    I'm looking at a 2003 Element EX, 2 wd, 5 speed handshaker, dark blue with 24500 miles, vin 5J6YH17573L018771. Is located in a suburb of St louis in a Honda dealer's inventory. Carfax shows 2 owners (with the second 1 being the current dealer?). Also, shows as being an auction vehicle, one private owner but auctioned as a fleet vehicle? ? Can anyone explain?
    Anyway, looks and drives well. Is CPO'd. What do you think the dealer has in it and what would be a fair offer?It has been at dealer for about 2 months and when I went to look at it, it had a dead battery from sitting....
    Thanks in advance!

    Seems like about $1000 the lowest asking price for a vehicle that runs, does that sound about right? And would maybe $800 be about the selling price for private party sale?

    I may sell a 1991 Nissan Sentra with about 150,000 miles. 1.6 liter engine and 4 speed automatic transmission. It is pretty junky, the radio and A/C do not work, it has some rust incuding rust through behind wheels, and the headliner is starting to detach. It does have new tires and brakes.

    I was thinking I would try asking $1000 and take $800. I'm figuring people may be willing to overpay for good gas mileage, with gas at ~$3 per gallon again.

    I'm hoping to someone can help me, I'm looking to Trade-in my 2005 Chevy Equinox LT AWD and looking for a real world trade in value.

    Here are the Specs:
    * 2005 AWD LT, Dark Grey with Grey Leather
    *Top of the Line Packaging Includes:
    * 18,700 Miles
    * Premium Sound System
    * 6 Disc CD Changer
    * Heated Leather Seats
    * OnStar
    * XM Radio
    * Cruise Control
    * Radio Control Buttons on Steering Wheel
    * Leather wrapped Sterring Wheel
    * Power Sun-roof
    * 17" Aluminum Wheels
    * Towing Package
    * Never been in an accident, and General Maintence Recorded in manual, oil changed every 2,000 miles and tires rotated every 6,000 (with 7/32 Thread Left)
    * It is located in the Milwaukee area if that is needed.

    That should sum it up. If someone could help me out that would be great, I looked on Kelly Blue Book but wondering what I could get from a Dealer.

    Another Question: I'm looking to Trade the 2005 Equinox in and pay in full my next car, are dealers willing to drop the price of vehicles if you offer to pay in full with the Trade-in?

    Thanks for your help!
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Equinox's are going thru Manheim between $16,17000.

    Offering to pay in full with a trade won't change the price of a car from a dealer. If anything, a dealer may charge more since they won't be getting any F&I income.
    It may reduce or eliminate the state sales tax, depending on how your state handles the tax.

    Would 1 of you folks with auto sales experience like to take a shot at this in Terry's absence? Don't worry about hurting my feelings.

    It's spring on Long Island - about 30 miles east of NYC - & my wife has her eye on a new Lexus. What can we get for her current ride?

    1999 Lexus ES 300
    Mileage: 86.5K
    Exterior color: light green-grey (I forget what Lexus called this color. Sage, maybe?)
    Interior color: taupe leather
    Options: in-dash CD changer
    vehicle stability control
    heated leather seats w/driver side memory
    sunroof
    Exterior condition: no hits, no accidents, no repaints. Car has 8-10 of the usual suburban parking lot nicks. Paint shows no signs of fading & shines up nicely. Overall, somewhat better than average for a car of this age & mileage.
    Interior condition: Outside driver's seat bolster shows signs of wear: scratches in leather. Otherwise, interior is clean. No French fry attacks or fruit fly infestations. Smokers can't ride in our cars.
    Tires: all 4 were replaced in early 2004 - about 25K miles ago. Recently, our mechanic found that the front 2 were badly worn. He realigned the front & replaced those tires. As you'd expect with a front-driver, the rear tires, which don't do much work, have most of their tread life in front of them.
    Mechanical issues: none. All major systems (A/C, etc.) are performing to spec. Everything works.
    We're looking for private sale & trade values. A relative has expressed interest in buying the car.

    Thanks for your help.

    According to Manheim, $27-28000
  • olliegatorolliegator Member Posts: 4
    Location -- Orlando, FL

    2005 Nissan Altima 2.5S
    24,000 miles
    Smoke Grey w/ black interior
    Automatic Transmission
    Standard options on the S (PW, PL, Remote Keyless, power drivers seat, floor mats, cargo net, steering wheel audio controls, cruise)
    Moonroof
    Moonroof wind deflector

    In an accident (rear ended) $12,500 in damage. The repair job is almost flawless (and will be flawless once Allstate completes the repairs.)

    I have two questions. What should I expect from a dealer in trade-in value (or what should I require from them) and what would this car be worth if it had never been in an accident?

    TIA, OllieGator

    For those who work in the industry, how does one approach pricing on demos/manager's cars?

    The local Infiniti dealer (in Denver) has this on their lot:

    2006 M35x
    5,000 miles
    White/black leather
    Journey package
    Tech package
    MSRP of about $51,000

    I didn't try to go into details, but the salesperson claimed they were providing "steep" discounts for this demo/manager's car.

