If the fix must be reported, will it hurt my resale value, private party or trade? Thanks!
(We may trade it in on a new Honda Pilot, depends on what value they give us on the trade.)
Thanks for the help!
I'm not well versed on the Mustang, but your service advisor should be able to confirm that for you.

I'm relocating soon to LA from the East Coast and wanting to know the trade in value on my 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 4dr sedan. This is an ES V6 model (Silver finish) with only 8,000 miles! Standard features: air con, CD player, cloth seats, wood trim. And yes, the new car smell is still there!
Thanks,
Steve
So let's see here, we have a V6, lot's of help there. And of course, no miles going on along with ..and a good color.
If it looks as good as it smells, you should be in and around that $12's figure.
Terry.
If it's nice and clean .. and doesn't need much, you will be in and around that $6 figure on a trade. On the retail side, try $8,900 when it's all cleaned up and lookin' 00 -- and take $7,5/$8,500 home with you ...
Terry.
The miles are a little stiff on this one .. but you should see around $22/$23 on a trade, depending on where you live ...
Terry.
Terry.
You have bunches of miles, it's been painted here and there .. sounds like it needs a little work. So, start thinkin' $3,5/$4,000.
Terry.
The one and only inquiry on the car, including local ads placed. Amazing

Bught car new in Oct 1991
1992 Camaro RS V-8 5.0 liter
Bright Red with Black racing stripes
25th Anniversity Model
Automatic
PW
PDL
PB
PS
T-tops
Bucket seats
New tires
Mechanically = excellent condition
Mileage just reached 100,000 miles
Interior is in excellent shape.
Exterior is great. Still have original wheels that came on the car.
I would rate this car between clean and excellent.
Please give the price a dealer would give me and also the other values and a good/fair price for this vehicle.
Please explain the difference between the loan value, trade-in value and the retail value.
Thanks. Have a great day.

It's a good color and no miles and depending on where you live, you are lookin' in and around $32/$33 on a trade .. IF it still looks and is puuuurrrfect.
So, if you decide to go down Retail Rd... a good price to start at would be $36,900 and let some nice elderly lady take it home for $36.
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
I guess you have taken excellent care of it ..
On a trade, I think you are lookin' around $2,5ish. This is definatly a vehicle for Retail Rd.
I would slap this little doll in the largest paper in the area, detail out and have all the papers ready from day 1, and start it up for $4,900 and let the Good Humor man take it for $4/$4,5 ... summer is here and this will sell fast.
Loan value, is a figure that a lender "may" loan on a vehicle, depending on the year and miles. In your case, your vehicle has a few too many years and miles. As a rule, loan value isn't really accurate in todays market. A person with excellent credit, can purchase a vehicle for thousands over loan .. and of course, that pendulum can swing the other way with someone with average or less credit ability .. it also depends on the lender, some will loan more than others.
The trade value, is a amount that a vehicle might receive, this all depends on the year, miles, condition, options and color of the vehicle.
The retail figure is a number that can be used as a "asking" figure at sale time .. the word being here is "asking" .. this again is based on the miles, condition, etc. Most folks feel their particular vehicle may be worth more than that ... l..o..l...
Maybe this helps ...
Terry.
This sounds like it may need a little work .. but is it worth it? I might think .. No.
In Vermont, this vehicle might fetch $1,5/$2,0 on a trade and on the retail side .. maybe $3,0 or so. The miles are waaay stiff and it's a handshaker.. it's not worth the expense to have it fixed, unless you can have it done for a couple of hundred or less.
Good luck ...
Terry.
So what's on the agenda for a new vehicle ..?
Terry.
I'll be selling it in the Seattle area and will be asking for less than 32K if anyone is interested.
-nobee
i picked up a extremely well-preserved 94 taurus sho from a fine fellow in attleboro, MA. A HANDSHAKER!, for 4200. I like this car. love the seats...a great highway cruiser...and a ton of fun for a third cost of the maxima. (still looking for an older awd eclipse/talon)
Thanks for your help and God bless.
Maybe they appreciate? What did it sticker for new, if I could be so bold?
Heck, maybe I could make some extra $$$ by buying European Delivery BMW's, driving them a few Kklicks and then selling them for more than I paid for the whole thing 8^)
TB
I bought mine through the military/diplomatic sales program in Germany. Out the door price was $30,040. Asking for the same. Interested? ;-)
-nobee
I just based that on the last 30/40, I have seen run between San Fran and Vegas ...
The Seattle market could be a little different, but that seems to be the numbers on the rest of the planet ... l..o..l.....
02 330i's with about the same mileage are doing around $36+ at the block ... there is about a $4 grand swing between the 325's and 330's ...
I'm sure at $32, It will sell fast ...
Good luck.
Terry.
Thanks,

