Terry, Thanks for the info. I went back in the posts and found an example of your famous 5 liner ad,( i like 'em). I'll get the suburban detailed and get out to sam's club and get some new sneakers , then i'll throw out the 5- liner and wait for a big bite. I appreciate your insight and promptness ........ dweller
1999 BMW 323i 4-door 61,000 Miles Titanium Silver, Gray Leather, Sunroof, Sports Package (16 inch wheels). 5 Speed manual - new clutch Tires have about 20K miles on them. Body is in great condition (with 1 small door ding). Interior has a few scratches on the doors down near the bottom (from shoes). Located in Austin, Texas.
My wife and I just came back from a test drive of the above...options included base stereo/CD, leather, power moon, metallic paint, sport package, 17" wheels. They are asking $29,775...if it were you, what would you offer for this fine vehicle? 22,300 miles on it.
2001 Acura CL Type S. Black exterior over tan interior. No navigation. Rear spoiler. Right side has been painted and there are a few dings in the rear quarter panel. Slight scuff mark on the left front bumper. Tires look almost new and the interior looks pretty clean. It has 50,500 miles on it and is in Atlanta. What should I pay for this?
You helped me previously w/ my '96 Mazda 626 ES, suggesting an $8900 sales price . We got $7900 but the Chicago papers had had a couple articles about the soft used car market. Now, I really need help ASAP because we are negotiating for a new car and the dealer numbers seem way off from my research.
Toyota 1998 Sienna XLE Light grn w/ beige leather moonroof/sunroof, CD player I have tried to fix the breaks but they still squeak No accidents, some scratches and dings but nothing thaat detracts or is very noticeable. 38,000 miles Chicago suburbs
My research suggested a $14000 trade in number, dealer was at $10,800. What is the correct trade in number and what might I get if I try to sell it myself? Thanks for all your help.
I wouldn't put too much consideration into this vehicle. IMHO value is going to be in the low-teens... It's out of warranty, (probably) been in a wreck, and it's got one of those tranny's with a history of the disintegrating 3rd gear clutch pack. On top of all that, looks like it still needs another grand of work to look '01.
I had the chance to buy it for $15,000 but the chance has passed. Not really too upset because it had the wrong color interior and the wrong transmission. A 6-speed 03 would've had me begging for any where near the $20,000 mark even with a little paintwork.
.... All I can say is, don't shoot the messenger ..l.o.l...
I love the LS's .. I have bought quite a few and driven a bunch. I had a LSE for a few months and always loved em' - except for that stupid thing they wanna call a cupholder .. yikes.!
In your case, it's the right color inside and out, it's got no miles, no slider.? no chromes .? - But it's a 6 and there's no help there .. and it's a handshaker, the ultimate kiss of death in those puppys.
If everything is going your way, you have eaten your brussel sprouts, brushed your teeth twice a day and perhaps helped a little ol' lady cross the street in the last 6 months .. then you might be lookin' at in and around the mid to high $13's on a trade .. "might" even creep to $14 if you play golf with the dealer and you let him cheat .. the ultra clean V8's with the sport pack, Alpine dash side, 17's wheels, slider, heated bum warmers, S shift are barely doing over the $17's with 15/17/19k ...
I wonder why all the on-line sites: NADA, Edmunds, Kelly, etc., list such higher values for the car?
But your response is very consistant with what the dealer told me. @#(%@^!@#!
Seems like the best strategy here would be to keep the car! After all, in the next two years it can hardly go down much compared to what any $40-$50K car I replace it with would. And it is a hell of a nice car to drive, resale notwithstanding.
Just one more question. If I keep the car past the warranty date, but buy the extended warranty, am I likely to recover the cost of the remaining warranty when I sell it?
I wonder how many of those are on the road. I also wonder if there aren't people out in the wilds of America looking for a car like that. Have you looked at e-Bay or even considered selling it there?
If I wanted a LS I think that might be the combo for me. At $13,000, of course
I've always liked the concept of a 5-speed LS. I guess Cadillac is also building a 5-speed CTS, though I imagine they'll be equally rare. American luxury with a stick shift, very cool. Until you want to sell it. I would definitely recommend an eBay kinda thing, it's possible someone is actually looking for a car like yours. It's just that on a trade, a dealer is looking at the thing growing whiskers on his lot, since most people don't want a stick any more.
..... A lot of the sites are off and some are waaay off .. it's just the market, it's changing quickly now, and it's also the end of the year and dealers are lookin' to cut and run ..
Ghulet makes a great point here - See, in the market it's not that it's a LS, Audi or Bimmer, it's that it's a handshaker .. take a 540i with a 6 speed, the books hold the vehicle in "Extreme high Esteem", drop it in the market and see how long it takes to sell it, so much for the esteem thing 2 months later .l.o.l. and the bad part is, the books can't buy the vehicles that they put the figures on.
