well, at least its a popular car with a wait list, right? so should be pretty easy to sell it.
he is probably calling around now and finding out he won't be able to get one anywhere else. So he'll probably be back. I can't imagine anyone willing to drop that kind of money on a vehicle is going to stress so much about a couple of grand. I could be wrong.

It's coming off lease, purchase is $13,700 - worth flipping it to make a couple bucks?
Many thanks,
Squirrel
If you know the history and it's been serviced, it hasn't been run thru every $2.00 swirlomatic car wash in St Louis and the interior doesn't look like a storage facility for a Popeyes Chicken franchise .. then $13,700 is a great price .... most dealers will pay more than that at the auctions to get one .... depending on where you live and who you know, figure $250/$300ish for the new rounds things and that puts you at dead wholesale .... the bad thing about these are, they start breakin' down when they start to hit 120/150,000 miles, then you have to miss a day of golf to find another one ...
Good luck and let me know ..........

What am I missing...? .. $7,000..? .. has it been whacked smacked or cracked ....??
These are pretty nice little drivers, I'm a little surprised the dealers in the area hit it so light .. especially with the super low miles and it being a loaded up ES with all the stuff, plus it's a good color ... loaded up LX's you can find, loaded up ES's are a rare bird on Collins avenue or even the streets of DC .... it's a $9 grand car, at least $8,5 even in Jim Moran territory ..... $7,000.?? .. you could drop it in the Herald tomorrow for $9,900 and get $9,500 in a nano second ...
I must be missing something here ....

Have found so many different variations on what our Expedition is worth, could someone help me out?
Here is the info:
2000 Ford Eddie Bauer Expedition
mileage: 80,009
Color:Troubidour Red (maroon)/ with gold trim
Is a 4x2 not 4x4, and has the the 4.6 L V-8 triton.
Tan leather interior and is in very good shape, no tears, scratches or stains.
Has 6 CD changer, with cassette and AM/FM
power seats, windows and locks.
Cruise and all the standard stuff for the EB edition, running boards, towing, alloys, heated mirrors, and auto dimming rearview mirror.
Tires are a little over a year old and brake job done Spring 2005. Oil changed every 3000 miles. Had a new transmission put in at 34,000 miles due to a factory issue.
the exterior is in good shape, no body work ever done on it, paint is glossy and has only minor scratches in a couple of places.
The interior is in very good shape, clean with no stains, or problems with the leather.
Mechanically, it is in good shape as well and we have taken good care of it with routine maintenance.
By the way we live in SW Oklahoma in case that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I hit the Ranger right around the $8k mark.. maybe a tad more. If I know you it's pretty darn clean.
I think the GMC oughta pull around $12,800-13,300 or so.. but.. is it Blue perchance? If so they paid $13,900+++ for it in Nashville.
Terry knows Trucks better than I tho. Sorry but I thought I responded to you before. Dad passed away back in May.. I shut DAG down. Also sold off my share of Nissanville.. now back up north in Lamboland.

Good description but I see no mention of rear air or 3rd seat. I'll assume it has it, if it does not, it's value punishment time.
So it's got a big clock, it's burgandy which is no great help, it's 2WD which.. well, it's Winter and it can snow where you live I think... and, well, that's no help. 4.6L is no help here either.
Real high 8000s, maybe 9200.. that's the end of the earth. I really think it's an $8700 truck.

Wow, that's a lot of miles. No idea what color it is so it's Sandalwood or something inoffensive.
Me say $3700. I think you could possibly get a few bucks more, but that's a really big clock.. and it's strictly a wholesale piece for any new car store, so it's whatever the wholesalers will pay.
Sounds like a nice truck. Nice because it's not in my inventory.
Out of warranty this thing is worth, IMO, $19,500.
In Warranty I think you're safe if you can certify it..etc up to $21k.. on a push.
Lemme guess, it's in NADA for $26,500 trade-in or something outrageous like that, right? Don't you have a green book on hand silly?
I'm very sorry to hear about your dad. He was a great guy and I really enjoyed talking with him.
Sounds like your back up in Bergen permanently. Can't blame ya, it very nice up there. A couple years ago I was in Allendale for a NASCAR-related promotion and really liked it there. Very homey yet upscale, like the motto of the area could be, "We like a small town feel and we're rich enough to keep it that way".
About the GMC, its a metallic red they call Sport Red. Not quite a maroon but not nearly as bright as your typical red. If I could have found a metallic blue Sierra with the equipt I want when I was ready to buy, that would have been my color.
The Ranger belongs to a female friend who wants to trade in for a Sport Trac. I've kept an eye on the maintenance and kept it clean so its in really nice condition, not beat at all.
Keep in touch. If I'm up that way I'll stop in, it would be great to see ya.

