Yeah, plus I told the wife, and while she was a little intrigued, it's not really what she wants.

I am looking at purchasing a 2008 Pilot EXL 4WD with navigation system with ~4,500 miles on it tomorrow (Sunday).

How much off New price is reasonable to expect? The Dealer is asking $27,990 plus doc fee +TTL.

I will be trading in a 99 Pontiac Montana Minivan with ~123,000 miles. I would say the condition is fair. Lots of extras. Traction Control. Compass, Outside Temp. It has leather seats, CD , automatic door, White with taupe exterior and taupe leather seats, automatic everything. Interior is pretty good. Some dings on outside. A few spots that need paint. Tires are good. Brakes ok. Was rear ended in Sept 07; a few scratches to bumper that still need fixing (insurance has said they would pay.)

Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!
  • dtownfbdtownfb Member Posts: 2,918
Invoice on a new Pilot EXL 4wd is $32,905. There is a $3500 incentive on these vehicles and you have to account for the 4500 miles. $27,995 seems like a fair price. Of course, Pilots (and most mid-size SUV) are not in high demand. For Honda to have this large of a cash incentive means they must be moving slow. I would really work the dealer to seel how low you could get them.

As far as your trade, i would not expect much. If they give you anything over $1000, that is their way of "lowering" the price of the Pilot.

    Hello Tidester,
I am trying to determine the real value of my 2 Volvos, coming off lease in June. Anything you can tell me will be more than I know! Kelly Blue Book values are lower than the Residual, so I am not sure what to do. I am happy keeping the cars, just want to SAVE SOME $$$. I am in CT. Here are the details:

    2005 VolvoS80 T AWD,Leather,Climate,will have 40K miles in June( 10 over=$2K).
    may need tires
    RV=$24,000
    KBB Value is $16.2-$22.6

    2005 VolvoS60 2.5TAWD,LEATHER,CLIMATE,will have 30K miles in June.needs body work=$2K.May need tires.
    RV=$20,400
    KBB Value is $15.8-$22.1

I would borrow the $ to purchase at 5%(HELOC, not car loan) and payback over 5 years

I have 3 teenage drivers so I am happy with old, safe, reliable cars for now-but don't want to overpay. Can you help me figure this one out?
  • s60leasers60leaser Member Posts: 61
Thanks Volvomax-Do they typically negotiate the Residual value??I would assume they don't want the cars? And I assume you mean tghat I shouldn't buy them if they will not come down closer to value from the current RV?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
the S80 is currently worth @ $15k or so.

S60 is worth about the same.

Whether you buy the cars or not will depend on whether or not the lease co will negotiate with you.
  • 03cobra03cobra Member Posts: 37
What do you think the trade value would be.

    Minneapolis
02 540IA, sport pkg, premium and cold weather packages
    4.4 V8, auto step
    89000 miles
    Black/tan interior
very good condition, 3 door dings. other than that perfect.
    Tires- new(<4000 miles)
    Maintenance all at dealer
    CPO until May this yr/100k

    Thank You!
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
If the lender is Volvo finance, no they don't negotiate.

Some of the banks do, but even then you aren't going to pay auction price.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    should bring @ $12,000
  • s60leasers60leaser Member Posts: 61
Thanks for the help-I think I am dropping these off with the dealer...in June anyway.
    I really appreciate your help.
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
Of course they're gonna charge you the $2K for the extra mileage on the S80, + maybe the tires. And charge you the $2K for the damage on the S60, + probably the tires. (They should at least give you some Xanax while you're writing out the checks!)

But it Didn't sound like buying them would be a good deal either......talk about the downsides of leasing..... good luck with it tho.

What would be the trade-in on this car?

    New York (Long Island)
    2005 Porsche Boxster S convertible
280hp six, 6 speed manual, RWD
    Mileage: 9500
Color: seal grey metallic, gray soft top, sand beige partial leather interior
Conditon is close to new -- no dings or scratches, tires with more than half of tread life, brakes excellent, car serviced annually due to low mileage
Options: heated seats, bi-xenon headlights, navigation, windstop, Bose stereo, custom floor mats
    Original MSRP $60,600

Am I likely to get more from a Porsche dealer?

    Thanks for any advice.
  • blckislandguyblckislandguy Member Posts: 1,150
Vovlovmax (and others), the new XC70 doesn't seem to be much of an improvement to me. While I could be wrong I sense from the reviews that it is no faster and has a bit less cargo room in the rear. The S80 interior is of course nicer and there is more leg room in the back seat.

As a result I I wonder how much a lightly used '07 with the usual good packages (Premium, Cold Weather, etc.) will cost vs a new one?
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Funny, but I consider the new XC70 to be a huge improvement over the old one.
Although its not any faster(for now, there is a T6 version coming) it is more comfortable, smoother and more of a luxury car than it was before.
I also think it looks better inside and out. There is also more passenger room than before.

Having said that, you will still pay in the high $20's to low $30's for an 07 XC70. Remember that these are going to be ex rental cars.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
I would guess that the car would bring @ $38,000 or so.

I could see a Porsche dealer offering more than a non Porsche dealer.
Although, I would suspect that the market for this car will be stronger in a couple of months or so.

