I have a 97 Oldsmobile Silhouette GLS Ext. minivan with 52,000 miles. This vehicle is loaded with leather seats, 4 captian chairs, CD player, aluminum wheels, rear air conditioning with rear controls, and much more. The vehicle is not in the greatest shape (a little paint pealing from the luggage rack and breaks may need a little work) but at worst, I would rate the vehicle at better than fair condition. How much should I expect as a fair trade-in value.

How about those Subarus (Legacy and Impreza)
    or Mazda Protege?
One of my inlaws is in the same situation as your co-worker so we're hunting for the same vehicles, probably.

Looks to me Lance should play "Terry" and get the seller of the 97GP together with the coworker needing to buy. Pretty close match-should work with a little Lance...Fixer.

The reason there's a Grand Prix seller at all is because it's on its third tranny in 45,000 miles...(the seller is a 50ish woman; I don't think we can chalk this one up to user abuse!) The two co-workers share an office, so I don't think that'd be an ideal arrangement! BTW, my name isn't Lance, it's Dave. :-) (long story how I got the name.)

As it is, co-worker #1 is really fixated on this Nissan 240SX. In the absence of a superior alternative in the local area at this price point, I see no reason she shouldn't get it. (She really liked the '91 Saab 9000, too, until I told her about repair frequency/costs.)

Most people I meet online think my name's Lance!
The name came about when I was still in the Air Force- I was a radar/navigation specialist on B-1B Lancers.

...... B-1B's, some real "fat daddys" there -- 3 trannys on a GP, Wow, now that's a strange one, but I guess it does happen ..

..... So, we have a long box Silhouette with 52 klicks.

The miles are fine for the year.. it has the leather, quads, hot and cold running air, (4 or 5dr...?)

If it's a 5 dr, then be thinkin' around the low $9's -- and if it's a 4dr, you will be in the soft side of the $8's on a trade.

    I hope this helps ...

    ..... Coupe right ...?

The miles are low for the year.. it sounds nice and clean, and it's a great color for that vehicle.

On a trade, probably in and around $10ish .. if you retail it, I would through it in the paper for $12,950 and let some nice sand dweller have it for $11,7/$12,5 ...

Good luck .. and let us know.

    Terry.

....... The miles are nice and low for the year .. and it has brand new sneakers.

Not knowing what part of the country your in, the color sounds like "no sale green". If it's clean, little or no parking lot kisses, and the french fry invasions, were never held in your arena and looks 01 .. you might be lookin' at the high $14's .. $15 maybe.

This is defiantly a vehicle for "Retail Rd." .. make it look new, make a great 5 liner Ad in the largest paper in your area. Start it up $17,900, then let some nice person take it off your hands for $16,5/$17,5 ...

    Hey, good luck ...

Bit of a Zoo and I saw some wackiness. Hey, what's up with 00 Continentals? All of a sudden they're hot? What up with THAT?

    Otherwise, what/who did we miss?

How are 9-3s doing, out of curiousity?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    A tad stronger than before...

Did see a 99 SE sell yesterday for $9K but it had paintwork on the right side, was a bit edgy and had 59K miles and cheap-[non-permissible content removed] tires.

    I didnt want it.

OOhh.. those are nice. I'm sure retail is better here, but I'd feel a lot safer if Terry did this one.

I have a 98 Dodge Caravan SE, roof rack, power windows and doors, no other options, 55K miles. It's in excellent condition, or at least it was until I put it through the garage door. Oops. The damage is purely cosmetic -- it was only going about a mile per hour -- but it totals $3800. It's all stuff like paint scratches, damage to the windshield wipers, cracked windshield, etc.

My husband and I had been planning to trade the car in the next year, and now we're wondering if it might be a good time to trade it now. We can either have it fixed and trade it looking GREAT, or we can take the insurance money and trade it looking pretty dinged up and use the cash as part of the down payment. We're wondering what's likely to be most advantageous financially for us. Will $3800 worth of cosmetic damage translate into an otherwise good-condition car being worth $3800 less, or what?

    Thanks for any advice!

What price can I expect in Central,NJ if I try to trade my 1996 Toyota Avalon XLS, 94K miles, exterior scratches; 1 previous accident - no body damage - exhaust system damaged and replaced; newer tires, battery, timing belt, starter (if that matters)?

Also, how can I locate a wholesaler and perhaps sell to wholesaler myself?

    '01 Ram 1500 Laramie SLT
    2WD
    std cab, short bed
burgundy on tan cloth (both like new)
    5.2L V8 with auto
    alloys
    full power
    decent Michelins

Dealer is asking $16,500 here in Humid & Hotlanta. What do you think, wholesale & retail?

    Thank you.

