The 00/01 R/T's are strong .. 01's are doing the ultra high $17's with low miles. So, by the time they get them home with transport, service, etc. they will have like $18,500+ in em'. And I'm sure they won't cut em' from the herd for less than $21 and some change.
The new Rams are doing fine .. most Dodge dealers are scooping them up to use as "payment bait" on their lot's ...
Thanks for the info. It was raining so I wasn't able to spend much time looking at it. Now if I really like it, I have to convince the spousal unit that it just followed me home.
The dealers are asking sticker and over for 2000's. Not asking much more for 01's..Can't find any for sale in ads. It's a silver/ash w/charcoal top 8k car with every option.. has had cosmetic paint work but done by an exclusive M-B body shop and the work is phenomenal. I have to look really close for any evidence and I know where to look.. Perfect otherwise!
What do you think I can get for this? Thanks in advance, I appreciate it. I just discovered this forum today!
4x4 106,000 miles Ext./Int: Driftwood (Silver with a slight goldish tint)/Dk Taupe(?) Cloth ABS AM/FM CD Infinity Gold Driver/Passenger Power Seats Cruise Control Fog Lights No Roof Rack (about $300 to replace) Some Damage to Right Fender (hit corner of a garage, probably about $600 to repair) Slight Damage to Liftgate (backed into a different garage with liftgate open!) Interior is pretty clean, in good shape. Average wear to carpets.
New transmission put in a month ago with 3 year/36,000 mile warranty from Mopar. Overall the car drives smooth. I'd be willing to sell in Virginia (where I live) or NJ (where parents live).
I was offered $3000 as a trade-in at a Jeep Dealer, $3200 by a used car dealer. Both advised me to sell privately. One dealer offered 5K but was part of a larger deal for a car they wanted to get rid of (but I didn't want). What should I sell this for, and would it make sense for me to make repairs first? I was thinking I should probably at least get the roof rack replaced.
I am interested in 3 cars, but would like to know which is the overall best value:
'99 Lex GS 300 (47K miles, loaded, 30K +TTL - final price from dealer) color: silver (OK, could live with it) '99 BMW 528i (45K mi, loaded, $31.5K +TTL - final price from dealer) color: Blue (could live with it) '00 Audi A6 (33K mi, loaded, #30K +TTL - final price from dealer) color: Black (not my favorite)
I do have a trade-in: Blue '96 Nissan Maxima GXE, 115K mi, power front seats, no other frills...., but well maintained overall...
My trouble is I do not want to spend more than $26K (after trade-in). The Bimmer drove well, so did the Lex and Audi. Braking was sharper on the Lex, handling maybe a slight edge to the Bimmer, the Audi was competent in many areas but could rank middle of the rung of the three. Loved the look of the Audi best, but don't know if it can hold up quality-wise over the long haul.
Can you guys help me out with prices on these 3 vehicles, and most importantly on my trade-in ?? kbb has my Max at $5K (give-or-take), and would take this price +/- a few dollars from dealer. Am I right here ?
Terry/Bill: My friend (really) is very interested in this 2001-Toyota 4-Runner. We are in Lubbock, Texas. The vehicle is a SR5, Chrome package and Tow Package, White w/grey cloth interior; also has 6-cyl.Auto.; Sun Roof; has 15,300 miles. Looks very nice, a couple small stone dings in front. Dealer was asking $24,995. We left at $23,488. Friend went home to get wife. Will return either tonight or in the morning. I told him I would see what you guys thought and he would know for sure what ball park he is in. These are hard to find in such nice shape, so I know he needs to make up his mind fast.

