    ....... Hey what's a BMS ..? ..l.o.l.....

Well hopefully you know the drill around here. It better be nice and clean -- knee deep in the rubber category.

A few chips here and there, won't mean a whole lot, a 10 speed across the hood does.

If all the service has been done correctly .. and it needs -0- ..then this little deal should see the bright side of the $7's -- if not, start deducting.

    Terry,

I am located in Philly suburbs.
I had a guy tell me $15k the other day... said if I had quattro and leather it would be more like $19k.

How do I find a "good dealer" that will know places they can move this car?

    Bill,
What do you think would be the selling price for a 2000 Accord LX Sedan, 4 DR, Auto with 38K miles on it?How much should I expect if I sold it to a private party or a dealer?I am not buying a new car now but just want to sell this.

    Thanks,
    Sid.

Hey Bill, there are two Sids selling identical cars. What are the odds of that?

    They're in a hurry. Chop, chop. :)

I was surprised to read the $$ diff between Quattro and anti-Quattro. IIRC, the MSRP on the Quattro option was $1650. Those quotes mean that if you buy Quattro you can make money on it. Amazing.

If you guys are travelling I-95 ove the next few days, please pull over and stop. Bill will be racing up and down the interstate at high speeds to get that Vauxhall. Please let him pass as anyone who gets in the way of Bill and his Vauxhall's is in for some problems.

......... A lot of what the Quattro's are worth is based on their wonderful ability to cover a vast amount snow and rain at high speeds ..

I spent probably most of my time in bad weather this winter, in either a 4x4 Suburban LT or a A6/A8 Quattro ... or an S80.

Also those TT's will just get it .. in just about anything. Audi has done just one "first class" job in that department. That's why their worth that Xtra jingle ....

...... If you have a dealer that's hitting you at $15 for your vehicle, then he is doing very good by you, and trying hard to earn your business.

I shot the $15's ... that could mean $15,1/$15,3/$15,8 --- remember he can actually see the vehicle.

I'm in the Philly area a lot .. I have bought a ton of vehicles from there -- so try to work with him and see what happens, he seems to know his stuff.

Hey, good luck.... and let us know!

    ....... A 98 740iL, with 23 little bitty klicks .. Wow.

Not my particular color .. but you should do well with this "fat daddy".

The new 7's are kinda just hangin' around .. some like, some don't and some are lookin' elsewhere. I'm not picking on the vehicle, this is actually a great time for a purchase on the new style 7 --

I would have to think .. they will jump all over yours, to get you to get another one on the road ..and off their floor plan. l.o.l....

Soooo, if yours is clean .. interior is fresh, tires are new, maintenance is A1 -- pretty much a jam-up vehicle (minus a scratch or two) .. then you should be lookin' in and around that ultra hi $32, low $33 figure. --- And don't be afraid to ask for a discount on the new 7 .. most dealers have more than their fair share of em'.

    I hope this helps ...

    ......... 00 GLT with 30 klicks .. for $24,900 ..?

Not a bad price .. he probably has $20 and some change in it, maybe comes to the table at $21. Start him up at $22,5 -- and see what happens. I feel the high $23's is all the money ...

Don't get shy around the S80's .. I buy alot of these. Most of the reports on the 99 S80's are due to cd, air conditioning, problems ... I like the Volvo's and have driven a bunch of the S80's .. I just bought 4 last week at the Detroit auction. Bill would have been in 7th heaven there last week, there had to be 80+ Jags that ran through ... l.o.l....

The reason why they are there ... cuz, most are from the Ford/Volvo/Jag lease formats and some brass hats. These are great vehicles in my stupid opinion --- and I do go too a lot of auctions, and that my friend, is where most are from -- whether it be a Mercedes or a Mustang ... a Ferrari to a Focus, that's where they come from ...

Not to spend a lot of time on this subject ( I will let Bill do that ..l.o.l...). but don't be hesitant.