But a real nice, big, fat 5 liner in the largest paper in your area and a little Ebay could fetch you around $17/$18ish on the retail side if you decide to go down Retail Rd ...
... An extended warranty is a good selling point .. but if you have like, 35k on the LS after the factory warranty signs off in 2 years, then the low miles will also help a lot .. but, it better be deep in rubber, no kisses, no Mcdonalds invasions, no paintwork ~ and cleaner than the board of health .. and twice as sanitary.
..... Morning, if spell check doesn't pick it up, then off it goes ..l.o.l..
Actually isn't that a English word - like I fell on my bum ..? hey, I watch the Osbornes on TV, so I know all this terminology, besides I have that "Speak and Spell" that does all the work ..
Well if the Credit Union say's it's worth that much, then let them pay ya for it .....
Miles are waaay stiff , so no help there. Ya got a meat clever for a shifter, so no help there .. the color and condition "might" save ya. On a trade, in and around that $14/$15 figure depending on the dealer .. extreeeme miles, affect the value of vehicles in a extreme way.
It's a LT, it's a 4WD, miles are kinda ok .. if this dude is clean, lookin' like 5k inside and out, no scary little treasures hiding out, then trade side you should be seeing around that $26ish figure -- down the road too Retailville it should snatch $29/$30 ..
The S90 I looked at didn't float my boat (nice car though), but they have a:
2002 S60 T-5. 7,500 miles (dealer car of some sort). Silver/Black leather, roof, normal options inc. 17" wheels, automatic. Beautiful car. Orig. sticker = $38,900 (was in the glovebox)
What is the real world on this baby (auction/retail from a dealer - I assume certified).
Terry Here's a good one...That 99 GC I asked about ..finally went to do a test drive...vehicle had just come back as a lease return 2 days earlier...still had not been through the dealers service check yet...interested in part because it had 30,105 miles...so driving on the freeway a few miles from the dealer and look at the gauges...speedometer and tac at 0...not moving at all...then the real surprise ..I figured I had driven about 5 miles...the odometer was still at the same milage as when I left...needless to say the manager was a little upset finding out that there was the possiblity he may have taken in a vehicle with more miles on it than he thought..
Although the odometer may not have logged the miles, the vehicle's computer should have a record of the true mileage. There's an undocumented feature on the 02 GM Triplets (Envoy/Trailblazer/Bravada) where you can pull a fuse (I won't say which one) to disable the gauges/odometer, effectively making time stand still on the ticker... -- but the system's computer still has a "true" log of mileage and I suspect any discrepancy might come under scrutiny down the road... Guess there's something to be said about the "old fashioned" odo's vs. the new digital ones!
Need a trade in value on a 1998 Explorer EB 4x4 (Blue & Tan exterior; tan leather). It has all the possible options minus a cd changer and V8 engine. Truck is in good condition with about 65k miles on the clock. Also has an extended warranty for 6yrs or 100k miles.
.... I'm just making sure I read this right .. it's a 01 .. right.?, it's got 20k .. right.? - it's a T5..right.? - it's a pretty nice, clean, drives nice, looks cool, a no re-paint kinda vehicle .. right.?
For $29,900 ... right..?
That's a great price ..! -IF-, you were standing next to Chernobyl when the reactors went off, and you now glow in the dark and bark at the moon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays ...
They couldn't have a dime over $24 in it if they were glowing in the dark ~~ $29,900 is a 02 pre-owned price .. $25ish is all the money .. gheeez., did ya see any of those funny little pipes on their desks when you were there ..l.o.l...
Terry: You missed it, but I did not bother you after I went to see it. "Excellent" and "Real Nice" and words like that sure mean different things to different people. So, I'm still looking.
.... Ok, here's another one .. let me make sure I'm reading this one right ----
I got my glasses on, so let's look close .. it's a 98 .. right.?
It's a XLE .. right.?
It has 38k on the ticker right .. right.?
No meteorite hit's, no drive by shootings, no "I forgot to close the door when I backed up, and the door fell off", no lets drive 60 mph through a gas station and hit a Suburban, nothing like that .. right .?
$10,500 is a fair number if you just came by boat through Key Biscayne -- you may not see $14, but around that mid to high $12ish figure all day long .. if it is a nice, clean one, it would do over the $13 figure at the block ..
Thanks Terry for the info - I guess the Lexus dealer raised the number by $500 to $11,300 yesterday but it still seems low. I am writing you back because although we reside in the Chicago suburbs we are in Key Biscayne for Thanksgiving so your comment was especially funny to me. Happy Thanksgiving and I'll keep you posted.
It's that Holiday time again, so we have relatives bouncing all over my house (oh joy). My cousin is standing over me and want's to know what his vehicle is worth, he's want to trade it this weekend on a new Lexus/Lincoln/Nissan.
