How much off New price is reasonable to expect? The Dealer is asking $27,990 plus doc fee +TTL.
I will be trading in a 99 Pontiac Montana Minivan with ~123,000 miles. I would say the condition is fair. Lots of extras. Traction Control. Compass, Outside Temp. It has leather seats, CD , automatic door, White with taupe exterior and taupe leather seats, automatic everything. Interior is pretty good. Some dings on outside. A few spots that need paint. Tires are good. Brakes ok. Was rear ended in Sept 07; a few scratches to bumper that still need fixing (insurance has said they would pay.)
Any thoughts? Thanks for your help!
As far as your trade, i would not expect much. If they give you anything over $1000, that is their way of "lowering" the price of the Pilot.
I am trying to determine the real value of my 2 Volvos, coming off lease in June. Anything you can tell me will be more than I know! Kelly Blue Book values are lower than the Residual, so I am not sure what to do. I am happy keeping the cars, just want to SAVE SOME $$$. I am in CT. Here are the details:
2005 VolvoS80 T AWD,Leather,Climate,will have 40K miles in June( 10 over=$2K).
may need tires
RV=$24,000
KBB Value is $16.2-$22.6
2005 VolvoS60 2.5TAWD,LEATHER,CLIMATE,will have 30K miles in June.needs body work=$2K.May need tires.
RV=$20,400
KBB Value is $15.8-$22.1
I would borrow the $ to purchase at 5%(HELOC, not car loan) and payback over 5 years
I have 3 teenage drivers so I am happy with old, safe, reliable cars for now-but don't want to overpay. Can you help me figure this one out?
S60 is worth about the same.
Whether you buy the cars or not will depend on whether or not the lease co will negotiate with you.

Some of the banks do, but even then you aren't going to pay auction price.
I really appreciate your help.
But it Didn't sound like buying them would be a good deal either......talk about the downsides of leasing..... good luck with it tho.

2005 Porsche Boxster S convertible
280hp six, 6 speed manual, RWD
Mileage: 9500
Color: seal grey metallic, gray soft top, sand beige partial leather interior
Conditon is close to new -- no dings or scratches, tires with more than half of tread life, brakes excellent, car serviced annually due to low mileage
Options: heated seats, bi-xenon headlights, navigation, windstop, Bose stereo, custom floor mats
Original MSRP $60,600
Am I likely to get more from a Porsche dealer?
Thanks for any advice.
As a result I I wonder how much a lightly used '07 with the usual good packages (Premium, Cold Weather, etc.) will cost vs a new one?
Although its not any faster(for now, there is a T6 version coming) it is more comfortable, smoother and more of a luxury car than it was before.
I also think it looks better inside and out. There is also more passenger room than before.
Having said that, you will still pay in the high $20's to low $30's for an 07 XC70. Remember that these are going to be ex rental cars.
I could see a Porsche dealer offering more than a non Porsche dealer.
Although, I would suspect that the market for this car will be stronger in a couple of months or so.

Mechanically it is in very good shape. Everything works.
The interior is in good shape, with some wear on the driver's seat.
It has major scratches on the hood and trunk (long story involving ice, a scraper and a daughter's boyfriend). The rest of the paint is in good condition. It has been wrecked and repaired before, bumper, hood, and one fender replaced. There is no existing body damage. I'm wondering if it would be better to repaint the hood and trunk before I sell/trade it, or leave it as it is.
Thanks for your advice.

So, I'd sell it privately.
Since the car has already been wrecked and repaired, you don't have anything to lose by getting the hood and trunk painted.

Wondering what the value of this 1999 V70 base model might be.
Seems the price is a bit low, so I'm suspicious.

My son has been looking for a car and decided he likes the Taurus. I have driven many of them as rentals over the years and think they are OK except I don't trust the transaxle much past 60K.
OTOH, it's a bargain as a used car.
I'm sure the Five Hundred does better.
1) Several friends (in Cincinnati) bought NEW 2007 Taurus SEs for $11.5k. In other words, they were pretty much giving them away. You'll get as low a price as you ask for. I would start really low and let them talk you up. I would offer $8k and see what you can get. NEVER OVERPAY FOR A TAURUS!!
2) Most of the transmission problems in the Taurus were in the 1992-1996 timeframe. I think that a 2007 is a safe purchase although over time, you'll spend more than a Camry for repairs. I have had a number in my fleet and they have been reliable.
3) Try the pre-2006 Chevy Impala. It is larger and more fuel efficient that the Taurus. They are also a bit more expensive.
Do realize that depreciation is a USED car buyers best friend (if you plan to hold on to the car long-term).
I have seen anecdotal evidence that the later models do have less transmission problems. If I read the warranty info from Ford correctly a 2007 with 30K would still have a 1 year/6K bumper to bumper warranty remaining and 4 year/30K power train warranty since they extended it for 2007s. Most of these cars are at least 18 months old and the very last 2007 Taurus was made in late October of 2006.
I have suggested the Impala to my son as well as the Buick LeSabres from 2000 - 2005. I have a lot more faith in the GM engines and transmissions. The 3800 in particular is quite dependable although it is not the smoothest sounding by a long shot.
I have bought several new cars over the years and kept them 10 or 15 years so I did not worry about the depreciation as much. That having been said, I would still have been better off to buy a 2 year old car and let someone else eat that initial drop. Whenever I think along these lines I begin to believe I won't be buying another new car.
At any rate a 2007 Taurus with 30K for less than $9 - 10K is a lot of good transportation for the money. Thanks for the information.
If you are getting a one year old car with 30k, more than likely, it was from a rental fleet. I would also suspect - but cannot prove - that the vehicle probably came from Avis/Budget as they were buying a ton of those vehicles and sending them out as both compacts and intermediates.
A lot of people that I work with swear by the Buick Regals. However, finding one in relatively mint condition is as easy as finding a hen's tooth ... and you will pay close to Toyota prices.
I recently left a job where my hours were reduced from 40 to 27. Started a new place which was too informal and a waste of my time. Still have time to find something soon. But anyway, my lease payment is due on the 28th. If I can't find anything by then, I'll have to trade in this baby. Unfortunately, it is a 36 mo. lease
