD, Automatic Transmission 72,000 miles Paint: Black Options, Air Conditioning, AM/FM/CD dealer installed sound. Condition, Mechanical: My mechanic, who did a 75,000 service cycle on the car, found no problems. Condition, body and appearance. Car was driven regularly in Buffalo, NY winters and there is noticeable rust in three places. I have a rough estimate from a body shop of $600-800 to repair it, but the repairperson stressed that it would need regular touching up after that. There is a tear in one of the seat backs, not enough to require repair, but definitely noticeable.
Edmunds "Used Car Appraiser" gives me a Private Party price of $2,728 if I assume a "rough" condition and $3,190 if I assume "average"" condition. Ads on autoTrader.com show a price range of $1,800 to over $10,000 with most in the $3,500-$5,000 range.
I was wondering if you could give me a fair trade-in value for my van. A dealer has offered me $6000 and not even seen the vehicle I was looking at a 2004 Highlander Limited. Thanks in advance. Location:Omaha NE 99 Dodge Grand Caravan LE 4dr Wagon 3.3L FlexFuel 6cyl 81000 miles Color: Slate Grey(okay Black) with gray Leather Options: Infinity Audio, Quad seats, Rear air/heat Custom Wheels and Paint. Minor door dings and scratches associated with a soccer mom's van. Tires-Less than 20,000 miles new brake pads within last year. Well maintained stay at home mom's van.
Seattle, WA 2003 Toyota Highlander 4 cyl FWD Auto Light blue exterior/tan cloth interior 28,000 miles Power seat, keyless entry, roof rack Original tires with significant tread left Original brakes All scheduled maintenance is done No accidents or body work. The exterior is clean with no dings and only a few small scratches. Interior is undamaged, but needs a detail.
I'm thinking the color and 4cyl will keep it down, but I'm hoping the high price of gas makes the 4cyl more attractive.
I've asked you about this one before, but it's been several months, so I thought I'd get a real world value for right now, because I am seriously shopping to trade at the moment. 1999 Ford Explorer XLS 4WD 4 door 4.0 OHV V6 Automatic 57k miles (just about to turn) Dark Orange/Gray Clad Ext, Tan/Khaki Int cloth seating chrome plated styled steel wheels sport running boards (gray) power windows, locks, mirrors am/fm/cd cold ac towing package front brakes a year old and 10k miles, rear brakes ok, never changed since I've had it tires are ok, will need replacing in 10 months to a year oil changed every 5k, all service. new plugs a year ago, but had one go out couple of weeks ago, replaced and running fine absolutely nothing wrong with it, everything works, runs fine, tranny shifts fine, paint is glossy with very few scratches, no dents or dings It really is a jewel to the eye, but I'm just not happy with it. I'm going to due a top to bottom detail on it, wash, wax, armor all the gray cladding, and do a complete detail of the interior as well.
What can I expect for a trade? I have thought about selling it myself, but I'm wanting to take the quickest way out of it.
I own a 2000 Chevrolet Express Conversion Van G1500LS Cobra package. Mileage is 111,000 - highway miles. Excellent Condition. White. Interior also in excellent condition. What can I expect to be offered as a trade-in on this vehicle?
It is almost impossible to find the trade in value on my vehicle!! Help - I own a 2000 Chevrolet Express G1500 LS CONVERSION Van - High Top - Cobra Package. It is in excellent condition. White. Interior is red and in excellent condition also. No accidents or dents. Mileage 111,000 - Highway miles. I live in Savannah, Georgia and am ready to trade it in for something a little smaller - maybe an SUV. Please Help!! :confuse:
The guy who dispenses most of the best info here (Terry) is quite busy & often checks in only every 2nd or 3rd day. You need to use the format at the bottom of the page to have any hope of getting an accurate response. List the relevant facts (location & color make more difference than you might think) in the same order as the template & it'll increase your chances of getting the information you want.
My son just graduated from basic training; and it looks like he might be deploying to Iraq in September. If so, he wants to sell his car and buy a newer one when he returns home. Can we please get the trade-in and retail values?
Location: Martinsburg, WV 1997 Nissan Maxima V6 engine, auto, 135,000 miles. Slider. Decent rubber, probably around 75% tread. Cold A/C. Not sure on brakes (they haven't been replaced since he bought it 1 year ago). Gold exterior with a few dings and kisses, nothing major. The paint (clearcoat) is flaking off the rear spoiler though, perhaps a sign that part of it has been repainted at some point?
It's had normal oil changes/lubes since he's had it, but otherwise nothing major. Runs GREAT. Lots of pickup and very peppy. Interior is okay, not perfect but no major flaws. I'd rate it "good/average" overall condition.
Can you please help me on a trade in # for this car,
2004 FX35 2WD-silver/tan leather premium and tech packages--all the do dads that make the car fun--but no sport pkg.--18" tires--not the 20" with standard alloy rims no accidents--maco re buffs--very clean car 39,000 miles located in Phoenix where it is way to hot right now!! new tires and brakes 4,000 miles ago