He has a 2000 Toyota Tundra, 23k, 4dr ext cab, V8, 4x4, it's ruby red with the tan cloth split bench, cd, auto, keyless, Toyota bedliner, TR package, wheels, verni running roll boards. Terry, I hate pick up trucks, this is a nice one, he even let me drive it to Sams Club to get all the supplies for the next 4/5 days, of course we had to put blankets and tie downs so nothing got scratched, what's the point, it's a pickup truck. But I do have to admit, it's a really nice, fancy, clean, can't smoke, take your shoes off kind of truck and looks and drives new.
So as you say, what's this "puppy" worth .? As always, thanks for all your help, it's always appreciated. By the way, if you need some extra relatives I will be more than happy to drop them off for you.
One or the other has to go, so I was wondering what the trade and retail numbers would be on the following:
1. 1993 Nissan Pathfinder SE. 138K Dark Green Met. with Gray Leather, AT; all options including limited slip, rear disc brakes. Perfect interior, a few door dings, as well as the chronic Pathfinder rusty rear bumper(the only rust on the truck). Pirelli Scorpion tires are @1/2 worn.
2. 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 58K. Desert Sand Met. with dark green/sand interior, 5spd, soft top, add-a-trunk, and "Canyon" wheel/tire package. No dings, rips, or tears. Goodyear RT/S tires are @1/3 worn.
I live in a suburb of Louisville KY. No hurry, and many thanks in advance!!!
.... So I would guess that one won't be a player ..l.o.l...
The true miles will pop up, it's a lease and it will have to be pulled before auction time, TMU won't do well in the lanes .. I have a feeling if you called the lease co., they will have all the proper info ..
.... On a trade, you might be lookin' at $500/$1,000 .. this a retail piece if it's a nice vehicle, clean, service is 90%, deep in rubber, no rust, no tick tick tick, few kisses, interior is lookin' 99ish -- if it's a ruff one, start deducting.
If you send it down Retail Rd, then $2,9 in the paper and $1,5/$2,000 gets a new owner ...
So we got a 98 EB, it's a good color for Chi-town, it's a V8, it's a 4x4, the miles aren't too bad and it's in ok condition .. right.?
Trade side, low $9's .. down Retail Rd with the warranty, $11,9 in the paper and the first Chicago Bear with cash money takes it home for $10,5/$11,5 -- it better be clean, detailed and service is going on since day one and needs -0- ...
.... Hey, don't be dropping anymore relatives at me .. I have enough of them that I board at the Marriott, so their cute little "darlings" don't try to re-paint my house or set fire to my boat .l.o.l.. (aren't they cute.? Aaah, nooo!)
Thanks for a great description, it's an auto.. right.? Sounds like this could be a real nice one, it's the right color combo. I'm not much of a pick-up kinda guy myself, but with this being the 4DR, 4x4, V8 and nooo miles and all the nice TR, SR5 stuff going for it, it's worth a little jingle.
An import dealer as a rule, would be a better player for this dude, if it's as clean as you say it is, then trade side it's gotta be worth $18 in the dark, "maybe" a little more depending on the dealer ..
Have a great Turkey Day and remember .. the reason why God made Duct Tape was for 6 year olds ..l.o.l...
a 1999 Cherokee Limited, 39,000 miles, leather select trac, power seat, window's,locks, mirrors,( also heated) alloys, full size matching spare, digital miliage reader/temp.............all options but the moonroof and heated seats. Red with grey leather. Very clean, no accidents, normal nicks and dings for a 3 year old truck.
I have a 1993 Pontiac Bonnieville with 90,000 miles on it and it is in (what I think is) very good shape. Fabric is still unblemished, body is unblemished with zero rust. I have religiously maintained every 3000 mile oil changes. New tires in the last year. No accidents in it. Would like an opinion on trade value.
..... A DTS .. huh.? -- I had a couple of these and liked them a bunch, the last one I had was white, moon, grey carriage, grey gut's, the chromes, it was a nice cruiser ..
I'm guessing this must be a new one .. all I can say is, Christmas is 25 days away, dealers would love to move some metal, and they are definatly not looking forward for the first 2 weeks of January. I'm guessing, but if the vehicle is got a sticker of around $51, then invoice is probably hanging around $47ish .. these, you need to check on.
If I remember, there is $4 big ones on em' right now, or the financing. But anyway, if so, you should be around $4/$500 over invoice, then minus the $4 grand .. that put's you in that $43/$44 zipcode, not a bad gig.

I am thinking about trading my 2000 Lincoln LS. Could you help me with a likely trade value?
2000
Lincoln LS
V6
Manual Transmission
Color: Light Parchment Gold

Is it likely that I would get a higher value from a Lincoln dealer than from others? If so, how much.
Thank you very much.
