    Glad to help.

$6K for your trade against how much on the Highlander? :)

Still, what always matters is the difference! Keep us posted...

    Jeez...

Just when I thought I had you out of my hair... :)

Seriously, its a $30-31K car across the block with more miles than most 2000 Cessnas.

So.. shoot. If you owned it I'd say to shoot to get about $33K out of it.

$38,500? (chuckle) uhh.. ok... suuure... :) But I bet some fool wil pay it.. I mean, I bet KBB.com says its worth $42K! (I was beating KBB.com prices by $5K+++ on CERTIFIED LS400s when I was at a Lexus store... we wouldnt even sell that car for that!)

Immaculate as in no paintwork, right?

    Nod yer head, OK.. good.

So it has lots of little chunks of tread on those black round rubber things around the wheels, and the ashtrays are either virgins or still off-white, and its overall really really nice.

Those Q45s are nice, but a bit stiff. Thankfully yours is THE color and has miles I'd like to see in a 99.

So that is a good thing.

So this is a $16,500 to $17,000 car as a wholesale piece. Retail? We're right at the $19,900/best offer.

Do not take a dime under $19,000 IMO. Advertise it right:

    Wrong:

    1997 Infiniti Q45. 40K, White, Nice, Call John 555-1234

    Right:

1997 Infiniti Q45. Pearl White with Light Beige Leather. Only 40,000 nonsmoker, pampered miles. No paintwork or damage ever, absolutely immaculate. Well below average book for an above average car $19,900 or best offer

    Hope this helps

Limited with the premium stereo and tow prep package for $27,400. I show invoice at roughly $26,947.

Now I'm sure it will be the usual $250 doc fee plus TTL. Looks like a great offer - thus my suspicion that there is some other incentive out there or perhaps something else. But I love my little Integra so I can always walk away.
  • beowulf7beowulf7 Member Posts: 290
I now noticed I pretty much gave every single detail *except* for the number of doors on the darn car! It is a 2-door hatchback. Sorry for leaving out that important piece of info.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmmm...

$6,000 for the integra... $27,400 for the Highlander.. I'm sure they have a $299 or $399 dealer fee.. It IS Tampa after all, and that's the norm in any major market in the state. Although I'm sure there are some who dont.

So figure you're... Hmm... Still at a darn good deal. If you want the HL.. I doubt you can do better than that.

Also.. wait.. Is that Invoice # ya got from edmunds? Every Toyota Invoice I have seen from Tampa usually has a 1.5% TDA asessment. So you may be even closer than youthink.

    Bill
  • 93fsu193fsu1 Member Posts: 97
Yes, the KBB numbers are more accurate and I have yet to add them up, but know this is pretty darned close to perfect. I get the feeling they want my Integra more than they want to sell me the HL!
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
The base numbers are usually right... straight across the board.

Its stuff like TDA that they never account for...

    Bill
  • 93fsu193fsu1 Member Posts: 97
KBB lists an additional $25 charge for freight (I guess Jacksonville is sooooo far away) and a $565 SE Toyota administration charge! Ouch! How much you wanna bet that isn't included in the quote?

I'll let you know how it goes, it will likely be sometime late next week.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Well someone finally got TDA right.

    About bloody time.

Sounds about right.. I've seen Land Cruiser invoices with TDA fees of over $700...

Or, put it this way, I have never seen a Toyota imported by SE Toyota without a TDA charge...

So if youre including that, youre at $500 or so over invoice, which is strong as heck on a HL. Has someone gotten one for back of that? Im sure. But I think that is a strong #. Especially if theyre burying themselves in the trade. Heheh.

    Bill
  • 93fsu193fsu1 Member Posts: 97
Yep, a good deal on a popular vehicle, which i hope will have future trade in value as good as my Integra.

Any other options you recommend that would help future value on a HL?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Im actually online onm a Friday night... (Im working on website... go figure).

OK.. If you're gonna stay in FLorida, 2WD is fine. You'll get slaughtered for it up north.

Color... White (Esp if it comes in Pearl!) and SIlver are always safe. Go with Grey or Beige on the inside. I assume we're looking for a Limited, right? Roof, CD and Leather are big pluses here.

Ditch the 4cyl too. 4cyl 4Runners are the ones with crap resale.

Just make sure it has the major stuff. Watch the boards... see the ones that everyone wants. Then buy one like that. You wont net yourself a dime more by ditching, say, a slider on a Limited.

Navi will add "Oogotz" in Sporano-Speak.

Have you thought about a used 2000 RX?

    Bill

..... Sounds like someone I know, has a little .."buyers remorse" ..

