..... This sounds like a nice one, no miles and all the right stuff ...

NADA gives a fair "asking price" on the retail end of their books .. but, their trade info as a rule, isn't even close to reality.

What kills you here .. is the handshaker, they hurt a lot of vehicles, drop it in a Wagon and they get cold .. real cold. At $17 they are being fair .. real fair. The miles are a BIG add, the handshaker is a BIG deduct .. they wipe each other out. --- I think you have a dealer that's working hard for your business, take the tax break on the trade (if it's in your area) .. and take the deal.

..... Gheeez, this things sell better now, than when they were new .. l.o.l...

Miles are low for the year, but no power stuff. -- These old Previa's had some problems with over heating and transmissions, but if all is well, looks clean, knee deep, runs like a top, air will keep it nice and cool and needs -0- .. then on a trade, in and around $3,5ish . On the retail side, an easy $5,9 in the paper .. let someone duct tape you, till you can't breath and make you scream $4,9/$5,5.

Black/tan. Limited, V10, 25K miles, 4WD. Washed weekly, looks good. And will I be better off waiting for cooler weather. No longer need the big tow vehicle, looking for something a lot more fuel efficient.

    Hi Terry,
Could you give me your opinion about post #7647? ('02 Camry?)
    Thanks.
  • dhoffdhoff Member Posts: 282
..on the 626. I'm picking it up after work Monday. If I can get it to last a couple of years without major work, it will be worth it. Then I can get that new Maxima I've always wanted...

    Thanks.

Well, I looked at the 1998 Golf, and they seemed to be pretty firm at $10k. But it looked like it had about 70K miles from its condition rather than 37k miles, so I will continue looking for now. I did see a Jetta that looked interesting, but it has a "contact us" on the web site. Here are the specifics:
1999 Jetta GLS, new body style, Black, 5 spd, 40,500 miles, 2.0l 4 cyl engine, full power but no moonroof, no alloys or no leather. What do you think?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Ok .. no toys, no leather and it's a handshaker - and we have 40k ... what no free hot dogs ..?

Not much going on this one .. dealer might have $11 in it, should be bought for $12,0 and a little change.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Well, it's the new body style, it's a V6 .. miles are fine, except for the "kiss" on the front.

You should be in and around the $18's ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... This is one "fat daddy" vehicle ..

Right color for the area .. and it's a Limited. I'm sure it's got all the stuff.. miles are fine. You "might" be thinkin' right, on the early fall deal. Right now, it's worth in and around $24ish .. and 4WD's are a little weak cause' of the summer, not cause' their bad.

I buy alot of 4WD's .. as an example, 99 ultra clean, ultra nice, AWD, V8, 29k Mountaineers were doing around the $15's 4wks ago, now they are doing less than the $13's. .. so, see what kind of deal you can work out. Excursions are a little different, larger more towing, etc. But, if you can see that $23/$24 figure you are fine.

    Good luck ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Right now, those little Mazda's are hotter than the 101st Airborne in a fire fight ...

They are doing the strong $13's+ at the block .. $12 is a steal, and $11 .. is GTA, and 3 to 5 in the Joint ... l.o.l....

    Forget all that $3,000 stereo stuff . . it's worth $300 now.

Good luck .. and let us know.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ...... Yeppers, 2 grand ...?

Can't get much for 2 grand anymore .. it may need a little this and that, but these are reliable vehicles.

The way I would look at is .. I spend $2/$300 on it in the next 24/36 months or so (if needed), and you can still sell it for $2,200 .. folks will still be lookin' for good transportation then ...

    Auto ...?

    Stick ....?

...... It's a handshaker, so no help there .. the miles are a little stiff for the year, no help there .. . . l.o.l... it's the right color no matter where you live, you are going to be around the mid $12's at the block, needs tires, etc.

It might see $14 on the retail side.. these aren't burning down any bridges.

Doesn't sound like a deal too me ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... #1 has like no miles .. so obviously, you pay for it, probably in and around the high $18's, low $19's. #2 has waaay to many miles for the year .. high $16's, low $17's ..

