Thanks for the input. I was wondering how much longer do you think it will be before I can find one around ~26k? Im planning to sell my audi a4 2.8 asap around kbb's price if possible and upgrade to the s4. Are you a dealer?
.... Hard to say when $26 will be a real deal figure .. they are out there at that #, but they do have some steep miles .. Yes, I'm a dealer and any info is on my profile.
New York Garaged 28300 miles Premium Package leather, heated seats, moonroof, cd changer, spoiler, cargo net, custom mats garage opener Alarm system with auto-start. Lojack.
I have a Nissan Altima 3.5 SE, moonroof, 17000 miles; polished pewter with charcoal cloth interior. Excellent condition. I live in north Louisiana. Any ideas on trade-in value? Thanks!
It's a great color, it's the 3.5 .. but, the miles are waaay tall for the year .. if it's a nice one, clean, no meteorite damage and no boxes of Popeyes Chicken stacked in the back seats .. then you should be in and around the high $19's on a trade - the miles hurt you here.
TMV trade-in price says $9,495 Kelley Blue Book says $7,925
The dealer is asking for $14,500 I think we should not pay more than $11K. My husband thinks no more than 10K. There is '02 intrigueGX w/25k miles for $14k asking price at another dealer. We have not seen that car. but looks great on the web. However we don't want to spend over 12.5K right now.
What do you think? Should we try to get '99 Gl for 10K? or try to get '02 GX for 12.5K?
Another choice is '01 Nissan Altima GXE limited for 12.3K. We know Altima is better than Intrigue. Only reason we don't like Altima is none of them we saw has ABS.
We are too tired of shopping/ test driving. My husband doesn't want to see any more car now.
.... Good morning .. An Intrigue eh ..? Nice vehicles and they do sell well ..
An 02 with 25k .. or an 99 with 15k ..
(and we are not sure of the miles on the Altima .. right.?)
Pretty simple, the 99 with 15k is worth more $$ to a dealer and the buyer, than the 02 with 25k .. a 25k 1 year old vehicle drops like a bad habit, cuz of the miles .. (could be a rental, or a vehicle that had the wheels run off) .. I would rather have 3 low miler 99's than 10 25k 02's.
I don't think you are going to get the 99 for $10,0, the miles are ultra low and he will have no problemo selling it .. $11ish is more like it.
...... Not knowing the color on this puppy can make a big difference ..
The greens, reds, browns and the blues, just don't sell as well as the white, silver, black ..
So lets assume, it's a silver one up in NY .. the miles are low.
So, if it's deep in rubber, interior is clean, clean, clean ... the exterior has little or few dings or parking lot kisses and can show as a 01, then you should be in and around the mid to high $22's on a trade .. if not, start deducting.
There are many '01 Altima GXE Limited to chose from in our area. Most of them are sliver w/22-30K miles on it. (Other choices are white and green.)(red and teal ones have some problems.) All with cloth seats.
'99 Intrigue is black. We live in Oklahoma w/103F heat. Black is not our first choice color. (although, we are hoping move back to NJ soon.) I like Intrigue's power and this car is very well kept However it's out of warranty, we have to buy the extended one for 1-1.4K.
..... Sounds like a herd of GXE's that were bought at auction and probably rental vehicles .. no big deal on the "Rental" part, but thats lot's of miles for an 01.
I would think, the dealer isn't paying much more than $10 and change for em' ..
* We will not drive it more than 10k miles/year. * We will keep it for 4-5 years. * By then we will be back in NJ/NY area.
Then which car is better for re-sale? '99 Intrigue GL w/ 100k miles warranty or '01 Altima GXE?
I believe most of Altima we saw were rental car. Lowest mileage car we fond was 18K. It's white. Kids like silver color more and it will be their car.(unless, they don't mind driving my Mama-van, '00 Nissan Quest w/44K.)
My wife has the same Altima in the titaium frost color and absolutely loves the car. It really drives very nice, and I'm a Toyota guy from way back. You can't go wrong with this car.