Bill is right, they probably own that 2000 for in and around the ultra low $30's -- someone there, might have even been brain dead enough to drop $33 in it so they could break $35 at the table. (I think, he's now parking cars at Ohio State basketball games.)

$38 asking price ..? Are they running an Ad for a LSC too ..? l..o..l...

Me ..? with 50k on a 2yr old vehicle, whether it's an LS400, CLK Benz or a Dodge Durango .. that puppy needs to go, I would be at a $35/$36 quick sale price .. and I mean quick, but it's not my store.

Right now, nice 99 30k LS400's are doing in and around $33 and change at the Columbus, Statesville., Manheim auction.

So what that means to you is ... the dealer pays let's say $33,500, by the time he get's it home with transport and all the rest, he has over $34 in it -- Now he "certifies" it, a little service, detail, a this and a that ..and bang, he has $35 in it.

Now, the 99 with 31k and still under factory warranty and on the lot for $38 -- the 2000 with 50k ..(you have to pay for this warranty) is on the lot for $38 -- I'm not a betting man, but that low mile 99 will be "bustin bugs" way before that hi mile 00. Kinda keep in mind, after 1 yr and 15k later, that 00 will have 65k on it ... the 99, with the same will just have around 45k, still an easy sale for anyone.

Hey, if you feel a little uncomfortable about the purchase ... throw it in the paper for $36,900, let someone come over .. slap Ya silly and get the $36 ... then go down the street and buy the 00 for $33/$34 -- what do Ya think ..?

    Your conscious speaking ..l.o.l....

    Terry.
  • qwallsqwalls Member Posts: 406
Maybe just a little buyer's remorse. :-) I do like the fact that my '99 is still under factory warranty. I'll probably stay with what I have right now - Just wondering if the '00 would have been a better deal, but the mileage difference is a good point. Bill - I told you I'd be around. :-)

You can come out of your room now.

    (time for a quick digression:)

Tsk tsk tsk... PEOPLE!!! Arrgh! Here's stuff I need to know:

    Color combo
    Geographical location
    Tranny
    Doors
    2WD? 4WD?
Previous accident damage? (Get graphic here.. I want details on what happened to it. Didja paint the back bumper BC ya bumped someon in a parking lot or did you park it too close to the edge of the Grand Canyon?)

    tsk tsk tsk...

    /rant

OK, Back to our regularly scheduled program.

Sounds like a nice car. And it has a booming stereo! Wow, that adds like.. Maybe $5 to the wholesale value (Take Sub and Amp out, sell on eBay, use money for tinitus treatments). But it is Dark Kermit-Colored, and you have to push a little stick back and forth to make it move.

    Hmm...

$6,500 is where it strikes me...

I want to buy a new Honda CR-V, and would like to know what I can expect for my trade-in.

It's a royal blue 96 Sunfire SE coupe, with 38,700 miles, the 2.4 twin cam engine, all options except sunroof, one minor ding in the door, needs new tires, but otherwise in good shape. I live in central Missouri. I know these cars haven't held their value well, but I'm hoping the low miles will help a little.

Another question - does it pay to get the car detailed by a professional before getting it appraised? Will the cost of the detail be offset by a higher trade-in value?

Thanks for any help you can give me!
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Last question first -- Yep, spend that $100, make it look like a diamond ..that's usually good for an Xtra 3/4/$500 depending on the vehicle.

In your case, you have extra low miles .. make it look like it.

clean .. this vehicle should pull $3,7/$3,9/$4,100

Good luck .. and let us know.

I'm the one who asked about my 99 silver Stratus. You were right on the money, the dealer offered $6,300 and I accepted it. If I hadn't asked here first, I know my expectations would have been higher and I would have come away less than a satisified customer. Could I have gotten more money through a private sale? Sure, but I didn't want to do the legwork. I know I got a very good price on the new one. This was the least hassle free car purchase I've ever been through. Just wanted to say thanks!

.... Bill was right on those figures (I always check em') .. He He

On a retail side, $7950 and you could have grabbed $7,500 or so ...

Your welcome ... Bill thanks you, his dog thanks you, his 4th wife thanks you, his Vauxenslobbin thanks you .. well, you get the picture.

Brn, Glad I could help on the Dodge. There's great info on the net out there, but used cars are a tough bunch to always peg 100%. Im sure we've missed a few too.

    Enjoy the new one!

I was wondering about the average price on a 2001 SLK230.

I'm looking at one with 11K miles, CD changer, auto transmission and in excellent cosmetic condition. It's Starmark certified. The price is $34K.

Is that in the range of normal prices?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... I think your like the third person to post on an SLK. Hmmmmm, spring must be on it's way. .l.o.l..

Ok .. it's been Star Trekked (what color ..?)

It has 11K .. and it's just "Go juss" ...

