Pittsburgh or Cleveland. Does that mean you have to wait until the owner doesn't know it's gone? ;)

    Something like that ;)

We can sell it in either place, if the market is right, since her family is there.

I'm still not sure how this one would fly, but I'd rather have an idea before suggesting it.

    Hmmm..

With a replaced door.. what happened? If there was any work done to the pillar it's considered frame damage, that can make a huge difference.

Between that and the color combo I would be at $9k on it, if it was JUST a bolt on panel replaced and the Carfax was clean.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Should be worth mid 14s... in and around $14,500 assuming it's as nice as a 17k mile car should be.

If you live in an area that gives tax credits on trades, take that into consideration as well (IE don't do something silly like sell it to your buddy for $15k, don't laugh, we've had people do that).

Private party... Ask $16900, I wouldn't take less than $16300

    Thank you for the number.

The door was damaged when my brother-in-law backed into it on his driveway. It was just the sheet metal damage, $1200 in repairs.

Your $9000 is right in the middle of what I am seeing. Hyundai store started at $6000 and moved up to $8500 with $900 discount on a Tucson limited.
The Subaru store started at $9000 and moved up to $9800; they told me that it is all the money. I am still negotiating on their Outback.

One interesting thing both stores told me was that with 75K on the clock, they won’t be able to finance my car and will have to wholesale it. Is it true?
  • trusaleen1trusaleen1 Member Posts: 98
I am possibly selling. My dealer gave me a quote of $35k Which I found to be very low
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Navi?

Sounds like a really stripped out model... no premium package?

    Also, any paintwork?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
$35k is low, but if it's truly a base model it might be very tough to move... Still should be worth a little more, I'm thinking $37-38k.

It's not in the books that dealers use yet, but assuming no options.. it's a tough sell.
  • trusaleen1trusaleen1 Member Posts: 98
No navi no premium. It's the S so comes with M interior standard
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Tell them they need better banks.

Capital One will give me 60 months on that car for a buyer with decent credit, so will Wells Fargo.

Regardless, the color combo hurts it, that interior color is VERY tough to move, and I used to work for an Acura store.. it's like the kiss of death on a TL.

$9k towards a new Tucson Limited and $900 off is a strong deal, we're pretty close to sticker on Tucsons usually, they are tough as heck for us to get.

I know KBB.com isn't as accurate but they say good trade is 41.7
  • 28firefighter28firefighter Member Posts: 9,824
It is as nice as an '09 can be. I wash it weekly, and it gets waxed once a month.

That said, not sure its worth flipping at that price. She bough it new 2.5 years ago. Might make sense to hang onto it for another year or two and eat up some more of the depreciation curve.

KBB is frequently WAY off the mark.

Friend of mine at BMW said he bought one recently. 5k miles, Black/Black, loaded to the teeth for $42k. He'd be $37k on your car, all in and if it was in the wrapper.

West coast prices can be higher though, but $35k isn't outrageous... what's a stripped one going to retail for? I'd think $42,995 ask, take $41500 or better.

Is the interior you are talking about "tan"? My brother in law had a black one with the tan interior a few years ago. He liked it because of the fake wood as opposed to the metal accents. So, an Acura is different than Lexus in that buyers don't want the wood?
  • 28firefighter28firefighter Member Posts: 9,824
Haha, sorry Fez. No can do. Either way, you don't want it now. It was towed to the mazda dealer this morning because it was completely dead (4th time this year) and would stall as soon as the jumper cables were removed. Starting to lose my sense of humor.

First time: Jumped okay, dealer said to drive it (I humored them, it was 3 degrees out when it happened).

Second time: They said it was a bad battery. Bought a new battery.

Third time: They said it was the negative ground wire. Replaced it, all good.

Fourth time: Reporting that there is nothing wrong, just a dead battery. They juiced it up, say its fine with no parasitic draws.

I'm not buying it. Looking into filing a grievance with Mazda corporate.

Nice Ride. How come you are looking to dump it already?

What are you looking to get in its place?

You do know it is an I6 & not a V6, right?

Have you tried advertising it for sale in the bimmerfest classifieds? You might find an enthusiast looking for a stripper 335is.

Good luck & let us know what happens

Still haven't pulled the trigger on a new to me van. I am in no rush and that is helpful, at least I keep telling myself that. :)

    Here's another Sienna.

    Private Party in Central Mass.

    2007 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited
    AWD
    53K miles
    Silver Exterior Gray leather interior
Fully loaded with navi and dvd res with three headsets.

Seller says no accidents and he is the only owner.

