Could you please tell me what the real trade-in value is for my Rav4L. It has 14,000 miles, leather, sunroof, silver, roof rack, hitch, rear bumper, single cd and tape, side step bars, fender flares, mud guards, rear spoiler, wind deflector, cargo liner, cargo net,2wd, basically every option except anti lock and 4wd. Still has factory warranty, no accidents, garaged. Thanks
Someone, Hold Me Back, please! It's not like I need to buy a car right now; just got the Mrs. a nice used Sienna... but, it costs nothing to look, right? [wrong!]
'98 Legacy L Wagon, silver, 2.2l engine, 70k miles, well equipped but nothing fancy. Got rear-ended to the tune of $2200 in paint work... 2nd owner, bought it at 9k miles from the dealer; all service done there, including timing belt etc. at 60k. It's AUTOMATIC, igitt! otherwise I'd be all over it. Haven't seen the car yet, but the lady sounded very straightforward on the phone, told me about the paintwork when asked, and she describedthe car was "very clean". Asking $9500, which strikes me as very reasonable. BTW, new hubby works for GM, so the 'import' has to go... This is GM country, folks... It's OK for the General to buy 30% of Fuji Heavy Industries [Subaru], but it's not okay for us to buy one of those cars... ya gotta love it... anyways...
And another one: Local used-car lot, fairly reasonable place that gets their cars from trade-ins at other dealerships mostly, has a '98 Outback Ltd. Leather black/black very clean, with all the goodies... Get this: 5spd, 89,700 miles. Asking $12,900. Carfaxed it: clean, in-serivce 9/97, has had two MI owners [salt...] It's not my color, and I'm not sure I'd want leather, and at that $$ level, I'd just spend my money on a new Legacy L for $20k, but I thought I'd ask... Hey, for $10 I'd think about it.
Okay guys, talk me out of these! Many thanks as always, -Mathias East Lansing, MI
.... Oh you little devil. So, you are on a buying spree .. Huh ?
The Suby is priced right .. probably would do close to $9 at the auction if it's nice, knee deep -- well, you know the drill, see if you can get it for $8,500 ...
The Outback, is stiff in miles .. and it has one of those funny things in it (that you love) called a 5 speed --- your gettin' good at this .. $10 or less.
... it gets worse.. '00 Legacy L, auto, in Columbus OH, 12k miles, in-service Nov '00 (!) dealer serviced... Are you ready for this? ... $14k "must sell, returning to home country"... That's a 5hour drive and well worth it at that... where do I send the check? -Mathias
Thanks for the number on the Altima I think she will be keeping it a while. I have no idea what kind of pole there is a 3" crease in the bumper. Hey this is a little off topic but I am moving 1200 mi soon and was wondering if you guys could recommend an auto transport company. Any Idea what I could expect to pay for transport of one car from Chi-Town to H-Town (Houston) thanks a lot.
I am looking for the trade-in value of my 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE. It currently has 18,600 miles and has been regularly maintained. The interior is spotless. The only problem with the exterior is 2 minor scratches on the driver's side door. The color is sterling mist with tinted windows. It includes the following: sunroof, rear spoiler, front and rear mud guards, leather interior, heated front seats, power seats, and a Bose stero with single CD. Basically it is loaded with everything Nissan offered at the time with the exception of Traction Control.
I am looking to trade up to the current model GLE. It has a few more standard features that I would like to have. I would just like to know what I might expect for trade-in on my car.
My Dad is awaiting his new CRV and has just decided to trade in a second car:
99 Accord LX Sedan Automatic 30K miles Heather Mist (Tannish/Siver) Rear bumper has been resprayed due to parking lot kiss. Rubber looks good. No dents, dings, or scratches. Interior looks like my folks hover above the seats while driving.
Terry, what effect does the new model year have on used car values? I'm looking at 2000 Yukon's for example, and wondering if in a few months when the 2003's are out, how much the 2000 pricing is going to drop. Should I wait, or is the drop insignificant?
I am trying to sell my "baby blue". It is a 2000 Subaru Legacy Sedan with Alloy wheels and remote keyless entry system. Oil changes are performed in Subaru dealership. Mileage is less than 12,000. I was wondering if you can advice me the real world trade in value and private party value.
Now I'm shopping for a 3-series for my wife (except she doesn't know it, of course
Came across this : 2000 323i stick, white, black leather(ette) with 102kmi (whoo-whee!) at a dealership asking $12. It was a drive-and-ship from Germany in August'99 and isn't outfitted with many other options (BTW, the dealership listed many goodies, including: "inside hood release", "ashtray and glovebox lights", "composite halogen headlights", whew ... too many to list!)