$34 is normal .. the dealer probably has close to $31 in it, so start him up at $32 and see what happens. $32,5/$33 takes it home.

Good luck .. and let us know!

    Terry.
  • OmneOmne Member Posts: 2
It's definitely Spring, well eventually. Here we just had an ice storm and blizzard in the last two days.. :-)

I think they may have a little more into it. I hit a solid brick wall at $34K and I spend a lot of time negotiating in my job.

It's Firemist with a black interior. I do know that a couple that were similar that I looked at went for more at other dealerships.

I'll probably go ahead on it. The dealership has a good rep.

    Thanks for the info.
  • bakermea1bakermea1 Member Posts: 2
    Terry,

Thanks for such a quick reply!

I know I won't be able to bargain much on the CR-V, so I'm going to hold out for a good price on the trade-in, and you're answer confirmed the price range I was thinking I need to shoot for.
  • mellismellis Member Posts: 150
93 Miata B package, hard top, 47,250 miles, red w/black interior. A/C, PW, cruise, anti-lock, 9k on tires, new pads, rotors turned. Ex condition.

Anyone have an opinion on a private sale price? I have been looking for a nice Miata for a while.

  • mellismellis Member Posts: 150

I assume the $6,500 is trade-in. How about private sale? Thanks!

.... I will let Bill fill in the blanks on the Acura.

It's red ...WoW never saw a red Miata. .l.o.l..

The miles are low, it's a "B" pack -- ABS, truly ..that's rare with the HT. Sounds like a nice vehicle, If it's as nice as you say it is .. no miles, all the stuff and newish sneakers (not knowing where your from) .. I would say, the dealer has at least $4 in it, so he probably has it advertised at $6900. Start him up at $5,500 and see what happens ...

Good luck .. and let us know.

I need a trade-in value for a '99 Mazda B3000. It's a 2 wheel drive supercab with the extra rear suicide doors. 12,000 miles. No extras except automatic, 6 CD changer and air (manual windows and locks, no cruise, etc). Light green. 50% on the tires. Super nice shape, but kind of a plain-janer.

    Thanks.

I went ahead and made the deal happen that I was talking to you about, on Saturday. I am now the owner of a WRX for a deal I still can't understand why the gave me so much on my trade in cars and still gave me the car for 800 over invoice? At anyrate I love the new car and appreciate all your help. Thanks. Talk to you later.

    Well...

$34K isnt really unreasonable. To be brutally honest.. If I had $31K in it I wouldnt let it go for $32,500... Unless it was approaching its 45-day anniversary. The key is to not pay $37,995 that they are asking for it.

I think youre getting a fair deal here myself. Now go enjoy yer Benz :)

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Depending on where ya are Im sure there's something of a deal to be had on CRVs...

So shop it a bit. But, remember Bill's golden rule. If you are jerked around.. use thy feet :)

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
$6,500 is trade-in. On a retail sale you want to shoot to make about 6-7,000 over that.

Oops.. thought I was a different Bill for a second.. haha.

Seriously, I wouldnt let it go for less than $8,000 if I were you, so ask $8,900/bo and shoot to get 8,500 but if someone waves $8K in your face, grab it and throw em the keys and the title.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Terry, a red one? Wow! =D

Seriously, that does sound like its got like ALL the toys and miles I'd wanna see on a 98. Although Low-Mile Miatas are like Low-Mile SLs or Vettes. Not TOO hard to find.

$6K-6,300 had darn well better buy this sucker private-party wise.

If it were yours, I'd say to not take a dime under $6K, and to expect to get $4K on a trade, but that you ought to shoot for $4,500 and ask $6,900

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Good. I have no idea why they did that deal either.

Stupid $$ on both trades, and gave the WRX away. I'm glad ya bit.. I sure would have.

That's like an Odyssey for $500 over invoice and clean book for a 99 Kia Sportage with 65K miles...

Maybe they needed the deal..or the trade/s.. or rehab. But you done well :)

Looking for trade-in value for above car, Platinum series, 15K miles, black, tan leather, CD, excellent condition. Wife thinking of trading it for a 02 ES 300. Its a very nice car but 02 is nicer. Checked Kelly and it said $23.5K but I understand in the real world that may not be correct.

Bill (or Terry), could you give me some "real world" expectation on what I could get for my 1999 Acura Integra LS coupe in the S. NJ/Philly area? I posted the details in #5800, but here's quick recap for your convenience.

