In the land of the Chargers .....
We have a 00 G20T .. it's got 73k, the handshaker is nooo help, good color combo, leather, slider, sports stuff, hydes, new round things, almost stoppers, fresh 3rd pedal, a few kisses here and there and a visit from the Dutch Boys ......... trade side, in and around the super tall $6's, maybe "might" see the low/mid $7's depending on the dealer ........ me personally.? .. down Retail Rd, finish any service, super clean, better Ad and $9,950 *asking* and send it south for the first $8,9/$9,5 ... these are still pretty popular and even with the handshaker it would go pretty fast (properly done) ......
Good luck and let me know .................
Terry
I appreciate the update ...........................................

Obviously Mr. Bangle likes his cars better than most, because the new body style is colder than a January night in Fargo North Dakota ...... "problematic" .. okay, that's one word for it ..l.o.l.......
Anywaaaaay ....... (auction bought/trade.?) .. the miles are kinda tall, the exterior color is fine, the interior color is nooooo help, it's got 40k on the clock, I'm sure all the goodies ... IF ~ the paint is perfect, no visits to Maaco, no Love Bug attacks, no curb burners, deep in sneakers, the stoppers are from yesterday and all the "K" service has been completed .... then the dealer paid in and around the the tall $37's low low $38's .. figure a this and a that, then drop the CPO in it and it probably hits the table in the mid $39's .....
$51,000 ...?!? .. was that in Peruvian money ..?
$45,000...? .. that's a fair "asking" price .... but I have a stupid feelin' that the dealer will cut this one loose for the $42ish range .... it's not like folks are bustin' down the doors for the new "7's" ..... the dealer probably drives a Malibu .l.o.l...
Don't forget to let me know .....!
Terry :shades:

if you meant to say 42k...let me know...otherwise....please keep dreaming. thank you.
As for the rest, get a copy of a person's driver's license and maybe the keys to their current ride as collateral when they test drive your car. Write up a sales receipt (you could probably use Google to find a sample one) on the sale, get cash in hand, and sign over the title.
What's the list price on those anyway.
I'm very interested in what Terry has to say but I'm sure you'll take a bath in it if you try to unload it now.
Looks like $49k for a similarly equipped 2006. Edmund's says incentives are available, but doesn't show any when you click on the link. A black car in Florida is going to be a deduction.

Also, if someone could run a carfax on it: 3VWSS29M41M005038 that would be appreciated....
I doubt if the leather is factory. Most of the leather equipped cars came with heated seats, alloy wheels, and sunroof. Is there a suede emblem on the side of the seats that says "Airbag"? If not, they're aftermarket hides...
For the asking price, you could probably get a 2002 model with less than half the miles...

