You are in Colorado, this is 4WD territory .. the miles are fine and what can I say, it's a nice one.
On a trade, you are gonna be in and around that $11ish figure. If you go down Retail Rd., I would ask $13,900 and let the little school marm take it home for $12,7/$13,2 ..
It's nice too see, someone take great care of their vehicle.!

I have a green 1993 Mazda MX6 4-cylinder automatic. Power windows, power locks, 6-Disc CD Changer, A/C working properly, sliding sunroof working properly, factory radio works well. Has 96,000 miles. Paint is peeling badly, and the body has numerous dints and dings on the side and door panels. Also, there is a 3"x3" rust spot where the paint has peeled off above the left rear wheel. Other than the horrible cosmetic appearence, the car runs well, has been kept up-to-date on service, and has decent tires. Thanks!! I really appreciate it.

On a trade, in and around the mid to high $16's - and if it's better for you, on the Retail side, $18,9 and let the Mail man steal it for $17,9/$18,5 .. the tax benefit might be better here on a trade, you pay taxes on the net .. right, in CA ..?
Terry: I have 2 questions for you. First,I would like your opinion on the trade in and private party sale value for my 1996 Mazda 626 ES, w/ a V-6, power windows, auomatic trans and leather interior. The mileae is 36,000 and we live in a Northern suburb of Chicago. Thanks for your help. Second, we are going to buy the BMW X-5, which sells pretty well around here for MSRP. We were going to order the 2003 but today stopped by and saw that they have at least 15 2002's. Can you give me your opinion on what discount I should expect if I were to buy the 2002 vs. waiting the 6 weeks for an '03? We expect to keep the car 4-5 years and will be paying cash for it. Thank you very much for your help.

Terry, thanks for the info. That's about what I was hoping for. Unfortunately, CA charges tax on the selling price of the new car, no deduc for trade. They charge the buyer tax on a car EVERYTIME it is sold. Sounds illegal to me. So, I probably will retail it myself. I'll probably have to wait at least 6 months for the '03's to start selling near invoice, and to make sure there's no serious first-year redesign bugs.