In the land of Michael Vick -- has anyone seen his brother lately.? ..l.o.l...
It's an 02 Ranger 2wd XLT Ecab with 41k .... it's the V6, we got the auto, we have a little bedliner action, good color for the area, new skins, some chromee's and you feel it's a typical 4 year old truck with no visits to Maaco .... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $8's, maybe the low $9's ..
The Sierra seems to be loaded up .. so it "could" be a base standard that was ordered with a power pack upgrade as a price leader or it "could" be an SLE with the leather deduct ........ big difference in value, so let me know ..
Terry.
Sorry.
It's a Sierra 1500 SLE, standard cab, short bed, 2WD. No leather was available in this style. About the only option it doesn't have is bucket seats with a center console (like you see in Tahoes and Yukons). It's the the split bench with the big fold-down arm rest. Sticker on this thing was just over $29K, pricey for a std cab 2WD.
Good luck Sunny!
Mark :P
So how much for the transparent escape?
===============================
Why don't you show him the current auction reports and get over this hurdle ...?
Terry.
This one is a short bed (kinda rare) 41k SLE 2WD with the power seat ... it's the 5.3 V8, auto, it's that Carmine reddish maroonish color like they used in the Caddy's - we got the grey cloth so the combo is right, the miles are a little on the tallish side, tow pack, wheels, new rubber and it has all the stuff ........................... *~depending~* on the dealer .. trade side, in and around the super tall $12's low/mid $13's, might "maybe" find a dealer to wander into the strong $13's because of the "short bed" and the big motor ....
The hard part is trying to find a Yota or a Bimmer dealer that even knows what it's worth, because short beds sell and are hard to find .... depending on the sales tax difference I might try a run down Retail Rd first .. ya know the drill by now, finish any service, super detail, get some super pics and a Donald Trump Ad in the Hotlanta paper and their online deal, then: $16,495 *asking* and cut and snip at $15/$15,9 .....
Good luck and let me know ....
Terry.

I have and he just does not belive me. The deal is pretty much dead at this point but I have learned a valuable lesson not to help people when they ask about selling their own car privately. I have helped a couple of people in the past who had ordered a car and since they had time were going to sell their trade in privately to get more money for it. I printed up some nice window stickers for them to use listing all of their cars options, gave them some literature about the vehicle if I had some old brocures or someting and gave them advice on where I would start asking for and at what price I would let the vehicle go.
I am not ever going to do that again because of this guy's sellective memory. I told him ask 29k or so for it but I would take anything north of 26k. Now that 26k has become what his trade was worth three months ago which is insane since no one gave him a trade value three months ago. His car was three months away and he was planning on selling it on his own.
Anyway not matter at this poinst someone else will buy his car I am glad I held off in his accesories though.

"This guy must be looking at a $35-$40K loss for owning a Range Rover for 4 years. (For that kind of money, he could buy a new MDX or 4Runner Ltd every 4 years & then throw it out). By definition, he's irrational: buying his 2nd Land Rover....."

Yes third actually and this was a westminster edition Range. 2002 Range Rovers had a MSRP of $68,000 but Westminister's had a MSRP of $75,000 and they only made 300. So we are talking a 73% loss of value in four years ouch.
Now he did not buy this new he is actually the second owner. He bought it when it had 10k miles or so.

You can't let things like this bother you, $20 large is all the money .. you're always going to find a customer or two (or 3 or 10) that think their trade is worth more than it really is, it's common ...
Do you think everyone that reads RWTIV's believes what I print.? .. heck no.!! ..l.o.l...
They see that number and then they get that "dead mullet look" on their face and then start punching keys til' they get to a site or a forum that agree's with them -- and that my friend is called the rule of 21's -- they talk to 21 people until "somebody" agree's with them .....
In the meantime, they've spent 3 weeks and visited 3 different dealerships and they find out the original figure was right .. and the *last* dealership is usually the dealership they end up buying from - (after you did all the work 3 weeks ago) .. it's common and it happens every minute of everyday, folks don't want to be educated, they just want to be right ... just look at the Mayor of New Orleans ..l.o.l...
I've posted this before, but unless you're a golfer you might not appreciate the analogy .... I have a friend that has a few large golf stores and you'd be amazed at the conversations that go on in those stores .. all you have to do is "delete" the word "golf" and put in the word "car" and you'd swear your in a car dealership ... I've been using a particular Maxfli golf ball for a long time now and most won't use it it because it doesn't say Callaway or Titleist on it .. in the meantime, it was just ranked the top 3 ball you can buy in Golf Digest, now you can't find one between Miami and Massachusetts - go figure.
.. Never lose your sense of humor .. remember ~ next time you're going to be the 3rd store in the rotation of life ...