    I hope this helps ...

so what you are saying is the Maxima is actually selling/buying below market? Edmunds has the trade-in value roughly 9.7-10k.. or are you saying all the cars are overpriced by a few grand? Please elaborate a bit. Or if its just my car, why are you saying the value is 7.5k?

    thanks
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... There is just a few little glitches with yours.

A handshaker dwindles the market by 80%+ .. leaving a small group of buyers for your vehicle, and every dealer knows this.. and hit hurts the re-sale big time.

Actually the miles are fine for a Maxima, they will run waaay over 150K+ .. but the miles to the "average" buyer is high .. they like to see 35/40/50k. And most won't pay for high miles ..But, most will pay for low miles. So on a trade, you will see the $7's .. maybe, just maybe, the ultra low $8's -- depending on your area... and the exact condition of the vehicle.

Me personally ... I would retail this "bad boy" -- detail it out, make it look like a diamond, put a great 5 liner in the biggest paper in the area for let's say ..$9,950 -- and let someone come over and pull your nose hairs out, til you sold it for $9/$9,2/$9,500.

you never answered my question.... is edmunds way off base w/ their estimate? I understand what you are saying, I just don't understand why your reasoning for 3k below what edmunds is calling the "market" trade-in value....

again, please elaborate. I can understand the 5 spd reason, knocks some value, miles a little, but you expect 50-70 range in a 97 if you are a consumer, if not, your dreaming. you are looking at cars 5 years old driving an avg 12-15k/year.
    thanks

Hi! I would like the selling price for a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SE. The mileage is 16,300 miles and its all leather. It has a single cd stereo and keyless entry but no security system. It does have a couple of scratches in the paint on the hood otherwise in great condition. Thanks in advance.

What ya see on Carfax is normal.

Most cars on that lot did come from the auction... Lease returns. See, lots of people lease Volvos. Especially up north (You in Jersey? Check out Montclair Volvo.. very agressive/fair used car pricing). But, they come back, say, a 99 S80 2.9 with a residual of like $2-3K more than theyre doing at the sale.

The Fleet means "Fleet/Lease" (Banks..I.E. Volvo Finance) the other category is "Dealer Consignment" Soif it says "Listed as a dealer sale" it was a car consigned to the auction by a dealer.

And there is the whole gamut at the auctions.. from the good tothe bad to the ugly. Take here in Orlando. There's 4 big auctions here. 1) FL AutoAuction of Orlando in Ocoee. #2 in the world sizewise. HUGE 22 Lanes. Mainly high-line and really late-model stuff. Thousands of ex rental, lease,repos.. all nice late-model stuff. Sure there's some junk, but not much. If I send, say, a 1992 Cadillac there it has to be a low-mile baby doll. Like a 60K miler n PERFECT shape. 2) Orlando-Orange County AA. Mainly total JUNK. I sold a 1985 190E there for $600 tonight. Flaking paint, ran like crap, etc... Mostly trash. Early on they do run SunTrust, and there are a FEW nice cars there, but by 4pm those are gone and the $500-2000 cars line up. 3) Central FL AA. Smaller, MUCH nicer (Personality-wise) version of Ocoee. Bank of America, GECAL, Chase, First Union, Jaguar Credit, Hyundai Factory, Mitsubishi Factory, Volvo Finance, Land Rover financial, VW/Audi/Porsche Credit..etc... Dealer consignment too. Somejunk, but lots of nice stuff. Then there's #4, Sanford Auto Dealers Exchange. Mainly new-car-dealer trades. Mostly mid-level, cheapish stuff. Very few new cars, lots of junk, but tons of $3-7K cars.

    What do I buy at Central? Jags. Volvos. SAABs, Also a lot of 95-97 Jags from GECAL, some 95-97 SAABS from them. Recently a 1996 XJR, A 1996 XJ6, A 1999 9-5, A 1997 900S Ragtop..etc. Sanford? A 1991 325i Ragtop, a 1994 900SE Turbo, A 1995 850 Turbo, etc. Ocoee? A 99 Arnage, 00 S500s, 99 LS400s, A 1990 Vanden Plas with 48K miles...etc. Orange County? Did get a nice 93 Range Roiver there... A clean 91 Alfa 164 once... But very rarely. Mainly I sell there. Although I did swipe a SUPER clean 1990 Land Cruiser there tonight.