I purchased a 2002 Forester S Premium (Red)a year ago and have 21k miles on it and live in NY near West Point. I am going to be selling it and was wondering what I could ask for the vehicle if I were to sell it privatly and what the trade in value would be. The car includes the following: It has had all schedule maintenance and is in mint condition.
Mud guards, fender flares, bumper molding, wheel locks, hood deflect or, brush guard, Differential protector, tail pipe cover, tow hitch, cold weather package, dimming rear view mirror and compass, sub woofer, tweeter kit, upgraded speakers, 6 cd changer and the gold extended warranty. If anyone can offer some insight I would appreciate it.

    Ooohhh...

I say fix it before you trade or try to sell it. This is a toughie. $3,800 and its' just some scratches, a cracked windsheild and the odd dent?

What be wrong with it? As it sits, even when it is fixed I would personally be $1K or so+ back of it due to (What I am assuming here) a lot of paintwork...etc.

Still, if it does need $3800 in work it wouldbe deducted more than that... Unless its' a $6K or so unit. Heck, even then.....

I'd like some more "graphic" info...

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Ghulet said it.

I need more info. Is it a Black on Black 4WD in Florida? Or a White 2WD?

Or is it a 2WD in Fargo, ND? Or a Black 4WD up there? I hope it isnt Kentucky Blue in Louisville either...

Also... TYPING IN CAPS IS SHOUTING.. WE HEAR YOU FINE WITHOUT TYPING IN CAPS! :)

    Hmm..

Color? How bad are scratches? WIll they buff out? If they will, spend the $100 or so and have it detailed.

Floor Shift, Moonroof and Leather, right? If not, we will be a-deductin...

If it was super clean, and had the right equipment and was mint, we have a $6,500 or so vehicle here. So how bad are the scratches? I'd guess and say $5,500-5,800ish without knowing more.

Sell to a wholesaler? Nah. Bad idea. If you just wanna sell it, ask $8,900/bo and grab $7,800+. OR... Grab the Want Ad Press/AutoTrader and see what dealers are selling Avalons like yours.. call em and see what they will pay for it...(They will want to see it so make sure its ultra-clean) People do like buying those cars...

Hey Buddy! Mr "I need a truck to go to Home Depot with on occasion so how much can I pick up a F350 Powerstroke Lariat Crew Cab Dually 4x4 with leather for?"

    :) tee hee...

OK, nice truck. I am guessing a bit here... I do not know what trucks sell for. I dont deal in em. I am a nitwit with them. I am semi-guessing. Terry please double-check this, please? Also.. geez man.. do I have to send YOU to your room? HOW MANY MILES???

Say it has like 20K.. I would think it is a $13K wholesale piece... So try em at $14K.. but $15K ought to get it done.

Still.. I dunno trucks. I dont drive em.. dont like em... ad nauseum.

Nice car.. you are in the right market for it. Miles are pretty stiff for an 02 tho.

Still, it is a Subaru and you are right next to New England. Tough call with the miles, I would peg it at $17K as a trade.

Figure out what you can BUYa new one like your for, and then I'd be $3K back of that for a retail figure. So, as itsits I would ask $20K (OK.. $19,950) and shoot to get in the low $19Ks.

If you are indeed trading it, do cancel that warranty, it won't add a dime to its wholesale value. On a private sale, if it can be transferred, DO advertise it! In fact, heck, advertise it for $20,950.

Hope this helps.. you might be better off calling a few Subaru dealers.. ask for the used car Mgr and see what they think its' worth.

Hope this helps.. sorry I cant be a bit more exact, but a 21K mile 02 can be a bit tough to hit.

Great help on the family G20- here is another one for a friend of mine- no job so he wants to get out of car payments and pick up a cheapo ride.

99 Altima, 43k miles, SE Model, Auto Tranny, Sunroof. Black Ext, Tan Cloth int. We are in the northern mid-west. Car is immaculate except we had a dozen hail dents and 3 remain on the roof (didn't want to remove the liner for them to fix)no other accidents/damage, they really are not noticeable and the buyer may actually not notice. New AquaTred 3's on it, female non-smoker driven. Looking for price to throw it in the paper and what will take it from a guy off the street? For poops and giggles, what is trade-in?

I have a 1998 Toyota Camry CE with 34,500 miles on it. It is only a 4 cylinder and is 5 speed manual transmission. It has some visual blemishes on the inside from the previous owners. They were smokers and didn't know how to keep their cigarette from hitting the door. It is maroon in color with grey interior. It has pw, pl, cruise, tilt steering wheel, am/fm cassett, air bags. What would this vehicle go for?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... Oooooh, nice low miles --- that's a big plus.

A good color combo --- that's another big plus.

Smokers .. no big deal, but even smokers hate burn holes and the ooze of the smell, no help here. And of course, it's a handshaker .. what can I say .. Ouch!

--- Can I get an easier question .....?

    Maybe, $7/$7,5 .....

