Why not spend a few bucks, fix a few things -- get it detailed, then drop it in the paper for $3,950 and let it go for $3,2/$3,5 ..?
Terry.
What's up, terry?
Stumbled here by following a link from Edmunds.com
We have a '93 GMC Suburban, 2WD, running boards, rear air, blue-green exterior, gray cloth interior, bench front seat (9 passenger), cargo doors...decent condition. The kicker is the miles at approx 176K. Body is fair with few minor scratches and one long scratch on rt. quarter panel, also two small rock chips in windshield. Oh yeah, also probably need to replace side mirrors as both of the "frames" are loosy-goosy and are tied on right now. Really. Pretty, huh? Good Michelin tires, maintenance has been kept up, etc. I have two (or three) questions:
1. Better to trade or try to sell? Also have a used car dealer friend who can either sell on consignment (he keeps 10%) or he can sell wholesale.
2. What is it realistically worth?
3. We have begun shopping for our next vehicle. We definitely want a Yukon XL 2000 or newer. Have very definite preferences (bench seat, liftgate, etc.). We are having trouble deciding whether it would be better to try to find a used to fit our preferences or order one new just like we want. It will be our third suburban-type vehicle. We have always bought one or two year olds and driven them FOREVER. Sorry so long winded......Thanks for your help. Happy Easter, too!
I know I'm looking at Grand Cherokee's, and that Land Rovers' values sink faster than the bricks they resemble, but how much, wholesale and retail, for this:?

Thanks, and Happy Easter
Thanks in advance if you can give me an estimate of trade-in value, and also selling price on a private sale. I can go either way as I have an interested party who has bought my vehicles from me previously. BTW, I'm located in the southeast, if that has any bearing.
As I mentioned, vehicle is a 1998 Chevy Suburban, LS trim, Dark Blue in color, F & R ac/heat, cd/cass/am/fm, full power, running boards, tow package, 54K miles, pretty new Goodyear tires with about 5K miles on them, new battery. Very clean inside and out, non-smoker. Well maintained.
As some have mentioned, we are hit with 5% sales tax, so I'll have to consider that also in lieu of trade-in vs. private sale. Any other helpful advice would be greatly appreciated also. Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Thanks Again.
Good luck.

Anyway, it appears the CarFax on the Contour puts it first up for sale late September last year. There are two records for being offered for sale, the first being 9/01 and the second in 2/02, the 9/01 record is within 200 miles of the cars current mileage.
I'm going to look at another one in Nashville, IL on Monday. It's a 97 and they are listing it for $3900. After the service call from Heck, a nice drive will be theraputic.