    - 140 HP 5-speed manual transmission
    - Spoiler with integrated brake light
    - Forest green exterior paint w/ tan pinstriping; tan/beige interior cloth
    - About 27,600 mi. as of today; should be under 30 kmi. by lease maturity date in May)
    - Viper keyless entry alarm system installed in Aug. 1999
    - Car is in "excellent" condition (at least it should be after I touch up a small scratch with matching paint and wax the exterior; interior is in pristine condition)
    - FYI, the Integra LS comes standard with sunroof, CD player, 6 speakers, power everything, 15" rims w/ wheel locks; the only options I got were the spoiler w/ integrated brake light and 2-line/2-tone pinstriping

How does your estimate differ from what KBB or Edmunds says? Finally, what's this mysterious Galve (Galves?) book I'm hearing about from NJ dealers? Thanks for your input!
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm...

Well I clicked your profile... and.. I am guessing ya live near the ole "Customers for Life" dealer.

When you get the 2002 there, if you see Gedeon in Finance, tell him Bill Weismann says hi! (Also if you run into a brick wall there, e-mail me.. I know people there although nobody is giving away 02 ESs just yet in our parts...)

So, what matters is what your 00 ES is worth. And that's about $23K at the moment. Now, if it was PEARL WHITE OR SILVER (hint hint on the 02) it'd be a bit more....

Get the hint? Wes in Flahriduh, not Noo Yawk! Light Metallics... Light Metallics... At least ya didnt go Green or Red :)

    Hope this helps!

    ...... It's a mystery to me sometimes ... l..o..l.. (Galves)

It's a wholesale book, with the information basically tuned for the upper New England states, Vermont, Maine, Mass, etc.

Some of the dealers, like to use them to show what your vehicle is worth .. or might be worth (like a black book). The only problem is, in your area, Philly they mean -0- and there not accurate in the rest of the country.(about 10% off)

It's a sly move for the miss-informed consumer..

But anyway, we have a clean 99 Integra LS, all toyed out with a handshaker (no help there). The miles are right and the color is great for your area ... and from what you are telling us -- it's Excellento.

If it's a "baby doll" ... then it looks like a vehicle that will do the low $12's on a trade.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Nice vehicle, right stuff, no miles -- Oooop's wrong color ...

Yeah, I agree with Bill, $23, maybe some change, maybe -- -- Now, if this vehicle was in NJ or NY, it would do $24 all day long. -- But, your not. :-)

    Terry.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Ah-Ha... its' a 2-door!

Did you see my earlier response? Hmm?? (tapping foot)

OK. Now we got the specs...

I have no idea where KBB pegs this car. I'm not sure I have even seen their site in.. shoot.. a year maybe? Edmunds has been working VERY hard to get accurate, and they're getting very good.

Galves is a book used in the northeast. Some cars it hits dead on, some it hits way low. What it says, I suppose, is what a wholesaler might pay for a car. Its really no better or worse than any other book in that its not always right. Black Book seems to be the most accurate, but even then.. its' not 100% spot-on. Some cars, with average miles, will always be good for "clean" and some cars wont pull "clean" if theyre 4 years old, Silver and have 22K miles and perfect. NO dealers use Kelly Blue Book outside of the west coast. Even there I dont know why they use it. And NO dealers anywhere use Edmunds. Galves is, I suppose, sorta like dead, bottom-of-the barrell wholesale. Black Book is what I use when I use a book as it is based off of what cars are selling for at auction. And, when all is said and done, that IS the market.

In other words, there is no exact science. It is the one business that you cannot use percentages on. You just cant. Not even in retail vs Wholesale. Say you have a Jaguar that is worth $13,500 wholesale, say a 70K mile 1996 XJ6. That is a car you can easily sell for $16,500 in the paper. But say you have a Honda that's worth $13,500, say an Accord. $15K is what you should settle for, and $15,500 on a push.

Nobody knows what will happen next. And the reason I'm getting to this is.. you said May.

I cannot, in good faith, tell you what you car will be worth in May. What I can do is guess. If I had to guess I'd say about $11,800 wholesale but that's still shooting in the dark. Better we should talk in the end of April.. gimme 45 days. Right now the market is going freaking bonkers. Will it keep this pace up? I dont think so. Sales are getting better and better, but wholesale prices are still at stupid levels in many ways.

    So gimme 45-50 days here!

Right now.. It sounds like a nice car, miles and condition help, Transmission and color don't. Right now, I think its' a $12,500 wholesale piece. Retail? Dont let it go for less than $14,200 or so, and I think you should shoot to get $14,500 without trouble. It should be in the paper for $14,900.

How that compares to your residual, Galves or KBB I am unsure :)

    Hope this helps...

    Hi Terry and Bill ..

    Hi

We went looking for a used accord over the weekend. We saw one that we like. It's a 99 V6-EX .. with 31K on it. The asking price is 16995. Is this a good deal. The car look very good although it have a small dent , but that was it.

    thanks
