Thanx, JiGG.....
Well, I finally drove it to work to see if I'd like it, and frankly, I was a bit cramped in the shoulder area.
So I sent out an e-mail to the office saying the first with $3K can take this cream puff home.
Had three people who were interested, but only one brought any cash.
I sold it for her for $2750.
How did I do? I know the buyer and the seller was happy. Should they be?
TB
I'd say ya ripped her head off as they say!
IOW, you got REAL strong $$ for it.
Bill
Thanks Bill.
TB
Any more and the deduct-o-matic whip comes out.
Now, Jags? 8-10K.
Bill
Uhh... OK, is it an 01? An 02? Model? Color? Location? What is your payoff? SE? SES? SEL? etc?
I think we gotta send ya to your room.
Bill
I looked in Autotrader and saw lots of them in the $30-35k range with 30-50k on them. I'm not willing to do that. If that's the case, I'll get a 98 328i and save myself $10k-15k.
You sure you're not reading 183K?
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
If not the Sunfire, my friend is interested in a Kia Sportage--or, specifically, what kind of Sportage she'd be able to get for roughly $8K. Any thoughts? While they're popular, they are Kias...
Thanks for any input--much appreciated!
Kelly
This is like trying to find your ball at the 7th hole at the Canadian Open ...
what's next ...?
Terry.
With this Edmunds thing changing formats, I might have miss read it ...
$25,900 with 35k on it ..? --- I don't think so. $21,900 with 35k on it, yes. He can't have more than $18/$19 in it -- We can put that Ad over at the "Dream On" prices section . l..o..l...
I'm a brave Hiawatha, but I would never be brave enough to put out an Ad anywhere, unless I knew I could move it .. Fast! This guy will have this unit til 04 at that price.
Keep in mind ... anyone can ask anything they want, for anything. That's why my neighbor has been trying to sell his boat for 10 wks now, and can't get a nibble -- and doesn't understand why.
But anyway .. between you, me and the floor .. I would be lookin' for a nice, clean 01 Maxima GLE or SE, same vehicle, less hassle, better re-sale value in the long run. You should be able to find a low mileage one, loaded up for around $21 ...
Good luck ... and let us know.
Terry.
Terry.
Thanks on the advice. I like the way the I30's looks better than the Maximas, but they are essentially the same car. So, whatever model I can get a better deal on, we'll go with that. We have an Inf dealer in town, and have yet to stop by and see their stock, but at this point, the Nissan dealers have very few Max's on the lots... What type of discount/incentives do you look for on the '02s as we move closer to the '03s being released.
Thanks,
Brent
97s with miles in the 50s are doing like $19-20Kish at the sales now...
98s? More. 40-45K miles are in the $22-23,500 range.
Bill
Maybe charming wit?
But it is STILL an ELEVEN YEAR OLD GRAND AM!
These are typically like.. worth less than a half-way decent Seiko!
Bill
Bill
Although, start em out at $5K
Bill
Sunfire? You can do better!
Get a Geo Prizm.
Bill
Terry is indeed a Brave Hiawatha.. but... Neither of us would ask that for the car. I'd expect to buy it for $18,500 and sell it for about $21K or so.
Bill
Jag sale yesterday was a joke...
$1,500 out of Xtra Clean for a Black/Black 2000 XK8 coupe? What the heck? 30K mileer did $43,800. The 33K mile Sapphire Blue ragtop behind it did $43,500
Guess which one I was on? LOL
Bill
I know Autotrader has 'wishing' prices, but they're really out there.
Lessee...
97 coupe with 42k for $31,990,
98 sedan with 32k for $36,900
98 sedan with 20k for $35,500
And my personal favorite, a 98 coupe with 8k miles for $42,900! I think that's more than it sold for new!
The list goes on and on...
Shoot, maybe I should be selling used M3s!
Bill
Jim
Lot's of miles on this one.
Is this a 1/2 ton ..? -- 3/4 ton ..?
Color ..?
Slider ..?
North or South FL ....?
Need a little more info on this EXCELLENT vehicle.
Terry.
You where on the Sportage .. right ...? l..o..l..
Terry.
Terry.
Get this, rumor is SADE is going to make ALL Kias run red light, period.. LOL.
Man prices were high yesterday... Land-Rover sale? The first one they had at Central FL?
100%. No kidding. 100%. And Jag was around 90%!
Whew! I am telling ya.. I buy a lot of those Jags, and prices are stronger now than ever. Freaking 98 XJ8s are doing the same $$ they did LAST SUMMER!
=O
Bill
99 Corolla LE's for $9, 98 Civics LX's for $10, Tundra's out of the book, Vette's out of the book, 3's out of the book -- We don't need no stinken' Black Book .. just a check book. l..o..l...
Terry :-)
Drove this car last night in the pouring rain and loved it. Drove a '99 S70 GLT later and felt great except for spinning the tires on an uphill grade.
Didn't get much into price with either because I want to try a few more cars before sitting down to haggle. So far, the Audi is the front runner.
Here's the info
99 A4 Avant 1.8T Quattro
Black w/ black leatherette (dealer says its leather)
27400 miles
Auto
sunroof
clean except for a scraped passenger side rim, but it was raining so I didn't get a good look.
good rubber
am/fm cassette (concert series)
heated seats
$20,495 (internet price)
Dealer said it was traded in by an elderly gentelman who bought a Matrix. Was a lease (I asked about this in another thread because it had a commercial reg). They've had it over 2 months (carfax showed 3/27/02 as title transfer). The salesman said the above internet price was a "rock-bottom" price, but a TMV shows it right at dealer price.
