Who did we miss?
PS.. I think that Blue ML320 is closer to 18,500-19K...
Bill
Terry.
I just figured you were at another Vauxenslobbin swap meet.
Terry.
NISSAN SENTRA GXE
-14000 miles only
-good/average condition (except for normal wear and tear)
-properly maintained and serviced
And let's hope his zipcode doesn't fall lower than Charlotte in a dark color. l..o..l...
Terry.
OK. If the '99 is about $19K on the wholesale side, what say you on a '98, also blue, with leather and slider and about 50 clicks as well? Seen any across the block? What would I expect to pay from a dealer?
as always, thanks.

Remember when Q was buying his Lexus ..?
He didn't know whether to spend the same dollar amount on a 99 LS400 with 29k .. or spend that same on a 00 with 50k. Miles always win out .. I will always spend the Xtra jingle on a low miler.
But anyway, to answer your question .. for starters, this one has leather .. a HUGE plus, especially on a Benz. And on the miles side .. one has 12k a year and the other has over 16k a year .. another big plus. The problem here is the -color- .. but you are lookin' in and around that $20/$21 figure .. so figure a Dealer has it priced around $25ish and will take $23ish ...
I hope this makes sense ...
Terry.
Q
Super nice? No Paintwork?
$9,000ish I think with the low miles on a trade, $10,500 as a "get" on a retail deal asking $11,250
Bill
I have been, this week, at Auctions like 24-7 like a madman. Trying desperately to buy Inventory.
And watching everything go way the hell out of the book.
Even the banks are being stupid. Is a 1997 XJ6, paintwrk all down the right side, SUPER mint otherwise with 75K... Is that car worth $17,700?
Didnt think so.
If it is, dad's driver is going to the sale.. haha.
Seriously. They nuts all over. Damned 95-7 XJs are going for more today than they were last summer I think. Did at least grab a straight 96 XJ for a customer.. 52K... Hell, it was under clean book and Unibody units with paintwork and low miles were out of clean book sos I thinks we did OK
Oh yeah, my DSL was actin up too.
Bill
If it is a $28K wholesale piece, then you ask $31,900 and take $30,500-31K.
Hope this helps!
Bill
Speaking of the devil himself .. l.o.l...
How are you ..?
How's the that "fat daddy" vehicle doing ...?
How's the family ..?
Terry.
How is the Magical perfect LS?
We want an update!

Q
I'm not much of a betting man .. but I would have laid down a bunch, thinkin' prices would have spiraled lower --- Now that's a bet I would have lost .. Big time!
I'm sure you are diggin' on that LS, I just picked up a LS430, with 4,200 miles .. not a bad "Sunday go to meetin'" vehicle ... :-)
Have a good one ..
Terry.
Q
Any interest in my ML320 described in post #6863?
Thanks for the advice on the working with dealers on the trade in on my ML.
Steve
So, Terry, to answer your question. No. I don't completely understand. I thought that, given the same miles, the vehicle that is older would be worth less. Wouldn't that stand to reason?? I agree, miles always win out. But we're talking about the same mileage here.

I have 2 vehicles on my lot. One is a 98 Lexus GS300 with 35k, the other is a 00 GS300 with 45k, both are super clean .. as a rule, the 98 will be the easier sale -- one has 8,700 miles a year, the other has almost 23,000 miles a year ...
The 98 is priced at $28,900 .. the 00 is priced at $32,900. I loose $500 on the 00, because of the high miles (and actually more, because of the customers reluctance with the miles) . I gain $1,700 on the 98 because of the low miles.
That's a $2,300 swing in miles. .. I'm better off in the 98 and I'm quite sure it will be gone way before that high miler 00.
See, we are not just talking miles .. we are talking years too.
Maybe this makes sense ...

And most of all .. a ML with no leather, man the kiss of death. In this case, low miles wouldn't help it .. l.o.l....
Terry.
Does it look like a vehicle that has 52 klicks ..? Just because it has low miles .. it better look like it too. Parking lot kisses, and French Fry invasions don't help .. l.o.l... and it better be knee deep in rubber.
Not to hurt ones feelings .. these vans are coooold on the market right now, the Avon facility has been closed for months and there is a bunches for sale at the auctions, most are doing $8 or less ...
All the figures you have just posted -- those are Retail figures, those are Asking prices if the vehicle was for sale in the papers or lot side. Me Personally .. If I was going to retail it, I would be $9,950 in the paper and take $9/$9,5.
All those figures you have, are only important if you can get em' .. So too hopefully answer your question .. I would be in that Suburban today, it sounds like they are trying to earn your business.
I hope this helps, and don't shoot the messenger .. l..o..l...
Terry.
Quite yelling! ..I thought I was at an auction there for a moment... l..o..l...
Terry.
Remember, Edmunds, Kelly, etc, are just a guide. It is not uncommon for them to be off by that much.