Condition - This is the kicker. Carfax shows that this vehicle was in a "major" accident in 2001. I can't find any detail on the actual damage. The rig looks clean and drives great. Interior is average at best(few small patches on driver seat).
Tires are thick and paint looks great. I need help with the value of this car. How much of a discount should dealer give me due to prior accident. They just took this on trade and put new brakes/rotors on and some other minor work. He is asking $12,000 for it.
Thanks
A small dealership has the following vehicle that has peaked my interest. What say you on a realistic counter offer? I am a cash buyer, would $13,2k be too low? His advertised price is $14,990.
Huntsville, Alabama
2003 Dodge Dakota
Quad Cab
SLT Laramie 2WD
4.7 liter, V8 magnum, automatic
62,000 miles
Dark blue/silver on bottom exterior, grey leather interior
Options/Condition: It's got A/C and is loaded... leather interior, power windows, door locks, windows, and seats; spray in line-x bedliner, cruise/tilt, aluminum wheels. Mileage is high, but overall in good, clean condition. Paint glows in dark, no signs of french fry invasions or terrorist attacks at Walmart, no dings, just a couple of light scratches. Is a local 1-owner, carfax is clean. Drives nice, no leaks or funny things going on under the hood. All service records were available for inspection and routine maintenance, including warranty work, has been performed. New 16" michelins put on about 12k miles ago... tread is good with about 75% life left.
Other: We've had a good experience with this dealer in the past, got a 2002 Bonneville from them last year... no problems and the price was right. They are a small independent privately owned company with around 40-50 vehicles, mostly trucks, on the lot at any given time. But not a BHPH place. Also, he's been in business around 20 years and has a good reputation in the community. No pressure, friendly sales staff and feel comfortable buying from them again. All their vehicles are backed with a 3-month, 3k mile warranty.
Also,
I would like to get some realistic numbers for the following vehicle I own. Due to it's high mileage and age, I plan to sell it on my own after a good detail. I'm the original owner, bought new in Nov '94.
Huntsville, Alabama
1995 Honda Accord
EX 4 dr sedan
2.2 liter, 4 cylinder, handshaker
130k miles
Dark green, with tan leather interior
A/C, power windows, door locks, seats and mirrors; cruise/tilt, power slider, new JVS cd player installed 6 months ago, allow wheels, wood grain option near manual gear shift /radio console area
Condition: New tires installed about 12k miles ago, new brakes 6k miles ago, driver side window motor replaced a couple of months ago. All routine maintenance is up-to-date and oil changes every 3-5k miles. Suggested maintenance by manufacturer not yet performed includes a new water pump and timing belt, but car still drives great and shows no symptoms/indication that these items are in need of repairing. If I planned on keeping it, I would definitely get these items replaced, but YIKES. May still get the timing belt replaced regardless, seems like the right thing to do. I have all service records. Car has been great. Other than oil changes, tires, and the occasional battery, the only major repair was a new starter about 5 years ago.
Other: Exterior... small ding in rear left corner panel near trunk (size of my hand) where I bumped a light pole (at a speed of about 5mph) backing out of a long driveway about 7 years ago (it was dark and light was out). Otherwise, just a few light scratches, but no rust. Interior... it's a smoker's car, but ashtray was never used and leather interior helps some. Wood grain console is starting to peel due to sun exposure, driver side seat is worn with some minor cracks in leather. Rest of interior looks good given it's age.
I plan to have the Honda detailed and try to sell it on my own. Is $3,900 realistic to ask private party? And if I did get a bite from the dealer, what can I expect...$2k if I'm lucky?
I know there is no market for a 130k, 11-yr old anything on a car lot.
Thank you for your time, for making me laugh, and telling Jolie? to stay away from car lots.. You do a great service on this forum and are very much appreciated.
Peace,
Lara

Huntsville.? .. right in path of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, arguably some of the best golf action in the country ....... good description, thanks ...
But I digest .... we're lookin' at a 03 Doe Je' Dakota Quad cab 2WD with (gulp) 63k, we got the 4.7 V8, color is not a winner this far south but the interior helps, we have the power pack, moo seats, wheels, cold breeze, bedliner, newish round things, you think the service is 110%, a clean Carsmack and some tall miles ........ "if" - it's clean, nice and it shows/drivers and feels like 25k and no secret affairs at Maaco .. then the dealer probably paid in and around the the super tall $10's low/mid $11's ... so figure a this and that, and it probably hits the table at the tall $11's ........ $14,900.? .. that's a stiff and tall figure for an *asking* price, especially with the tall miles and the non-inviting color ... figure between $12,9 - and $13,5 if you can't live without it ....... so I think your right on the money at $13,2ish ...
The Honda ...? .. well, uhm, aah, it's got some miles and it's a handshaker.. and it's probably worth about a ghee whiz to a dealer ....... me personally.? .. finish any service, get with the detail gods, drop a Fat Daddy Ad in the "big" paper and $3,900 *asking* and cut that baby loose at the first $2,5/$3,5 ......
Comments: I never pay much attention to the figures that posters drop in ... but you seem to be right on the $$ on this one ...l.o.l.... almost 28,000 posts, my job here could be completed ....