on a 1996 Black Explorer Sport, "Sport" trim line, 79k miles. All options including leather, power everything. Interior in beautiful shape, exterior above average. Aftermarket wheels, side steps, dual exhaust. Nearly new high-end Michelin LTX tires. (2WD in Southern California)
...... I don't think you have enough options .. what no SatNav ..? l..o..l..
Well it sounds nice. The color and the miles are going to be the "hard sell" here - and of course it's a 2WD. On a trade, I'm thinkin' you are knocking on that $16 door, in sweet home Alabama.
Yes the 4-Runner is a 2WD. Sorry, don't know how I missed that? I kept saying to myself, remember to put 2WD and guess what, I forgot! Old age is he$$.
Thanks Terry, I'll talk to my friend in the morning and let you know.
Looking to trade at Honda dealer in Texas. The details: black, automatic, pwr moonroof, a/c, cassette, 63K miles. I would call it good (as defined in KBB) condition with normal body scratches and dings for a 5 yr old car. Mechanically sound. Would appreciate your advice.
Ok, it has 69 klicks .. it's all loaded up. The interior looks A1 -- and the exterior is just average .. l..o..l... It's usually the other way around. You guys must be Vegetarians ....
On the trade side, in and around the short $4's .. the tires will help sell this one.
.... These are nice little vehicle's .. and they do sell well.
This one has the slider, auto and the miles aren't left of center.
If the service is up to date .. clean, knee deep in black roundee's, and needs nothing, then you are on the path of around $6 on a trade, make sure you get this puppy detailed before you try to trade it. Black is horrible dirty ...
....... It's a 00 Dakota SLT with 2WD, it's a club cab.
Miles are just ok ... it kinda sounds nice. $17,900 is absolutely a great deal -- IF, you are Bill Gates. What ..? Does all the sales folks there drive Benz's for a demo ...?
$15 is aaalll the money .. it's a V6 right ..? 2WD drive right ..?
I would offer them $14 .. and get the ball rollin' --- $17,900 ...? Gheeez.
Same way with the 01 Ram ... $16,900 is aaalll the money and the bag of chips.
So here's the deal Lucille .. the miles are super for the year and depending on the condition - inside and out - and new sneakers, color etc. the Jeepster could be worth in the $8's on a trade ...
........ Thank you for the wonderful description of your vehicle ...!
You get a A+ ....
It has some lumps and bumps .. and the miles are on the "hard boiled" side, but it will still pull some Jingle --
Clean it up .. make it look new (or as close to) .. have all the service records on the front seat, place a nice 4/5 liner in the biggest paper in the area for $4,950 -- and let some nice person give you $4,2/$4,500 for it ...
My Acura car was in a major accident, but not totaled. It was fully repaired at the Acura dealer. It is very clean and runs like new. It actually looks better now than it did before the crash. Should I expect to have to discount my sales price for this car because of the accident? If so, then by how much? This is a '94 Legend L, auto, leather. It only has 77,000 miles.
The accident was my fault. The car was hit on the side at the rear passenger door (4. right qtr post). The car wasn't driveable. The total claim was $6331. The major replacement parts were RT door assy, LT quarter panel, RT radius arm, RT/rear wheel, RT knuckle, upper cntrl arm, hut and bearing, RT shock absorber. It appears that all parts were OEM, except for the hub and bearing, which were from NAPA - NWPP. The car was partially repainted. Some molding was also replaced. If you need any other info, let me know.
I'm selling this car as a private party. I plan on being very up front about the damage. I have the full report from the dealership about what was done to the car and how much it cost.
The reason I'm looking at new or almost new trucks is that I want something reliable and reasonably comfy for light towing, some long distance driving, and general second car duties. The Home Depot run is just one need. The F150 sounds nice for local work but for outta state driving I'd feel better in something a tad newer. Taking the mileage "heat" off the 9-5 is also a benefit. I've been racking up some miles on the Saab lately.
Anyhoo, that's my thought process. I've been looking at '99-'01 Dakota club cabs, '99-'01 Ranger XLT super cabs, and standard cab full size 1/2 tons like Ram 1500, F150 XLT, and Silverado 1500. Short beds will fit in my garage.
Once I get a better grip on this I may make a trip to MickeyTown....ya know.....for research purposes.
Well, door #1 is one of my personal favorites, great vehicles. The Lexus is about the strongest across the board. the dealer has it priced a little high for the miles -- $29 is all the money, too many klicks for the kash ..
Door #2, well I guess Ya just got to like em' -- obviously the dealer loves this one, 45k ..? Too much Jingle for his asking price .. again $29 should flat kill it.
Door #3, Another fave of mine .. these A6's Quattro's are sweet, miles are kinda Ok for the year .. Again another $29 is the EOW. (end of the world) .. l..o..l...
I guess 29 is a number you might play on the lottery this week.
On your end of the deal -- I'm thinkin $3 should about do it.
So what's all this info mean ...? I have no idea. l..o..l..
It means you should be able to trade your vehicle and "around" $26 plus the TTL.
You are defiantly in the strike zone on all three. I'm not one to really recommend particular vehicles -- But, I would try door #1 and #3 waaay before door #2, unless your ego is on the weak side.
I about agree with you on ALL counts.... Thanks a bunch.. If you were a chick, I'd plaster a wet one on ya
I'll go see how those "doors" respond to my new and improved final offer...And yes, door #2 was my wife's favorite, while door #1 was mine. I guess we'll see which door wins !
It is a Eddie Bauer V8 AWD completely loaded with 80k miles.Never had anything major wrong with it other than maintence, brakes, tires, regular oil changes. Its been a great car to us,but getting nervous of the high milage and would like a 3rd seat.
Went to dealer to see what we can get. High 6's he says!! Every site I go to gives me $10,760-13,550.
Whats the "real world" price we can get,or should we just keep it.
Kinda keep in mind of what site you were lookin' at -- And what information you requested.
