There are many experts here. I am not one of them.

However, that won't stop me from giving you an opinion. Suck it up and find a way to be OK with the Infiniti for now. If you have a short commute, you're not in it all that long anyway, and if you keep driving low, low miles, your depreciation should level out much sooner. $10k in 1.25 years is like having paid $670/month to own it. That's a helluva car payment or a lease payment. I am partial to Infinitis (have owned 2), but not at $670/month.

Any of you experts have guesstimated projection of what this might be worth in another year or so? (assuming market stays the same-ish)

Well, a comparable '08 with 17k miles is $22,500, so that's probably as good of a guess as any.
And just FYI, an '07 with 25k is ~$19,500.

Much better. Looks like it'd be expected to cost about $2,500-3,000 in depreciation/year rather than the $7-8K/year it took right away. At a certain point, you can justify the depreciation vs. use/time outcome.

Looks like I might need to hold on to this for a while. At least I only paid $32,000 for it, which at the time felt like a good deal. Thanks to Kristie H, I'm now realizing that maybe the smart play would have been to go with a lease. Thanks again to you both.

but with a lease, you would have been stuck 3 years whether you liked it or not.

Getting a new car cheap rarely works in your favor. Cheap new means cheap used. Although... a $6k real-world depreciation hit for a $30k+ car that is effectively more than 2 years old ain't all that bad.

If you are buying check the tire wear and for other signs of abuse. My concern with a car like that would be how the previous owner treated it. Try to talk to the previous owner directly, if that's possible.

    55,000 miles

    V6/Automatic/PW/PDL/PS

    Recent Oil/Filter Change
    Recent Transmission Fluid Change
    Recent Coolant System Flush/Fill

I would describe the exterior condition as "rough" by edmunds standards. The car was driven by my (almost) 94 year old grandmother. While extremely mechanically sound, she backed into a lot of walls, cars, poles... Which is the reason she is NOT driving anymore.

Might be looking to use it as a trade in. Maybe I could get $1200? Private sale, maybe $1800?

pretty crazy price on the 325xiT considering he won't negotiate. Even if he went crazy and paid $8k at the auction, paid for the fees and transport, and let's say he put a new set of shoes on it and painted the seats .... we could stretch it and say he's into it for all of $9k ... so $11k purchase is the end of the world, IMHO.

The 525 is worth about $6k on a trade. So, again, they might be into it for $7k, making that a decent price as long as it all checks out. But a 525 wagon with an auto? ugh!

really tough to price without seeing the damage. If it was clean, it would be worth $2k-$2500 trade-in.

I figured the 3 series was high, but if you want an AWD stick (which is something I did not even realize they made) it is going to cost you, being so rare.

now, in the 9K range, I would have already taken a ride up to look at it! Though I would prefer a RWD model, being cheaper to run, more reliable, and nicer to drive. And I have no real need for AWD.

The damage is bad, cosmetic, but bad. Bumpers are scraped up at all 4 corners, a couple of really bad resprays, dented fenders, no damage to the doors, but you get the idea.

Actually, with the E46 wagon, it's finding one that isn't AWD that is hard... A stick, RWD with sport pkg is the ultimate...

The 525i has the same engine..... but, it is RWD... if it had a stick, I would take that one in a minute...

    technical difficulties folks-

Let me give you the skinny on the link that didn't work:

    2008 BMW x3 3.0si - CPO
    Black/Black Leatherette
    6-speed manual transmission
    Xenon Headlights
    13,826 miles
    Asking $29,999

    YIKES!

This particular X3 probably didn't even sticker for $40K & it is already 3 years old with a brand new body style out. Yes the miles are super-low, almost too low if you ask me. A stick X3 is rare because only certified lunatics like myself, roadburner, & stickguy would even THINK of ordering one like that (Roadburner's current X3 is a slushbox & so was mine, so that tells you something). I know the low miles account for something, but with just under 14K miles there was NO RECONDITIONING involved whatsoever, unless one of the wheels was curb rashed.

The average car loses what, half its value in 3 years? Say it is a BMW that historically has better resale than average + the low mileage make it only loose 45% of its value in 3 years. For $30K they'd have a helluva better time selling a 40,000 mile X3 with a slushbox, NAV, leather, premium, & cold weather.

Maybe this car sits for a few months & I strike when the time is right:) LOL

Oh, that was a different one. I found a blue one, 2008, 38K on it for $31,000! Could not tell what options it had.

I agree about the AT probably being more appropriate for one of these, and way the heck easier to sell down the road.

what must be even more rare is a RWD version.

The 6-speed automatics on the '07-'08 models is terrible, though... A stick is the only way I'd own another one... I bet you'd sell it in a minute, if it wasn't a stripper... You only need one fanatic.

    They don't make RWD X3s, I don't think....

they don't now, but at one point, you could get a RWD X3. Doubt they sold many.

You are probably right about selling the oddball, just don't try to trade it in. and the older it gets, the easier it will be.

if the price supports it, I don't mind a stripper. As long as it has a power drivers seat and a moonroof, I am good to go. Really don't want a lot of the techno fru fru nonsense anyway.

the only one I ever put much seat time in (on the road) was I think a 2005.

Pretty sure though If I keep her out of the new model, I could convince my wife a 2008 CPO is just fine! Especially once the prices drop below 25K.

actually, these seem to be reliable enough that I would buy a non-CPO (for the appropriate cost savings) and take my chances. 3K in the bank to start can pay for a lot of repairs!

If I was the one with the X3, I'd be in the manual club, too. But I would never order a new X3 for myself, so it doesn't matter. :P

anyhoo... a stick is a BIG hit on this car. $1400 deduct! And a little $200 hit for not having leather brings it down to a mighty $23k trade-in value. That means, as a CPO BMW, you should be able to get it for $27,500.

I'm with stickguy... I just don't agree with the price premium for CPO bimmers. My understanding is the warranty costs the dealer about $2500.

On our '04 we had the passenger seat SRS sensor replaced under the new car warranty. We never made a claim on the CPO warranty. At 110,000 miles we've only replaced the brakes(60K) once and tires twice.

So the dealer provides a free carfax report. I click on the link and the X3 was "driven" an average of somewhere around 4800 miles per year for the duration of its 3 year lease.

The original inservice date was the end of December 2010. It became a CPO car at the beginning of Feb. 2011. So the truck has pretty much been sitting on their lot for 2 months already.

Hmmmm. Maybe I should clean up the Prelude for a craig's list sale & head on down there at the end of the month? :confuse: :P