    Good luck ...

Did you guys forget about me and my 2 Honda Civic Si's?

In case you did. I'm looking at a 2000 Civic SI with 29,000 miles. 5-speed, sunroof, CD, power pack. It's the "electric blue pearl". Needs tires, it has aftermarket headlights, aftermarket intake, and it has been lowered. The interior is in great shape although there is a little cig. smoke lingering.

The other questions is on the 2000 SI that I currently have (it's black with 39,000 miles and the same options but NO aftermarket equipment and it's riding on new Michelins) what's should I price it at to move it quick? And is the newspaper or Autotrader better?

    Both cars are in Atlanta.

One other question (sorry) Would a Honda dealer be interested in buying my black 2000? Could I take it to their used car manager and get an offer on it or would they lowball me and/or refuse to do it in the first place?

    Hi Terry -

If you get a chance, could you let me know what you think about post 7637? I forgot to mention it's an automatic. I'm planning on trading it in tomorrow, and I'm not sure what is reasonable...

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info on the Zuki. The A/C quit on Friday so I spent the weekend trying to decide on size and style. Walked out after a $1,500 trade offer on Saturday.(even though I wasn't insulted just needed time to think). Decided on staying small and picked up a new liberty at around invoice with a $2,300 dollar trade and came home happy. Thanks again..

I'm going to either trade or sell a one-owner, 110K mile '94 Mitsu Galant ES with auto trans. The black exterior is in good condition other than paint fade on the roof. The interior is clean. It runs great but has a slow oil leak and blows smoke after long idles (rings or valves?). Timing belt and water pump replaced recently. Tires have lots of tread. I have maintenance records. What is this beauty worth?
  • conroeconroe Member Posts: 13
31,200 miles. Automatic. Dark blue with black leather interior. Extras: premium sound with 6 CD changer (trunk mounted), sports package, trip computer. However, no moon roof.

It's pretty clean, with a small dent and scrape on the bumper, a few very minor scratches, but no other damage. No mechanical problems ever. No leaks. Everything works well.

I'd really appreciate your input on what you think would be a fair trade-in value. Thanks very much.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... A Texas boy .. huh ..? The miles are real nice and low for this one. No slider in Houston, shame on you ... l.o.l...

It has leather, sport pack and it's a Quattro, most important, a 2.8 Quattro. .. it sounds like a nice one, the only thing that may hold it back in the big H is, the color and roof .. you should be in and around the low $19's.

    I hope this helps ...

... A smoker .. huh..? Sounds like rings to me, but a Tech needs to "last call" that one.

110k .. and black, depending on where you live, you should be in and around $1/$1,5 maybe, on a trade if the air blows COLD. .. If you clean it up inside and out, make it look 98ish and it has new sneakers, than $3,9 in the paper .. and let $2/$2,5 or so take it home.

    Maybe this helps ...

...... Ok, sorry for the delay .. the "Eclectic" blue (l.o.l.) doesn't help it, tuff color for a dealer to sell .. based on what your are saying, it's lowered and has all that kid junk on it .. no help there at all. Plus it needs a few things .. on a trade, this is worth around the 11's .. maybe, I would have to see this gem.

Anytime, you add all these "hinky" aftermarkets to a vehicle, just subtract what you put into it, you add $2,5 of lights and louvers .. Boom, it's worth $2,5 less. Remember, this stuff only appeals to the person that puts all that junk on it, same goes for stereo's ... we have had people put $2/$4/$6,0 into sound for their vehicle, then want that ..and more on a trade, we just send them home to put in, as close to the factory stuff into it, as possible -- that stuff just kills the re-sale value.

Ok, slick .. on to your vehicle .. it's black and it's in Atlanta and it's almost July, not a good thing (l.o.l.). But, yours would be a whole lot easier to sell than your buddies, it's clean, it's knee deep in rubber .. but, the miles are stiff -- but it's a Si, and if it's clean you should see $13 or so on a trade .. if you sell it on Retail Rd., in the paper for $15,9 and off the driveway for $14,8/$15,2.