Up the street in Gainsville ....... we got this cute little 2005 Audi A4 3.0 Cabriolet .. it's got the 3.0, it's black, the Bozo sound, blinders, Prem pack, it's black, big wheels, super low miles and it's black .... did I mention it was black.? (in Florida, in August - Yikes.!) ..... super right, super perfect, no dings, no love bug attacks, no curb burners, seats been hovered in, showroom condition...??
If so, then trade side in and around the tall $38ish figure, maybe the low/mid $39ish figure on a fire sale, might "maybe" get reeeeal lucky and get a dealer to stagger into the low low low low low low $40ish figure .... the color kills it, even with all the options and the looooow miles .... Bud, this is Florida - not Findley Ohio ...........
Terry
As for the numbers I came up with...I learned alot by reading the RWTIV posts, using the various pricing tools as a rough guide, and studying my local market. Needless to say, I've been looking for a few months.
It's ironic. The price of gasoline is at an all-time high at $2.50/gallon in my area. It's probably the worse time to be needing a gas-guzzling truck. You'd think everyone would be trying to get out of their trucks and SUVs and into more fuel efficient vehicles. Accordingly, the price of these vehicles should be coming down. But nope. One thing I've learned about the South...we love our trucks...LOL!
Perhaps I need to rethink my options and spend my biggest portion of my money on a good used fuel efficient economy car that's reliable...say a Corolla or Protege for my everyday commute. Then apply whatever is left towards an 'ole beater truck for my ocassional hauling needs. Mainly wanting a truck because I play drums in a band and need it for transporting my gear for local gigs, Home Depot trips, trips for service trips for the riding lawn mower, etc. Ford Rangers and other similar compact trucks are just too small for what I need.
I leased a 2004 Nissan Maixma SE in July 2003. My monthly payment is $393.76 for a total of 39 months. I have 13 more payments to go for a total of $5,118.88. I contacted Nissan Motor Acceptance Leasing for a payoff figure and was told it was $20,031.56.
How do I determine how much I would owe if I went back to Nissan and traded in my lease vechicle for another car? Kelly Blue Book says my Nissan is worth about $17290. Edmunds reflects a Trade-In as follows:
National Base Price $18,668
Power Tilt and Telescopic Steering Wheel + $93
Power Moonroof + $464
Color Adjustment Silver + $47
Regional Adjustment for Zip Code 04038 - $86
Mileage Adjustment 27,598 miles - $411
Condition Adjustment Outstanding + $713
Total $19,488
I want to lower my monthly payment by leasing a less expensive car but am unsure if it makes sense. I don't want to go to the dealer owing money on the trade-in.
Thanks
Marc in Portland, Maine
First, you have done a job here that few people could do. It is absolutely MOST appreciated. Funny thing, I've read everyone of the posts here and I feel, as other do, that we know you personally.
Please don't quit just yet.... I might need your help in December when I trade my SUV in..... If you decide to retire, Edmund's owes you full retirement with full medical benefits!!
We'll miss ya if you decide to spend more time basket weaving, golfing, girl hunting, etc.... just cut back on the smokes! :P
Mark
Come on experts,waddaya think?
I have a 2004 Corvette Convertible that I am looking to trade in for a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500.
The car is in pristine condition:
2004 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Spiral Gray Metallic with Arctic White top... 9,000 miles)
----------------------------------------------------
6spd
heads up display
polished wheels
memory package
telescopic steering column
body side moldings
auto dim mirrors
twilight sentinel
12 cd changer
I live near Spokane, WA but the closest place I can find the exact truck I want is near Sacramento, CA. I know the trade-in value will be worth more down south, but what I'm wondering is just how much more. I was hoping to get $39,000 to $40,000 for the trade... is that realistic?
Thanks in advance for the advice
-Mike
========================
It's funny you mentioned the price of gas ............
A friend of mine was just on the "local TV news" the other day .. he was being interviewed because he owns a boat, and it was about the price of gas and how much it costs him - yatty yatty yatty ...
So "big George" was crying about it costs him $450 to fill his 35 footer and how he can't afford the prices and how he can't use it as much, etc, etc .. and the news reporter mentioned "Oh my gawd, no wonder at $450 to fill the tank" .. it was a big deal in the neighborhood and big George got his 15 minutes of fame, and since, he's been running around declaring the high cost of life and blah, blah, blah ........ when I ran into George yesterday I mentioned: "you and I have been boaters for about 20+ years, right.? ... last year it cost you about $300 to fill your boat, right.? and it takes you about a month to run the fuel out, right..? .. and knowing "you", you don't run your boat in the cooler weather, so it's fair to say the boat sits 3 months, right...?? .. so it's costing you "about" another $1,350 a year, or "about" $113 more a month, right .??" ....
Big George was ~ stunned .. he battled that he was paying $5,000 more a year - and even the TV station agreed with him ... what he forgot was (and the TV reporter) there was a cost "before" the $2.50 ($3.00 Marina side) a gallon fuel charge, it's never been free ...l.o.l......
I guess the point is .. whether your buying a car, or gas, or a new home "always" base your numbers on a - "Difference" figure .. make sure you look at the yesterdays costs and todays cost with a 10% upgrade ...... I have people trading 2 year old Bimmers on a Toyota Prius because they "think" they're going to save $2,500 a year and they only drive 10k a year, some owe more than it's worth -and- some have to pay sales tax ...l.o.l.....
I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but it's going to take some of those buyers 11 years just break-even (and some of those are CPA's - Yikes.!) ......... doesn't anyone do the math anymore ......?
Terry :P
I was kinda talkin' to myself (which I do a lot of) when I mentioned the number 28 ..... ya know, like it took 28,000 posts for folks to catch on .... Edmunds, Ha.! they haven't even sent me a T-shirt ...... by the way, it's Dog Dancin' .......
(cough, sneeze .....)
Terry
Would you please stop that??? Bad math is the best tool in the CCBA'ers aresenal.
My wife drives 20k a year, 15k of which she can do with our Vibe (30mpg) instead of the Sienna (20mpg, talking very round numbers). At $2.50 a gallon, I worked out the difference a while ago to $70 a month. Not enough to justify buying another car, definitely not enough to justify trading, as she needs a van frequently.
But enough for me to go buy a car back in March for myself so she could take over the Vibe! It's all in how you do the math, and when to stop!

