The Caravan is just a Caravan. However, they must have equipped a lot of them in this semi-SE fashion, because I see quite a few with the 3.0V6, 7 pass, privacy glass, roof rack, PL config. It seems to have everything on the SE except PW and PM.
As for the Cadi, it runs like new (really) and the interior is just short of perfect. The leather is not faded or worn, and neither is the carpeting. It was literally driven by a little old lady before I got it. The air is great and the new JVC sound system is top notch. Are the 128k miles a problem on the Cadi?
Lastly, I'm new to the board so I'm not sure I understand your pricing notation. Is $2,5 shorthand for $2500 and $9/$1,5 for $900/$1500?
Thanks again. Hope to hear from you soon, as the Cadi is going to auction tomorrow (Tue 8/20).

But -- and the word here is "But" .. I feel you have a 2/3 week window of opportunity to "grab" a 02 for a bunch less than an 03. With 15 or so sittin', he may get a little "weak kneed" .. once those cool breezes start up, he won't much care.
You know what you can buy a 03 for .. right.? -- If you can save 2,5/$3,000+ on a 02 vs a 03 , that may be worth your while, remember these aren't Chevy Blazers (no disrespect) .. and will hold a strong number down the road, whether it's a 02 or an 03 - but only you, know what number will "float your boat" ..
Also on the ES, make sure that thing is "stand tall" .. have it detailed, make it look like a diamond and have all the service records sit-in' on the front seat -- A big fat 5 liner Ad should get you started....
Let us know ...

i understand in some states you get the break for the trade, as you referenced in your first post to the honda owner w/ the high trade in value
my main question was whether or not Georgia had a tax at all on cars bought from a dealer new and/or used
in NC, we pay a 3% sales tax from a dlr, but we don't pay sales tax on a private sale, no matter where you buy it, you will get a property tax bill each year you own a car and register or renew the registration, but you don't pay SALES tax on a private sale (as far as I know)
so the Q was, if Georgia does not have a sales tax at all on used vehicles (in my case) and I am buying a $26k vehicle, I would save almost $800 as opposed to buying that same vehicle from a DLR in NC, unless it is not treated as a pvt sale in my state and somehow the out of state dlr is obligated to charge tax on behalf of my state
in this case i'm not trading anything, i'm just trying to see if i'll save $800 in the event I pick one of the half dozen vehicles in the Atl area vs only three in a 200 mi radius in NC that are similarly equipped (that i could find)
it's not that complicated, but i seem to be making it sound so, i'm sorry, i hope this makes more sense

Based on what you are telling us, if it's nice, nice nice, .. it could do $3,0+ -- that's if it's lookin' "jam-up" as it runs thru the lane.
128k is a problem on any vehicle, but the nice ones, still pull some Jingle.
The Caravan comes in 5 different styles .. this sounds like a "short box" with a V6, which is a big help, the no power window deal, is no help here l.o.l. .. I'm guessing $2,0.
Good luck ..!

I am trying to trade my wife's 1997 VW Jetta GL 70K miles (5 spd. Premium radio, Moonroof). The car is a little beat up on the outside (probably 1k to get it looking like new), but very mechnically sound(maintenance records, etc.). Car max offered $3500. KBB.com says it is worth around $5200. Should I:
1. Accept Carmax's offer as it is..
2. Fix the car up and sell it.
3. No fix up .. look for a better trade.
4. No fix up and sell it.
Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your very quick response. I was thinking the same thing, mileage is a little high. Now at least I feel prepared when I walk into the dealership...

But this doesn't make sense to me, if I go register a vehicle, they will send me a property tax bill a few months later, and next year they will send me another one, and so on and so on
But as far as I know if I show up to register a vehicle, they don't ask me where I bought it or how much I paid for it, they just want to see the title and pay the standard fees to get plates
So unless the GA dlr is handling NC sales tax money, I don't see how NC can charge a sales tax in this issue, wouldn't it be like on some internet sales, where someone buys something on there and in the past or in some states currently, the seller is not required to charge a sales tax for out of state sales, and the buyer can go out of his way to somehow report the purchase to pay a tax on it but most usually don't kind of thing?
http://www.dmv.dot.state.nc.us/vehicleregistration/faq/
As a general rule (this may not be every case): you buy your car out of state and attach your existing plate to it as most states give you X days to register and apply for a title. Call your insurance agent and give them the info so you are insured. Register car at home and pay tax locally. If you do have to pay tax out of state, you typically show the receipt to your local office and they only charge you the difference if your state rate is higher.
Trust me, your state isn't going to let you get away without paying the sales tax or road use fee or whatever they want to call it!! Technically, you are required to pay sales tax on items you purchase out of state if your state's tax is higher but I don't know of anyone who actually does. Here in New England, NH doesn't charge sales tax on anything, but once you register your NH bought car in any of the surronding states, they present you with a sales tax bill.
Good Luck.
It's not too unusual for peeps to crooz to tha A T L and snag a fly-azz hooptie. I'd imagine a dealer will collect the NC sales tax at time of purchase.
Thanks
Also wondering if you think this Mid-size is going to hold its resell better than the Blazers, and more like the Tahoes ... (Would be best if it held like an Acura or Lexus)
Thanks, Rick

