Hi, I'd very much appreciate some advice regarding the appropriate trade-in and private party values for our truck. Thanks in advance. Barbara PS I posted this a few days back. Didn't want to get lost in the crowd so I've reposted. ;-)

Hi again, We went ahead and made a deal on our car purchase with trading in the truck. I didn't want to have anyone waste time on my request when it's no longer needed so I thought I'd let you know. Thanks anyway.

Just seems to cheap when I'm seeing others for anywhere from $22K-$29K. If I throw out the abnorm low stated above and the one abnorm high of $29K, I get an average of about $24K.
What is realistic on a similar '02 wagon on the up-and-up? (leather, slider, etc)

Located in Spokane, WA, but I'm thinking I'll have to sell regionally thru Autotrader or Ebay. 4door wagon, V8, AWD 9800 miles - that's right, less than 10k Champagne Pearl exterior, tan leather inside Options: navigation, 6 disc CD changer, wind deflector, carpet mats, hood protector, wood dash Condition: always garaged, oil changed at 3K (Mobil 1) by dealer. No repairs. Excellent condition, only a few very tiny chips. Purchased new from a dealer in September, 2003, so it still has over a year of factory warranty left. How much do you think I can get for this truck on Ebay or Autotrader, or are there any other selling options? I don't think the Spokane area market is large enough to sell locally, but I could be wrong. I also have a set of 4 virtually new Bridgestone Winter Dueled tires on OEM Toyota Alloy wheels that I will include or negotiate for separately. =================================
9,800 miles .....? in an 02 ...? ........... Wow.! ....
Waaaay over there in Spokane .. right color, right options, no miles, 3k service, garaged -- what can I say.?
If the garage wasn't made of paper mache', it hasn't been a target for Mt St Helens or the whacko driver at Wal-Mart and it looks and feels new .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $30's, maybe the low low $31ish figure .....
Superb vehicle down Retail Rd, hard to get and hard to find .... I agree, the Spokane market "might" be a little timid, so I would be trying to hit the N. Cal, Seattle, Oregon market .... get some super pics, then some real nice online ad's in the 3 Big papers ... personally, I don't think it will last long on the 3 deal package -- $35,950 *asking* and cry and kick your feet at $34,950/$35,5 ~~ but take it ......... is it okay to say: the miles save it.? ..l.o.l.....
Everything happens in 3's, right??? PLEASE help, would like to get a real trade in worth/value of this car before I move forward.

Hello -I posted on another forum and was directed over to this one. I'm wondering how much my Regal should be advertised for? (if anything This is a new situation for me. I have a 94 Buick Regal Custom. 172,000 miles. The good - it runs, I drove it every day for the last year. New fuel pump last November. New power steering hose 2 months ago. The bad - no a/c, needs oil change, will need tune up sooner than later, drivers side windows do not roll down. The worst - Needs rear brakes, new rear rotors, 2 trailing arms and left rear ABS sensor.
Body has some rust but nothing extreme. Interior is average with stains on carpet. My brother bought the car new and always had the oil changed, general maintenance done. I will tell prospective buyers the truth, would never knowingly lie to someone. Is the car worth anything ? I am really out of my element here and would appreciate any thoughts you have on this subject. Thanks! PS AFter browsing your site I see people list the area they are in. I am in the Cincinnati, OH area.
Lets see, you have a $500 car on a good day, if you can find someone willing to fix it themselves. Not too many people are going to sink any money into having it professionally repaired to get it SAFE on the road.
I would slap a nice big $500 cash sign in the window and park it in a strategic location. If no bites in a week or two, take the best offer a junk yard will give you.
It will be safest at this point to the other drivers on the road to either send it to the junk yard, or find someone that will honestly fix the safety issues before driving it again, or needs it for parts to fix another Regal.
That is a lot of things wrong with the Regal. Generally, I would agree with the prior opinion of slapping on a $500 for sale sign and be done with it.
However, with all of the major safety issues - the brakes could easily run $400 or so - I am not sure that you wouldn't be better to take the car to one of the salvage yards down there on Eastern Ave.

Anyway ... in Oh-ma-ha .......... we have this 00 Maxima SE with 58k, (leather.?) it's got the auto thing, it's that brownish ka ka color, it's got some new round things and maybe some new stoppers ......... IF ~~ the interior doesn't look like a science experiment, it hasn't spent any time at Maaco, the service is 100% and no battles at Burger King .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $8's low/mid $9's .. if it's super nice, super clean and it glows in the dark, then you might "maybe" see a dealer wander towards the tall $9's .. if it needs stuff, start deducting ........
Good luck and let me know: that's called an update.
Actually.... the reason i'm bouncing around is due to the 2 options available to me ... one option is to sell all of my cars and buy one nice one (in this example, that would be the Benz) ... the other option is to sell the Volvo (currently the beater) and maybe even the Alfa, keep the Z as my weekend toy, and buy an economical and practical beater (in this example, the Echo ... although, if I bought a $3K car, I think I'd keep the alfa, too).
I'm really leaning towards the latter option since it would take something pretty spectacular to get me to abandon the Z. A Benz wagon is certainly unlikely to fulfill my need for driving fun.
Anyway, at this point, I'm just enjoying shopping ... cause, let's admit it, the actual shopping is the best part about the car-buying experience.