Any thoughts on what private party and what the trade in value is?
    I really appreciate it.
  • trusaleen1trusaleen1 Member Posts: 98
Thanks, I love the car but not the payment. I previously had a 335i coupe lease for around $500. Im paying $662 right now and work is slow. Yeah I was typing fast and wasnt thinking. I know its an inline. Im looking at going to do Euro delivery the new 3 series sedan sometime this summer. Goal would be to get rid of my car in Nov and not have a payment for awhile then get something this summer
  • trusaleen1trusaleen1 Member Posts: 98
Thanks for the info Brentwood. My payoff is 40k so I have to decide which direction I should go. Have you heard of swapalease or what about selling privately. How does that work with a lease?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
First, check the tires out carefully, AWD Siennas use Run Flats as there's no room for a spare, they rarely last more than 20k miles and cost $200+ each for the OEM Dunlop 4000s or Bridgestone B380s. Pirelli now has a P7 H rated High Performance run flat in the size that these use, they have a MUCH better treadwear rating than the OE stuff.

Pricing is tough on these, Galves is $20,800.. but these can bring $22-23k at auction, if it was yours I would say to not take a penny under $25k and to ask $26,500
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Selling it privately is tricky, you may have to pay sales taxes on top of the payoff to get a title, so check into that.

Check VERY carefully with BMW Financial, some banks will allow a lease transfer, but some will also make the original lessee responsible in case of a default.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Nonsense.

Jump dead car, unhook cables, car goes dead.

This is almost certainly a blown alternator.

I have full confidence in the techs at this dealership, and if they say it is not producing anything that is wrong, I believe them. However, I do not agree that there is nothing wrong - 4 times dead in one year is insanity for such a new car AND with a now, new battery.

We'll see what Mazda says (probably nothing).

    BUY IT!

If they had a dealer's license they could ship it to Adesa auction in Framingham and get their asking price, maybe even more.

Buy that right now, even if it needs tires.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
It's probably worth mid 15s, perhaps closer to $16k out by you.

20" custom wheels? Take them off, sell them on craigslist and put the stockers back on.

    Exhaust? Ditto.

Stuff like that scares some dealers.

I have a Hyundai question. My local dealer has two 2011 Sonata limited turbos, both with the 17" wheels instead of the 18" wheels. I know Hyundai sent them out the factory that way for a few weeks? months? How does that affect the value long term. I think the 18" make a big difference as far as looks are go.

I keep thinking about how much I like your New England states and then folks talk about property taxes on cars and NJ looks better again....
Well Steve - there's always NH. Good part is no sales or income taxes. Bad part is high property taxes - oh and it's full of Massholes on the weekends.

In the '80's I used to work in Boston, had to fight every day to find a parking space, then go out every hour or 2 to feed the meter. I was sitting in my little Toyota P/U on my break one afternoon, & these 2 guys with NH plates pulled up next to me, very angry that I wasn't pulling out, & began threatening to "beat the cra**p out of me" if I didn't. I didn't leave of course, but I do have a slightly diff. take on who are the ----holes.

The taxes here in Mass. are high--my property tax is nuts, but that's b/c I live in an expensive town. And the 5% income tax is a real drag. Good news--the excise tax on my 11 y.o. bmw is $111--just one good reason to own older cars here.

There's FL, with really low taxes--having lived there tho, I'd MUCH rather live in New England & just pay the blasted taxes (& heat bills, & endure the blizzards...). Ask me again in January tho.....

Could be good or bad - replacement tires are very costly and the ride can be stiff with such large wheels. It would appeal to some buyers, but could actually repel others.
  • 8sparkplugs8sparkplugs Member Posts: 111
    edited October 2011
That could be true. The 18" wheels are on the SE equipped cars and all the turbo models. I think Hyundai put the smaller wheels on while they were dealing with the pull right issue on the Sonata. I like the sporty look of the 18", but feel like I can get a pretty good deal right now. I like the idea of buying locally, the next closer dealers are about 2 hours away. I guess it comes down to much $$ they are worth, plus it's a 2011, compared to the 2012's.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
I bet very very few people would even notice come resale time.

  • 8sparkplugs8sparkplugs Member Posts: 111
You are probably right. I do believe a big reason these two have not sold are the wheels. The car simple looks better with the bigger wheels. No other dealer within 200 miles has any 2011's in stock, this dealer has two, they continue to sell the new stock that comes in over these two cars. If they would of had the larger wheels I would have already bought one of them.

Shoot we could sell those, like TONIGHT. We haven't had 11s except for Hybrids since.. dang.. June? July?

If it was an SE the 17s might hurt, but not a limited Turbo.

Also, there is a $1500 rebate on 2011s and only $500 lease cash on 2012s... plus the 11s have a real nice lease program still.

    .00038 and 53% for 36 and .00063 and 46% for 48

I'd snap one up if it were me.... What might be hurting them is the lack of a pano roof on the 2011s.

Will see what I can do. A lot would depend on what we can do about the Ody.

If nothing else at least I can see what good things you are up to.....

Part of me thinks it's silly to worry about when I'm heading in the hospital for a few months as soon as a donor shows up. OTOH this when to buy a convertible from a price point and it's a good show of faith that I'm gonna get through all that. While I'm laid up I can let the Mrs. drive it once a week or so and keep it waiting for me...