Always our military first .... good description, but you forgot the GXE, SE, GLE stuff .. but anyway I'll just go on ...
In West Virginny we have a 97 Maxima "kinda sounds" like an SE (?) .. (slider - is it factory.? - cloth ..?) V6 of course, auto, we got some big miles going on here - you're probably right, the spoiler was an afterthought and installed by the dealer because Nissans paint is pretty sturdy, we have some cold breeze, rubber is okay, good color for any area and you say the service is probably maybe pretty good over the years ........ IF ~ it's an SE, "clean" cloth interior, no Hershey invasions, no KFC in the back seats, bold and cold air, no paint by numbers and it looks feels and drives like 50k ..... then trade side, in and around the $1,8/$2,5ish zipcode depending on the dealer.
Down Retail Rd ... finish any service, super detail, super duper 4/5 liner Ad in the "big" paper and $4,900 *asking* and cut it loose for the first $3,5/$4,5 ... if it's nice, and it's properly done and it doesn't need much (if anything) it shouldn't last long even with the big big miles ... if it's all whacked out, the front-end jumps around like a pregnant rabbit and the power windows are weaker than pond water, then start deducting and maybe trade it ............. your son is a hero, he just doesn't know it.

Over there in Naw Leens ....... lets start by thinking about it in the "BA" sense (before accident) ... it's a 01 Wolfsburg with itty bitty miles, it's a handshaker, no help from the color, big wheels, Moron stereo, slider and it sounds like it has all the stuff .... super nice and super clean with short miles.? then they're worth in and around the super tall $9's low/mid $10's, some dealer might "maybe" even march all over this dude and drop the super duper tall $10's in it because of the low low miles (if it was super clean) .....
As far as what it might be worth now.? AA (after accident) .. it's hard to say because I'm not lookin' at it, maybe the overspray is all over, perhaps the body work was done by Atilla the Hun, maybe the paint and blend doesn't match up right, maybe they used aftermarket parts and had Jerry Lewis install them -- who knows..?? ....... me personally, I would be getting some other dealers to take a look at it because $5,000 seems really light .. if they all agree, then send this dude down Retail Rd, finish any service, get a superb Superman detail, place a wonderful Ad and disclose everything at $10,900 *asking* and let it go at $8,5/$9,500 ... it's hard to put a number on this one without putting my froggy little fingers on it .....
This is some information that Mathias has stored, so take a look see and get an idea - because most of the time I don't make any sense anyway .. just ask my g/f ..l.o.l....
Hi Terry, Thanks for your response. The dealer has come down to 10,500, we'll see if he comes down further after the weekend.
Well, that's why I'm here.. you can't get this information anywhere else.

Kinda like Xmas in July, ain't it .......?

Good luck and let me know what happens ......

Anyhow,
2000 Dodge Intrepid R/T I bought new, located in central Ohio
3.5 liter V-6 with autostick
66,000 miles
dark slate with charcoal cloth interior
keyless entry, power glass moonroof, 8 way power driver's seat, cassette/cd, all the R/T performance items from the Eurospec 300M, (brakes, tranny and power steering cooler, 17 inch wheels, handling suspension, thankfully no rear spoiler on the 2000's, at least)
Condition - interior in good shape, exterior has the typical parking lot dings that I've touched up, and one rash low on the driver's side bumper cover from a bank drive through, hood ornament fell off, tires are BF Goodrich Traction T/A with 10,000 miles, do my own maintenance, so fluids and brakes are solid.
No accidents, but Chrysler has replaced the tranny at 2,500 miles, and the A/C about 10,000 miles ago.
I'm betting trade in the high $5k, which means with my cheapness, I may just switch cars with her.

:surprise:

I'm about to sell a 1-owner 1993 Del Sol, Si and am very confused about how much to ask for it. This is the first car I've ever sold privately (as opposed to a trade) so I'd also appreciate advice on the most efficient way to sell it.
Here's the details.
Location: Buffalo, NY
1993 Honda Del Sol, Si
2 Dr, 2 passenger convertible with metal top (as is true for all Del Sols)
Engine: 1.6L SOHC (I think this is the only engine on 1993 Si Del Sols)
FWD, Automatic Transmission
72,000 miles
Paint: Black
Options, Air Conditioning, AM/FM/CD dealer installed sound.
Ads on autoTrader.com show a price range of $1,800 to over $10,000 with most in the $3,500-$5,000 range.

absolutely nothing wrong with it, everything works, runs fine, tranny shifts fine, paint is glossy with very few scratches, no dents or dings
It really is a jewel to the eye, but I'm just not happy with it.
I'm going to due a top to bottom detail on it, wash, wax, armor all the gray cladding, and do a complete detail of the interior as well.
What can I expect for a trade? I have thought about selling it myself, but I'm wanting to take the quickest way out of it.

V6 engine, auto, 135,000 miles.