Then, went to two more dealers to be given quotes of $17 and 16,250! Well, all said and done, had to let it go for $17,750...and "invoice" (whatever the heck that really is in their world) on the other car...crap. Everyone gave me the same line--with 0% on so many new cars, we can't get value for your used one. Tough to beat that line with clever comebacks like, "but, but, Kelley Blue Book says..." and "c'mon guys, please?" Makes me sick, but had to do it.
Oh, just so nobody has to go back and look--car was a '00 Acura 3.2TL, Green with tan interior, no nav. 29K, ding in passenger door, scratch on one wheel rim and otherwise perfect. In Phoenix.
Was wondering what I could expect for the following:
1995 Volvo 850 GLT, White exterior in good condition (a couple of nicks in the plastic winddam), leather interior in very good condition, 79200 miles, and located in South Florida, plus the following extras: auto trans, dual a/c, power sunroof.
KBB, Blackbook, and the TMV are all over the place. Four local Honda dealers offered, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0. Funny, since we are considering an Odyssey, and you can't get them for but a few hundred under MSRP.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Thanks for the numbers. Yup you got it pegged as usual I am the Chi-town to H-town transplant. I'm loving it can't beat 97 degrees and 75% humidity 6 days a week lol. I will really like it come January :-)
Anyhow, I did save about $1508 in sales tax on the other car plus $500 in registering it down here in Phoenix. So, I "sold" it for almost 20k but, of course, that has nothing to do with the price of tea....the dealer still made out, but the conspiracy of dealers blew me away and wore me down...two days, more than 20hours at 5-6 dealerships and the only offer i had for 18k wanted more than $2000 above invoice for the new car...and would not budge. And we are not talking about a hot-seller here...
What did ya trade it on?
It doesn't make sense, I just checked last weeks auction reports from Dallas, Tucson and Phoenix (I had to, I thought I was loosing it) .. 00 TL's with 40k are doing the $18's, I knew I couldn't be that far off - plus, they are paying $18,0 for 1998, 70k LS 400's --- Oh well, it's done and over ..
All I can say is .. enjoy your new vehicle ( I will be the one, sittin' in the corner talking to myself)

Terry.
I feel the automakers, even more expanded that market, with sizes like the Durango, RX300, 4 Runner and such.
Personally, I like those sizes (I hate falling out of my Escalade) .. it's only that I carry a bunch of junk, or I would use a Midsize.
Right now, yours on a trade is worth "around" $21/$22 .. which means that a dealer will be asking for "around" $24/$25 on the retail side.
Terry.
If I were you, I'd get the clutch fixed (that usually runs $400-700, though) and stick it in the paper for $1900 and take $1500 or so. Or if the clutch isn't too far gone, disclose to buyer and take $1000-ish, if the body is good and it runs OK. You 'could' donate it, but I've tried this with little success in Chicago (they don't want it, don't want to pick it up, want you to do all kinds of legwork to give them a car, etc.). Good luck.
Anyhow, I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a leftover 2001 base Miata my local Mazda dealer has. The MSRP is $22,900 and he will sell it for $17,500 or $3,500 below invoice ($2,000 of that is from Mazda). The dealer will give me $17,500 for my wife's 2001 CRV EX (black, auto, 23,000 mi) so it is basically an even swap. My wife will inherit my 2002 Accord EX.
The dealer said he can't go any lower because he is losing a lot of money on the deal but I think he will probably make it up on my CRV and break even. Any thoughts?
My mother is giving up driving (age of 83) and wants me to sell her car. She is in Fla. and I am in Ohio so I need some help. It is a 1994 Olds Cutlass Ciera with 10,800 miles..yes thats the right miles, it is gray, has Am/Fm Tape, power windows & mirrors, 3.1 V-6, A/C, keyless entry, and other standard options. Car is like new except the plastic "chrome" side moldings have turned yellow (from the hot sun I am guessing), and the passenger side front window motor works slow. Guy where she buys gas/gets oil changed etc. wants to buy it. What should she get? I would like to do this over the phone, but can go to Fla. if I have to. St. Pete area if that matters. Thanks for your help.