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.

..... Well babe, you make it sound a little on the rough side .. yes, brakes are a good thing and I would have them fixed (shop around first) .. l.o.l..

It's a EX, but is it a auto or a stick ...? Let's assume it's a auto with 125k on it and it's just so so -- you should be in and around $2,5/$3 figure on a trade.

Are you happy now ..... ;-)

I have a white '98 SC2 in good condition with the following options:
    Black Leather interior,
    Power doors/windows,
    ABS,
    Traction Control,
    Power Moonroof,
    Single CD player w/equalizers,
    4 cylinder engine,
38,000 miles. No damage. Very minor "wear and tear" on the car.
I've been offered two very different trade-in values from two dealers. Saturn offered $7,000 and the Ford offered $10,500. What is the dealer resale value for this car? How can they be so different? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Aaaah, $10,5 for a 98 ... ? Maybe, if they have doing some of that Bolivian marching dust .. l.o.l...

Miles are low for the year .. and it does sound like a nice one -- But, it's a coupe, not a big seller, auto ..? -- $7 is ALL the money, I'm not saying a hundred here or there .. but these are guys so close, it's mute.

The dealer that's showing $10, is showing you a "over-allowance", he's cheating .. . l.o.l... I was at a Huge Saturn sale last week, I musta seen 150/200 of those little darlins' run, 01 SC2 3drs don't grab $10,5 .. I think you need to get back to the "up and up" dealer.

I appreciate the info on the Honda - yes, I am happy now. :) It is a pretty rough car, but it's reliable, and I was hoping it would be fair to look for at least 2500 on it.

We got the soy sauce stain out of the carpet, but it turns out there was an ink stain underneath... oh well...

Not the prices I was hoping for, but thanks for the brutal truth.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
Thanks for the numbers on the SI's. I will probably sell the black one and I can pick the blue one up for $11,000. That way I should actually make a few $$$.

Just curious about what a 2001 BMW 530 with 31,000 miles and paintwork on the front end would be worth. It's black over black with the usual options (roof, leather) and it's an automatic.

I am interested in purchasing a 2001 Volvo C70 LPT Convertible in Silver. It has all of the options except for the upgraded stereo system. the dealer in DC states that the no-haggle Price on the car is 34950. Adding 1K to the price for the certification process (it was not pre-certified) bringing the total to Just under 36K. It is in excellent condition and drives very well, as I understand it, the car was previously used as a rental car which I assume means that the maintainance was conducted regularly. The folks on the Volvo C70 message board suggested I run the price by you all and see what you think. Thank you for your help.

Trying to help a friend. He's looking for a XJ6 Jag. Budget is $7K. Miles should be 70-100K. What year should he realistically be looking at? Also any NY/NJ/Long Island area dealer recommendation?

1991 Mercedes 300SE (stationwagon). Silver, black leather interior, pretty car. Sunroof. New engine last summer - 35K on the new; odometer reads 162,000. Trouble spot -- leaks transmission fluid. What's a reasonable trade-in value? (Massachusetts)

    Thanks -

The thought of a 7K Jag gives me the willies. Does he have another 7K budgeted for repairs?

Saw this at a local used car lot (a good quality place, only sells nice clean cars)

White with silver lower body, tan guts, about 35K. Seemed loaded, but I was looking at it in the dark, so not sure if it was a premium (if they had one in '98).

Assuming it is knee deep and clean enough to eat off of, whats realistic for this trade/retail?

Car is Toyota Certified on Toyota lot in NC.
    Mileage is 11,400.
    Automatic/Air/CD-Cass combo-factory
Power windows, power door locks, power driver's seat/keyless remote/cruise
    No ABS
Color is "Platinum" (dark grey)/grey interior
No body damage/one pin-head size chip on hood.
Nice car/clean and was a local trade. There is a Carfax issue that is being checked. When car was inspected 6 mo. ago mileage was recorded at 70K. From condition of car I agree with salesman that this was an error and dealership is checking to verify this was an error and must prove it with a new Carfax. Car odometer reads 11,400.