So it just depends on the car and what you are looking for... There are auctions where people go to dump their junk (Me and the 190E) but this morning I bought a 2002 Ford Explorer for a customer. 17K miles and PERFECT at Central.

    Hope this helps!

Okay Bill, so how do I go about hooking myself up with one of those 80+ Jags that were in Detroit last week, and more importantly, were you actually in 7th heaven??
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Clean? Not Purple or Yellow or Brown? No Paintwork? Good shoes on the wheels?

If its nice and clean, say its Black in Jersey or White in Tampa... Its an $11-11,500 from a dealer/trade-in/etc car. Nice, but miles are a tich stiff for a 98.

So pop it in the paper for $13,800/bo and let yourself get held down by the neighborhood bully's checkbook till you get $13,200.

    Hope this helps!

    I'm with Terry here.

I dont know where edmunds got their info for that car, but I have yet to look at KBB/NADA/Etc guides. NADA is the most amusing though.

Why> All that matters to me, and I am sure Terry agrees, is what the car is worth at the auction. If cars like yours are inthe $7Ks-8,200 or so at the sale, the that's what yer car be worth. 75K isnt a ton for a 1997,but there's also no shortage of automatics with 50K on them out thereeither.

Remember, the low-mile equipped and painted right in really nice shape always gets the $$.

They got sales ALL over... Jags run in:

Manheim, PA, Detroit Michigan (aka the dump..lol), St Louis, Misery, Orlando-Disney FL, Riverside, People's republic of California and no more Atlanta but now in Dallas.

Between them.. closer to 1,000 units a month. Ex-Rental S/X/XJs, Ex-Lease 98-01s, and a smattering of cars that were once financed by a $25K a month Doc or Lawyer who went belly-up.

...at the feet of the master-san. I have not learned well. But I shall persevere, and learn to walk the rice-paper, by asking too many questions... ;)

99 Maxima GXEs, 35K-ish seem to be stickered right at 16000 (almost exactly Black Book "clean"). You think I should be able to get into it at 13500 (84% of asking price). What did they pay for this car wholesale, maybe 75% of the asking price? What is a realistic opening offer for me? Is 12500 high enough to interest them but low enough to deal up to where I’m going? And how much is the dealer looking to make here, maybe 5-8% of the asking price, $800-1200?

Would you mind giving general prices for the 98-99-00 Max SE and GLE as well? It would apparently be very enlightening for me...

I will go off in my corner, do some more research, and try to figure out how I'm gonna look a guy in the eye that I *know* is lying to me, and tell him I'll give him 75% of what he's asking, then not balk until he squeals and gives it to me for 80-85% of the asking price. Not good at this ... must become obstinate ... immovable object ... or maybe I’ll be lucky enough to find a really good salesman.

Again, I sure appreciate your help. Extremely enlightening, coming from, well, a real-world car guy.

$16K? Yeah. OK... suuure. THey're doing $11Kish at the sales. Well, I suppose some are inthe $12Ks... but they would be all loaded up like SEs.

We talkin no slider no leather, right?

If they doin that, $13,500 is VERY doable. $800-1200 is honestly a bit skinny... they're gonna want to be $1,500-2,000 on a clean used car. I shoot to make $2000 a copy, some cars $4,000-5,000. I dont go on percentages per se.. you cant with used cars. So if I were to buy that Maxima for $11K, I'd ask $13,900 and take $12,800-13K.

So, the key here is to figure out "reality". And that's what you can BUY one for... So start em at $12K... but.. get me some specifics on specific cars...

