    trade value on the subie is $21-$22k. So that asking price is a bit high. $25k purchase price would be the MOON on that. Is it CPO? That's worth a bit more for the warranty. Maybe go like $25,500 in that case.

    Look for about $10k on your volvo.

    I saw a new Ody at the auto show. If you need a minivan, I don't think you can go wrong with it. Tons and tons of room inside.

    But the tranny??? So much bad stuff about the previous generations I'd be leary of Honda & stick with Toyota. Honda made a bad product & then didn't do the right thing for most when the problems happened...they dropped the ball with their customers so there is a trust issue now. People lately seem to have long memories when a car company screws them over which is a problem, great new product or what. I for one, are less forgiving as I age since corporate America needs to learn that folks now expect the best product with plenty of corporate responsibility to back it up. You loose that, you're screwed!

    We're coming out of an '05 Ody with the miles piling up...I think we're over 100k can't remember. It had a few first year issues but otherwise has been a great travel vehicle. I know some of the older Ody's had tranny issues but the 3rd gen (and hopefully the 4th) seems to have gotten over most of that. The people I know that had earlier models with transmission issues all had them taken care of even at very high miles. If anything my experience with Honda (this is our first Honda auto) has been very good. Toyota on the other hand...I have never had good experiences either from a sales standpoint or service. Luckily out of the half-dozen or so Toyotas I've owned and gobs of miles I've only needed a dealer a few times.

    So we've now tried to buy a new Sienna exactly like I listed above and both dealership have been terrible to deal with. It took three days just to get a salesman to return my call from the one dealership. Wife is also PO'd about the process so far and has loosened up her opinion of the Ody after looking at them in person. We're going to look at one in Dark Cherry Pearl w/Beige which is the only Ody color combo she even remotely likes.

    Honda made a bad product & then didn't do the right thing for most when the problems happened...they dropped the ball with their customers so there is a trust issue now.

    From what I've seen, I cannot fully agree. Yes, they made a bunch of bad trannys, but Honda stepped up and replaced them too. I have two friends that have had transmission replacements, which is obviously a high rate of occurance. But Honda replaced them both, no questions asked; one of these was an MDX with over 100k and they still replaced it under warranty. And guess what? Both of these friends bought, you guessed it, a Honda since. Trust re-gained.

    Myself, I've had 2 Hondas with the V6 and 5AT, and never had a problem. And I haven't heard of transmission failure on a RDX, so I'm feeling pretty good.

    This one should be interesting (orphan brand plus a gas hog, when gas prices are going up). I'll be interested to know what the experts say.

    I came close to buying a used Volvo XC90 during the last gas price spike. Unfortunately, by the time I was ready to buy, gas prices had gone down and used car prices had gone up!

    Have you checked out the forum here that deals with that? A lot of unhappy posters there! Plus it also affected their 6 cylinder Accord coupes as I recall!

    This isn't a trade in, but a question. I'm in L.A. and there are suddenly a ton of 08 Civic LX auto lease returns with 30k miles on dealer lots. Most are priced at about $15000. Considering that trade in for this car is around 10,000, and auction price was probably less since there are so many, will a dealer take 11,000? 12,000?

    as always with a car, there is only 1 way to know for sure. Go to the dealer, and make the offer.

    If they let you walk, then the answer is no.

    I 'll leave the question to the experts (which I am not) but I did spend 4 years working as a controller for a car dealership.Typically (at least in the dealership I worked at)when a car gets traded in (a newer one like an 08 civic) it gets run thru the service department which does as much stuff on the car as they can legitimize (seperate profit center from used cars).By the time it is ready to go on the lot the 10k trade in probably has a cost of 11-12k to the used car manager.So an 11 -12k offer probably makes little sense to the used car department

    Used Civics at market value are rarely a good idea 'cuz the market is nuts.

    Is there much range of warranty time and mileage periods between CPO cars and the different brands that offer them?

    Are they generally a shorter term and inferior coverage to the OEM warranty when the car was new?

    Is the warranty an OEM warranty?

    Approximately what percentage premium is applied to a CPO car compared to a similar condition/ miles etc sold with an after market warranty? (assuming a CPO wty is OEM supplied)

    Could be the difference in region, but here in the northeast, trade-in on an '08 LX 4-door auto with 30k would be $10,500-$11k. As someone else suggested, it should be hitting the lot at about $11,500 cost to the dealer. Civics are used car gold, so it is highly doubtful anyone will let one go for less than even $13k unless they have a glut and a slow month.

    I'd be more than happy with that, I'm going to try and sell it on my own first. Although with gas at $3.50 and the recall they just announced I'm sure the buyer pool is somewhat reduced. I'm not in a huge hurry to get rid of it yet so I'll see if I have any luck on my own, but may end up having to sell to a dealer.

    Bummer.

    In the snow I want even more control - it's more important to me than it is when the pavement is dry, actually.

    Same with the Infiniti G - AWD comes in auto only.

    even if an AWD MT existed in theory, odds are you would never see one, assuming there was even one produced!

    Stick RWD CTS models are pretty rare. I did see one last year advertised at a local dealer. Poor man's special, did not even have a moonroof!

    I've sniffed around at these as well. Car and Driver loved the slushbox (10 Best list) but slammed the manual for bad clutch feel and the engine wheezing between shifts. I'd probably stick to the auto based on that.

    The transmission tunnel on the CTS seems to take up most of the front passenger's legroom. At the car show, it seemed like the CTS-V was worse in this regard, but that may just be my imagination.

    dealer would probably be at $4k on the '04 and somewhere around $3k-$3500 on the '00.

    Fair private party as they now sit would be $6995 asking and $6k taking on the '04 and about $500 less on the '00.

    I knew this one wouldn't be good when I saw 2.7T in the description. These have pretty bad resale. You have nice low miles, but it doesn't help much here, i'm afraid.

    A dealer is going to be at $6k-$6500 on it.

    Private party? Well, detail the hell out of it, hope the gremlins stay at bay during test drives, and list it for $8995. Take any offer over $7499 that comes your way.

    Be glad you didn't get the V8. That was about $10k more new and only worth $500 more now. Ouch!

    Oh, I dunno about the engine, honestly. But Audis don't have the best reputation in general. I believe its mostly for things not drivetrain related.