I would like to get an idea of the trade-in value for the following.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa 2003 Pontiac Vibe GT FWD 37,000 Miles Charcoal Gray Exterior w/ Black Interior Power Sunroof/Moonroof (I do not know the difference but I bet you do) Alloy wheels, 6 disc in dash CD, Front and side air bags, roof rack Well cared for and clean, one paint chip on hood that you can actually see and the interior has general wear but in very good shape. Tires I would guess are around 70%
The Echo at that price is tempting .... but Edmunds says that's like a $7K car ... hence my apprehension at the asking price. Something is not right here.

Still doing a booming business... drove down Kellogg Ave. about a week ago...
They must have it down to a science.. they've been there forever, and you can't go more than a day without seeing their sticker on the back of some beater...
q...that Echo might be worth a look at that price.
When shopping for my son's car a few years ago when he first got his license, I saw quite a few Echos for cheap money. Admittedly, not many of them sound like they're in as good as shape as the one you described. That said, they aren't going to win any awards for handling or perfomance. Their ride is choppy and the tires squeal going around ANY corner.
But, they would be a decent 30 MPG car for in town use.
I even looked at new ones. At the time (2002) they were selling for high $11K-low $12K with A/C as the only option on it.
ky....being on the northwest part of town, I don't see any of those OH MOTOR stickers. I know a looonnnnng time ago, when I was in my teens, I looked there a couple of times for a beater to replace another beater I had managed to "kill".
.. about what someone paid for a "leftover" '04 Cayenne Turbo.. I was just wondering what these were going for at the auctions, in comparison to what they paid..

There are only a couple of dings and scratches and the paint is still very glossy and looks really good when clean. Tires are only a few thousand miles old. Front Brakes need replacing soon. Oil changed every 3 months which is only about 2000 miles for me. Clutch was replaced at 60000 miles. Other: Clean title, some repaint but the job was flawless as the car had some parrallel parking wounds from previous owner. (I am the 2nd owner).
What do you think I am looking at? I am getting a BMW 3 and it should be here late Oct or Early Nov, but I can commute with my wife. If I could get more now than in 2-3 months I might be willing to do that. Thanks in advance.
Austin city limits, right.? .. I love that show .....
We have this Yota Sienna XLE with 77k .... the color is ok for the area, the miles are nice and low for the year, we got the hydes, some tunes, it's been living shelter side, we got some boards and a rack - you say it's been serviced and everything else is kinda okay ...... if so, then trade side, it's worth in and around the super tall $6's low low $7's, might maybe "could" get a dealer to wander into the deep $7's if it's super nice and clean ....... down Retail Rd.? finish any service, get with the gods of detail, run a super Ad at: $10,499 *asking* and cast it away at $9,5/$9,9 ..... if it's nice, it shouldn't last long (properly done) it's a low mileage XLE ......
This sold at $9k even. I think I could have approached $9.5k if I had more patience, but after 10 days I was ready to make a deal.
One thing I noticed is that for this class of vehicle (Minivan), most buyers who came by didn't value the goodies (leather, rack, hitch, audio, etc) as much as I expected. This wasn't true of the last car I sold (91 Maxima back in 98, which sold in a day!)
Considering you can't rent a car for twice that, sounds like a public service[1] to me...

[1] Of course, what I know about BHPH is only slightly ecliped by my knowledge of Dr. Michael Smith's Nobel prize winning PCR-based site-directed mutagenesis technique. In other words: Nothing. Nada. Zip. I'm lucky if I spel it gud.
A trailer hitch in a minivan is viewed as a negative. When I see a hitch in anything, I'm thinking what was towed with it. In a van like yours, it would cause me to think "why is he selling the van with so few miles. Maybe it could'nt pull whatever he was towing with it", and I'm likely to give it a pass. I can't help thinking if you had removed all traces of it, you would have got more money for it.
An Aveo? I think I'd rather get a used Civic or Corolla.
There's a lot of those "$9,995 and under" car lots cropping up around here. I'd see if I could snag one of those proverbial Chevy Prizms and a decent price at one of those places. Don't know if you've seen any of those places where you live.
They always seem to have a good selection of decent used Civics, too.
My son bought an '03 Hyundai Elantra almost 3 years ago. He's not had even a smidgeon of problems with it. He plans on keeping it until he's out of college (another 3 years). While they don't have great resale value, he only paid around $10K for it and it came loaded. By the time he's finished with it, it will probably have a 100K miles on it and won't be worth much anyway.
... **I'm curious about this because it seems to be on the cheap side ... but maybe I'm wrong.