Body Style: 3dr hatch
Engine: 4cyl auto
Driveline: FWD
Mileage: 28900 (low!)
Color: Desert Silver/Titanium Cloth
Major Options: All standard options (sun roof, etc)
Condition:
Interior in excellent condition (no holes, rips, stains; carpet is perfect due to having all-weather mats installed); outside has a fairly large scratch (down to the black plastic) on rear bumper cover; couple of small dings on the sheet metal due to stray shopping carts or doors. Otherwise, great condition, paint is all still perfect.
Tires - Probably 30% worn. Original OEM rubber.
Brakes: New rear pads 11/05, new front pads 3/05
Maintenance: Regular oil changes, warranty work. Did not do the 20k schedule because they wanted $400 to rotate the tires and check fluid levels. NO THANKS! All maintenance has been done at dealer I purchased from (and would purchase the TL from)

Maintenance: 60,000 mile service was done @ 57,000 miles about 2 months ago.
Other: Right fender was repainted. Does not show up on Autocheck or Carfax. Invisible to the naked eye. Runs and drives great. No mechanical problems.
We are thinking of selling this to upgrade to a MDX with DVD & Nav or just selling it and pocketing the cash. What's a fair asking price?
I’ve had the ’94 Legend for about a year now, and I still enjoy driving it, but maintenance is costing a bit more than I anticipated. Premium gas doesn’t help either. The discussion here about old luxury cars was dead on. They look nice, but are expensive.
So, this is what I’m looking for:
A daily driver I won’t mind being seen in.
Decent gas mileage
Ability to seat 4 six-footers (I drive a lot at lunch) :-)
Semi-fun to drive, adequate power
Reliable
Good road car
Not overly expensive to maintain
The Legend fits the bill except for the gas mileage and cost to maintain.
The ’96 Avalon that Mathias’s friend bought last year would have been fine if it wasn’t so boring.
OK car experts, any thoughts? I haven’t really decided on a budget yet, but let’s say $5-8k. The alternative is to keep driving the Legend until another major repair comes up, and I may do that, but at 162k miles, it doesn’t seem to be quite as reliable as previous Accords have been.
Thinking about maybe an older Accord, or maybe a 626, Galant, or Maxima?
Oh, Terry – I still love the TL. :-)
Q
What about a 93-95 Acura Vigor or a 96-98 TL? Still more luxurious than the Accord or Maxima. Interior room will be comparable to the Accord but less than the Maxima.
Also, from what I hear, the 626 4-cylinder automatics have quite a few transmission failures, although my friend who has owned one for 80,000 miles (and no fluid changes) has not had hers fail yet.
I’ve had the ’94 Legend for about a year now, and I still enjoy driving it, but maintenance is costing a bit more than I anticipated.
How much is a "bit"?
horn button (minor) :-)
brakes all around, new rotors in back
inner tie rod
tires
heater blower motor
master cylinder
upper ball joint
just got it out of the shop for a speed sensor
and I'm only 18k miles away from the timing belt, water pump, etc.
about $2500 not counting the oil changes, transmission and coolant flushes, etc.
I've had it almost exactly a year. Bought it with 138k miles, and it has 162k now.
Corvette - thanks for your response.
The costs are about what you'd pay on a late-model Volkswagen after the warranty period.
OTOH, most of the items you have repaired on the Legend are normal wear items for an 11 year old car. You've already put a bit of money into it so maybe you should drive it a bit longer. Driving an older car on a daily basis can get expensive if you want it to be in perfect driving condition.
Maybe you should just get an inexpensive daily driver (less than $2500) and drive the TL more.

You were saying a $6K budget? What about a Volvo 850? or older bmw 3-series E-36? Not super-cheap cars to maintain, but I don't hear of many people paying $2500 a year for repairs for either. I had a friend who bought a '91 4 cyl 3 series. I think he had to have one thing repaired--the sunroof--in about a year.
*about $2500 not counting the oil changes, transmission and coolant flushes, etc*
woody,
Glad to hear that someone thinks $2000 per year is above the normal range for repairs on a European car. It wasn't just the money, but combined with the constant trips to the mechanic, and shaken confidence in the car itself, it kind of got to me. I hope I never get to have that kind of experience again!
On the other hand, I think one could expect some major, expensive repairs on a 7-series by the time it hits the ten-year mark, if not before.