Those Altima's run forever .. (properly maintained) .. and also on my top 3 list, great re-sale, hard to break. If it looks and runs good and still has "eyes" at 100k, you could sell one for a little Jingle.
Right now, clean 100k 95's are doing $2,5/$2,8+ at the auctions, so on the retail side .. $4,9 and $4,0 takes it home .. not a bad little deal.
I LOVE THE POWER OF INTRIGUE !!! I was wishing you tell me to get the intrigue
Oh, well... Seems like, we will get an Altima.
BTW, my husband's friend who lives in NYC said we should get NEW '02 Altima S for 16K. He said he saw the AD on the paper. I see it for M.S.R.P $19,776. Do the dealers willing to sell it for $4K less?
We were looking for the used car ~10k Then it went up to 12.5K Now we are talking about 16K+ !!!
With two kids in college,(and two more to go) I better start looking a job now
..... The GL Intrigues have the 3.8 Buick engine in em' .. there is thousands and thousands of em' out there, with 100/120/140k+ on em' that never even had a hick-up ...
(not to complicate things .l.o.l.)
Brand New Altimas for $16 .. ? I have seen them in Tibet ..
trying to get compensated for that caddy job he did for the Dali Lama, but he'll still get that total conciousness thing later, so he's got that going for him
I did pick up the Navigator in Atlanta, I've just been so busy, I haven't been on the boards since then. Thanks again Terry and Bill for the help on the SUV hunt. So far, so good, it had the 45k mi, really good black paint, clean tan interior, everything works perfect so far, including the motorized 7" tv and vcr, once i got used to the vehicle size, i got used to the 300hp, although not a screamer, it is better than the comparable vehicles for the class/yr, so glad to have the deal over with, and I'm glad we got something we both like, coz for now I've been driving the Nav and honey's got the I30t, since it's been like 90+ degrees and she's 30wks along, she likes my remote start to cool down the car, I haven't had a chance to add it to the Nav yet. They came off a couple hundred more so I got it for $26,5; I know I didn't steal it, but I've seen em SELLING for like $28 around here, and at places like CarMax they sell for $29+, in worse condition and no tv/new tires/new brakes/etc. so it's all good. I'm glad we got this instead of the Expedition or the other vehicles we considered, it was great to have you guys as an additional resource to confirm actual pricing of the various SUVs I considered in order to weigh out the VALUE of each to match our needs and be able to compare to what the dealers were asking for these vehicles. I swear, that one dlr that tried to sell me a similar vehicle on two different occasions for $30,9 called me the other day asking if a '98 was too old for me, he said he had a nice '98 with a good price on it, he wanted $24k for it, I politely informed him he was too late, but he was too high anyway, it wasn't that I couldn't afford his $30k, it's that it wasn't worth $30k or $27,5 on the second visit, that although his '00 w/ had a few less mi, it was in worse condition, and there's no way a 98 was worth anywhere near $24 and I got what I got in a '00 for $26,5; but thanks anyway

Hey guys - looking at a 2000 MB ML320 with 32K miles. Dark blue/light grey leather, sunroof, running boards and custom wheels (although I prefer the stock). Good rubber (not great) and easily a 'clean'. From an individual (who sees eager to get rid of it . .asking $28,900. Was thinking $26,000 tops - thoughts?
Ok, my friend is at it again. Can you guys give me a good retail # for the following car...
2000 Carrera Cabrio, black/black/black, 9000 miles, mint condition.
Sitting at a Volvo dealer in Stamford, CT. Guy is asking $66,900. It's been there for a while, and summer is shutting down - what should my friend pay for this dream boat?
Please don't laugh, but I was wondering if you had an opinion on what the trade-in value of my Dodge might be. It's black ext. burgundy int, power doors/locks/driver's seat/windows, cruise control, AM/FM cassette, auto trans., a little over 100K miles. The A/C doesn't blow cold air - just regular air. Heater & other ventilation works. The car has some small quirks, but nothing life-threatening. No one really knows much about this car, I'm hoping someone may shine a little light on its worth (or worthlessness)!