The price seems a bit low even taking in consideration the mileage. What should I watch out for in megamilers like this? Proof of monthly oilchanges?
Yes, they will depreciate.. but I dont see them crashing dramatically. 4WDs actually start to heat up come Fall time... So prices should be relatively stable and steadily depreciating...
Yeah, Bill, the CarFax on that 100kmi '00 323i says it's a clean one-owner who had picked it up from the factory in Germany. I wonder if they'll take less than $12,000
I sent Rebecca here... that no-sale blue Legacy Sedan is in Columbus, OH, it's auto and a sedan (buzz...) and therefore, I don't want... but is it really worth only $12k??? In-service date 11/00, 11,800 miles... maintenance records... no paint work... this puppy is almost new!!!
Just by coincidence, its twin is sitting here in the parking lot (a late night at the lab again), and I looked it over... these things are nice... if it were a wagon, i'd be all over it at $14k, fer sure.
Dash auto hauled my Vette from Detroit to North Florida for only $500. It got here in one piece, the only drawback was it got a great tour of the southeast while I waited. But that's the price you have to pay living here in L.A. right Terry.
It's an L, with a -AUTO- (sorry, missed that!) , with 12k -- if you say it's nice, cause' there is no klicks going on here .. in Ohio, the vehicle will do $13+ at the block, and NADA shows a $16 retail --- and she will have no problemo either way...
$15,9 in the Columbus paper ... let someone pull your toe nails out, til you say -- ok, ok, ok, $15 and it's yours.
...... The Porsche buyers are a funny breed .. this one, from what you saying is a baby doll -- and a "hard too find" with NO miles and the right color
I'm sure this is a "pre-sold" .. and I also have a feeling that the someone fell down and hit their head .. and "thought" it was a Turbo with the kit ...
I just saw a Large Yota dealer at the Statesville auction (that we both know) ... buy 6 LE Camry's with the pretty gold pack on it and V6 badging -- and they were 4 cyl's ... He He He ..
See what happens when you show up at 9:30 instead of 7:30am, and don't pop hoods and trunks ... l..o..l... Ya gotta luv it -----
Hover, I love that word .. but, I know what you mean. First thing I look at is the drivers seat, just to see what the tonnage is .. l.o.l. -- Silly, but it does make a difference ...
Right color, miles are low ... if the fascia "looks" new from the re-paint, I wouldn't worry. Thinkin' in and around the $12's on the trade side ...
...Thanks for the input on the Accord. The fascia looks good - the Honda body shop did a great job matching.
My folks are pretty fastidious about the car. Being of Portuguese lineage I always half expect my mom to find clear plastic covers for the interior of their cars!! LOL
Once again thanks.
Also, the 00 Lincoln LS8 I posted a couple of weeks ago is still sitting on the lot. When does something like that become a lot queen?
Of course, this is academic as Mrs Lance has verboten any car purchases until we buy a house...
'97 Accord EX wagon, maroon over gray cloth. 58k miles, no obvious paintwork that this amateur saw. It's been sitting on a Volvo lot down in Iowa City for going on 5 months now, with a big ol' $12,900 on the windshield. What say the oracles?
Now that I'm fully recovered from knee surgery, I'm starting up the search for a replacement for my '90 Volvo 740 again.
To be productive, we've been taking this time to figure out exactly what would best suit our needs. My wife suggested getting a station wagon to compliment the Explorer (which we need for towing). Me, since I will primarily be using it for commuting, am still keeping my options open.
With this in mind I've narrowed the possibilites to a few different wagon models (Audi A4 Avant, Volvo V70 and VW Passat).
I've currently got my eye on a few Audi's and wanted to get your opinion on the prices. Here'e the info. BTW, these are all at North Jersey dealerships (only #1 is at an Audi dealer)
Thanks, Peeter
1. 98 A4 2.8 Avant Quattro - 20,995 Black, 35k miles, Auto, leather, sunroof
2. 98 A4 2.8 Avant Quattro - 16,995 Black, 56k miles, Manual, leather, sunroof (claim to have all service records)
3. 99 A4 1.8 Avant Quattro - 20,495 Black, 26k miles, Auto, pleather, sunroof
ps as an off the wall, I also found a '99 Caddy Catera, leather, auto, sunroof, 26k miles for 17,995
...and that's exactly what I did. :-) A 'fair' price is all about perception. They feel they got a good deal, so they did. And, truth be told, it was $300 under TMV, which I printed out for her, so she's happy. And that's all that matters.
Dave, If you buy that wagon, I'll send you .... to the basement. $10-11 for a 5yr-old car, with an automatic no less??? Okay, so the miles are low. Academic or not, you oughta be ashamed of yourself.