Few rust spots.. 134K.. I am thinking this to be a $2,500 car on a total stretch as a trade.. really in the $2K range IMO. I'd ask $4,500 and I bet ya get $3,500-4K
Bill
If this is just PERFECT, I mean it looks like a 30K mile 99.. it could do mid-upper $2Ks on trade.
Sounds like this is your "baby" tho. So retail it. I think you can be greedy here... I think you can ask $5,500 and I think you can get $$4,500 for it.
Bill
Loan: Allegedly what a bank will loan on the vehicle.
Trade-In: Allegedly what a vehicle's wholesale value is. This is a "smoking crack rocks so big you need to use with PVC pipe" number generally.. I.E. if I were to sell at least 2 or 3 cars in Inventory at that number I'd make $4-5K on them
Retail: What it should retail for. Sometimes close, sometimes not. See above...
Obviously I dont use NADA book to do business with!
Bill
CPO costs them about $875, plus $300 or so for the inspection/detail.. plus figure another $500 in recon. The prolly paid about $26,500-27K for it, which is what I have been paying for cars like that.
You could start em at $29K.. but I have been getting $32K easily for 528s like that...
Bill
Bill
Hey, who cares what the books say? I am with Terry. I have been buying a LOT of late-model BMWs lately and I can tell ya that a nice under 10K mile 02 325i is a $32K car at the auction.
Does this mean new is a better buy? Maybe. but the market be doing what it be doing..
Bill
That is, if I don't fall for the IS300 instead.
It's a great time to be a car enthusiast again.

TB, looks like you're going to have a devil of a time in '04! I have to say the 'ring is one of the biggest benefits of living over here in deutschland. You probably know this already but if you're worried about your new ride, you can always rent one of their "taxis"--a white alpine M5!

Prisim instead of a Corolla. With
the rebate, GM employee discount,
gm mc card points, no adv fee they
paid 10k out the door ! They don't
care if this is the last year for
them cuz they keep em' till the wheelz
fall off anyway ! They also have 2
troublefree caviliers with 110k and 60k
at their house too. Their 96 Camry
just popped the belt at 60k and bent
the valves ! To the scrapyard it goes !
........geo
My experience with Camries and Cavaliers exactly cancels yours out- My mom & dad bought an '88 Camry new when I was 13. Both I and my younger sister learned to drive on it (five speed, no less) and it lasted 212,000 miles before New England road salt finally claimed it two years ago- it was replaced with an Accord after they drove mine and liked it. The Cavalier, OTOH, was a complete pile before 100,000 miles and I was glad to be rid of it (I didn't choose it; my wife brought it with her.)
Oddly, used Prizms are extremely tough to come by in this area (Cedar Rapids, IA) for some reason. As I mentioned before, we stumbled upon this one at a GM lot we'd been to twice previously. The few we saw around before that were either mega-milers, poorly maintained, five speeds, or a combo thereof.
On a completely unrelated note, we also ran across a 240,000 mile '96 Altima. That says something, but I'm not sure what, exactly.
George.. Yeah of course the timing belt broke, it was SIX YEARS OLD!
Bill
What about this one, it's a 99 also. It's a LSI, 30k, auto, sunroof, "side airbags", cd, keyless, alloys and all the power stuff. It looks like a new one, grey metallic and light grey interior.
Sister is trading it in on a S60, what say you?
Again, thank you in advance.
Since you love eBay.. now yuou got me looking....
Damn you I dont need this but I MUST HAVE IT.. arrgh!

80k on that Camry. The 90 Cav. had
the 2.5 Iron duke driven by gears off crank !
The 96 Cav. is a 2.4? with belt. And you
know they took it down ASAP and had
that belt changed..LOL !!!!
But still 10k OTD on a new Prizim, New
Corolla was 5k more with LESS options !
Not to mention Toys dealer attitudes !
..geo
BTW: Did I mention my son has a 95 CAV.
and ain't killed it yet either !
That's a nice Mercedes wagon, but you know me...all about those oddball Swedish cars.

All the Maintenance has been done by Infiniti, there is one little ding about the size of a bottle top, that's it.
The interior looks new, non smoker and we have it cleaned and waxed at least 3 times a year, garage stored when not being driven.
We hate to give it up, but we need a small van type, what's your thinking before we drive ourselves crazy.
Thank you.
Bob.