Also the dealer got to 8,000 by taking his idea of Black Book (8,600) and then deducting for one tire (100 deduct, heah right), 125 for front end alignment (no unusual tire wear and he only did walk around did no drive so how did he figure that, also had an alignment and 2 new front tires 6 months ago) and then 350 to "prep for retail" (are auction vehicles preped for retail?).
I still think he was trying to get into my pocket.
Ed
I see you are from the DC area, your area is known for the ultra side of high, across the board . l..o..l.. I have been to the Balt/DC auction a few times, especially on the Import side. If I was to take your vehicle too, let's say the Statesville auction in NC, which is now, the Van capital til about August, I doubt I could ring the bell at $8,2/$8,5 on a push. Again, I'm not picking on it, nor do I mean to offend you. .. it's just the market right now.
I'm not saying it can't be worth an Xtra $1/$200 .. but I'm not there, I can't see it, feel it or touch it. -- and of course, I'm not the decision maker there. But all and all, I would have to say, they are just about dead on. And they have a UC Mgr that seems to know what he is doing.
I hope this helps a little ...
Terry.
Just wanted to let you know how it turned out (Msg. 6677).
I put it in the paper yesterday for $6500 and sold it today for $6500!
Good Skippy!
Trading it in to get a Passat GLX...dealer 1 appraised $8000 & dealer 2 @ $7000...
Payoff: $10,558
Mileage: 13100
- normal wear and tear & well maintained
- few scratches (dealer found it)
Is this fair though? How much should the trade in value is? Is the payoff amount even relevant on getting a trade in value for my car?
Thanks in advance for all your help and input!
Auto ..? Slider ..? color ..?
Come on, work with us here....!
Terry :-)
What I didn't tell him (but told the lady who called about it) were the intermittent ABS light, the tape player that my 3-yr old has been feeding coins into, and an inoperative lock on the driver's side. Other than that, it's NICE.
So I have two calls in six days, one serious, that person shows up to look at it, and comes back an hour later with $5700. Easiest sale ever.
This makes the 2nd car within a year that I sold on the street within a few bucks of what Terry said it should go for. So I'm sitting here chanting "I am not worthy.."
Thanks, mon!

Im sure it can be frustrating, but me and Terry base our appraisals on what the market is doing. If I used KBB or NADA or even relied on Black Book, I'd be in trouble. Here's a good example:
1995 Mercedes-Benz S500. Medium Grey/Grey Leather. Mint condition. No paint, books and records. Very clean car. Best bid the local MB dealer got was $15,500. Now, color hurt it a bit, if it was Smoke or Brilliant Silver, it may have hit $17K.. but that would be on the mother of all pushes.
In "good" condition, KBB hits it at $18,030. Oddly enough, the customer wanted $18,000. If you go by kbb.com, this car should have pegged "Excellent" and that brings it to $19,590.
There's a solid 20% differential.
Was it a nice car? Oh yes it was. Was it a $19K car? Retail it was. If I had bought it for $15,500 I'd have put it on the lot with an asking price of $18,900 and I'd have shot for $17,800-18K.
Scroll up several thousand... it happens a lot. Don't feel bad!
As far as recon goes, that sounds about right. If anything, low. I average $500 a car. Som cars $1,500, some cars just an oil change and safety check.
Bill
Broken sunroof would scare me a bit though.. I would have hit ya around $8,500ish on it.
But based off of invoice on a new Altima, I think you did well. Enjoy the new car!
Bill
I pay about the same money for a 45K mile 99 XJ8 as I do for a 45K mile 98 XJ8.
People li9ke low miles for the year. If you follow this thread, I deal in a lot of Jaguars. Those are probably more sensitive to mileage than any other Luxury car. Also, high-mile Jags are a PAIN to sell. Period. I'd rather have a 45K mile 98 XJ8 Black on Black than a 50K mile 2000 XJ8 in Silver or Topaz or White.
Low miles? 10K/yr or Less? CLean book or better at the sale. 20K a year? Well under rough book.
Bill
With the low miles I figured that "Retail Road" was the way to go with that one!
Now go find a nice Jaguar!
Bill
If its a 4-Cylinder, then I think we are in the $11,000-11,300 range.
If its a V6, then we're closer to $12Kish.
Whatcha think T-Man?
Bill
Thanks guys.
Q
P.S. My wife said she wouldn't want me to get anything I'd be MORE picky about. I guess she's having Explorer flashbacks.... :-)
They have to get a Van, and has been to a few dealers. The Honda dealer say's $12,000. The other vehicle is, a black on black 01 Lincoln Town car with 19k, it's a signature series, it has the power roof, heated memory seats, chrome wheels, Alpine cd system. It's like the LSC, very nice, if you like those kinda boats. They are saying $22,000, what's your thinking here.?
Again, thanks for the help!
If it's as clean as you say it is .. just a super nice "stand tall" vehicle, then $12 is waaay on the loooow side. I know $13 should be the minimum ..and depending on this particular vehicle, it could do more -- I certainly can't find nice clean low mile LSC's for anything even close to $12, let alone $13.
The Town Car, is loaded up .. (it's in Philly.. right?) .. it's a Signature, with all the stuff and it's black. I just bought 12 TC's in the last 40 days. Nice clean ones, toyed out, , knee deep, little or no scratches, dents, dings and lookin' 02 are doing well over the $23 range and heading towards that $24+ area, with that type of equipment.
I gotta think, since you are dealing with a Honda dealer, they are missing these vehicles .. because they don't have any Idea what they may be worth.
Perhaps, try a Honda dealer .. or dealers, that have multiple franchises on the block. Ya know like a Chevy, Chrysler, Honda, Subaru, Ford dealer -- this way you have more than one person that can make decisions.
I hope this helps ... and please, let us know.
Terry.
Ok, now we want a What ..?
Oh Ya, back to this black and black stuff ... Your a pain in my butt.
Oooooh Kaaay, it's a 99, with 40klicks, it has the Nak, HID .. so I'm thinkin', they might trade you even .. or your vehicle and a few bucks. I would have to know more about the actual vehicle.
Me personally, I would get me some black spray paint -- and Wango Tango, you have black interior ... l..o..l...
Terry :-)
At least I can do one thing right .. l..o..l....
Terry ;-)