I am in Somerville, MA (greater Boston area). Car has lived in NC, NY and IN. It's a great car, but expensive things are starting to break. I recently replaced the fuel pump and the climate control computer. Thanks in advance for any help!
Terry, my pal with the 200K 87 535is was very appreciativve of your numbers. She said they just put about $700 in it (maintenance, etc.), and they may just keep it a little longer. The Retail Road number was actually higher than she expected.
I'm guessing you should probably sell this one yourself. I doubt a dealer would offer more than $500 in real money on a trade.
Seems it's an odd bird (no offense), so I doubt it will really do the money Edmunds TMV indicates, plus, Edmunds numbers are historical, so the price is dropping every day.
I'll let the experts chime in here with a "retail" price, but this is probably something no new car dealer wants on his used car lot, so you would be better off with a private sale, but not much better.
Our plan has been changed. We won't get the third car for kids 'till next summer. Well, our experience of shopping for used car was not so great. The sales people were not well educated about various used cars. Even at Nissan dealers, they cannot tell us Altima has ABS or not. One sales parson(rental car sale company) told me that ALL car after '89 have ABS. Oh, well... then how come it's on "option list". Each time we test drove the car, even after we said we like that car, they tried to show us the other car that we might like more...
We are overwhelmed by too many information.
We will be in the market again maybe next spring/summer.
I have a 2wd Dodge Dakota R/T that I am running into a "wholesale minus $2000 dollars" offer when looking to trade it in. I was even looking at paying $1500 over what Edmunds recommended for retail on the Jeep I was looking at, although the NADA retail (not counting the dent and scratches) was pretty much right on what they were asking. So how far south does one have to go before one does not get nailed for having a 2wd in snow country? A few hundred dollars for a few days in vegas seems worth it to keep from eating $2000. Maybe I'd run into the same story everywhere. Anybody know what a 2000 Dakota R/T with 16500 miles and A/C as only addition to the R/T package would bring in say Texas? It needs $500 in tires as it's only flaw. Factory warranty still good for a year, and they only made 5 in this solar yellow color combination in 2000.
ok, bill and terry-I've been lurking for a while and am just about ready to purchase a new (used) car. My budget doesn't allow me to go above 21,000 dollars, but the car's that I'd really like to choose between are either the 323i's, and a41.8quattro's. Any advice or suggestions on what year and what kind of milage I can get either one of these for? Also, what do you think of a tt--I'd love to be able to buy one of those but don't know if they fit into my budget. Also, I don't know if it's in your ability or not, but I've noticed that you guys sometimes are able to find cars for the posters on your boards--could you perhaps email me at shehzadms@hotmail.com (I'm not sure if this is a subject of discussion that's allowed on the internet board here). I'm looking to purchase by december or so, but am sooo confused by the prices that are listed all over the net. Thanks for your help!
Requesting that a dealer purchase a vehicle for you at auction really is not allowed here in the Town Hall, but please feel free to take this discussion to e-mail. Thanks.
Thanks for the info on my Altima. The car is a great car, perfect...and it has 17,000 miles because, well, it's a great car to DRIVE! Only problem is that I can't carry anything in it. Thanks for the info.
I don't know what kind of cars the dealer is talking about, but the only cars for sale in the U.S. in '89 that DID have ABS are Mercedes, BMWs, some Volvos, Audis and Saabs, a few Cadillacs and Lincolns. To my knowledge, no Nissans, Toyotas, Hondas, lower level GMs, Chryslers or Fords had them. ABS didn't really become 'mainstream' until about 1995, and until about 1992, they weren't even available on most non-luxury cars. This dealer is clueless. I think if you call Nissan and give them the VIN on that Altima, they should be able to tell you if the car has ABS or not. Also, most ABS equipped cars will have some form of 'idiot light' in the dash indicating same. If it doesn't have the light, the car probably doesn't have ABS.