    ..... A few Buckeye's here .. Huh ..?

A little Hail damage .. oooh, not good, but I will take your word that only 2/3 will show..

It's the right color for the area .. it has a slider, new sneakers and the miles are -- kinda ok. On the retail side .. $12,990 and you should see $12ish -- on the trade side .. $10ish.

I hope this will help out ...

    Terry.

I can't belive I forgot to include the mileage on that Ram <smacking self upside head with latest copy of "Nines" magazine>

Whew, ok, where was I...... the truck has (according to the Akins Ford website) 13,439 miles on it.

I'm gonna go drive it today or tomorrow. If I like it I may hit them with $14,500 otd and see what they say.

Just to complicate matters, Akins is offering '02 Supercab F-150's for $5000 off "bottom line MSRP" plus the current $2500 rebate or financing. I'm reading this as $7500 off a new F-150 and that seems a rather good deal. http://www.akinsford.com for those interested.

    Terry,

My sister wants to know how far she is burried. It is an '01 Altima SE Blk/Blk Leather, Auto, moonroof, 6 cd changer, ABS, Side bags and about 25k on the clock all options pretty much at the time. It is located in the windy city. She also has a crease in the right front bumper. Parking lot kiss with a pole.

    TIA

    Chris
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... What kind of pole ..?

    Telephone pole ..?

    Electric pole ..?

    North pole ..?

    Russian Pole ....? -- l..o..l....

Nice little ride, all the toys, slider, leather, side bags, the Xtra noise package .. right color, right city. Lets figure a Nick for the love tap ... miles will also be a pain in the pole -- in and around $12,5ish.

........ That's Mucho better, miles always help out ... l.o.l...

I buy a lot of these -- I use them to tow 5 yr old Jags around .. l..o..l...

I can't imagine that they have more than $14 in it, throw a little slop and glow at it and you could have $14,5.

Try your figure and see what happens .. I'm thinkin $15/$15,5 plus TTL will take it home.

See, that darn Bill is gettin' good at this stuff .. Next week -- Duellys ..l.o.l...

...... The miles will hinder this a little --

But you are in the "heartland" of Suby country .. 12k ones, are doing the deep $19's .. so, Bill might be a little shy on this one --

It will do $18 and change, only if it's NEW .. and only has the miles.

I'm looking to trade-in my 1999 explorer xlt. It has 78,000 miles. It is Gold color with tan leather intrior. Optional equipment includes front power seats, power moonroof, and CD player. It is in very clean condition. the Acura dealer I went to offered $10,400 in cash or $11,400 in trade allowance. I feel I should get about $1000 more. Am I on the right track?

My sister wrecked her 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee (V8, Limited, 4WD Patriot Blue) on the freeway a couple of weeks ago and has since had it repaired. Georgia Law now requires insurance companies to pay the insured "diminished value" for the accident, in addition to the actual cost of repair. She hit a Suburban from the rear, involving her front bumper, headlight assembly, right quarterpanel, and grill. Repair seems good, good paint job. Any thoughts, given that it's a nearly new vehicle and still looks new after the repair, as what the diminished value is?

What is correct trade in value for a 1999 Outback wagon; 5 speed; AM/FM/Cass/CD; Power Doors, Windows, Mirrors; Heated seats and Mirrors; Alloys; Trailer Hitch; Dark Blue; 18 oil changes in 72,000 miles; Not driven after new engine by Subaru (not my fault); Want to trade on 2002 Honda Odyssey. Body never wrecked or repaired.

$10,400 is awfully strong for that Truck assuming it is a 4x4. If it is a 2x4, It ought to be an overallowance.

It may be nice, but the digits on the odometer still add up to over 78,000 on a 99. That kills it. There's no shortage of used Explorers out there so high milers go begging.

I think this is a $9,500 unit on a TOTAL Push. I'd rather be closer to 8800/9K on it. for $12kish I can find em like yours with 50K on em...

Sorry.. but it looks to me like they are trying to earn your business.

    Hmmm..

I would spank it to the tune of $1,500. Masses of paintwork, plus the dreaded "unibody" yellow light on an 01? Sheesh.

Yeah, $1,500 oughta do it. Tell her to take the $1,500 and blow it in Vegas =D

Jeez. We have a hi-mile crowd tonite!

Ordinarially, if its super duper nice, no paintwork, and it isnt Yellow with Purple and Pink Leather..

This sounds like a $12K car. Uh Oh. Here comes bill with the Handshaker Whip!

Bang! $1K off for the stick I is afraid.

I think $11K real $$, or sell it privately and you should ask $13,900 and see $13K. In your case, against an odyssey, you'll most likely be shopping trade only. That being said, I wouldnt pay over sticker for an Odyssey. They can be had for Sticker without too much trouble/easily depending where you live.

Let us know how ya make out!