Not to sound smart, but most folks can use these sites incorrectly. As an example, most people use *Excellent* when Edmunds asks for condition.
Excellent means: Your 97 looks 01, it has new tires to the tune of 5/7k or less. Door dings, dent's are limited to 3/4 that can be seen up close .. not from 20ft away. The fenders don't have parking lot kisses from the Key's to Kansas, from Carts, poles, and golf bags that have been slung on the trunk, hood and grinded 20 lb's of dirt that have sitting on the vehicle since Jesus was a baby.. .l.o.l....
The interior should look like .. Adults have used it. Not the "Planet of the Apes" cast, that has coffee, Mcdonalds and the New York Times, that has been used as towels, seat covers and window cleaner .. since day 1.
Not picking on you or anybody .. but Bill and myself try to get the most accurate information too you, based on what you tell us. And I always recommend a vehicle get's cleaned and detailed before you enter the market to sell or trade it -- Remember if you want "tall" money for your vehicle .. it better "Stand Tall" all the way around. And not look like it was in one of the scenes, from the "Texas Chain saw" movie -- l..o..l..
In your case .. if it's clean, knee deep -- well you get the picture by now, your biggest adversary is the miles. You are waaay up there for a 97 domestic. Now, I'm not standing there looking at the vehicle, but I would have to say it's worth "in and around" that $7,5 figure --- and on the retail side .. $9,950 would be a good *asking* price and let some bad actor, from some bad movie "steal" it from you, for $8,9/$9,5 ...
On the 2001-4-Runner in Lubbock. We went back today, discussed little things like the several cars I had bought there etc. And, my friend finally agreed to $22,715.00. After your response last night, we knew going in at $23,488, he was buying at 23 or less. He is one happy camper! I told him about you and he said to make sure I said THANKS for him.
I know you heard it before, but it is worth repeating: You Guys Are Great!
Ok,I did have a smile on my face! Heres the bad news If what you are saying is the real deal.We have negative equity as we still owe $10k.I was hoping to pay it off and have $1k for a down payment.
You know my dh is having it detailed this week as a matter of fact,we just got too anxious and went in to see right after we came home from a car show.I'll see after the detail but it is "clean".No dings, paints excellant and interior has no flaws.I'll let you know...maybe I'll keep it and it pray it lasts to 200k.
I am looking to trade my 96 bmw 328i. The bmw dealership is offering me 13K for my car it is:
96 328i black Sport Package Automatic Heated Seats Traction Control 72000 miles Dealer maintained (this dealer) interior and exterior clean tires < 10000 miles
ALl the online guides (except KBB) including black book, Edmunds and Intellichoice are all higher than their offer. I haven't checked any recent Manheim sheets but the dealers offer was low compared to the prices a few months back.
Thanks in advance....one more time on this one. a 1996 Black Explorer Sport, "Sport" trim line, 79k miles. All options including leather, power everything. Interior in beautiful shape, exterior above average. Aftermarket wheels, side steps, dual exhaust. Nearly new high-end Michelin LTX tires. (2 Wheel Drive in Southern California)
Hey Terry and Nattlie, From what i read both of you are the experts around here. I bought a 96 dodge neon a year and half ago with 40,000 mile for $4300 with a 3 month warranty, which i thought was the best deal of my life, Its turned into a nightmare...the maintanance costs of non regular repairs are piling up quick!! The point being i am thinking about getting another car, this time a mid size (1996+) japenese sedan for around 5-6000$ with 80-105,000 miles. Any suggestions which one to go for?? Which car would be a good buy for that price.
In NC and will soon be looking to trade my green 1999 Corolla LE. 48K miles, good but not pristine condition (virtual walkaround was "good"). 5-speed ac/pwr windows&locks cruise am/fm/tape deck
interior will be about perfect if i get it detailed, exterior has an average share of parking lot "kisses" from doors and carts. tires are original but still have a good 15k worth of life left.
.... Right now, Corolla's are on a role, especially LE's
Unfortunaltly, yours has two small drawbacks .. it's a handshaker and the miles.
I have probably bought 20 or so in the last 6 weeks and they average 28k, sunroofs -autos- stuff like that, for $8,5ish. On your end, I'm thinkin' you will be in and around that $7ish figure on a trade...
Me: "I'll give you 23,5 on the M3." Him: "Umm, before TTL?" Me: "Out the door"
Him: "I'll need to run that by my manager" Me: "OK" Him: "My manager's out" Me: "No problem, just call before you take it to auction" Him: "OK"
Nothing so far... So, I just drove my friend's boss' Solara that CarMax wouldn't buy. (He didn't have time to do it personally, and the paperwork got munged)
I'm offering 23-4k - worst case is I have to trade a loaded 2001 Solara W/ 5k on something I like better.
I'll keep you posted if anything interesting happens...

Let's see what Ya got ..

Thanks for the info. It's not an ES but the only options the ES has and mine doesn't are the fogs and leather - I'll adjust accordingly.

From what i read both of you are the experts around here.
5-speed
ac/pwr windows&locks
cruise
am/fm/tape deck
interior will be about perfect if i get it detailed, exterior has an average share of parking lot "kisses" from doors and carts. tires are original but still have a good 15k worth of life left.

Hmmmmm, you don't think Bill had one of those operations do you ....?
Nhaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Terry, you asked for feedback, so...
Me: "I'll give you 23,5 on the M3."
Him: "Umm, before TTL?"
Me: "Out the door"
Him: "I'll need to run that by my manager"
Me: "OK"
Him: "My manager's out"
Me: "No problem, just call before you take it to auction"
Him: "OK"
Nothing so far... So, I just drove my friend's boss' Solara that CarMax wouldn't buy. (He didn't have time to do it personally, and the paperwork got munged)
I'm offering 23-4k - worst case is I have to trade a loaded 2001 Solara W/ 5k on something I like better.
I'll keep you posted if anything interesting happens...