Well it seems like everyone is getting a new car (but me, how does that work?) My Supervisor has been looking at Audis and Toyotas, but they are not to happy with the figures they are getting on their trade.
It's a 96 Olds Aurora, they bought it new, 59k, memory seats, it has Bose, heated seats, sroof, the chrome wheels, new (expensive) tires about 7k ago and it looks like a 02. It's black and grey leather, no scratches or dents, they drive their SUV in the winters, this one sit's in a heated garage with a cover. The dealers are saying around $5,000, what say you?
None of Altima we test drove had ABS icon light came on. The salesman depend on the sheet they got from their dealer. And sometimes that has wrong information.
My kid who needs the car will goes back to the collage in PA soon, and the other one only come back home once/month. So we don't "really" need the third car. Besides we can get 2002 Altima w/ more power (than '01) next summer cheaper. I think that's good thing, right? BTW, is it true that we can buy the used car cheaper in NJ/NY than OK?
I have a 2000 GMC Siera 2500 ext. cab 3dr. 4wd SLT with 67K. I've checked out all the online used car value guides, but when I bring it in to a dealer their offers are way low compared to the guides. What is a true trade-in value for this truck?
Looking to sell privately our 1997 BMW 528i automatic sedan. It is canyon red with a tan leather interior. Loaded! Sunroof, premium sound, upgraded wheels, ski bag, etc, etc, It has new Nokian tires and is in excellent condition. 94,000 miles and located in Connecticut. In addition, it has an extended warranty up to 100K/6 years. Any thoughts?? I have not gotten any calls yet from my local paper advert. So, what about a trade in price as well. Thanks
Can you give me your thoughts about an Ivory 97 Infiniti J30T in Atlanta, 62,500 miles? It has custom wheels, power everything, moonroof, single-in-dash CD. Houesed in garage, all maintenance records available. There are 3 "door dings" on the driver side (only visible at a specific angle). Besides the door dings an absolutely great vehicle. We are selling because we want something bigger (Audi allroad). Thanks for your Real World advice!!
Hi. Hope you can give me some advice. I purchased a new 2001 Electric Blue Honda CR-V 4WD LX Automatic in November 2001 (added options: keyless entry with alarm, passengers side armrest). In April 2001 it was stolen and later recovered less than a mile away with no damage except a missing cd player. I bought a new cd player and reinstalled it. Last week my car was broken into and the heating control and cd player were stolen as well as one of the windows being broken (Other than that no damage to the car). I had the window repaired over the weekend, but have not replaced the heating control or cd player yet. I am thinking of getting rid of this car since I just moved to NYC and I think it is too risky to have a Honda around here. I was wondering with this history what I could expect to get for it as a trade in. It has 14,000 miles and is in great condition inside and out, just missing the heating control (but nothing was damaged when it was taken and the wires are all intact). So really the part just needs to be put back in. I have the original radio although I can?t install it until the heater control is replaced. Any idea how much I could get for this? Sorry for the long post. Thanks!

Sooooo, it's a 2WD drive (no help here) .. XLT, V6, Exploder with 64 klicks .. and it's Ralph Lauren Polo green.
If it's a nice one, it might see the high $10's low $11's on a trade .. those miles, just put this right into a coma ..... sorry.
He needs to retail this one ...

Kelley Blue Book says $7,925
The dealer is asking for $14,500
I think we should not pay more than $11K.

There are many '01 Altima GXE Limited to chose from in our area.
Most of them are sliver w/22-30K miles on it.
(Other choices are white and green.)(red and teal ones have some problems.)
All with cloth seats.
'99 Intrigue is black.
We live in Oklahoma w/103F heat.
Black is not our first choice color.
(although, we are hoping move back to NJ soon.)
I like Intrigue's power and this car is very well kept
However it's out of warranty, we have to buy the extended one for 1-1.4K.
Thanks.
I would think, the dealer isn't paying much more than $10 and change for em' ..
Always buy and drive what you like ..
Good luck ...
Terry.
