Bill or Terry...I just picked up a 2001 Mustang GT, loaded, with 2630 miles from a dealer. Car is in TOP condition, but there is a slight problem....on the digital odometer, the tens digit (as in the "3") may be partially burned out/defective. It is my understanding from a previous thread that ANY work on the odometer must be reported on the VIN? What if a Ford dealer simply fixes it, and leaves the mileage the same? If the fix must be reported, will it hurt my resale value, private party or trade? Thanks!
Can you give me trade in and private sale values for a 1995 Nissan Quest GXE with two tone paint (dark blue w/gray on bottom) towing package and 4 captain chairs (w/power driver seat). Has some minor dings and carpet stains otherwise in good shape. It did have around $500 of body work done on tailgate - dent repair and repaint from a minor driveway incident. It has 90k miles and is in NJ. (We may trade it in on a new Honda Pilot, depends on what value they give us on the trade.)
are only "displays" for the odometer reading, which is stored in a separate computer. You should be able to replace the readout without affecting the mileage.

Gentlemen, I'm the original owner of a 95 VW Jetta III Celebration Ed. Sedan. Its a burgandy 4dr, 5 spd. w/ AC, cruise, power moonroof, Cd changer, alarm. Its in very good running condition (recent tuneup,oil change,brakes,etc.) and have all service records for its 134K miles. Never raced, adult driven. The dark interior is clean w/ no marks, never smoked in. I do have a couple of rust spots. One under the trunk about 4" long and another 2" spot on the driver's side door pillar. Its not too bad for 6 VT winters, but I hate putting more $ in it just to fix those spots. Any ideas on a price and/or advice on what to say about the rust spots? Thanks in advance. Judy
I found a 99 528ia that just got turned in off lease at a dealer that they are going to CPO. Auto/premium pkg 33k on it with 1 small gouge the size of a quarter on the rear bumper. It's a good color and no miles and depending on where you live, you are lookin' in and around $32/$33 on a trade .. IF it still looks and is puuuurrrfect.
So, if you decide to go down Retail Rd... a good price to start at would be $36,900 and let some nice elderly lady take it home for $36.
On a trade, I think you are lookin' around $2,5ish. This is definatly a vehicle for Retail Rd.
I would slap this little doll in the largest paper in the area, detail out and have all the papers ready from day 1, and start it up for $4,900 and let the Good Humor man take it for $4/$4,5 ... summer is here and this will sell fast.

A person with excellent credit, can purchase a vehicle for thousands over loan .. and of course, that pendulum can swing the other way with someone with average or less credit ability .. it also depends on the lender, some will loan more than others.
The trade value, is a amount that a vehicle might receive, this all depends on the year, miles, condition, options and color of the vehicle.
The retail figure is a number that can be used as a "asking" figure at sale time .. the word being here is "asking" .. this again is based on the miles, condition, etc. Most folks feel their particular vehicle may be worth more than that ... l..o..l...

In Vermont, this vehicle might fetch $1,5/$2,0 on a trade and on the retail side .. maybe $3,0 or so. The miles are waaay stiff and it's a handshaker.. it's not worth the expense to have it fixed, unless you can have it done for a couple of hundred or less.

Thanks for the input yesterday. After work we swung by the local GM store...been there twice before and nothing. Lo and behold, a forest green '99 Prizm with 38k and an asking price of $7995...nothing fancy, but it's an auto with A/C and a tape deck with no signs of damage evident to my amateur eye. It's "certified," but I don't know if that's a dealer thing or a GM thing. I had to leave; Bryan and coworker #1 stayed behind to hash out a price. I haven't spoken to her today, but I drove by this morning and there was a "Sold" sign in the window. :-) She may have to go 5 years on the loan, but with all the other stuff she's dealing with (huge medical issues) monthly buget's more important than total cost right now. To me, Hell would be five or more years in a Prizm, but it's perfect for her. I'll let you know the details when I know them. I'm trying to finagle a business trip to our Melbourne office, and if I can, I'll pay you the beer credits I owe you. Thanks, man.

One of my cousins just bought a 02 Prisim instead of a Corolla. With the rebate, GM employee discount, gm mc card points, no adv fee they paid 10k out the door ! They don't care if this is the last year for them cuz they keep em' till the wheelz fall off anyway ! They also have 2 troublefree caviliers with 110k and 60k at their house too. Their 96 Camry just popped the belt at 60k and bent the valves ! To the scrapyard it goes ! ........geo
Like I said, it's not to my taste, (or hers, particularly) and I could find many, many far more interesting cars at or even below her price point (she was particularly enamoured of the Mazda 929, Nissan 240SX and, of all things, the Volvo 240. We looked at a lot of cars.) I could not, however, find a more practical, cheap to maintain, or functional (for her needs) car than the Prizm. Toyota reliability with Chevy resale...it's the used buy of the century, really, besides Saabs and Mazda Millenias.
My experience with Camries and Cavaliers exactly cancels yours out- My mom & dad bought an '88 Camry new when I was 13. Both I and my younger sister learned to drive on it (five speed, no less) and it lasted 212,000 miles before New England road salt finally claimed it two years ago- it was replaced with an Accord after they drove mine and liked it. The Cavalier, OTOH, was a complete pile before 100,000 miles and I was glad to be rid of it (I didn't choose it; my wife brought it with her.)
Oddly, used Prizms are extremely tough to come by in this area (Cedar Rapids, IA) for some reason. As I mentioned before, we stumbled upon this one at a GM lot we'd been to twice previously. The few we saw around before that were either mega-milers, poorly maintained, five speeds, or a combo thereof.
On a completely unrelated note, we also ran across a 240,000 mile '96 Altima. That says something, but I'm not sure what, exactly.
Sounds like a deal! $8K basically? Hope they got it for cheaper but still.. thats not a bad price. And, like I said, that car is THE deal of the moment on cheap wheels.

Owners manual said something like 80k on that Camry. The 90 Cav. had the 2.5 Iron duke driven by gears off crank ! The 96 Cav. is a 2.4? with belt. And you know they took it down ASAP and had that belt changed..LOL !!!! But still 10k OTD on a new Prizim, New Corolla was 5k more with LESS options ! Not to mention Toys dealer attitudes ! ..geo

We are getting ready to trade our 99 Infiniti Q45T. It has 27k, it is pearl and tan, cold pack, trac ctrl, Bose, every option in 99. All the Maintenance has been done by Infiniti, there is one little ding about the size of a bottle top, that's it. The interior looks new, non smoker and we have it cleaned and waxed at least 3 times a year, garage stored when not being driven. We hate to give it up, but we need a small van type, what's your thinking before we drive ourselves crazy. Thank you. Bob.

If it looks as good as it smells, you should be in and around that $12's figure.

I just based that on the last 30/40, I have seen run between San Fran and Vegas ...
The Seattle market could be a little different, but that seems to be the numbers on the rest of the planet ... l..o..l.....
02 330i's with about the same mileage are doing around $36+ at the block ... there is about a $4 grand swing between the 325's and 330's ...
I'm sure at $32, It will sell fast ...