I'm looking for a trade-in/private sale value for the following:

    Indianapolis
    2000 Honda Accord EX Coupe
    V6
    Automatic
    125,000 Miles
    Dark Green exterior
    Tan Leather Interior
Sun Roof, power seat, single CD
tires, brakes, belts, hoses all replaced in the last 6 months
    all maintenance up to date
Mechanically it is in very good shape. Everything works.

The interior is in good shape, with some wear on the driver's seat.

It has major scratches on the hood and trunk (long story involving ice, a scraper and a daughter's boyfriend). The rest of the paint is in good condition. It has been wrecked and repaired before, bumper, hood, and one fender replaced. There is no existing body damage. I'm wondering if it would be better to repaint the hood and trunk before I sell/trade it, or leave it as it is.

    Thanks for your advice.

Nashville, Tennessee. Silver Odyssey EX w/ leather and Rear Entertainment System. Needs a good bath, but otherwise in good condition. Michelins are 90% to the good, and everything works. 64,000 miles just getting broke in, But wife wants a new one. Trade in Value? It is currently on a month to month lease with Honda. Pay off is 14.4K. I can turn it in for @ $600 out of pocket. Do I have any trade value? Thanks
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    $13-14,000 sounds right to me.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Car really doesn't have much in the way of trade in value as it is.

    So, I'd sell it privately.
Since the car has already been wrecked and repaired, you don't have anything to lose by getting the hood and trunk painted.
  • longislander1longislander1 Member Posts: 112

I saw a similar car on the local (Burlington twp.) Craigs the other day. It was a 2000, 84K, leather/roof (and I think alloys). That one they were asking $5,750.

Can anyone give me some examples of what prices are being paid at the auctions for the 2007 Taurus SE ex-rentals? There are lots of them for sale by dealers here in North Florida with 25K - 35K miles for around $10,000 with some asking prices as low as $9000 so wonder just how much room for dealing there is in those asking prices.

My son has been looking for a car and decided he likes the Taurus. I have driven many of them as rentals over the years and think they are OK except I don't trust the transaxle much past 60K.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Avg auction price is @ $8,500
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
No wonder Ford is building fewer fleet cars. That's a rather pathetic residual.

OTOH, it's a bargain as a used car.

I'm sure the Five Hundred does better.
  • jlawrence01jlawrence01 Member Posts: 1,757
    Two things:

    1) Several friends (in Cincinnati) bought NEW 2007 Taurus SEs for $11.5k. In other words, they were pretty much giving them away. You'll get as low a price as you ask for. I would start really low and let them talk you up. I would offer $8k and see what you can get. NEVER OVERPAY FOR A TAURUS!!

    2) Most of the transmission problems in the Taurus were in the 1992-1996 timeframe. I think that a 2007 is a safe purchase although over time, you'll spend more than a Camry for repairs. I have had a number in my fleet and they have been reliable.

    3) Try the pre-2006 Chevy Impala. It is larger and more fuel efficient that the Taurus. They are also a bit more expensive.

Do realize that depreciation is a USED car buyers best friend (if you plan to hold on to the car long-term).
  • kynativekynative Member Posts: 4
A selling price of $11.5K certainly makes the residuals look a lot better. I had suspected Ford was blowing them out at great prices to the fleets, but would not have guessed quite that low. How were individuals able to get those since they were 'fleet only'? I am guessing that they were able buy from a dealer that was handling a bunch fleet sales, but don't really know.

I have seen anecdotal evidence that the later models do have less transmission problems. If I read the warranty info from Ford correctly a 2007 with 30K would still have a 1 year/6K bumper to bumper warranty remaining and 4 year/30K power train warranty since they extended it for 2007s. Most of these cars are at least 18 months old and the very last 2007 Taurus was made in late October of 2006.

I have suggested the Impala to my son as well as the Buick LeSabres from 2000 - 2005. I have a lot more faith in the GM engines and transmissions. The 3800 in particular is quite dependable although it is not the smoothest sounding by a long shot.

I have bought several new cars over the years and kept them 10 or 15 years so I did not worry about the depreciation as much. That having been said, I would still have been better off to buy a 2 year old car and let someone else eat that initial drop. Whenever I think along these lines I begin to believe I won't be buying another new car.

At any rate a 2007 Taurus with 30K for less than $9 - 10K is a lot of good transportation for the money. Thanks for the information.
  • jlawrence01jlawrence01 Member Posts: 1,757
Supposedly, the 2006-07 Taurus was "fleet-only" per the Ford Fleet Guide that I get each year. However, I saw quite a few new ones on local lots in Chicago. My guess is that if you asked for one, it could be had. Do remember that a LOT of older people really liked the Taurus up to the end. My father was upset that he had to upgrade to the Ford Fusion.

If you are getting a one year old car with 30k, more than likely, it was from a rental fleet. I would also suspect - but cannot prove - that the vehicle probably came from Avis/Budget as they were buying a ton of those vehicles and sending them out as both compacts and intermediates.

A lot of people that I work with swear by the Buick Regals. However, finding one in relatively mint condition is as easy as finding a hen's tooth ... and you will pay close to Toyota prices.

    Hi,
I recently left a job where my hours were reduced from 40 to 27. Started a new place which was too informal and a waste of my time. Still have time to find something soon. But anyway, my lease payment is due on the 28th. If I can't find anything by then, I'll have to trade in this baby. Unfortunately, it is a 36 mo. lease
