OK, seen by the dawn's early light, and without the aid of Bells' otherwise excellent Two Hearted Ale, I'd say you have a point.

Too much time spent reading about the Panther's indestructible powertrain, I reckon. The front-drivers ain't like that.

    Sooo... how about this puppy:
    http://www.crippencars.com/used-inventory/2FAFP74W95X108144

My friend also looked at that one, found evidence of good routine maintenance, and liked the way it drove.

What's it worth wholesale, and what should he offer to pay for it?

    Thanks in advance,

Don't trade that, private-party that bad boy and I bet you net at least a couple grand more.

People line up to buy used Honda/Toyota vans.

Yup, sold our '05 EX-L R&N in one day for full asking price last year. I'm sure older gen is in less demand but I'm betting it's worth a good bit more than those trade numbers. Did pretty good on that one...better than 50% after five years and 90k miles. Honda's bring stupid money used...I'd never buy one!

Easy tiger, We have a CapOne sale going on.. been busy :D

$5500 is fair... trade mid to upper 3s.. and if it's as nice as it looks, I'd go for it.

If it's on there for 5500 tho you gotta be able to snag it for 5k id think.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Forgive the brain fart.. But you can't get a Premium Plus without Navi, right?

Assuming it's got Navi.. 33,500 to 34k out here. I couldn't find much data on the west coast... might get closer to $36k out there. If it had a black interior you could add another $1500-2k.

No Navi? Deduct $2-2500 off of those figures.
  • td_sftd_sf Member Posts: 18
Yes - has Navigation as part of Prem Plus.

Residual is 26k and lease ends in Jan ... thinking about rolling the equity into same exact 2012.

Thanks for your help! Was that auction data that you used?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Auction data is tricky on em.. it doesnt always differentiate Diesels.

Galves is $34k, Ought to be worth between Black Book Clean and Average.

I'm looking for trade in value on a 2009 base TSX, 4door, 4 cyl, fwd, auto, black/parchment leather interior, 34k miles, excellent condition, all scheduled maintenance. I did have significant hail damage last year, all repaired through the dealer, has been repainted. Original tires. Location - Oklahoma City, OK. Thanks for your help.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Repaint... total repaint?

If that's the case.. and even if the carfax is otherwise clean... I'd be as low as $14,500-15k to maybe as much as $16-16500 depending on the quality of the repaint.

Unfortunately a total repaint really hurts your car's value. If it was free of paintwork figure I would be around $18500 or so.

    Hi Bill,
    Bought the car.
I drove it... not bad, but AC was bad Monday and had been freshly recharged; and the parking brake cable was stuck -- like 99% of them in MI.
Other than that, very nice car.

Given that the asking price was $1-2k lower than others in the area, I wrote down $5,200 + fix parking brake cable + 3 mo. warranty on AC.

They came back with $5,7 for 'that' or $5 + TTL 'as is.'

Needless to say we took the later option. A swift $2k behind the asking price. Good deal for my friend; OK profit for the store, everybody happy.

Thanks a bunch for the help -- makes all the difference in the world.

    Cheers -Mathias

Yes, total repaint. It was pretty severe hail damage. Replaced the hood, roof, trunk lid, most of the trim. I have it on a 3 year lease, but my dealer is after me to bring it in to trade on a new Acura. I don't know how the hail damage affects that deal, he hasn't seen the car yet. He may not want to pay off my lease once he realizes its been repainted.

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmmm... toughie.

I'm thinking $31k? No book on this one yet... Theyre doing $32-33k at the sale.. problem is, they're doing that at Ford Factory sales.. a Ford dealer might be $33k on it.. but.. how much is a new one?

See, 2011 Elantra GLS bases are doing $17-17500 at auction, but as a Hyundai dealer I have NO interest AT ALL at those prices.. for a car like that to make sense to me I'd have to be $15,500 tops.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Sunroof?

I'd be $13k-13,500 assuming a moonroof and no paintwork and clean condition.

But I am a Hyundai dealer.

It does not have a sunroof. I have not looked at in person. The history report says no work, one owner. Being a Hyundai dealer, what are your thoughts about that car and how it compares to the current Sonata. I like the mileage of the 11/12, but have driven a V6 Sonata before and thought it felt good. I like the color combo, and it only has 12K miles. They are asking 16.9K. I figured it should be bought for 15-16K. The pictures look nice, i know they all do.

    The S80 T6 saga continues...

The wife has decided she MUST have a convertible, so we spent all day yesterday looking at every different convertible with four "seats" there is. Including both of the E46 convertibles at the Savannah Volvo store. Sadly, both were badly ratted out. The green '05 had a clear bra that was badly peeling, and peeling the clear with it. And the worn leather, etc etc.