Want a fair price to begin negotiations and idea what price limit to put on this car. (As another poster put it "don't want to be clubbed like a baby seal!") Also, should I be worried about the Carfax. I would not buy if the mileage can't be verified.

Volvo 1994 940, mileage 82,000 ,power moonroof , cloth seats,AM/Fm Tape cassette, power windows ,tires are slightly worn,Dark green, back windows are tinted ,Very clean, minor door dings. any advice would be great!! Thanks
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Is that 940 a Turbo, 16 valve, or base 8-valver? I'm guessing by the cloth interior it's a GL, therefore an 8 valve non-turbo.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... I will guess with Lance on this one .. GL, cloth seats no help.

For the year, low miles -- for a Volvo, low, low, miles. l.o.l.. So, we have the slider, color is ok, if we are up north .. and from what you are telling us, it's clean. That means, few parking lot kisses, no Mcdonalds invasions and coooold air. You should be in and around $4,5ish on a trade ...

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.

    ..... *don't want to be clubbed like a baby seal!* -- I guess I don't have to say -- "get the Carfax" .. l.o.l.

If it's the "real deal" .. an LE, cd combo, good color and the miles are right .. then the dealer probably has "around" $15 in it with the certified, service, pack, a little this .. and a little that.

So, you should be able to purchase this for $16,5 or less .. without being clubbed .. l.o.l...

Now you have my interest .. so let us know.

...... From what you are saying, this sounds like a real nice one. I'm always lookin' for clean, low mileage Acura's, especially 3.5 RL's .. this sounds kinda rare - 35k .. I haven't seen one in months.

If it's a straight up vehicle .. all there and a "baby doll" - plus it's the right color.. dealer had to pay at least $21 for it, so I would have to think he won't take less than $23/$24ish+ ..? Sounds like a "hard to find".

Who is this guy ..? I think I will bid on it myself .. l.o.l...

..... Let's see, we have a rebuilt engine -- So, this will depend on who or what rebuilt it .. and what their warranty and reputation is like.

This is a tuff situation to hit .. Let's say, it was done by a "Certified builder" .. it looks 99ish inside and out, and a Benz dealer would never "flinch" at site. I will have to guess around $6/$7ish --

I really would have to know more about this puppy. Few of these get rebuilt with that few miles ... questions start flying here .. l.o.l...

.... The first question is: Why ....?

Speaking of Bill, I should let him answer this question .. l.o.l...

Depending on the condition, service, color, etc. Your friend can be lookin' at 92/93/94's .. there is a boat load of folks that love to unload their XJ6's .. errrr, I mean would love to sell em'.

I'm sure there is a few folks on the board that might recommend a dealer in that part in NY. -- Me personally, I don't like to make enemies ... l...o...l....

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... It's a 96 ..heh ..? Wow, no miles on this puppy, sounds nice and it has new rubber .. sounds like the high $6's low 7's to me, on a trade.

On the retail side .. $8,9 in the paper and let some nice school teacher take it home for $8,5 .. an easy sale.

Where in PA do you live ..? I go to Butler and Manheim quite a bit.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... You didn't list the MILES or the color .. that's a no no ...! l.o.l..

Ok, I will give Ya a break ... let's assume it has 10/11k and nice and clean. If he bought via rental, then I'm sure he got it at the Baltimore/DC auction (what a mess that place is .. yuk!) .. and he paid a big Peso for it, in and around $31/$32ish, plus service and a this and a that, so he is priced right.

The $1,0 for the Certification is a joke .. kick that puppy, you can get a nice warranty program (if wanted or needed through Edmunds, or online somewhere). So hit him at $34 and enjoy your new vehicle .. those Volvo's are one of my very favorites ...

Have fun .... and let us know.