Wonder if anyone here could give me some advice. I'll try to make this as short as possible:)
I'm interested in trading in my 2000 Accord SE for an Odyssey minivan. I went to 2 different dealers in the Cincinnati area. Armed with my Edmunds data, I figured my trade in to be worth somewhere between in the low to mid $14k range (has about 39k miles and is somewhere between good and outstanding condition).
Dealers tried to play hardball, both offering me around $11k and then after a couple of weeks going back and forth the best one comes up with is $12,200. Their reasoning is not the condition, but they say it won't be worth as much because of the redesign of the new 2003 Accord. Needless to say, I'm a little frustrated, because for all that Honda says about touting their resale values, I expected around $14k, which is in line with Edmunds trade-in TMV. I'm also disappointed because I've seen the same dealers re-listing similar used models at $17k+.
Am I out of my mind here? I just find it frustrating that I'm willing to pay full sticker on a new Odyssey, and yet they won't even come close to giving me fair TMV on the Accord trade in. Needless to say, I walked on both dealers and am considering driving to Indy to hit some dealers there. Any advice?
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
PS
If you have a carmax in the area (they weren't there in 00 when I lived there) try and get them to buy it or go see what a different brand will give you for it to get an unbiased opinion. But I'm sure Terry will hit it on the head for ya
bret, i'm coming down there tomorrow, we'll see if i come back w/ a fly azz hooptie
by the way, i know there has been some discussion about certified cars before, anyone want to touch this one???
'00 Navigator 2WD
Blk/gry
43k mi
sunroof
Asking price was $26988
I don't know if the price has changed, but he said they certified the vehicle now
I remember Terry saying that a similar vehicle I looked at that only had 33k mi he thought would retail around $26,5+, so do you think had it not been certified this should have gone for less than $26 w/ the few extra miles, or still less than $27 even tho it's certified??
Thanks
Karz
I am going to buy a car for my parents (in their late 70's) A good friend is taking me to a smaller dealer auction here in Iowa this week and is going to pick up a car for them. I am looking for something small but yet reliable to replace their 87 Grand Am death trap. Unfortunately I only have about $4K to spend. A couple options I was considering was a 96 Prizm or perhaps a 97-98 Escort sedan. This will probably be their last car as they don't drive over 5K a year so I am not concerned if the car drops like a rock in value, just that it will be reliable (so please no Neons.) I am not too concerned about options other than AC and AT but power windows, locks etc would be nice.
Am I in the ballpark for an escort or Prizm? Any other suggestions in the same $4k price range.
Thanks for any help
Kind regards,
Dennis
PS Mom says thanks too!
Just keep in mind - miles predicates price, the lower the miles .. the higher the price.
So, if the miles are super low on the 96 Prizm/Escort (30/40k) .. then it might do over the "strike zone". Just make sure you can get there early, at LEAST an hr before the auction starts, this way you can see how they feel, touch and smell before you bid on em' -- and have alternative choices ..
Because once it starts up, they all look like "baby dolls" .l.o.l..
Good luck and have fun ...
Terry.
This will be a great vehicle for someone .. it might need a few little things because of the extreme low miles, perhaps the tires "might" need to be changed, perhaps a this and a that, but don't bother. If it's pretty much "stand tall", that's what counts.
This is a hard one to find, a nice vehicle and Nooooo klicks -- can't get em' and can't find em. $4,5/$5,000, not a dime less, there is thousands of kids (and parents of kids) that are getting ready to go back to FSU, Miami, UCF, etc. that are looking for this perfect (or close to) "cream puff" ..
Maybe you and Dennis can hook up .. l.o.l..
Terry.
Musta had a girlfriend in Nashville .l.o.l..
$2,5/$3,0 ..? Gheeeeez, the miles just kill it. The Audi, pick a figure .. $1,5 ?, where do you find these ..? l.o.l..
Terry.
If a dealer is ready to give you $3,5, then it could be worth $5,0 on the retail side. I would spend $75/$100 or so, at Dent Wizard and have some bumps and lumps straighted out .. get a great 3 stage detail done for $100/$125 .. a little this, then a little that, I bet you don't have to spend more than $300.
Now that you have it lookin' like a real Vehicle again, drop it in the Largest paper in your area for $5,990 and cut it from the herd for $4,5/$5,200 ...
Terry.
If you decide to go down Retail Rd. .. $22,900 in the paper and $21,7/$22,5 should be a seller.
Terry.
If you can hang beef on the inside with the air blowing, knee deep in rubber, service is 100% and the vehicle runs and looks like a 98/99, then I can't see why you are not getting $4,0++ on a trade. If it needs some work, that's a whole different program.
Also keep in mind, -depending- on the Dealer .. they may not know enough about a Volvo and will hit the vehicle Low.
Not too many Volvo buyers are afraid of a 80k vehicle --- this ain't no Neon .l.o.l....
Terry :-)
Terry.
$12,200 that's all the Jingle .. last week I bought a flock of 99 LX's with, auto, sliders, keyless security, alloys, spoilers, 6 pack CD's in the trunk and the miles in the 25k range, paid $11ish.
But, it never hurt's to shop a little more .. see what Indy has to offer.
I hope this helps ...
Terry.

(I think a Vauxenslobbin musta fell on Bill or something, where is that little devil.?)
So you are in Hotlanta ..huh.?
We have a 2WD EB, with a few too many miles ... let's see here.
Kinda nice exterior, a real nice interior, lot's of miles, Rhino stuff going on, hot tunes, lotsa miles, tow pack, V6 no help there and lotsa miles.
Hmmmm, let's take a wild guess .. I'm thinkin' somewhere in and around $8,5/$9,0 on a trade .....
Sorry for the wait, to hear bad news ...
Good luck .. and let us know.
Terry.
Thanks in advance