I briefly negotatied with the guyfor the 2005 acura tl w/navigation over the weekend. I offered 30K to start, he came back with 32K and he never moved much below that. As I can get a new one for 32,500 without any trouble whatsoever, I passed. He said that once the new 2006's were out next month he would have an easy time selling it for even more than 32,000.
Thanks again.
Don't inhale.
-Mathias
Why, did they get Chris Bangle to design the 2006 model? :P
Terry.
Dern right it is! Without bad math how else could I justify trading my Titan in on a diesel. Oh wait, tried that yesterday then hubby (darn voice of reason these days) pointed out that what we would lose in depreciation on the Titan would NEVER be recovered with the somewhat better fuel economy of the diesel so I need to just deal with it. Ruined all my fun, lol. Bad math is definatly a CCBers best friend! :P

Tires new, brakes new. Original maintenance done at dealer, subsequent done by my trusty local mechanic.
What am I looking at? Thanks in advance big T!
IMO--the best bet now, is to go for the highest fuel economy--& a new Prius for what, $20-$25K?-- almost seems like a no brainer. But the car nut in me is thinking: wait until people start dumping their hot cars, like when people sold their big-block 'Vette's in the early '70's to buy little economy cars, & buy a great car at a discount price. Oh wait--I get it--buy both a Prius, AND a 'Vette, or an M5, then you've got all bases covered--I knew I could figure it out!
Right now Acura is sitting in a pretty comfortable chair and the TL business is booming, most dealers have less than a 21 day supply ....
They have been able to capture all age groups, they come loaded, a super warranty, they have a wonderful track record of reliability and longevity, they ain't bad on the eyes and it's a lot of "bang" for the buck ... I don't doubt he will sell it easily with the 06's on the ground, they're kinda like those silly little CRV's, they get aaaaall the $$ at trade and auction time, they ain't distressed merchandise -- the question is, for how much.? .. probably in and around the $31ish figure ......... you just need to move to a new one for the price difference because "somebody somewhere" will want to save that $30/$35 a month and take the pre-owned over the new one .....
Keep in mind, the vast majority of buyers are "payment buyers" - not car buyers ..............................
Terry.
This will give ya an idea, 15kers are getting the same $$ as 5kers .. go figure.