So, long story short, her favorite of the day was:

    2008 VW Eos Lux
2.0T/6 speed DSG (the only way they come)
    black over tan (real) leather
    42,100 miles
    am/fm/CD/sirius
    dual auto climate
It's off lease out of Atlanta, and is a CPO car, which gives me much more comfort.
in 2008, VW still had the 4/50 warranty, so the CPO is another 2/24 on top of that.

Overall, in excellent shape. The black shows evidence of many a drive through car wash, but no hits or runs otherwise.

Its at the VW store in the big automall in Bluffton, SC, 10 miles from Hilton Head.

They have it at $22,850, but it strikes me a little closer to $20 ish.

    Here's the link:

    http://www.newriverautomall.com/Volkswagen/used-2008-Volkswagen-Eos-Lux-VP037034- .php

How far off am I? She likes this so much, I almost had her sign the title to the Volvo and head back up there this morning...

Same here in MA. I just got the Excise Tax bill for the 2011 Explorer I bought in August. We owe about $300 for 1/3 of the year.

That bill will come around again in March.

CT takes the NADA value, multiplies it by .7 or .65, and applies your town's mil rate to get the tax amount.

MA takes the MSRP and applies a formula of $25/$1000 on the following:

In the year preceding the model year (brand new car released before model year) 50%

    In the model year 90%

    In the second year 60%

    In the third year 40%

    In the fourth year 25%

In the fifth and succeeding years 10%

Bill could give you more solid numbers, but it looks to me like this would fetch maybe $18k at auction. So, while $20k would be possible if this was at just any old dealer... it is not likely you can touch that price on a CPO example. In my several experiences with VW dealers, they pay a pretty penny to go through the CPO process, not to mention they claim they pay more at a VW corporate auction than a standard all-dealer auction (don't know if true or not, of course, but I did get that speech from more than one source). I'd be surprised if they go south of $22k.

Don't CT and MA have income tax as well? $6K? That's my whole property tax bill - actually it's a little more than my property tax.

My car insurance is as cheap as NJ gets - NJM. Pays back dividends. I now pay for four cars what it once ran for two. Well, before you add in under 25 yo drivers.

I will admit that NJ is costly enough that it does make living in CT or MA look cheap.

6 in 1, 1/2 dozen in the other though. Car insurance is cheaper, but we've got to pay personal property tax on cars (Paid $500 for my TSX last year). Gas is MUCH cheaper in NJ, especially compared to Southern Fairfield county where I live (Regular is just dipping under the $4 mark the past week or 2). We have (I think) a flat income tax rate here in CT that doesn't allow for deductions (As it did when we lived in NY). There's a lot of damn Red Sox fans around here too (I don't like this aspect of CT).

well, at that rate, you could live in my house for 1/2 the year. Camden county, gotta love it! Or leave it, as I plan to do ASAP after my last child graduates HS (class of 2014!)

At least I have a nice kitchen and spa-like master bath to enjoy until I do move.

NJ does at least have cheap gas. Might property taxes, a fairly high income tax. 7% sales tax (on cars too). And high car insurance. Just not a cheap place to be.

If you can get it for $20k then you did REALLY well, but I doubt it unless they've had it for 60+++ days.

These are doing $18 at the sale with fees easy, if not more. Figure a grand for recon easy, probably $800 or so to cert it, detail, de-ding it, etc.

$22,9 is realistic retail, anything $22k and south is a very good deal IMO, but the price on it isn't at all outrageous, I bet it's probably not marked up more than $2500.
  • Sandman6472Sandman6472 Member Posts: 7,218
That's what we need to do also...a new kitchen and a spa like master bath. Since we plan to stay here awhile, we need to come up with a master plan. Now since we put off replacing the Mazda for another year, we can direct those funds towards the house. Then we can get either a 2013 or a 2014 model which seems the current plan. By that time, the Elantra would have had it's mid cycle refresh, and I have to admit this, but I think she'll buy the Elantra when the time does come. Besides the Focus, I think it's the best sub compact out there right now. Unless she ups the budget and if that does happen, a 3 Series or C Class would really be nice. Especially if they still have free maintenance for the 1st 4 years...a good deal all around for such nice cars.

As always, you guys were right on the money. Did the deal last night by phone and fax, since the car is 120 miles away.

As the numbers shake out, the cost of the car was $22,741.95. TT&L etc makes it $25,000 exactly OTD. AND they're delivering it to us tomorrow afternoon.

Bill, you also hit the trade on the Volvo dead on. Sight unseen they hit it for $4750-5000. So it's hanging around for a while to go on CL and Autotrader etc this weekend.

All in all a decent deal. The salesperson was professional and straightforward the entire time. Only talked to her, none of the back and forth with the manager, the F&I guy, sales etc. I guess it helps the VW store also has the Audi franchise.

Thank you again, and as always.