Certified pre-owned.
TMV is about 33,200 (without the cpo), but carsdirect sells brand new ones for only $700 more. The dealer is asking 34K. How low can he go?
I'm hoping "a lot lower" so I won't have any excuse to be indecisive.
If that Echo is an automatic, I would only expect 30-32 MPG or so on interstate trips going about 75 MPH. At least that was my experience when I had one as a rental I suppose you wouldn't drive it in that situation, as you have better choices in your stable... It would be dirt cheap on the maintenance/repair bills, though.

Located in Spokane, WA, but I'm thinking I'll have to sell regionally thru Autotrader or Ebay.
4door wagon, V8, AWD
9800 miles - that's right, less than 10k
Champagne Pearl exterior, tan leather inside
Options: navigation, 6 disc CD changer, wind deflector, carpet mats, hood protector, wood dash
Condition: always garaged, oil changed at 3K (Mobil 1) by dealer.
=================================
Don't forget to let me know on this one .!

PLEASE help, would like to get a real trade in worth/value of this car before I move forward.

2000 Nissan Maxima SE
Auto
58000 miles
Sunset something (light brown/tan) color
All options expect traction control
Newer tires (1 year old)
new rear brakes (3 months ago)
tranny fluid just flushed/changed ( 1 month ago)
regular oil changes since day one (every 3K; original owner)
average/great condition overall, some carpet stains from toddlers, no major dings/scratches
Actually, we never argue .. especially since I "recommended" she take up golf about 5 months ago, in the meantime she has playing very well .. shoots in the low/tall 90's, not bad for a newbie ....... hmm, must be close to 6:12am ...

Everything in the 3's ...? .. I have a feelin' that Vijay Singh would agree with you since he 3 putted on almost every hole at Baltusrol ...l.o.l....
Anyway ... in Oh-ma-ha .......... we have this 00 Maxima SE with 58k, (leather.?) it's got the auto thing, it's that brownish ka ka color, it's got some new round things and maybe some new stoppers .........
Terry

Well cared for and clean, one paint chip on hood that you can actually see and the interior has general wear but in very good shape.
Tires I would guess are around 70%
Thanks in advance!
I just don't "see" you in the Benz wagon and not coming here in the next 12 mos asking Terry how much it's worth so you can dump it.
Find a nice Ody or Caravan for the little lady who's "nesting".
My guess is $250, if it currently runs decently..

The Echo at that price is tempting .... but Edmunds says that's like a $7K car ... hence my apprehension at the asking price. Something is not right here.

Year/Make/Model: 2000/Infiniti/G20t
Body Style: 4dr Sedan
Engine: 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder, manual
Driveline: FWD
Mileage: 73000
Color: Silver Exterior/Tan Interior
Major Options: Premium Package and Touring Package: (Leather, Moonroof, Power Driver's Seat, Sport Suspension, Spoiler, Automatic Climate Control, Alloys, Fog lights, etc.)
Condition: Interior is very clean except driver seat showing some leather cracking.
Let me know ...................
Terry.

Terry,
This sold at $9k even.
Live and learn...
Rajiv

You aren't serious, are you ?
Did you overlook the "50 years" part.
He gets 26 MPG-30 MPG on it, too.
It's really been a good car.

Oooop's a little bad news here ... it's "buy back", no wonder it's so cheap (kinda like a Kia .l.o.l..) ...... the nice ones, the "baby dolls" are worth in and around the $20ish figure to a dealer and they can get the $25ish figure on the Retail side, and a little more with a CPO .... my guess.? this one was probably bought for the $14/$15ish range and someone is trying to drop it like a bad habit because it has to be declared at the auctions .....

Location: San Jose California
Year/Make/Model: 2005 Acura TL
Body Style: Sedan
Engine: 3.2 Liter v6
Driveline: FWD, Automatic
Mileage: 5100
Color: Dark Gray outside, dark gray inside ("Anthracite and Quartz")
Major Options: Navigation is the only option, as these guys come fully loaded
Condition:
Nearly new in all ways. Only has 5.1K miles and it looks good. I can't find anything wrong.
Certified pre-owned.
TMV is about 33,200 (without the cpo), but carsdirect sells brand new ones for only $700 more. The dealer is asking 34K. How low can he go?
I'm hoping "a lot lower" so I won't have any excuse to be indecisive.
No, it was more that the hitch was a useless option to them, that they didn't want to pay extra for.