And some people "really" feel they will save big money, and some will ... -if- they drive 25/45k a year and then keep it 7/8 years ..... but trading in a 2 year old Caddy or a Bimmer that gets 25mpg for a vehicle that gets 35mpg is kinda nutty if they drive 8/12k a year and then drop-in the $5,0/$6,000 of negative "eckity" ... but these are usually the same folks that have refi'd their home 3 times in the last 2 years and think their saving money ..l.o.l.....

To answer your question - example only .... the 05 Ford Escape XLT 4x4 "Hybrid" is doing ..... drum roll please .... in and around the $25/$26 range at the auctions with 5/7k ------------------ Yikes.!

Brakes have lots of life left

Another West Coaster from Isells territory .......
In Seahawk land ... we have a 00 MB S430, it's got the 4.3, miles are waaay low for the year, we got the right color, the rubber might be a little scarce, maintence by the manual and you know the previous owner ....... if ~ it's super nice, seats look hovered in, no KFC in the back seats, no paint by numbers, no curb attacks and it looks and drives like a 03 ....... then trade side, in and around the super tall $23's low/mid $24's, might "maybe" could get a dealer to wander towards $25,0 if it's puuuuurfect, glows in the dark and it needs less than -0- ...........
let me know ...........
Terry.
I have a 2004 Corvette Convertible that I am looking to trade in for a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500.
The car is in pristine condition:
2004 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible (Spiral Gray Metallic with Arctic White top... 9,000 miles)
----------------------------------------------------
6spd
heads up display
polished wheels
memory package
telescopic steering column
body side moldings
auto dim mirrors
twilight sentinel
12 cd changer
I live near Spokane, WA but the closest place I can find the exact truck I want is near Sacramento, CA. I know the trade-in value will be worth more down south, but what I'm wondering is just how much more. I was hoping to get $39,000 to $40,000 for the trade... is that realistic?
Thanks in advance for the advice
-Mike

Mornin' Mike ...... a good description in Spoooookane ...
Right color, right miles, Oooop's handshaker - HID, Poland wheels, it's got all the junk .......... if it's "stand tall", in the wrapper and it looks and drives like - well you know, like brand spankin' new ....... then trade side, in and around the low/mid $37ish figure, might maybe get a dealer to get into the low low low $38ish range ........... "was hoping to get $39,000 to $40,000 for the trade... is that realistic?" .. anything is possible, but realistic is the word here ... the miles and the color save it, but the handshaker taketh away .....
don't forget the update .................

Blue with Blue leather interior
Heated seats with power recline
Condition: When I bought the car, I bought from the original owner and there was some "deferred maintenance" on the vehicle. So I put on all new pads/rotors, new battery, flushed the rad fluid, changed ALL the fluids, and spent a long time cleaning, polishing, spit shine, etc. As a result, it's in great shape now. A couple door dings, perhaps making it look a *touch* higher mileage than it really is, but this is a 10 yr old car after all. No burger king battles, no accidents, tires are 75%+, and like I said maintenance is now 112%. It literally drives like a brand new car, just awesome.

I'm asking $6650 but realize this is too high. I'm considering trading it in on a minivan but wanted to see what I might expect on this car. Also, what should I expect if my attempts down Retail Rd are successful? With miles this low I don't know how much to expect.
Thanks!!!!