    So, any guesses on what "steep" means to them, and what a fair price would be for such a car?

    2024 Audi Q8 e-tron - 2017 911 C4S - 2025 BRZ - 2023 A6 Allroad - 2024 Genesis GV60 - 2019 Cayman

    These cars are going thru auction @ $14-14500 in unmolested condition.
    W/ 12,500 damage I am surprised the car wasn't totalled.
    That kind of damage means the frame has been tweaked and that is the kiss of death.
    I would expect that car to bring somewhere between $8-10,000, but it could bring less depending on the quality of the repair.

    Maintenance: Regularly done through dealer

    Thanks :)

    Agreed - I amazed they didn't total it out because it is now worth less than the cost of the repairs.
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
    I'm not amazed, cuz they don't care what it's worth now... it was $15 to buy you a new one vs. $12 to fix it... $3 in their pocket.

    The thing to do -- but there aren't a lot of people around to tell you this -- is to take the check and sell the wreck. This requires you to cough up some $$$ of your own money, though, and therefore is no fun. But any way you slice it, that money's gone.. unless you state has "diminished value".
    Most don't.

    Been there, done that, now I like older cars...

    DV often depends on whether he's claiming it on his own insurance or a third party's, but that's probably a question for the insurance topic.

    You have a good point about liking older cars. Many people like to buy a new vehicle, use it regularly, and keep it in pristine condition, but all of that effort is for naught when some jerk with no insurance and no driving skills damages it, and it never drives the same after the wreck, plus it ends up looking like Freddy Kruger did the body work.

    Hey guys! I've been gone from the board for quite a while. Is Terry still on here? I looked back a few pages and didn't see any posts from him. What about that crazy woman from Alaska that had to buy a new car every 4 weeks? Anyways...I'm trying to get a feel for the market values of SRT-10s...I've noticed that they've depreciated beautifully over the past few years.

    To sum up: what are the low mileage 2005 regular cab SRT-10s going for at the auction, and is Terry still around?

    The car was way too good of a deal to pass up, we needed something good on gas since Zippy is leaving in 6 weeks along with the Titan.
  • jm1fdjm1fd Member Posts: 9
    Wow. That's a lot stronger than I expected. A leftover new 2005 sold for $35k on eBay a week or two ago. I would've figured that they'd be going for no more than $30k used at the auction.
  • jm1fdjm1fd Member Posts: 9
    LOL. That's cool that you're still around.

    So where's Terry?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    With gas prices the way they are, give it another month and I would bet you would see lower auction prices.

    Figure $8-9000 at auction.
    Thats a car that has to stay in the Southwest because of the 2WD, but it doesn't hurt inside of that market.

    Volvomax,

    If you could give me a figure on my car, it would be greatly appreciated.

    2003 Sentra GXE
    Silver/Silver
    Auto Tranny w/ 28,600 miles
    The usual few scratches and nicks but cleans up real pretty. Wax it by a car wash every 3 months here in South Florida
    Power Pack
    Seat covers on the seats so fabric looks like new
    Been approached by several co-workers who want 1st shot at it cause they know it's maintained religiously with 4k dino changes & appropriate maintenance by the manual service
    Tires look pretty meaty still...about 75% tread left
    Brakes in great condition
    4 door sedan with the 1.8 engine
    Everything works

    Am thinking of a new Honda Civic or Volvo S40 as a replacement. TIA for your help.

    Yeah, the repair came to $12,500, and with the rental car they paid for $1,800 more. They still wouldn't total it. I had GAP insurance and told them about it, but got nowhere. Now is it back in the shop for some additional repairs they failed to make the first time (probably another $1,500).

    I'm going to go after them for diminished value since I'm a third-party claimant, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding someone to pur the value before and after in writing. My wife's afraid to drive the car for saftey reasons, so we may have to eat some negative equity and claim DV on the back end.

    What can you do? I can tell you I haven't been in good hands with Allstate, that's for sure.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Got a few miles on that one.
    Auction is running @ $8000-9000, which is pretty strong.
    Honestly, Jeeps aren't my thing, I'd probably hit it @$5-6000 myself. Don't know where these guys are laying those off.
    I'd guess a trade would be @$7000 if its in nice shape.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Sentras are running through between $6-7000.
    If it is REALLY nice maybe $7500
  • dkuhajdadkuhajda Member Posts: 487
    I would take it into your big Nissan dealer for a full inspection before signing on delivery of the car from the shop this second time. If they find anything, time to talk to Allstate about the car not being able to be repaired to the condition it was before the accident after two attempts so you want it totalled and they can keep the car.

    What state are you in? Try a Google search for "diminished value" (in quotes) and appraiser and your state name as secondary search terms. They charge for an inspection and opinion, but the diminished value appraiser will probably speak with you regarding what to expect with no obligation to you.

    Camry is probably $4-5000 trade.

    Pilot is tougher.
    Fender has been replaced, that means that the Honda body sticker is gone and thats a no-no.
    If the Carfax shows an accident, that compounds things.
    If it was a straight up car, probably $21500-22000 trade.
    W/ a replaced fender $20-21000
    W/ a bad Carfax $18-19000
