Trade in is probably going to be somewhere @ $15000
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Hmm, I was thinking it would be worth more than $4k.

I ahve seen several ads in the NW Suburbs for 06 Altimas for $13k.

13K retial for an '06 Altima? :confuse:

I think it might have a fine print "assume 3 or 4K cash down...etc." or the mileage may be high?

It does not look good for me when I want to trade in my '05 later on this year.

    Body Style: 4dr
    Engine: 1.8L Turbo automatic
    Driveline: fwd
    Mileage: 63000
    Color: black with grey interior
Major Options: alloy wheels, power moonroof, monsoon audio/cd
    Condition:
good condition inside and out, no major flaws
Tires - oldest 2 tires have 15,000 miles on them, others changed more recently due to flats incurred while driving
    Brakes: great shape
Maintenance: per dealership maintenance schedule every 5 - 10,000 miles
    Other: No damage... not wrecked

Just curious as to what the real world trade in value would be on this vehicle... I have seen this car (same color, trim and mileage) retailing for anywhere between 12,000 and 15,000 on Autotrader. Carmax has a few at around 13,000. Kbb and Edmunds both have it at less than 9,000. Seems low considering the retails. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

Thanks, I was hoping for 16000, and I will still push for 16k. I guess 15k shouldn't be too bad.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Remember that Retail is an asking price, not a getting price.
Most Jetta Turbo's w/ 60k on them are going thru between $7500-8000.

I was looking for a trade in value for this car. I was thinking it would be between $4500 and $5000. Is that realistic? Thanks for any help you can give.

    Bloomington, IL
    2001 Buick LeSabre Custom
    75000 miles
    Light Brown
Normal wear on body with a few paint chips on rear bumper.
    Tires are in good condition.

Located in Pittsburgh/Philly (depending on time of the year since I drive it back and forth to school):

    2001 Taurus SEL
    4-door
    3.0L DOHC Duratec Engine
    FWD
    52,000 Miles
    Black Exterior
    Tan Leather Interior
Rear Spoiler, Moonroof, Mach Audio, Center Console Shift

Does have strobe lights installed in front turn signals and rear tail lights, however I have replacement assemblies for all of them if/when I decide to sell the car. Also has an aftermarket Sirius Satellite Radio installed professionally with nothing visible except the cradle.

Interior and Exterior are clean with wear expected with a car thats almost 7 years old- No runs, hits, or errors.

Tires are brand new (less then 1500 miles on them), brakes are good, and I have dealer service records since I bought it in 2004- Oil has been changed every 3 months/3000 miles and all dealer recommended service has been done.

I know these things depreciate like its their job, I was just curious what trade-in and private party would be.

    Thanks,

    Hi Bret,

    Here ya go:

    03/15/07 LAFAYTTE Regular $1,500 64,340 Avg RED 4G 5 Yes
    03/01/07 DFW Regular $2,600 87,582 Avg BLACK 4G 5 Yes
    03/08/07 GTR TMPA Regular $3,600 101,392 Above BLACK 4G 5 Yes
    03/01/07 DET METR Lease $2,400 102,371 Avg BLACK 4G 5 Yes
    03/20/07 BISHOP B Lease $2,200 120,825 Avg WHITE 4G 5 Yes

What I really think is try $4,800 on the street and be ready to drop your price quickly if it don't sell... with a truck that age, and such a plain Jane model, it's all in the condition, and who in your neck of the woods happens to be looking for a stick.

The XLTs are bringing $1,000 to $1,500 more than yours.
I suspect yours is nice, so don't be too shy; it's income tax return season, and the $5k and under market is doing brisk business.

    Good luck,

Exterior deep blue, looks black unless in sun.

Excellent condition, minor scratches, all scheduled maintenance done.
On lease ending in July, need to know whether if I purchase and resell, I'll benefit. Or should I just turn the car in?
Am considering buying a new Lexus or, more likely, a hybrid Camry or Prius.

You could probably get your money back, maybe even turn a few hundred profit if the Warranty is transferable to the next owner. If you trade it make sure you cancel the warranty and get your refund back.

    Thanks for the help volvomax.
  • 28firefighter28firefighter Member Posts: 9,821
The warranty expired on 12/26/06....it was a 2001 that was sold in 2000 and the extended warranty covered it til 6 years/75,000 miles from the original inservice date.

I'm not sure what I wanna do with it at this point, but lately its been having some issues that are starting to add up cost wise....aside from that I love the car.

    Thanks for the advice.

Great to see you back here, if only on occasion.

Thanks for the Ranger valuation. Your retail prices are about in line with what I see locally. If I can sell it for $4200-4500ish, I'll be happy.

    Thanks again!!

Any idea what a realistic trade in value is for:

    2002 Chevy S-10 Base
    Black
    2WD/Regular Cab
    4.3L V-6
    5 Speed Manual
    Bedliner, Daytime Running Lights
    65000 miles
    St. Louis, Missouri
Good condition/not excellent (minor scratches and such-runs perfect)

    Thanks in advance

I'm just looking for trade-in value. I'm not interested in selling this myself... I just want to know what I should reasonably expect from the dealer. THANKS!

