Thanks. The vehicle doesn't exist yet, or at least I haven't found it. It was more of a "what if" situation. I thought about the spray paint, but decided it would be too much work with all of the prep work. :-) And even though you say I'm a pain in your butt, I can read between the lines and feel the love. I just wanted to get a rough idea....

2000 Excursion Limited V-10 4WD 23,000 miles. Black and tan leather all good.
2002 TL Type-S 7500 miles Blue, black interior.
Just curious what these would bring on the block if I had to get out of the country quickly (just kidding)

Anyway, the Excursion, if it's ultra nice inside and out should be "around" $24, maybe $25 on a loooong hard push.

And, the "S" if it's still new .. a Very strong $26ish.

I think you oughta pop this sucker in the paper for $18,500/bo and I bet you get $17K+++++ for it. In fact, I think you can easily get $18K for this sucker.

Look at how SKippy did.. A (by his words) MINT under 50K mile 1995 Chrysler. he just sold it for "All the money"

The way to go with this car I think. Super nice, super desireable, low-milers always bring big $$.

Thanks for the input, painful as it was. Bottom line for my wife and I is that we aren't going to let go of a mini-van we really like that low for a Suburban that wasn't exactly what we wanted (color, features). Come Sept. when the stork brings #5 the extra room would have been nice, but we can get by with our 7 passenger van that will be paid off in Sept, bank the payments for a few months and then look at ordering a 2003 that's got everything we want. She'll keep the van and I'll put my 1988 Ranger in semi-retirement.

I live in Minnesota and have a '98 Windstar GL that I'm looking to tradein. It's in Good to Excellent condition with 72000 miles on it.

Optional add-ons include towing package and bucket seats in the second row. Bluebook is around $7900-8600. Dealer is offering $7000.

a break from the normal questions on here... I have narrowed my next car purchase down to a 2001 Mustang GT, in either Mineral Grey or Silver. These cars are obviously difficult to find used (barely 2 years old). What would you recommend as the best method for finding one? I'm in no hurry, and have been doing the usual internet searches so far. Also, is my estimate of 17-18k reasonable? Thanks so much, you guys are great!

I'm not sure if this is the right board or not, I'm new here. Anyway, I was hoping someone, preferrably someone familiar with dealer practices, could help me. A couple of months ago another vehicles bumper fell off hitting the entire left side of my Honda Civic EX 4dr (1998). Repairs were made which totalled around $400.00. I'm still not happy with the repairs, and after sitting at the repair shop several times, I give up (Country Companies will not authorize a rental for any additional days since they feel it was "repaired."). I'm so sick of this whole ordeal. At this point I'm afraid that if I trade it in or sell it to a private party that I'll lose out on the fair market value once they find out that it was involved in an accident (which is required here). Someone told me that I might be eligible for diminished value on my vehicle. As a little history: 1998 Honda has 30,000 miles, maintained meticulously mechanically (inside and out), custom tires and rims, tint, cd changer, alarm, no dings, dents, scratches, etc. My Honda is very well maintained. I tried contacting the local dealer to see what they would give me as a trade in knowing my vehicle was involved in an accident (basically wanted a value difference between an undamaged vehicle and one that was but "fixed."). They because of legal reasons they could not help me. Country Companies Legal Department has agreed to review my case if I can give them some value amount. Since I don't want to "pull a value out of the hat" I was hoping someone here with dealer trade in experience could help. I'm at my wits end and firmly believe with the huge hassle that Country has given me that they should be responsible for this (insured originally tried to flee the scene of the accident, adjusters were extremely rude and did not want to take 100% liability for the insured, district manager was rude and worse than adjuster, etc., etc.). ..... Wow, that's some post... l.o.l....

There is vehicles that are in "fair" shape, there is vehicles that are in "good" shape -- and of course, there is vehicles that are in "Excellent" shape.

Along with the condition of that vehicle, there is a factor that comes into play .. and that is the miles on that vehicle.

If what you are saying, is accurate to the tee, then I would be wanting the "Ins" co. to have the vehicle taken care of. It has extremely low miles and based on what you are telling us is in "excellent" shape .. that's quite a combo, and hard to re-place unless the work is done right.

I feel, you just need a quality body man, that can do top notch work, for a vehicle that has had "top notch" care --- That's what I would be lookin' for.

Obviously I can't see your vehicle, but a crummy $400 job can "reflect" $1,000 of bad effort. So, I would be up someones A**.

........ These can make a great buy on the used market .. right now, 01's with 12/15k. HSE's are doing "around" $38/$41 at the block -- So they are not burning through any driveways ...

Now, the LS430's .. that's a whole different story. They are stronger than the 101st Airborne in a fire fight. They are doing in the $50's all over. So, I would have to think, depending on the miles, anything under $60 would work. I just sold mine with 4,8k for $56 .. so this might give you an idea.

I'm still searching for a Toy-4Runner but an acquaintance informed me that his '01-PathFinder-XE-2WD, auto, champagne color (cloth interior obviously), and 16kmi (with a 5/100 mfr extended warranty, is for sale and has been for a while.
He has dropped the price down to $18k and it seems like a good deal (well below wholesale in most guidebooks).
What are these going for at the blocks?

I called him, and he countered with $37 .. So, I was up most of the night pondering... should I take $37 or should I take $56 --- I walked the floors til dawn, it was one of the hardest decisions in my life, I called friends, family, business partners -- As the first light hit the sky, I came to the conclusion that $56 was better than $37 ....

I am currently in the process of buying a new or used Celica.

I would like to use my 86 XR as a trade. It has 156,000 km's on it and was repainted two years ago. I know the car is not worth much, but would like to get an idea.