That's really a point of personal opinion ... there is a lot of 3.9 Dakota's out there with 150k+, blinking at the owners ...
IF, you go by the "books" .. there is about $1,000 difference at trade time, in favor of the Ford --- But .. if you "deduct" away the V6 on the Ford product at trade time (in which, the dealer will) , there just about equal.
I hope this makes sense ..
Hey -- you did good on that Camry .. reeeall good ..!
Terry.
I have bought a few like that..
What happens is, a dealer will take a vehicle in for trade .. it just goes "stone cold" -- He/She will scratch their head, wonder why .. then add it to the Porsche and the Lexus that aren't moving, drop em' at the auction -- and cut em' from the herd.
Some dummy like me, buy's it .. and hopefully in 2wks or less, it's busting bugs off the lot.
Terry.
We had some lousy Belgium waffles, with carbon 70 for syrup ... next time, I will know better and stop by ..
But, it's not long til that "Honey baked Ham" hit's the table ... Yum ee!
Terry :-)
As you probably know (if I read it right) .. it sold for $18. Thats more than a fair price .. that's straight dead wholesale. And on Land Rovers .. that's where you like to be. That was a great deal for somebody ---- I would guess, the retail on it, is around $23 ...
Terry.
It has the right miles ... you have hot and cold running air, new sneakers and some nice adds. Your from the South, that color will come back and bite Ya ....
Suburban's always have a home to go to ... so if it's clean, interior is like 01 and no gang warfare with the body .. this should do the high $13's, the color might cost you ...
If you go down Retail Road -- ( I sound like a broken record ) ... have it detailed, have all the books and service records ready, do a nice 5 liner in the biggest paper in your area -- and start it up at $16,950. Then let some crazy person insult you to death, at $15,8/$16,2/$16,500 ..then smile, take the money and go buy a home in Boca, or perhaps not ..l.o.l...
Terry.
First, to those of you of my tribe...
Happy Passover.
To those of you who celebrate it...
Happy Easter.
Irrespective, please dotn eat as much as I do
Bill
WHos gonna now answer questions...
If its worth $20K wholesale, then you shouldnt take less than $22K retail for it. Ask $22,900/bo.
If youre having troubles with it tho.. you may wanna go for the lemon law instead of taking the hit tho..
Bill
If you can get $2,500 real money.. GRAB IT!
Bill
You and my girlfriend also
Bill
Tough call I suppose. But I think that the Toyota, even at close to $10K more wont cost more than $2-3K more, if that, over 5 years.
Those silly things holdtheir value VERY well. But who knows? 5 years from now all SUVs could be soft and the market could be flooded, so, like all things in life, it is a gamble.
That being said, I think that as far as large SUVs go, the Sequoia kicks some butt. Its a damned nice truck and Im not awfully fond of Expeditions.
But me? Id buy a 99 Range Rover but Im also wacko lolol.
Bill
$16K is about the number here. V6 LEs arent the hot ticket on a Camry.. 4cyl LEs are, and people whgo want V6s want the "nearly Lexus" XLE.
Maybe someone will slap $16,200 on it.. but youre about there. Miles are a tiny touch stiff for an 01..
Bill
Doesnt sound pretty. I think we're in the $3,500ish trade range there if you have it detailed up..etc...
Doesnt sound terribly pretty I am afraid.
I'd go used. You looking for an LS? An LT? 2WD? 4WD?
We can give ya some price guidance there..
Bill
If its nice.. $15,800-16,400 across the blockish.. so $18,801 that it did is reasonable. Im sure the local Land-Rover "Centres" have them at $22,995.
Rovers do pretty decent $$ on eBay...
Bill
Nice truck and all.
But 2WD or 4WD?
5%? You in GA?
Bill
I just bought an SD at Ocoee not too long ago for $16,200 for a customer.. 99 with 33K or so on it.
Nice Beluga Black one. No Caviar in the glovebox tho
Bill
Regarding what we are looking for: 2WD is fine. The LS is fine with front bench seat, cloth, liftgate, rear heat and air, really want the exterior color to be either blue, green, or wine. Want running boards and a sunroof would be a real plus (but we understand for around $1k could have one factory installed. I believe that's the entire wishlist. Since we are not in a real hurry, we feel like we can be picky, at least for now. Thanks for your incredible help. Although we are just new to this forum, since yesterday, it is obvious that you guys devote countless hours to this service. Much appreciated!!!
Happy Passover! We're celebrating Easter in a laid back fashion today. Take it easy!
I hope she didn't take that the wrong way.
TB
Bill: Happy Passover, from one of those Easter types... :-)
What should I pay him for it and keep in the good graces of the family?
If he and I don't want to risk family strife and let him sell or trade it, what should he expect?
TB
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. And yes, it's 2wd, sorry about that. Terry, you pretty much pegged what I was expecting. Dealers here in MS like to use the NADA books for values. Looks like I'll come out better selling myself. I've always done that anyway and never had any problems. Just a little more hassle, but usually worth it. I've got a lot more time than money...
Thanks again !
Terry & Bill, Thanks as always, and a belated Happy Passover. When I posted the Land Rover, It was heading thru the high $14Ks. figuring it was a holiday weekend, wasn't sure if it would have the usual Ebay last minute bounce. It did, but no loss.
It doesn't look like I'm going to find my cars on-line. Might actually have to invest some shoe leather into car shopping this week.
Will be back soon. Rest up.
Know you got a lot of catching up to do. I would appreciate your comments on post 6196 when you get a chance. Haven't gotten car yet. Waiting for arrival.
thanks
How about a Mazda Tribute ES-V6?
'02 Mazda MPV ES?
Isuzu Axiom XS 4wd?
appreciate it!
And Happy Easter and/or Passover!

01 MPV's are doing around $16 --- and right now, those 02 Axioms are hot ..and running about $23/$24 degrees ...
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
So what happens on Ground hog day ...?
Terry.
Also, what strategy should I employ when selling the car to a dealer. To refresh your memory, I am leasing my vehicle, but it is so "undermileaged" and in excellent condition, so I'm thinking of buying the car and turning around to sell it back. I understand that AHFC allows my car to be sold directly to a licensed dealer, so should I even bother tell them I'm leasing the vehicle (if I can get them to pay more than my buyout cost) or just say I have the car financed? Thanks again!

94 Civic EX Coupe Auto - teal in SE Pa.
130K miles (ugh!) but actually super clean and a well-documented service record - a very reliable car. The only hangup is a mild front-end collision in its history (left front quarter and headlight) that only, but definitely shows up on a close inspection.
I'm expecting $2500-2800 as a trade offer, but hope to sell for $4000. Am I being unrealistic? Thanks for all your help and advice.
As far as an 00 Suburban (Or Yukon XL.. same thing.. one says GMC, One says Chevrolet) LS 2WD goes... First, NO AFTERMARKET ROOFS.. I havent seen one yet that I like.
That being said, with 30K miles or so, that's a $23Kish vehicle across the blocks, so I think you can buy one for about (TMVish.. I.E. What you should pay not what Bozo asking price you may see..) for Mid $25s to $26 right now. These are really hot property so dealers probably arent going to be giving em away just yet....
You oughta see what a loaded up 4WDer will pull across the block! =O
Bill
Happy ...hell.. whatever Holiday it is anyways! lol
Bill
it is VERY messed up AGAIN.
So re-send it or just freakin callif ya have my #..