What do you think they're rock bottom price really is?
Thanks,
Peeter
Most people don't spend the time to get the real "feel, touch and smell" of the next vehicle.. and driving it around the block, just doesn't make it. I tell all my customers, drive it for an Hr or so and see what you think ... what a difference that makes.
You are lookin' at 2 great vehicles ... so we will see what happens.
Can't say about the commercial part, it's usually a lease through their own co., I wouldn't worry about if it checks out A1.
It's a 99, black on black .. you must be a Yankee boy.. l..o..l. The miles are right for the year, it has the right options -- They probably have "around" $18+ in it, so the $20ish figure is about right -- Wow, Edmunds hit one right ..? l..o..l...
But, to your advantage the vehicle has been sittin' for a little while. Check it out in the daylight, I feel somewhere between $19,7 and $20 should bring you two together.
Hey, let us know ...
Terry.
Yes, we're in NJ and as "luck" would have it it started pouring just as we got to the dealer. As we live in a hilly area it really gave us a good idea how the cars would drive in bad weather.
19,7 still puts it above our max point, but who knows how badly they want to get rid of it. Ideally I'd like to see 18,5 since the TMV trade in showed 16,7. I did tell them I was pre-qualified for a loan and would be trying to sell my 1990 Volvo 740 myself, but would entertain offers on both from them as well.
I'm going to look at some '99 A4 sedans this weekend or early next week that are priced at 18,5 to 19,5 so maybe I won't end up with the wagon.
Peeter
So, no slider ..? and a 2WD 1/2 ton.
Ok, lot's a miles going on here .. a UCF neighbor and not far from Bill. You have the right color and if you are knee deep in rubber, interior has not seen D-Day (D stands for Dog) and it still can be "eye balled" as a new one, if not start deducting. ... then you should be in and around that $23ish figure.
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
I have a 2001 Solar Yellow XTERRA SE, 4WD, 5spd, 19300 miles, bought in Dec'00. Except for three small paint chips on the hood, the exterior is spotless. The interior looks new (seat covers, floor and cargo mats since day one), except for a few small scratches on hard plastic parts that aren't too visible.
I'm in Northern California.
I read on Edmunds that in some states, the trade-in value can offset the new car price (is that true in California?).
I'll be replacing the truck with a Honda S2000, and expect to pay MSRP for the car. Would a typical Honda dealer want the XTERRA for trade?
Thanks.
Mellow yellow ..huh. ..? I don't know why, but this color is popular.
Ok, we have a 4x4 SE that's a V6, it's a handshaker - no help there, and we have some miles going on here.
Sounds like you have taken care of it .. (thank you for a great description) .. you are going to be in and around that low $20 figure on a trade, if it's as clean as you say it is ...
Terry.

Thanks for your advise.
PS: Still thinking about trading/selling my Infiniti I-30. I'll let you know results.
Jim J.
Black/blk with all options execept keyless go and 5K miles.
What's fair $ for trade-in and fair $ on retail?
TIA.
Gheeeez, what no Cavaliers or Hyundai's in your stable ..? l..o..l....
I'm gonna guess on this one .. I gotta think $95/$98 on a trade ... maybe a little more or less. It's the right color for the area and it has no miles -- and of course, you know these puppy's have to be puuuurrrfect inside and out ...
Soooo, on the retail side .. hmmmmm, I gotta think around $119, I know I have seen then in Dupont and the WSJ for $125, but they have also been in there for a while -- That's my guess, but I do have a friend that is a Dealer for them, so I will see what the "real deal" is.
Bill, what's your thinkin ...?
Terry.
Auto, color, *condition*, smoker, tires etc. ...?
It's got lot's of miles... so we need lot's of info .. got it ..? Get it ..!
Terry ;-)
Still got an 02 Benz on yer mind, eh?
The S55 is worth $95K. All day long assuming it IS Loaded out aside from Keyless Go (Which has not caught on with buyers here..)
Retail? $105-110K oughta be the ##.
The Arnage First, get an 01 or newer Red Label with the real engine! lol...
These are so damn tough to call. I see a few here in Orlando at the sales and they are just all over the place. 99s are the least desireable, THAT I do know all too well. See, the thing is, the sucker could get bid to $85K and not surprise me, and it could break $100K and not surprise me. Nothing more amsuing/scary to see than guys who have no idea of the value of an item bidding on a 3yr old Bentley.. LOL.
I'd say Terry is close but he likes it better than I do... I feel it is around ther $90K to MAYBE $95K on a push-from-hell. Retail? $110K.
The BMW-Engined cars have gotten VERY stiff over the past 18 months. When the Red Label came out, the Green Lable cars went from 100% to less than 10% of production.

So, this should at least give you an idea. ..
Bill is on this one , The Double Nickel Benz is worth $95+, my Golf partner bought one last week out of West Palm for $97 with 4k and he retailed it for $112 .. so, this will at least give you a good idea of what to do with these two junkers ... l..o..l....
You have my interest, so let us know what happens.
Terry.
Let's assume you live north of the Mason/Dixon line .. you should be in and around that $14 figure, miles are the killer here.
Terry.