I have a 1999 VW Passat GLS, V6, auto, light blue/w black, sliding roof, 61K. Car is in great shape physically and mechanically. What should I be looking at for dealer trade-in here in Rhode Island? Retail a better option? I few years ago dealers kept these on their lots, but today? Thanks for your help.
PS: Would a VW dealer just buy this from me? Not as a trade-in.(I am looking at SUV's - more practical for my job.)
I have a 2001 Suburban 1500 LT 4X4. The truck is Gray with a light gray interior. Has 18500 miles. Only other options besides the LT package are trailering pkg, locking diff, rear seat audio controls,4.10 rear end. What do you think I should receive for trade in value?
...... I really can't tell where you are from, per your profile .. but, a 4WD LT is worth a little Jingle right now. -- IF, it's a nice and clean one - and lookin' and driven' like an 02, plus you have the right color and all the good stuff ..
Even in Florida, the "Dogs of War" will pay $28/$29 on a trade ...
...... Sorry Phil, I wasn't going to miss you ..--
Don't ask me why, but these Malibu LS's are on a roll right now. There doing more money now, than they were doing 5 months ago ...
Most of it has to do with, You have a spoiler, V6, p/seat, Cd, (miles are no help here..ouch) .. and new tires. So, if it's a clean one, you should see "around" $7,0 or so on a trade ..
...... Right vehicle, right color, right engine, right transmission, right options ---- Wrong miles...
No help there .. on a trade, in and around $10 .. Most dealers, will have no problem with a Passat, they are in demand and just great vehicles all the way around.
If you decide to go down Retail Rd. .. try $12,500 (negotiable) .. and let the guy that runs the 7-11 -- "steal" it from you for $11,5/$12,2 ..
I have a 99 Lexus ES300 with 26000 miles in south Florida due to come off lease next mo. with Sunroof, leather, 6 CD in dash, auto - the standard lease package at that time. Do you have an estimate for trade in/what dealerwould ask/ dealer sale price/ purchase price off lease? I am thinking about buying, have a very high residual, but think I can buy for less given current resale market. Color is silver w/platinum leather interior, excellent condition.
....... Miles are ultra low and it's the right color ..
The best thing you can do is try to negotiate the "pay off" through Lexus or whomever the Lease co. is -- Not the dealer -- Believe me, they want the vehicle more than you do ..l.o.l...
On a trade, it's worth in and around the mid to high $19's if it's a "baby doll", that means - no paint work, needs -0-, it's deep in rubber, no alligators living in the back seat and lookin' 02... if it needs stuff, start deducting.
This is a nice $23,980 retail vehicle in the paper .. and can be cut from the herd for $23 ...
..... Miles are low for the year .. it's a V6, kinda a rarity .. it's an auto .. right .?
If it's a pretty nice little vehicle .. ya know, no bumps, lumps, or Gang battles, air is cold, everything is 100% and you are knee deep .. on a trade, maybe $1,5. This would make a great retail vehicle .. $3,9 in the paper and let the guy from Mr. Donut buy it, for $2,9/$3,2 ..
I hope the Steelers flop like Mullets this year. -- Hey, nothing personal ..l.o.l. ..
I noticed you mentioned trade might be better for someone considering their tax situation vs the trouble of selling retail on a particular car....
this reminds me, i was wanting to ask someone how this works, in NC we have a 3% sales tax on vehicle purchases, when I bought my new car last yr, I included searching a couple dealers across the border in SC, they also have a 3% sales tax on cars, and i can't remember if they told me i would pay their 3% or my 3%, all i remember is it was 3% and that they could still do the title and tags for me...
when i sold my car privately, obviously i didn't charge any tax and as far as i know, all the buyer paid was the property tax under the new registration which they would have had to pay anyway, they send you a bill here a few months after a new or renewed registration is issued
Soooooooo this leads to my Q: I am pretty sure then, that all things being equal, I would pay less to a pvt sale here vs dealer on tax alone for used,
but what if I purchase a car in Georgia, there are several cars there equipped how I want them with reasonable asking prices, I was thinking of taking a day trip to Atlanta area to look at them, to make sure I am taking everything into consideration.....
To your knowledge does GA charge a tax on new or used vehicles from a dlr?
If not, does that mean in NC I would only pay the previously mentioned property tax. etc.?
Let's say on $26k that's almost $800, so to me that's worth considering, like if I'm close to the price I want to pay, that extra $800 makes it all that much easier to make happen, or better the deal even if they meet my #

I want to sell my 1999 Olds Intrigue GLS, good condition but 88,600 miles. I purchased it new and bought an extended warranty to 100,000 miles, bumper to bumper, no deductible, and transferable. Surely that will make it worth a little more, but how much? Any help on pricing? Thanks, jeh
That quick response was great. Yes I know, high mileage... And, yes, it is a 3.5 engine, yes to the Sunroof and leather. (I guess yes to the sunroof, I don't know the difference between sunroof, moonroof and whatever the other name is.) Black w/tan leather interior, dual power seats, rear spoiler, high polish wheels. Any other info you need? jeh
..... Stickguy makes the point --- Depending on the state. In some States, you pay taxes on the whole amount, in others you only pay taxes when the vehicles are both used, some do it when a vehicle is new, etc.
Here is a better example.
$25,000 New car.
10,000 Trade ____________
$15,000 Difference
$900 Tax 6% (or whatever) ____________
$15,900 TBF (to be financed, or cash)
Now some states, you have to pay on the whole $25,0 which is $1,500, even with the trade.
Now, depending on where you live .. sometimes it may be better to use the trade cuz you saved on the taxes, after the trade. This was specifically directed at some Honda's .. only cuz right now, their trade value is very high and you may only recieve an xtra $6/$9/$1,100 if you retail it .. now if you use the example above, it may be better to trade it, and save the $600 in taxes .. when you may only see an extra $6,0 or $900 by going retail.
I hope this makes some sense .. and if anyone wants to jump in here, please do.
...... Well let's see, the miles are just ..ok. It's loaded up, but since it's not a 4WD, you should be in and around that $17ish, figure, *depending on the dealer* ..
The FWD's are kinda Cold and all over the place -- you may want to shop around on this one .. some want it and some don't.
.... What type of Caravan .. Grand, ES, LE, SE ...? Info please.