I don't doubt that Bill is right as far as "market value" is concerned, but <$20k buys a brand-spanking new Legacy wagon with -0- miles.
When in doubt, I always do the mental exercise of looking 3 years into the future... what would you rather own, an 8yr-old Accord free and clear or a 3yr-old AWD Subaru that you owe $9k on? The difference in resale value would be close to that, and you would pay some money to maintain the older car, too.
I don't like buying new eithers, but at those numbers... Always happy to spend other people's money, I remain -Mathias
I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic, White, Automatic, Select Trac 4WD, 70k miles, Tires on back have at least 50% tread left, front tires have about 20% left, body in very good shape, one 1-1/2" long scratch on front fender which was touched up by dealer when bought ( I bought w/ 14k on truck in 98) and the rear fender flare is scratched from contact with parking garage column. Since the flare is plastic and I didn't have to worry about rust, I never fixed it. No dents or door dings on truck. I live in lower Hudson Valley NY. I'm thinking of trading or selling it because I was recently transferred and I now have a 115 mile round trip daily commute. Fifty bucks a week for gas for the Jeep can be tough to take.
What should I expect trade/private sale. I only owe about $3500 on loan. Also, are there any recommendations on a suitable replacement in the Honda/Toyota range for under $10k?
I know, I know, but I've always liked wagons, Accord wagons in particular, (mostly because I can't afford a new Passat) and 5 speed Accord wagons are damned tough to find. I love my '94 Accord 5 speed coupe, but it's a pain getting Lancer 2.0 (18 month old daughter) in and out of the back seat. Fortunately, this task usually falls to Mrs. Lance, as she doesn't really enjoy driving the Volvo. :-)
As far as what I'd rather own, well, I'd rather own a Passat or V70, but failing that, an eight year old Accord that I owe nothing on sounds appealing. :-)
Local used car mega dealer in south Jersey (Camden county) has a '98 A4Q 2.8, tip, fully loaded, 28K, listed for $19,900, just for comparison.
They tend to have a lot of Audis (they are a lease disposal operation per their ads), so they may have others. This one they happened to have in their newspaper ad.
They also have VWs, but I have never seen a Volvo listed.
If you are interested, might be worth the trip. Web site is www.autolenderscars.com
(I have looked but never bought from them, so I can't vouch personally for the service, but the cars look nice).
You have won the Edmunds *"Best Description"* award.
I think, you get an all you can eat dinner at Ponderosa -- But-- you will have to check with Edmunds for any or all details, Void in any state not affiliated, or where illegal and any contact sports are allowed .. see your local dealer for any details. ... l.o.l...
You have a few lumps and bumps, stiff in miles, but it's a 4WD and a good color .. the tires need some new friends -- But, all in all not so bad, and it should sell well in that area.
Looks like you are driving a vehicle that will do in and around $6/$6,5 at trade time.
If you decide to go down to Retail Rd., slap some tires on her (no Pirelli's or Michs) .. Sears will do for $200, make it look 00 and in the paper it goes for -- $8950. Then let some nice Bird watcher have it for $7,9/$8,500 ...
---- 5 months ...? As in BC ..? Before Christmas ..?
Wow .. which is Mom upside down.
Let's say, he's flippin buried in it, at $10 and some change -- I'm with Bill, $11 .. maybe $11 and some change, if it's a "I can't live without" deal.
Is there any Christmas wrapping paper in the back of it ...? l..o..l..
No wrapping paper, but I must say it really does look like an '01 trapped in a '97s body. Whoever the first owner was REALLY took care of it. Parked next to it was a '99 S70 5 speed...oh, cruel fates, why do you taunt me thusly?
according to edmund's (i checked a while ago) the accord EX had auto trans standard. if it really has a 5spd, they should let it go for $10, no? if stick, buy with my blessing ;-) -mathias
Comments
It has no miles .. and all the options, plus it's a big seller color. Thanks, for a great description ..
On trade side, you should be in and around the ultra high $12's, the only thing that holds it back is the 2WD.

If it is super clean, no paintwork, and not a 5-speed, it is worth about $12,000 or so IMO.
So retail? Ask $14,900 and you should see $14K I think...
Terry?
Bill
Yep, $12ish .. depending on the area for Rebecca.

On to that 944.. Even if it was a Turbo.. I still can'tr see $13K. I mean.. Jeez!

Me Oracle sayeth $9,500ish at the block, maybe a tinge more if it looks like an 00 with 5K miles.
So Retail? $12,900 isnt outrageous.. But $10K oughta buy it by now.. Maybe $11K.
The Camry?
$14Ks to maybe $15K across the block.. So I am sure they are asking $17,900.
What are they asking? The Cert costs em about a nickel.