The car runs rough and in the three years of owning it it has never been correctly repaired by numerous mechanics. I paid 2,400 CDN for it with about $2,000 in repairs since I purchased it over 3 years ago (4,400 CDN is about 3,000 US).

If I trade it in they will obviously have to drive it and I suspect they will try to offer me 750 CDN or something like that since it runs very rough. I imagine they would send a car like that straight to the auction.....Would they even accept this as a trade?

I saw one on the street, thought the price was pretty good.

00 Toyota Corolla CE sedan, burgandy/tan cloth, automatic, air, cruise, rear spoiler, power windows and locks, no alloys (had correct Corolla hubcaps), no sunroof, 25k miles, looked new.

Owner wants $9200. This car 'isn't my cup of tea' but it sounds pretty cheap for the car.

$17-18K? I doubt it. These suckers arent THAT tough to find, but they aredoing that or sometimes better across the auction block right now...

Maybe towards the fall.... I'd say you'd be closer to the $19-20K range right now.

...read the part where I said 'not my cup of tea'. I have no interest in (not mention money for) buying it, the car just seemed like a 'good deal' for someone in the market. I could *never* own an automatic Corolla with a tan interior and no roof. I suspect this $9200 is payoff, it's in a neighborhood where lots of non-Chicago people move because it's 'safe' and 'pretty', then realize they can't keep their cars cuz there's nowhere to safely and legally park. Someone wanting to unload it, in other words. (Room door slams in a huff (-;).

If I had nine grand to spend on a car, I'd get an older Corolla/Civic/Protege/Golf/Saab/Volvo/somethin' handshaker for around town use (spend < $5k) AND an old Cadillac sedan (60s) or early 70s 280SEL for stylin'.

Brentwood...that car, BRAND NEW after $1500 Ford rebate, can be bought for less than $20k. You're telling me that a year and a half old one with 12-18k miles sells for around $19k-20k?

I'm not doubting you, as you certainly have more daily interaction with the market...but we both know these cars aren't exactly Honda Accords when it comes to deprecation. As I recall, the 3-year hit is around 52%. The 2000 5-speed GT's with 26k miles are easily picked up for $15-16k here in Southern California.

The ones that are doing $18Kish tho.. we're talking Silver, Leather, Mach Stereo, the works. Loaded to the hilt and as new.

Here's a car that nearly hit $12K today: (I was on it for a customer and had to walk away shaking my head and muttering..)

1998 GT Coupe 5-Speed. Teal with Grey Patterned cloth. VERY nice shape overall, but the leather on the steering wheel was sliced up and a few tiny scuffs. Power windows and locks and mirrors, cd, 16" Wheels, No Cruise.
32K miles tho.

It did like $11,600 across the block IIRC. I was off it after $10,500 (Hey, he has a budget to stick to

I did see a similarly equipped 01 with 20K on it but it had 17"s and an Automatic. It did $16,700 today. So you figure by the time its on the front line they got $17,200 in it and if it were me I'd want to get $19K out of it at the very least.

Equipment seems to swing these a bit... Also, I am in FL too.. prices may be higher here. Loosk like an 00 is buyable for $14Kish to $14,700 or so in Cali, so $16K seems certainly doable. $15K is cheap.

165000 miles, runs good, body has minor nicks/dings but no other damage.

I just looked at these for my boss. A normal GT 5 speed coupe is about 24.3K (cloth) and 24.8k (leather). Deduct 1,500 rebate, and about 1,700 discount (brings you close to invoice) and you are in the low to mid 21s for a 2002 (more if you get the mach 1000 radio).

What's a fair value to expect for my '93 Civic Si?
It has 138,000 miles on it, still runs well, has some paint dullness / exterior flaws, but is mechanically sound and feels tight overall. Windshield has wiper scrapes in it. Some coffee stains on the interior, but no foul odors. Recent tires and brakes.

The Kelly blue book rating on the car is "good" and blue book value was stated as $2595 on their web site.

Any idea what I can expect?

they are easy to price...look up invoice on the one you want, add $300. Deduct $1500. Dealers in So Cal will fall over each other to sell at $300 over invoice on this model.

Brentwoodvolvo: What is the best way for me to acquire a 2001? Talk to several brokers and write down exactly what I want? I really can't spend more than 17 or so, and I'm in no hurry.

Sell it yourself. People pay stupid money for Hondas. I sold a '91 LX with 208k miles last September for $2500. I wouldn't think you'd have any trouble getting that, or more as long as it looks decent, and everything works. Wait to see what the experts have to say though. :-)

....... Mr. Quentin is absolutely right .. there is a lot of folks out there looking for good secondary transportation ..

If it's nice, the service has been done promptly, the body looks good (no bullet holes, no raccoon families, no 1993 newspapers) .. and runs like a top ... then you should get it detailed, make it look 98ish and drop it in the biggest newspaper in your area -- for let's say $4,950, and let some nice rocket scientist "steal" it from you for $3,5/$4,5. --- (If it's not nice, start deducting)

I appreciate your defense. I would never 'bomb around the bars' in a nine thousand dollar car, whydya think I have a $1500 twelve year-old Saab? Plus, I don't think I could drive the last generation Corolla unless I were over sixty and wore a housecoat and slippers (-;. In answer to your question though, the car in question is *ding ding ding* in Lakeview (sitting on Buckingham between Broadway and Halsted, nightmare parking central). Like I said, lots of folks from Michigan, St. Louis, Ohio, etc. hook up with some dumb real estate agent who is equally clueless about where to live here, then get stuck living somewhere they have to spend four hundred bucks a month on parking tickets.