The Caddy is the right color in Florida .. if it runs strong, still looks sharp, (ya know, people think it's a 95/96) .. air will blow you to Georgia and the interior doesn't look like it was in a knife fight .. -- NICE, cleans ones at the auctions are doing around a $2,5, the not so nice ones, are doing around $9/$1,5 ...
Yes...quite close to Butler...I've even driven a few cars in the past to and fro for a dealer friend of mine. I'm thinkin football season is near, and the dealer is preping for some serious losses to his bookie. Thanks for confirming this!!!
These two odd ducks have caught my eye recently here in mid-MI: (i) '98 Oldsmobile Intrigue, gold, leather, well equipped, don't know details, and 140k (yep 140 grand) miles. What might that be worth? On the lot at the local Pontiac "superstore".
(ii) '93 Audi 100 Sedan, leather, roof, 115k miles, FWD, dk green, dealer maintained, person says they already bought another Audi. Ooooh doggy. I guess it's too late for a trade-in now... Their ad didn't even give the model, the engine, or FWD vs. AWD; real amateurs... but it did say "Blue Book $5900, asking $5900". Yeahup. I should know better than to buy an old Audi, but, ya know,...
(iii) follow-up on an '02 Sienna (34k, ex FL rental) from the same Pontiac dealer; Bill said they might have $18k in it but they've had it for awhile... well, they just dropped the asking price from $20k to $18k, must be time to let it go... am still not interested.. white is just not my color.
You probably thought you got forgotten too ..! But, naaah ..
Ok -- question 1. The miles are like a new vehicle, it's an ES, V6, slider, leather and all the toy's -- this is going to be a "hard to find" -- on a trade, around $6, maybe more if it's puuuurfect.! This is an excellent vehicle for Retail Rd, in the Tribune for $8,9 and a college kid will grab this for $7,8/$8,5.
Ok -- question 2. Which X5 model ..? -- 3.0, 4.4 or the waaaay to high priced 4.6 ..?
Terry: Thanks for the help w/ the Mazda 626 pricing. I will definitely try and sell it myself to get the extra $1,000 -2,000 vs. trade-in. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't delusional thinking I could get in the $8,000 area. On the BMW 3.0: it has an MSRP of about $46,000 when you iclude the cold weather package, rear climate and automatic transmission. Prices for the 2003's didn't go up much, I think around $400, so I have tried to estimate what they should be willing to knock off on the 2002. There is one in the lot of the 15 I mentioned that I saw in the dealer's lot that has the color and options we want, but I feel that unless I get paid for it I should just wait the 6 weeks that it would take to get the new one and then I would have an'03 later on when I try and sell it. We generally keep our cars around 5 years. Your opinion on the value of the '02 vs. '03 would really help. Thanks!
Hey Terry. I'm looking to sell my '99 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. It has 74000 miles (I know, I know) and is blue. Plenty of tread left on the tires. The Exterior I would say is in Average to above average for a '99. The interior is in really great shape. The leather is nice (I've kept it clean and conditioned) and the carpet looks new (I shampoo often). Other than the miles, an all around great suv. I'm also throwing in the Explorer folding chairs Ford sent me and some Rhino liners (Along with the original floor mats). What do you think I could get (in ATL)trade-in and private? Other specs: V-6 SOHC Automatic Rear air Premium Sound System (w/subwoofer) 2WD Tow Package Tan leather interior Dual Power Seats Console Computer

-Mathias
Based on your description .. it sounds a little rough, it needs paint work, it needs a lot of things -- Sooo, on a trade .. maybe $2,0 ..
Terry ;-)
Terry.
