Unfortunately, CPO means nothing when trading it in .... unless you trade to a bmw dealer.

You have all the right equipment. Color combo is strong. You didn't tell me where you live, though. Cold weather and AWD make a strong case in the snowbelt, but do very little in the sunbelt.

assuming you are where those things matter, I think some of the dealers are a little low. Your miles are quite high, which hurts, but I still think $18-$19k should be manageable if your car is as described.

There aren't many comparables to go on, however, and 1 of those was an 87k mile car off lease that hit $15,500 at the block. But there are 2 others with 67k and 71k miles that were $21,500 and $19,100. The lower-priced car was a black one in Dallas, which isn't a good combo. So, again, I'm feeling your car should be a bit stronger.

Thanks qbrozen. I am in the northeast, sorry for not pointing that out. Agreed on CPO meaning something only to BMW. I appreciate the feedback...helpful.

    Hi,

Maybe you can help with a ballpark trade in on my 2001 Acura RL?

    66K miles
    Silver/Black Leather
    All options except Navigation
    Chrome Acura OEM wheels
    HID lights

Bumpers have a little wear from NYC parking

Thanks in advance for the help.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,755
This would really be a "ballpark" because I have no data to support an 11-year-old Acura with 66k miles. With 120k, it would be worth around $3500-$4k. So... I dunno... $5k-5500?

I'd certainly be selling this private party, though. Ask $7495 and see what happens.

For some reason I like these. I just want something different than a Pilot which to me is the smarter but less exciting buy. Does anyone have any thoughts on these?

Floating right around $33k at the block. Is that a black one? If so, it might be the Summit model with 31,403 miles and sold for $32,900 back on Nov 9th.

I do like the JGC as well...but the price point is pretty high compared to actual luxury SUV's. Maybe after another year or so when the depreciation really kicks in. We bought a new MDX with Tech (nav) for around $40k back in August. Worked out to only be a couple grand more than a loaded Pilot and far more vehicle to me. I was seeing new JGC and Durangos in the same price range! $33k+ for a used JGC...not really a deal unless you need more off-roading/towing perhaps.

This is a car im semi interested in buying. It is at CarMax listed for $26998. I'm curious about prices of these wholesale at auction for negotiations.

I also have a question about the AutoCheck. It states: Fleet, Rental, or Lease use Records. Also shows a Loan/Lien Record. So this car could have been a previous Rental vehicle or Leased vehicle....is that right? The Loan/Lien record description indicates in some cases this will be caused by a mechanic puttting a lien on the vehicle. What should I make of this?
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,755
I'm not really sure on that loan/lien thing.
Yes, leased or rental vehicle. I don't know of many places renting 5-series, though, so probably a lease.

There are SO MANY of these out there. I don't believe Carmax negotiates. The car is right around $22k at dealer auction. If its real clean and needs nothing, $24,500 would be a comfortable pricepoint for me, personally.

Thanks for the info. I am in SF Bay Area and we don't have CarMax locally so this vehicle is about 90 miles away. I am not familiar with CarMax, but doing a little reserach seems to show that yes indeed they dont negotiate. Well so much with that. I like to negotiate. I do see 3 in my local area that are CPO's asking $29K. How much premium would you add to that $24.5K figure if it is a clean CPO.
  • urhourho Member Posts: 3
Did it actually say "Trade-in Value" or simply "Value"? Dealers are in business to make money. They try not to sell a vehicle for the same amount of money that they paid for it.
  • robbiegrobbieg Member Posts: 350
I think mainstream autos that are loaded have become too expensive. There isn't enough of a difference between them and an Acura or Infiniti.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, we should compare to loaded premium cars, or at least similarly equipped.

By that I mean I doubt someone who wants Navi and a moonroof with be happy with a base model Acura/Infiniti lacking both of those things.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,755
bmw charges their dealers quite a premium for CPO. Its going to depend alot on what you feel the warranty is worth. I think, however, anything over $27k would be excessive.

  • robbiegrobbieg Member Posts: 350
That is my point. When loaded a mainstream car can be about the same price as a luxury car. At some point you have to decide what is more important to you either the latest toys or driving a luxury brand.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Base luxury car = brother-in-law asking you to borrow money.

Cheap brand loaded up = boss asking if you need a raise.

    Easy choice. :shades:

2009 Touareg 2 in Chicago area.
    38000 miles, White, VR6 FSI,
Lacking only nav, camera, towing, air susp

Asking 22,900 which appears below market, at a Hyndai dealer.
Reviews look pretty good in general, tho premium fuel a drawback

    Is this a good idea?

Ok, Q, sorry to hit you up for another one. Apparently the whole two-door phase has run its course with my Mom and she is ready to go back to something bigger. Looking for trade-in value for her A5. Here are the details:

    2011 Audi A5 Premium Plus
    Deep Blue
    Cinnamon Interior
B & O Stereo System (only option on the premium plus, I believe)
    Nav
    Bi-xenon adaptive headlights
    30k Miles

Car is in pristine condition - no runs, hits, or errors. Located in the Philadelphia suburbs. Local listings seem to be anywhere from 38-43 for a similarly equipped A5, so I'm thinking this is going to fall somewhere between 35-38 on trade, but I could be off.

    She wants to trade on a 2013 or leftover 2012 XC60 T6...

I'm thinking this might be the white one that sold at auction in Arena, IL on 11/20 for $21,400. Reported to be above average. That's a helluva deal if so.

Otherwise, similar vehicles are around $19k at the block.

many of these at auction, but none that are manuals. The autos are $10-11k. I'd have to guess that a stick would be $9500'ish? So if he purchased for under $13k, he did ok. Under 12 would be good.

having a bit of difficulty here. quattro? coupe or vert?

the only coupe I can find is AWD. Vert can be AWD or FWD.

    let's see....
FWD vert = anywhere from 33-35k
    AWD vert = $36k'ish
AWD coupe = no comparables... about $32k with 20k miles, so maybe $31?

thanks qbrozen for your help! I was with my friend when she traded her 2003 GTI 1.8T w/ 80K & 5 speed stick last night. As I said, the car has been parked on the streets of brooklyn, queens, & manhattan pretty much all its life. Dented panels, scuffed bumpers, you get the picture. You pegged its value between $3000 & $3500. 3 days ago, her CEL came on (some $500 sensor). So between that and the significant reconditioning, we were offered $2500 & took it. The guy was upfront about her GTI in excellent shape at $3300.

So as usual, you were right on. I appreciate you help as always!

Just to follow up, the offers ranged on this from 29-30. Was traded today for $30,500 on a 2012 XC60 T6 AWD Premium Plus demo with 5000 miles. The high miles downright killed it and they told my parents as much.

MSRP on the XC60 was just over 46, they bought for $33,9 - full balance of the Safe and Secure warranty/maintenance. Ended up working out - still waiting on full details.

let's see... an above average green example with 37k sold in Atlanta for $8400, while an average green one in Philly with 58k fetched $6900, and an average silver car in Atlanta with 65k got $7600.

This car is in the northeast, right? Right color, wrong time of year. $6500 trade, methinks. Wait till April and it might get $500-$1k more at the right dealership.

OK, TJC found an ebay Acura for me, listing ends tonight. a 1999 CL 2.3l 5 speed stick, with 117K. Looks and represented as nice and clean, though I suspect it will need new sneakers soon from the one picture. Tan over tan, aftermarket head unit, but seems nice enough.

what do you think this should go for? It could work for me on a few levels.