    Location: Baltimore, MD
    1997 Nissan Sentra GXE
    4dr
    1.6L 4cyl MANUAL transmission
    Front Wheel Drive
    ~146,000 miles
    Black exterior/Grey interior

    No options
Added Pioneer single CD player and 4 Panasonic 4-way speakers - have receipts

paint looks 10 years old, but no rust
very small dents low on the passenger side door
    panel dented near gas cap
    small chip in front windshield

Driver door and front panel look new - replaced within the past year because of damage in parking lot (they left notes... WOW:)

    Tires more than 50% worn
Front pads and rotors new as of Jan 07
Rear brakes unknown, but "ok" last time mechanic saw them

    CLEAN CARFAX

Changed oil regularly, but no proof (no receipts)
I have some receipts for major maintenance (should I bring these to the trade?)

I do plan to get it professionally washed before I turn it in, but not detailed - that seems excessive for this car.

    Again, thanks!

Honestly, its a $500-1000 car for a dealer.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
If it is an AWD, prob a $9-10,000 truck.
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
This one is for a friend who is deciding whether to buy it off lease or get a new one.

    2004 Lexus ES330
    45K miles
    Silver on black leather
    Navi
    Mark Levinson sound
    rear sunshade
    new Michelins
    new brake job
    fresh dealer service
    car looks like new.... literally
owned by an OCD Lexus lover.... always detailed to perfection, paint is showroom perfect, interior looks like no one has ever touched it, even the door seals have been frequently protected to maintain their suppleness.
Only flaw is a 6" chin scrape low on the front spoiler where the owner hit a curb (and almost committed harikari on the spot)

In Atlanta (garaged, locked, alarmed and guarded by two small, barky dogs)

I know you said you don't want to sell it yourself, but this is certainly going to be a car you can do much better selling yourself.

Actually, I am looking for a first car for my son, and this is exactly the type I would be excited to find for sale locally. For say $1,200ish?

trade in? $500 sound about right?

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • jlawrence01jlawrence01 Member Posts: 1,757
If you sell it yourself, you might be able to get $1500.

Few dealers would want that car - too many miles.
  • loki74loki74 Member Posts: 28
OK, I'll bite... I'm seeing (possibly) two to three times more money if I sell it myself. It would clearly make a much better lump payment on my loan than whatever discount it may offer up-front.

I would need selling advice, since I would be a FIRST TIME seller. Where can I get this kind of advice?

    Thanks for helping me reconsider.

Put an ad in the local Auto Trader or similar magazine.
Meet potential buyers in a public place.
    Insist on some ID.
    Only take a cashiers check.
    Good Luck
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Well, trade in would be between $19500-20,000
Private party a couple grand more.
  • cdnpinheadcdnpinhead Member Posts: 5,618
Volvomax's advice is sound. I've had some luck with Auto Trader, but I've had better luck with the newspaper classifieds. Don't forget Craig's list.

In the price range you're looking at (& it's the same I usually deal with for my driven-into-the-ground vehicles), cash money is what works. Get your title signed (or whatever your state requires) & figure out where there's a notary on the weekend, and you're good to go.

    Good luck.

Frankly, in this price range (and I have sold a few) you are quite likely to get a roll of 50s instead of a cashiers check!

I have found that the old wad of cash is an effective negotiating tool. Get some guy asking $1,500, and pull out 12 Benjamines, and watch the eyes get wide!

If you were near me, and the car was as clean as you described, I would peel of $1,200 in cash tomorrow for it.

Cash in hand beat a couple hundred for in a "few" hours.
  • loki74loki74 Member Posts: 28
OK, lets switch this up a bit... Here's some additional information on that same '97 Sentra... I assume this would change the private sale value a bit.

    The Good:
    It has WORKING cruise control
    It does NOT leak oil

    The BAD:
    It needs one CV Boot
    The gas gauge is flaky
It does leak coolant, but VERY slowly (example: I refilled the tank 2 months ago, and it hasn't needed any since)

I plan to provide a report from my mechanic reflecting this.
    ...and a CarFax copy.

I also have questions about how to work the titling/registration/insurance until the car gets sold. Where can I ask those questions?

These forums are great! Thanks so much for the advice!

". . .how to work the titling/registration/insurance until the car gets sold."

Title & registration are state-specific. I only know the drill in Arizona, but someone else on here may live in your state. There's usually a notary involved, though, so it's good to know where to find one nearby on the weekend or in the evening.

Insurance is no big deal. As soon as the registration/title is signed over, go home & call your agent to have the insurance cancelled. Normally what I do is sell my old car after I've bought a new one, so the daily-driver insurance has already been transferred to the new vehicle. I then get a 30- or 60-day rider for the car I'm selling -- it's usually really reasonable, since the car won't be driven except for test drives, or if it is, the new one isn't, so the exposure's the same.

Once again, good luck. This is definitely the way to go with high-mileage vehicles.

Hi, could any of the gurus here pleae enlighten me as to what a fair trade-in or private party sale price would be a 2004 volvo s40 auto 1.9t engine(old style, not the 2004.5 update), with luxury package(leather, moonroof, power seat...) and a rear spoiler? The car has about 26000 miles and I think is in good condition.

    Thank you!