Check some of the independent lots... they're usually a lot cheaper than the dealer. 2 weeks ago Collier Jaguar of Orlando had an XJ8 with IDENTICAL equipment and color to one I had on the lot, with 2,700 or so more miles for $5-6K MORE!

    Bill or Terry:

You missed my post and I would appreciate some help. Here's the info again.

Need a trade in value for a '98 Pontiac TranSport Montana Extended Length with 42,000 miles, red. Rear air, CD, roof rack, power driver seat, cruise, PW, PL, alloys, privacy glass. Very good condition inside and out, Edmunds says 11,000 + but that seems a tad high to me. Are they close? Wife has her eye on a Toyota Highlander. Thanks in advance for your help. We're in Southern California.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,330
There is a large used car dealer in my town (they advertise as the regional disposal center for numerous banks, etc). All 2-4 year old cars, mostly off lease. I believe their pitch is x days on the lot, then off to the auction so you get "pre-auction prices"

Anyway, my point (I generally do have one), is they have a bunch of 99 Maxs on the lot. They are offering 99 GXEs with normal equipment (convenience package, AT), mileage in the upper 20ks, for $13,800. If it lasts more than a couple weeks, drop the price $500 and stick a red clearance tag on it.

They also drop $500 at a certain mileage point (I think it is 30k), so they probably have some units down around $13,000.

If you happen to be in the S. NJ area, let me know and I can get the # for ya.

    Terry & Bill,
Thanks again for all your help. I'll be much better informed as I shop. Carfax is sort of a mixed blessing, it gives you a lot more information about where the car has been--but then raises more questions in the process. Thanks again,

    Glad to help.

Carfax is really amusing here in FL... ANY TIME a car has a police report made on it, it shows as "Accident Record Found". Now, in their advertising it says they list major accident damage.

We just sold a Peach of a 1-owner SAAB 900 that had NEVER had any paintwork. However, someone bumped into a car at a traffic light...broke the other car's taillight... didnt damage the SAAB tho.

    Showed as an accident.

Don't have my password with me, had to register with a modified user name, it's still the Maxima guy tho...

The value sure does look better on the smaller lots, unfortunately no can do. Personal circumstance says I have to trade-in, and my loan says I have to buy at a franchise dealer. Pretty much worst case on both, eh? At least I'm better prepared now.

Stickguy, I sure appreciate the info and offer of help, that sounds like just what I’m looking for. Unfortunately I have to buy from a new car dealer, plus Austin, Tejas is a bit of a drive from Joizy... ;)

    Hello,

My father is looking to get rid of his 92 Olds Delta 88 with 130K miles, white, with purple top, no dents, am/fm/cassete, no alarm. Not sure what other options are. The reason is that there is very strange noise coming from transmission. He'd rather sell or trade it in while it runs, than get stuck with it if it dies. He lives in NYC.

The other car that I'd like to get your opinion on is 94 Corolla DX sedan, auto, beige ext, power sunroof, alarm, a/c, am/fm/cass, relatively clean inside, 1 owner. Bad news: 152K miles, needs new rear tires, new windshield, has visible exterior damage from 2 minor accidents (localized though if it matters), has it's share of dents and chips. Otherwise runs great. The car is in Northern NJ.

    Thank you

....... So, we have a little 98 EX with 91 klicks.

Gheee whiz, do you drive to work to Mobile Alabama or something ...?

Well -- here's the bad news, it's a coupe' no help there, it's a knuckle scrapper, defiantly no help there.

The good new is ------ it's silver.

So now what ...? To wrangle any money out for this one .. it better look and drive 02, all the service better be 110% and knee deep to go with. No parking lot kisses (just a few here and there) -- and no Mcdonalds leftovers since 99 ...

If it's nice, needs nothing, it should do in and around $6/6,5ish ... if not start deducting.

    Terry.

Thanks much! that is about what I expected to hear. About the mileage, I drove it to college about 130 miles round trip 5 days a week. I think my best bet is private sale (have 2 interested parties) or trade it at a dealership that has their own note lot. It would be a great first car for someone.
